The Nik of Time

Rate this book
Colin Greystone has loved one man since he understood what love was: Nikolai Markov. But Nikolai is too young and Colin makes himself stay away. By the time he decides to declare his feelings, Nikolai has earned quite the reputation as a playboy and a badass. Colin spends years trying to forget the younger man, only to have his world flipped upside down when Nikolai Markov barrels back into his life. Colin is in danger and his fathers have asked Nik to protect him. Colin is less than thrilled to be forced into spending so much time --in such close contact -- with the man he swore he'd stopped loving.

At 20 years old, Nikolai Markov is well known as a hired gun with a hot body. But now he only wants one thing : For Colin Greystone to give him a chance. Thrust into Colin's college life -- and dorm room -- Nikolai unloads his charms on a resistant and unbending Colin. When the two of them are in harm's way, Nikolai will kill anyone who threatens his man. His other mission? Making Colin fall for him.

Can a love that began at birth survive to adulthood? Or has Nikolai's chance passed him by?

I have been blessed in this life to not only have parents that support me, but kids that do as well. I grew up in a loving but "Old School" French household. My parents worked for the airlines (TWA) so I was able to see a lot of Europe as a kid. I moved to Seattle Washington at the age of 22 and stayed there for twelve years before moving to Alaska for a little over two. Fairbanks, AK was one hell of an experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back! I spent a little over a year in South Carolina before moving back to Arizona. I then left for Kansas for five years and now reside in Arizona. I've been connected to the military in one way or another for over half my life and wouldn't change a thing about it. Writing has become my full time job and I've never been so happy doing a job I love and being able to do it in my jammies. I plan on writing until I dry up and die. Hopefully, that won't happen soon!

4.5 rounded up because I freaking love Nik Markov!

I was waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting for Nik and Colin's story...and I was not disappointed. I loved it all. I think they have the best of both worlds. Known and loved each other since birth AND have some of the hottest sex ever!

I was glad to see that Colin could hold his own in a fight. I knew he was trained to be lethal, but it was not really shown until this book. Having Nikolai Markov as a partner sort of requires you to be able to kill ruthlessly...and yes he does. Bye-Bye Carmine!

There were quite a few pairings going on in this one...setting us up for future books. I am most interested in Skylar and Justice - Ross and Cole and please give me some Jude and Hayden...those boys need a resolution.

I know it's gonna be a while before the next book, ~sad face~ but I was very happy to have this great book to tide me over until the series continues.

This was a pretty good read. Collin Greystone has known and loved Nikolai Markov since he was four years old. When Nik was kidnapped at the age of ten, he locked away part of himself so he'd never be hurt again, morphing himself into the vicious killer he is today. Collin removed himself from Nik's life to avoid any further heartbreak. He was trained to be able to protect himself. When Collin is in danger Mark and Paul Greystone send Nik to protect there son. This was a pretty good read with a lot of action in it. Determined to protect Collin and make him his own, Nik slowly starts to regain his memories of their shared past. Just when it seems that Nik will finally get his man, someone close to Collin, someone they thought they could trust betrays them. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Found out about this series three weeks ago. I started with book one and flew through them like they're crack and I'm an addict. Such a good series, can't believe I bypassed them for so long. True, there are soooooo many story lines, but the characters are all great. Out of 17 books there were only a couple that I ended up skimming over here-and-there. Nik of Time was freaking awesome, couldn't wait to read Niks story every since he was introduced in the beginning. However, the Lyons Den is my ultimate favorite.

Collin Greystone has known and loved Nikolai Markov since he was four years old. When Nik was kidnapped at the age of ten, he locked away part of himself so he’d never be hurt again, morphing himself into the vicious killer he is today. The trouble is when he locked away his emotions, the ones that connected him to Collin were locked up as well.

Feeling that he’d lost the boy he loved, Collin removed himself from Nik’s life to avoid any further heartbreak. He was trained to be able to protect himself; as a member of the infamous Santorno/Markov/Panchenko inner circle, the Greystone family could be put in harms way at any given moment. He then went to college thinking he’d finally be able to forget about young Markov. Fans of the series will know that Collin fell back into Nik’s arms, quite literally, several books back. Collin was heartbroken again when Nik didn’t even remember the love they shared as children. Nik, however, was instantly pulled into Collin’s orbit. But young Markov has a reputation as man whore, and Collin wants nothing to do with him.

