Summer Wedding Collection

Rate this book
Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: Summer Wedding Collection. Readers will love this collection of six sweet contemporary romance novellas, centered on a Summer Wedding, all with one thing in common: Romance.

In Melanie Jacobson’s charming novella, Love Bytes , Bree is the maid-of-honor and Dallen is the best-man. While they plan and plot over email and texting, Bree realizes that the best part about the Maui wedding might be meeting Dallen. She just hopes that he’ll feel the same way.

Romeo and Julie-ex is a sweet romance by Julie Wright. “Romeo” turns out to be a two-timing jerk, and when Juliet Moore’s pre-ordered wedding dress arrives from UPS, Juliet curses everything male. In a stubborn streak, she decides to keep the bridal photography appointment—when Juliet shows up for the appointment and meets photographer Jack Montague, she might have to take back some of her curses on men.

In Rachael Anderson’s enchanting novella, The Meltdown Match , Courtney spends each summer in her hometown of Heimel, Alaska, to find inspiration for her next novel. But when she runs into former high school friend, Mitch Winters, and they both win the Meltdown Match—a traditional dating contest—Courtney discovers that leaving her hometown at the end of the summer might not be so easy this time.

In Golden Sunrise , an engaging romance by Annette Lyon, Natalie takes time out of her crazy schedule to fly to Vegas for her best friend’s wedding. Sierra and Jason, high-school sweethearts, are finally getting married. Fortunately for Natalie, her old high-school flame, Adam, has a work commitment and can’t be there as best man. But when she arrives at the wedding rehearsal—late and ragged—Adam is there. When Adam makes a wild suggestion, Natalie just may take him up on it, even though she knows he’s moved on. A single choice may mean Natalie is taking a shot at reclaiming the past—or that she’s putting her heart in harm’s way a second time.

Tide Pools is a captivating story by Heather B. Moore. Lexi makes a quick trip to Hawaii to attend her friend’s wedding, and she discovers that the engaged couple, Sydney and Apelu, are still trying to match-make for her. Lexi laughs because not only does their friend David have a serious girlfriend, but he owns a restaurant on the island. But when Lexi meets David, she has a hard time remembering why all of her plans were so important.

In Sarah M. Eden’s delightful novella, A Regular Bloke from Stanmore , Abby is helping her sister, Caroline, plan her British wedding. That’s right, Caroline is obsessed with all things British and insists on an authentic wedding in...Oregon. When they arrive at Sainsbury House reception hall, it has everything Caroline loves, and the host, Matthew Carlton, even has a British accent. Yet Abby isn’t buying the whole good-looking-British man with impeccable manners thing; she’s determined to expose him as a fake. But the more Abby gets to know Matthew, the more she realizes how wrong she really is.

Kindle freebie romance time! This is a set of six contemporary romance novellas by six different authors. I really liked this when I read it six years ago, but I have to admit I don’t remember any of the stories at this point except for the Melanie Jacobson one, which was funny and witty and worth the price of admission by itself. So if this kind of read is your brain candy of choice, grab it while it’s free!

Another great collection of stories. I really enjoyed this one, the stories were all fun and had some great romance. I like that each short story felt like a full book. I hate it when short stories are brief and unbelievable. The stories here all felt complete and the relationships were all believable. I think my favorite was Rachael's, but they were all fun.

Content: Clean.

Love Bytes was included in the Summer Wedding Anthology. Bree and Dallen are maid of honor and best man to their respective friends Addison and Slade. Addison is normally a cool laid back girl, but a very demanding bride. Bree and Dallen exchange contact info and bond over the wedding planning shenanigans. I loved the funny dialogue between them, which is something I've come to expect and love in Melanie Jacobson's books. I love that there's two months of online and text flirting before they fall in love. Sometimes I feel like the romance is rushed in novellas, but it felt natural here. It was a sweet funny story, and I recommend reading the anthology.

Merged review:

I've read three of the stories, and so far this is my favorite anthology yet. Cute romances, lovable characters, and interesting plots: I'm in love! It's especially fun reading about summer weddings as it's snowing here right now. Escapism reading at it's best!

"[I] promised my dad years ago to never kiss a girl without giving her ample opportunity to tell me to take myself off."

"I didn't tell you to take off."

"I noticed."

Summer Wedding Collection (2013, Mirror Press), third in the multi-author A Timeless Romance Anthology series is a collection of six contemporary romance novellas. I always trust the Timeless romances to be reliably chaste and enjoyable.

