When Lily and her mom join a Mother-Daughter bookclub, Lily is excited to be in it with her new friend, Sophie, but also worries that it will be taking valuable time away from her first: love, music, and her old friends and fellow band members, Zola and Abigail. And, to make matters worse, the bookclub is named The Baking Bookworms. She is even more terrified since her baking skills are abysmal.
When Sophie's friend and fellow bookclubber asks Lily to host a surprise 13th birthday party for Sophie at her house, things really get out of hand with baking, decorating, and trying to please everyone. Much to the dismay of her fellow bandmates, Lily is canceling practice much too much of the time to compete effectively in their school's Spring Fling.
How will Lily please everyone while staying true to herself? With the help of some good friends, both old and new, she finds a way to do what she loves and let others bake their hearts out. Frosting and Friendship is a sweet (no pun intended) story of friendship, recipes, and growing up.