Our latest installment in the series finds Collin in imminent danger and Nik has been sent by Mark and Paul Greystone to protect their son at any cost. Determined to protect Collin and make him his own, Nik slowly starts to regain his memories of their shared past. Just when it seems that Nik will finally get his man, someone close to Collin, someone they thought they could trust betrays them. These two young men truly are destined to be together. But will they survive the fury of Carmine Rizzo and find common ground, finally be able to love each other and set aside the past.

Gasq-Dion has yet another hit on her hands! Seventeen books into this series and she always seems to come up with something fresh for each book. Weaving well known and much loved characters from other books in the series into every story is her niche’. She also has a keen sense of the male anatomy. The sex scenes are passionate, sensual, sexy and just down right HOT! And if you thought she was getting close to wrapping up this series, think again. Runaways Skylar and Elijah have set their sights on a couple of our favorite shifters, and oh goddamn, I can’t wait for them to get their man!!

I whole heartedly recommend this series. If you are a fan of sex on a stick storylines, romance, intrigue, suspense, paranormal, werewolves, assassins.. and oh so much more, you are going to love this series. I would say please start at the beginning with A Marked Man, but each book can easily stand alone.

4.5 stars. I cannot believe at book 17 of this series, I'm still loving it! I also cannot believe it doesn't drive me nuts that I can't remember half of who's who and that I'm ok with that memory lapse as it doesn't take away from the current story in the least.

I have wanted Nik's story for a very long time. While he wasn't quite the Nik I remembered, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. It is difficult to remember he is so young and has been doing some growing up (mostly physically it seems). He didn't seem quite as smartassy in this story, but I enjoyed him just the same. He is still sexy as sin, especailly when he focuses it all on Colin.

Colin somewhat surprised me. I remembered him as being rather meek and timid when we saw him previously. He seems to have done some growing as well. He tries his darndest to keep Nik from getting under his skin, but Nik is relentless. I was glad they didn't let the struggle drag out too long.

There were a few niggling things that bugged me in this one. The fact that random college kids all know who Vince Markov is will never cease to make me chuckle. Also, there was such buildup of the Carmine Rizzo issue, only to have the guys take care of things in what seemed like a flash. I wish that had been a little more drawn out.

I am looking forward to many more stories in this series. Unfortunately, with the hints at a few different possibilities, I'm not quite sure who will be next. I'm really hoping for some seriously sexy hot fireman, Cole (whom I've never forgotten and have loved from day 1) and badass military hottie, Ross. Either way, I'm sure the others will be just as good as any before it.

I've been waiting for Nik's book and wasn't disappointed. Nik and Colin are great together and it was fun to see that while Nik is very protective, Colin can take care of himself too.
The only complaint I have is that the cast of characters is getting really hard to keep track of, as this is something like book 20 in the series and there are new characters all the time (I assume so they can be future heroes). Plus since so much time has gone by - more than 15 years by my count, the men who were in their 30's in "their" books are now nearly fifty but haven't appeared to have aged. So having a family tree of sorts, along with how old each man is at the time of the book, would really help.

With everyone in this series being an assassin how are there any people left alive in the world? It's getting just slightly out of hand. Of course, I wouldn't term a lot of these people assassins. To me, an assassin is someone who kills for a living, whether government sponsored or not. If you are an operative of some sort and called to take out a target, while you may have assassinated someone, I don't actually label that you an assassin. So, quibbles with terminology I guess, because it just seems ridiculous when you have over twenty guys labelled as assassins running around together.

Colin needs a good slap upside the head. Nik goes through something horrible and then Colin abandons him when he really needs him the most then Colin is asshurt because Nik doesn't remember him and their great kiddie love and has slept with someone else. Multiple someone elses.

Next quibble. All these men "saving" themselves and being all pissy and stuff over their other half having had sex before and the ones that have had sex bemoaning the fact that they have gotten it on with someone else in the past and wishing they had saved themselves. Really? I mean, really? I don't even know that many women that save themselves. I'm not saying that it doesn't happen with both women and men and I guess I can a little more see it with the werewolves who know they have a mate out there, but it's another thing that is just getting ridiculous. And the sex is sort of formulaic. Same things happen and I can't believe I'm going to gripe about this but there's always the big momentous moment when the other guy tops. I thought it was irritating having the always seme, always uke thing but...

*checks fiber intake for the day* *checks caffeine intake for the day*

I think I need some bran flakes and a pepsi, then maybe I won't be such a raving bit...uh, bitter woman.