Rating: 4 stars
Narration: It's been too long since I listened to this to rate the narration, but I'm confident the narration was very good.

------------------------------------------------

Love Bytes by Melanie Jacobson: 4 stars

From the blurb: "Bree is the maid-of-honor and Dallen is the best-man. While they plan and plot over email and texting, Bree realizes that the best part about the Maui wedding might be meeting Dallen. . . ."

I didn't - and still don't - like the following quotations:

"I just tried to make an emoticon for an eye roll, but it looked like . . . boobs."

"He's gorge-until-you're-sick delicious."

These quotations just seem indicative of an immature character and don't really amuse me.

The misunderstanding - and ensuing reactions - that occur in this story also feel immature. Assumptions and a lack of communication happen in real life sometimes, but I don't like the extent of it here. And it's rarely something I enjoy in a story.

And then there's the language I wouldn't expect to see in a Timeless Romance Anthology:

And "You so much."

Otherwise the story was fine. (Update: Pascale's review reminded me of some things I liked about this story, including dialogue and emails. I'm raising this individual review to 4 stars.)

------------------------------------------------

Romeo and Julie-ex by Julie Wright: 4 stars

From the blurb: " 'Romeo' turns out to be a two-timing jerk, and when Juliet Moore’s pre-ordered wedding dress arrives from UPS, Juliet curses everything male. In a stubborn streak, she decides to keep the bridal photography appointment. . . and meets photographer Jack Montague. . . "

Content: Just as in the previous story, there's at least one instance of language that is outside what I would hope to see in a Timeless Romance Anthology book. An example is in the following spoiler.

Also, I wasn't thrilled with the premise of making "Romeo" pay for something just because she was stuck with a lot of bills. I can't completely get behind a heroine who decides to do something like that.

On the positive side, kudos to the author for making this story work even though it is about a new relationship one short week after the old relationship ended. Impressively, I was convinced of the plausibility of that scenario, AND the story felt realistic for the most part. Very cool.

------------------------------------------------

The Meltdown Match by Rachael Anderson: 4.5 stars

From the blurb: ". . . Courtney spends each summer in her hometown of Heimel, Alaska, to find inspiration for her next novel. But when she runs into former high school friend, Mitch Winters, and they both win the Meltdown Match—a traditional dating contest—Courtney discovers that leaving her hometown at the end of the summer might not be so easy this time. "

This story was lovely. I didn't care for the superstitious aspect of Courtney's character, but other than that, I thought it was great. I'd not previously read anything by Ms. Anderson, and I won't hesitate to try her again in the future.
------------------------------------------------

Golden Sunrise by Annette Lyon: 4 stars

From the blurb: " . . .Natalie takes time out of her crazy schedule to fly to Vegas for her best friend’s wedding. Sierra and Jason, high-school sweethearts, are finally getting married. Fortunately for Natalie, her old high-school flame, Adam, has a work commitment and can’t be there as best man. But when she arrives at the wedding rehearsal—late and ragged—Adam is there. . ."

Typically, a lost love type story is a favorite trope of mine. So I did enjoy this story, but felt that the hero was rather foolish back in high school. And continued to be foolish as an adult over the last seven years by not contacting Natalie. However, I suppose the premise is not impossible.

I spotted a couple of sentences that needed editing, Not a big deal, but I found two or three such examples while rereading just a quarter of the story in preparation for this review.

------------------------------------------------

Tide Pools by Heather B. Moore: 4 stars

From the blurb: ". . . Lexi makes a quick trip to Hawaii to attend her friend’s wedding, and she discovers that the engaged couple, Sydney and Apelu, are still trying to match-make for her. Lexi laughs because not only does their friend David have a serious girlfriend, but he owns a restaurant on the island. . . . "

I enjoyed this while listening to it, but strangely had forgotten many of the details of the story. So it must not have been a favorite. The happily ever after feels unrealistic, but not completely impossible.
------------------------------------------------

A Regular Bloke from Stanmore by Sarah M. Eden: 5 stars

"I am playing football. The rest of these clowns are paying soccer.">

From the blurb: ". . . . Abby is helping her sister, Caroline, plan her British wedding. . . Caroline is obsessed with all things British and insists on an authentic wedding in . . . Oregon. When they arrive at Sainsbury House reception hall, it has everything Caroline loves, and the host, Matthew Carlton, even has a British accent."

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. Any story with such nice people will find favor with me! I did find a couple of sentences that should have been edited.

