Hannah Matthews, an over educated under employed mother of twin girls, takes the girls on the annual Labor Day weekend family vacation while her husband stays behind. By the time she has returned, he has cleaned out their bank accounts, their apartment, and moved in with a surgically enhanced stripper. Try as she might, Hannah is forced to resort to desperate measures: finding a Sugar Daddy. Gavin Meyers, affluent businessman, discovered too late that his bohemian wife wasn't in love with him when he caught her in their bed with a lover...his sister. After a heated meeting with the lawyers trying to arrange the divorce agreement, his lawyer suggests he get a hobby and work out all his anger. He can't think of a single thing he wants to do more than find some woman to punish for his suffering. And it just so happens, he stumbles across a personal ad that will serve his purpose. What kind of woman advertises for a Sugar Daddy?
Nicole has been an author since 2011, but it was after the birth of her daughter, Kenna in January of 2012, that she was determined to make it a full-time career. As the fourth smallest preemie in the world, Kenna’s medical needs would prevent her from ever going to day care.

A cute and simple story of love - you were expecting more? Hannah, a divorced mother of two is desperate for money, food and shelter for her and her two toddlers, decides to place an ad in a paper looking for a "sugar daddy" to take care of all their needs. Enter Gavin, the good-looking, wealthy, successful, and newly-divorced man who harbours so much anger towards his ex-wife’s betrayal. Hannah offers her skills of "entertaining, cooking, cleaning, witty intellectual conversations, and other desirable qualities" that does not include sex. You heard me, no sex. When Gavin comes across the said ad, he sees an opportunity to take his anger out on the unsuspecting woman just because she’s of the female persuasion (stupid right?). However, his plan of revenge flies out the window when she and her kids move into his house. For someone offering all her talented skills (cue eye-roll), they never entertained; they ordered out more often than they cooked; most of the cleaning was taken care of by the already employed maid; and I don’t recall any witty conversations. So in the end, what did she really bring to the relationship? I do recall numerous conversations they would have at the end of the day that became redundant; conversations that reminded me of a child waiting for the principal to call him into his office as Hannah constantly chides Gavin. Since it’s no big secret, they of course fall in love.
"Sugar Daddy" did pique my interest when I read the synopsis, not to mention all the rave reviews; however, I didn't end up loving it. Yes, it's a work of fiction, but the premise of a woman looking for a "sugar daddy" (especially when: (a) sex is not an option; and (b) she has small children), just doesn't ring true. Considering this is a romantic novel, I didn't feel any of the passion others cited. I didn't even feel any connection between Gavin and the kids. In the end I didn't love them nor did I hate them, I just found them boring. I didn’t find Hannah to be anything special, and thought Gavin was a sap.
By the way, did anyone notice that when they got over their little rift at the end, Hannah never declared her love for Gavin? She never said "I love you" which I think is really bizarre especially since he does tell her he loves her and gives her an engagement ring (please, don’t tell me you didn’t see that coming). I have to wonder if the author purposely left it out or if she just forgot to put it in. Also, I would think her best friend, Amy, someone she’s known since kindergarten, would maybe offer her and the kids to move in with her considering she’s makes enough money as a lawyer. Whatever. Read it, don’t read it, it’s up to you.
People change. Motives change. And situations...can change.
Sugar Daddy by Nicole Andrews Moore is a book filled with nothing less than pure romance. The pages aren't filled with profanity or lust. Sex isn't written across every other page, although it does have it's own level of heat written in the right context and placement in the story. Sugar Daddy has indeed proved to be quite the pure modern romance for this romance reader. Sometimes a book will fill me with a familiar feel; one I've experienced in another book, even though the story is not at all the same or similar. Sugar Daddy is that book, having the same "feel" for me as The Proposition and Running on Empty.
Hannah is the mother of two twin girls of the pre-school age who suddenly finds herself financially devastated when her husband leaves her and their daughters, taking every asset they own to live with his mistress, a stripper. On a secretary's wages, Hannah knows she can't make ends meet, and it is just a matter of time before she and the girls are homeless. What kind of woman advertises for a sugar daddy? The desperate kind who simply want to ensure shelter and necessities for her children and herself." Hannah's idea of a sugar daddy and the mass perception of a sugar daddy are two entirely different things. Hannah simply is looking for loveless, sexless, no-strings arrangement that includes a place to live for herself and her girls in exchange for work. In her words, she wants a leg up and not a hand out.