Don't get me wrong, I like this series, I like the books, I like most of the characters, I think the problem is that I read one book to see if I liked the writing then picked up the whole series and am now reading the books back to back so I am noticing things that I might not otherwise be irritated by.

Eh, now thinking about it, Nik is 20 and super bad ass assassin?... *shakes head* I'm really failing to see/believe this. *sigh*

Oh my, at the risk of sounding like a total fan-girl, I simply just have to say that I love, love, LOVE it. I also do believe I have found a new comfort read, and by comfort read, I mean something that I would happily read several times over! It is one of those books that you just HAVE to drop-everything-and-read kind of books. While the wait had me sitting on the edge of my seat for the book's release, I am glad to say that I wasn't disappointed in the least. Nik and Colin were oh so cute together (in a total badass kind of way) that by the time I reached the end I was already begging for more. They went together like some extremely delicious (and sexy) PB&J. All in all, it was a well-written book filled with an exciting plot line and two absolutely lovable and memorable characters. I am always amazed by Ms. Gasq-Dion's wonderful imagination and ability to create a vast array of colorful characters. Suffice it to say, if her books came in print I would designate an entire bookshelf just for them!

At last! We have all been anxiously waiting for Nic and Colin's book and I finally got it in my hot little hands yesterday!
Let me say it was worth the wait! Badass assassin Nic Markov has been fascinated with Colin Greystone since he first saw him in the college bathroom beaten and bloody, he cannot understand why Colin dislikes him so much. Colin is heart broken that Nic doesn't remember their past together. Secrets are coming out and one big one puts Colin's life in danger and who better to protect him than Nic. I love how their story unfolds and I must say the passion between them is off the chart HOT! It was so much fun to see Nic wooing Colin and you will love the weaving of so many of our favorite guys into this story and of course makes us excited to when their story is going to be told!....Sandrine is the master of how to build the anticipation, but that's fine with us since she is also a Master Story Teller!

I absolutely loved this entire series...so this review will be for all of the books. There is nothing I enjoy more than a series that keeps you involved in the lives of the people from previous books. I get so emotionally invested in these characters and it is so nice to continue to hear their stories, while still learning to love the new "couple" in the book. I loved that there was a nice mixture of shifters and assassins, and not everyone had to become a werewolf! (which is the case in a lot of the M/M shifter books) I am so SO SO looking forward to more....MORE, soon please? :)

I just love this whole Assassin/Shifter M/M series and can't wait for the next book to come out!! SandrineGasq-Dion has so many characters in her books it amazing she can keep tract but it also makes this so much more interesting for her readers and you learn to fall in love with each one and I love when she brings them back and you can read how much they are progressing throughout the whole series. OMFG. There doesn't seem to be much point in trying to summarize this travesty of a novel, because there was absolutely no attempt at putting together a plot. Son of the Russian mob is assigned to be a bodyguard for his former best friend, the adopted son of his father's friends (all of them assassins within the organization), because his biological father, they just recently discovered, is their arch enemy who wants his son back. This pathetic excuse for a book was nothing more than an almost endless series of repetitious love/hate mental ruminations from both protagonists, juvenile attempts to make each other jealous, and (eventually) sex scenes. The dialogue was excruciatingly corny, and so were the macho badass assassins strutting their stuff all over the place. And again, characters from other books elbow their way in to try to ensure the reader will pick up their story. Stay away from this one, it's way too long to suffer through.

Another great add to the series. I loved these two and this was the couple I was waiting for. There is just something about Nik that's hot and hilarious all at the same time. Their story was crazy, sweet and made me laugh out loud. Can't wait for the next.

“Okay, slow down. I’m going to need more coffee –and maybe a notebook –if I’m going to hear all this.”

When it's one of the characters saying this, I know my confusion is vindicated. So I jumped in this series at book 9, which I enjoyed and I have read several in the series between 9 and 17, but I've got to stop - it is becoming impossible to keep up with who is who as it seems the author refers back to every past pairing and comments in every possible future pairing in each and every book. And there are a lot of them, with similar names (Jason, Jacob, Jay, James, Jayden, Jordy, Josh, Justice...) and don't get me started on Devin Lyons who gets his memory and his old name back, then gets married and ends up with another and all five names are used!

It's just too much, too many crossovers and too many future stories laid out that the amount of time dedicated to Nik and Colin seems almost like a byline story instead of the main event. I can't see myself going past this one- maybe I'll go back to the start where there are fewer characters.