------------------------------------------------

Is this collection clean/chaste? Yes!

Other content issues: The language in a couple of stories isn't as clean as I'd prefer. (See the individual reviews.)

***********

The bottom line: As always, it was a pleasure. I'd always recommend any of the Timeless collections to fans of clean romance.

Squee, squee, happy dance. Humming, smiling, more dancing. (Those first two lines are set to music in my mind) Yes, I know. You can't hear it. Probably lucky for you.

I just wanted to set the stage for my excitement over being able to read and review this book, or collection of stories put into one book. If you are a reviewer, you always have a book (or two) you are supposed to be reading because you have a review coming up you need to write. And we all know that sometimes when a book comes along that you just really want to read and cannot wait, you shove all other books aside (kindly and respectfully, of course) and you delve into the book that is calling to you because you just cannot help yourself. I know I'm not the only one to do this. (am I?!)

This collection of short stories falls right into my happiest reading place. I must also mention that these are some of my very favorite authors. These romantic snippets of love are just perfect for reading one at a time in between whatever other things you have going on or they are also equally perfect read all the way through, one right after the other, in an obsessed "I have to have more" style. (I'm not going to tell you which way I read them because labeling myself as obsessed is just wrong. I prefer dedicated.)

I loved every single one of these stories. They were all satisfying and delicious. This would be a perfect summer beach read with a tall glass of raspberry lemonade. You will finish this book feeling happy and romantically fed. :)

My thanks to Rachel Anderson (who is one of the 6 gifted writers in this book) for sending over the book for me to review. She is awesome. (and she has a new book coming out soon. I cannot wait to read it!)

I am a romantic at heart--especially when it comes to weddings. I think that's why I love romance books so much. I love to see how two people meet, fall in love, and begin their happily ever after (yes, I know it takes a lot of hard work to actually get there). I also think that's why I loved this collection so much!! Weddings, weddings, and more weddings.

As with the previous anthologies, I absolutely love the fact that some of my favorite authors write these great little stories that are just the perfect size. I've said before that I'm not a big fan of novellas, but these stories are well-written and accomplish what they need to without leaving me dying for more.

It's so hard to pick a favorite--weddings set in Hawaii, Alaska, NYC, etc. are just so romantic and the characters and situations are all so different. Like before, I'm sure if I were to read this again next week, it would be different, but I'd have to say that Melanie Jacobson's probably won out for me this time around. Oh, so hard to choose a favorite!!

Content: kissing in all; talk of getting drunk in one.

So fun!! This was an awesome read. Summer Wedding Collection is comprised of six short stories which are all obviously focused on summer weddings. Each story felt complete despite their short length. You can read just one story at a time or you can knock the entire book out easily in 24 hours as I did.

I appreciate clean romance. It has become my favorite thing to read so this book was perfect for me. I had already read books by four of these authors and am very familiar with the other two. This is a book I can recommend without hesitation to anyone who enjoys good clean romance.

After several years of photographing weddings, I have a love-hate attitude about them. It's such a special day, but there is so much work and planning that goes into them, the emotions can run high and it's the perfect recipe for drama. I guess that's why they make good stories! ;) I enjoyed these novellas because they focus on someone besides the bride and groom falling in love. Sometimes I feel the plot ends too quickly-right when things are getting good... but that's the nature of short stories. I loved that each setting was unique and the premises were creative.

This was an anthology that I loved. There were some of my favorite authors with sweet, clean romances that I heartily recommend to anyone who loves the first butterflies of love.

Each story had great characters with chemistry and I finished reading with a smile on my face, although there were a couple that I wished went on longer, just because the characters were so great. There was also one that was very poorly edited with words missing and tenses wrong, which made it feel out of place to me since the others were so well done, but if you can overlook that, it was an anthology that belongs on my rainy day shelf to read again and again.

I thought I would put which novella was my favorite, but honestly, I can't choose. There really were some great bite-sized romantic stories that made me sigh like a schoolgirl.

Although I tend to shy away from short stories, I happened to download this Summer Wedding Collection before I realized that it was a collection of six separate and unrelated short stories ranging in length from 63 to 75 pages in length. What they have in common is that they are all clean contemporary romances written by skilled and talented authors. If you are one who enjoys sitting down and reading a complete story from start to finish in one sitting, this is a collection for you.

I am not usually a fan of short stories (although I have read a few collections of those, mostly Austen retellings) but this was just what I needed. A well-written bit of escapism. My absolute favourite was Sarah M. Eden's novella, A Regular Bloke from Stanmore. I will definitely have a look at other books by this author.