Gavin is a miserable and angry man. Divorced for over a year after finding his wife in bed with his sister, he simply wants revenge....on any woman for the deeds of his ex-wife. Not only is he angry over his divorce and the reason behind it, he is miserable running the family business, his mother is constantly after him to marry and give her grandchildren, and he has always done what is expected of him - not what makes him happy. When he sees Hannah's ad for a sugar daddy in a newspaper, he knows he can kill two birds with one stone - his mother will have instant grandchildren and believe he is finally romantically involved with someone, and he can exact his revenge on a woman by making her so miserable, she will break. He is truly a jerk among jerks.....at first glance. Things aren't always what they seem, and sometime what we get isn't what we are expecting. Such is the case when Gavin meets Hannah. He never expected to worry over her safety, to be drawn to her daughters, he never expected to find he needed Hannah in his life.
Nicole Andrews Moore has written a novel with strong characters who complement and complete each other. The writing is virtually flawless and the events of the story are very realistic. While reading Sugar Daddy, I continually made notes to myself that the book reads as though the author is writing from personal experience....the "feel" of the book is that strong. Sugar Daddy is one of those books that will suck you into the story and not let you go until you receive the full experience of the story. I loved every minute of it, and I would love to see more of Gavin, Hannah, and the twins in the future; I feel as though I've come to know them personally. Kudos to Nicole Andrews Moore for bringing something different to my reading and providing me with a true romantic reading escape.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Absolutely one of the best books for me right now. I loved it mostly because it was fluffy, romantic, and meaningful. he main character Hannah was done some big WRONG! I could not beehive Brett had the nerve to leave her for a stripper. WOW some characters speak to you and she was yelling she would survive. Her best friend Amy is great. She is a divorce lawyer who is helping Hannah pro-bono to remove the bonehead! The circumstances for her meeting Gavin were really cool. I thought the idea was fresh. Some people call me sappy, but I am romantic at heart.
Aurora and Zoe were the twin daughters born to Hannah. She was the best Mom to those girls, constantly putting them ahead of her. She calculates every last penny of her pay, thinks, decides on a whim to place an advertisement in the personals. This begins the journey.
So aside from the romance there are a few really juicy reveals. Some shocking and some so cute. A few times literally my jaw dropped.
It is a must read for those who just love romance.
So I didn't know what to expect from this book after receiving the eARC. I read the synopsis and shrugged my shoulders with a what the hell attitude and dove in. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with this book.
I liked the idea of this book where it shows the desperation to protect one's family at whatever unconventional cost. Hannah went into survival of the fittest mode once her douche of an ex leaves her high and dry. So she decides to look for a sugar daddy now that might not have been my first choice on how to solve things but fate had a different idea and she landed a sugar daddy with his own agenda. However, his agenda was quickly thrown out once he meets Hannah and her girls.
"Funny thing about love, " he mused. "You never see it coming. For me, you snuck in like a thief in the night and stole my heart." loc 2978
I loved the comparison of Gavin's life with The Little Prince and how it was interwoven into the story. I loved the growth of Hannah and Gavin together my really only complaint was it was a bit lengthy at times in this evolution of them. I felt at times I was like" ok okay you like each other but are to daft to see it let's carry on ...." but in the end it was a cute story about love and second chances.
"I want you happy, more. If it takes us being apart, then so be it. Because when you love someone, you put their needs before your own. I know that now. I get that. Life is different because I learned to love from you." loc 5163
Spoiler Ahead This was a pretty good book that I wish was more erotic. Hannah Matthews was desperate while visiting her parents her husband Brett left her and her twins and took everything with him and cleaned out their checking account she has thirty days to find a new place for them to live. Gavin Meyers walked in on his wife having sex with his sister after being away on a trip to surprise his wife India and it has made him bitter so when his lawyer Amy who is Hannah's bestfriend tells him to find a hobby he decides to answer an ad that Hannah placed. Hannah needs to find a "Sugar Daddy" and after meeting a few men known of they are what she is looking for until Gavin shows up intend on revenge to make her pay for someone else doings. I really liked both of these character's Hannah who is the mother of twin four year olds did what she had to do to take care of them. Gavin who is stuck in a job that he hates a mother that gets on his nerves and a sister that he now hates. I liked that Hannah changed his life made him want to really live and the more he was around her the less he wanted to hurt her although he did when she overheard him talking to his lawyer. The sex scenes in this book were not as erotic as I would have liked them to be. The book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling this was my first time reading this author's work and I looking forward to reading more from her.