Ho hum.

So much for Andrei only crying once in his life prior to meeting Devin. Bah. Did you really have to go back on that in the immediate sequel?
Also, nicely done, Vince. Doing CPR on a tiny, fragile newborn is going to be vastly different from doing it on one of your buff buddies. Just saying.
These kids in the prologue… are scary. So coherent and articulate at stupefyingly young ages. *edges away*

Blah. Colin muses how he hasn’t heard from Nikolai at all since the camp incident and that he was merely told Nikolai had recovered. Except we saw in the previous book that they saw each other at the wedding. I hate stuff like this.
And it’s weird that Colin doesn’t know about werewolves given that he was at the wedding, too…
The longer I read the more it seemed as though the author just completely ignored the previous book. Or is this supposed to be taking place before the wedding? Because Colin and Nik still weren’t on speaking terms there, so that can’t be it.

It continually amazes me in this series how articulate and wordy these guys are while having their mouths stuffed full of what inevitably always is a humongous penis. (Average apparently doesn’t happen when the fates have smiled upon you.)

Well, all of the above is peanuts, I suppose. The book as such was nice enough.
It certainly helped that I’ve always kind of liked Nikolai. Something about him… A sort of simple glee. He really never struck me as a complicated person and that has its own appeal.
Colin, while an okay enough guy, completely failed in the supportive department. Blaming Nikolai for things he couldn’t help? Not cool. (The whole “saving oneself” thing – eh, it’s the series, huh? I do get why he would be bothered by Nikolai’s promiscuous ways.)
So while we did not have anything particularly fresh here, it still was good to see that long-feuding couple finally get together. (I hate those unending setups, bah.)

Of course, Aiden near the end was a bit much. Makes me want to roll my eyes but I have a headache so I’ll resist. Everyone’s overpowered godliness is pretty silly. But hey, it really sums up the core of the series: You guys are fated to be together and we’ll bend the laws of logic and nature, if necessary, to see that happen.

That of Nik and Colin was almost a “known” story from my perception, having read books in this series up and down and around this specific one. I’m actually missing one important piece for this perspective, that of Andrej, one of Nik’s father, and how and when he separated from Vince, cause at the beginning of The Nik of Time they are happy together, and very much in love. I remember I read Vince and Keegan’s story, and I know Andrej found love with Devin, but I haven’t read his story. I think I want to.

Anyway, Nik and Colin’s was a refreshing perspective; they met when Colin was 4 and Nik a newborn baby, and they fell in love, with much amusement of their respective fathers. There is even a familiar connection cause Nik’s surrogate mother is the same of Colin’s sister, so in a way, they are relative, if not blood-ones. But then Nik went through a traumatic experience and he lost all memories of the past, and with them, also Colin. He built a separate life, he had relationships, until the day he meets Colin again, and everything crushes upon him: he knows Colin is the love of his life, the problem is he doesn’t remember him. And Colin, who was waiting for Nik (yes, in every way, also sexual) is upset that Nik instead didn’t.

Even if there was the usual crash-boom-bang of assassins, shifters, Italian an Russian mafia, and some other deadly organization, I mostly enjoy the young and somewhat sweet love of Nik and Colin. My favorite parts were those of them at college, and I wanted more of them with their family. The first part, with them as children, was really nice, very cute and tender.

Just notes because I don't have time to write a proper review:

I'm so tired of the lack of Seattle knowledge. There's at least one issue, usually multiple, in every book. One of the beta readers should be from here. University Way is called The Ave but that's not it's name.

If Nikolai is 20 and a junior and Colin is 24, why are they in the same classes?

Rizzo wants him alive. Why would he have someone try to run him over?

When Colin was 14 his feelings for ten year old Nick were sexual? Does the author understand appropriate and inappropriate sexual behavior and development? It doesn't matter that Colin knew he needed to put distance between them. He shouldn't have felt that in the first place.

Finally a comment defending women's strength.

Good that they said that killing bio father, even if evil, will have an emotional impact.

Her writing is improving.

Not enough peril. Fixed too quickly.

Riley does not have time to do all the things they say he does and also run a corporation.

Jaxon should not find Elijah attractive. He's 23 and Elijah is 16. In many states, that's pedophilia. She has way too many couples with that kind of age gap. It's really bothering me and it's also upsetting me that no else seems bothered by it.

The after stuff and epilogue go on too long.