This anthology was super fun to read. Each story was expertly crafted to help the reader delve into characters and love them quickly; each story had suspense and tension and drew me in.

Love Bytes by Melanie Jacobson used emails and texts in a clever way to start the romance off in this collection. Romeo and Julie-Ex by Julie Wright crushes Juliette right off the bang as her fiance breaks off her engagement just as the UPS man shows up with her wedding dress. The Meltdown Match by Rachael Anderson pairs up Courtney, a wandering writer, and Mitch, the city engineer, in a contest in Heimel, Alaska, where contestants' names are frozen inside ice and whichever girl and boy names melt first are destined to be together by ‘the sun.’ In Golden Sunrise by Annette Lyon, Natalie goes to Vegas for her best friend’s wedding, only to run into her ex-boyfriend from high school that is there to be the best man. Finding she still has strong feelings for him makes her want to avoid him, but that’s hard to do when he has to walk her down the aisle for the wedding of their two best friends. Tide Pools by Heather Moore has two very different characters--Lexi, a serious science major, and David, a hunk with a gorgeous girlfriend hanging all over him--meet up at a Hawaiian wedding. In A Regular Bloke from Stanmore, Sarah M. Eden weaves a charming tale about Abby, who helps her sister plan a crazy ‘English Regency’ wedding. When they find the Sainsbury House with Brit, Matthew Carlton, as the host, Caroline goes nuts, and is sure she’s found the perfect place to have her wedding. Abby agrees, but wants nothing to do with the stuffy British Mr. Carlton.

This was my first time reading one of these anthologies, and I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect the stories to hook me so well since they were short, but they did and I felt it was a fun feast to partake of on a beach, in the back yard...or wherever you want to get away for a little while.

I have really enjoyed the different seasonal collections offered in the Timeless Romance Anthology eBooks. When I saw that Melanie Jacobson, Julie Wright, Rachael Anderson, Annette Lyon, Heather Moore and Sarah M. Eden were all contributing to the Summer Wedding Collection, I was VERY excited to read it. What a talented group of authors!

The Summer Wedding Collection is probably my favorite in the Timeless Romance Anthology so far. The stories are fun and sweet (as usual), with the added bonus of feeling fairly realistic. Although not always possible with novellas, the authors in this collection did a great job of not rushing through their stories.

My favorite story was Romeo and Julie-Ex by Julie Wright. It is such a great romance! It is clean and full of emotion. I loved Jack and Juliet, and thought there were some great one liners.

Other than a couple of swear words in Love Bytes, the stories are clean and quick, entertaining reads.

Of all the Timeless Romance Anthologies, this is the best one yet. What goes better with romance than planning a good 'ol summer wedding? Well, maybe getting jilted at the altar. Twice. Or getting married in Vegas. Or perhaps getting jilted at the altar IN Vegas. Nothing says "wedding" like romantic plight! Each story was fresh and unique. No two were alike. That's what makes these anthologies so much fun to read..and real. No two people are like, nor their romance, and in this case their weddings: Hawaiian luaus, the Vegas strip, a summer solstice that promises love everlasting. But whether or not the solstice is right, this collection dishes up a healthy dose of love and hope. Perfection! Anxiously awaiting the Autumn collection!!!

"Barney's wrinkles clearly showed he'd spent his life happy."

Something light and fluffy to read during finals week to give my brain a break from, well, everything. I do have to say, short stories are a challenge--developing a plot, story line and character development is such a small amount of words is quite a feat. Some fell flat and others were great. My favorites were by Annette Lyon and Sarah Eden. The ones I didn't like as much were due to stereotypical female protagonists and predictability. BUT one does not read romance anthologies expecting the world.

After starting this collection of short stories I have since read all of the related anthologies. I like some stories more than others but it was a fun read. I was looking for something worthwhile to read on my nook that wouldn't cost too much and I wasn't disappointed. These also appealed to me because I love Sarah Eden and one of her stories is in here. I really liked being able to read different authors: it was like sampling appetizers from different chefs all in one spot - delicious!!

I enjoyed this one like I have enjoyed all of the rest. And I can't wait to read the next one. These are fun, light reads. Like I have said for the other two that were written, I wanted the stories to go on. But that is my deal. i know that it is a short story, but I am the kind of person that wants to know what happens. These all just kind of cut off. But I still really enjoyed them!