Let me just say off the top I was sent this book by the author. But in no way does that influence how I write my reviews, since most of of the books I read are free off Amazon or from the library.
I have to say I had no idea what this book was about other then it is a romance. Got the idea really quick & it kept me interested from the first few pages. Hannah & Gavin are two people who have been hurt, shamed, & unloved for so long that they don't know what it is anymore to be loved. He becomes bitter & she becomes a mother cub out to save her babies. Really both are just lost, scared, & looking for a home/family. Follow them on their journey you won't regret it these characters are solid looking for the AMERICAN dream. Happiness.
I ordered this book without reading the back cover to see what it was about. I like to look at the pictures and the name to see if I can figure it out.. I was so wrong..In a good way.. I loved this book and Gavin and Hannah were the best. I was able to feel there pain. See there happiness and fell in love with the story. I will say that towards the end, Ms. Moore kept me wondering what the outcome was going to be.I will admit I was a bit nervous.. Need to have a sequel..
So I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about a woman placing an ad for literally a “sugar daddy”. I don’t like when a man takes advantage of a woman and that is the same for a woman taking advantage of a man. So when I read the description I was leery. However, the plot of the story is nicely done. The reader is able to relate to the characters.
From the beginning, you sense Hannah’s desperation of needing help. Gavin may sound like a jerk, since his sole purpose of having Hannah in his house is to hurt her emotionally, but you begin to understand why these two people actually need instead of wanting to use each other.
It took some time for me to get used to the writing style. Books that I have read in the past, when POVs are switched from the male to female character it’s by chapters. The switch in POVs happens in the middle of the chapter which was interesting and I actually liked since you know what both of the characters are thinking in a scene.
Did I skim? No
Did I feel connected to the characters? Immediately.
Pace of the story: Good.
Positives: It was a lite read. It was perfect since I just got done reading a very heavy, dark read. I was in a mood for a cute romance.
Negatives: The problem I had with the story was Hannah bringing her 2 daughters into a home with a man she barely knew. I really liked Hannah, but I was a little upset about that part of the story.
Do I recommend? It was sweet book so yes.
A copy of this book was given in exchange for an honest review.
This book was recommended to me on amazon based on books I've already read, and I'm really glad that I saw this and bought it. I loved all the characters in this story, especially Hannah and Gavin.(of course) This is a story of a recently single mother with twin girls and a douche bag of an ex, who places an ad looking for a sugar daddy. she gets several men interested. One of those men happens to be a man who was recently involved in divorcing his wife who had cheated on him with his sister, and they fast became involved in a lesbian relationship. Gavin decided he needed somebody to take his anger out on and just happens to see the ad that Hannah had placed. He wants revenge on women in general and decides Hannah fits the bill perfectly. That is until she moves in with him, and he realizes quickly that instead of wanting to hurt her, he wants to help heal her.
I recommend this very cute and heart warming story.
I hate to day this, but I'm almost at the end, and I just can't make myself finish this book. The whole premise does not add up. I can't get over this lady advertising for a Sugar Daddy, and then expecting not to have to have sex with him. That is the whole point of that type of arrangement. Otherwise you should have advertised to be a live-in housekeeper or personal assistant or life coach. I keep comparing it to other books with a similar theme (Lynda Chance's Mistress Mistake is the one that is popping into my head) and this book is just too unrealistic for my tastes. No man is going to provide room and board for a complete stranger and her children if he is not getting compensated physically - or if it's part of his religious calling which is not the case in this book. I'm sorry, I really wanted to like it (since I bought it based on lots of good reviews and an interesting premise) but I can't get over this issue.
Although I had some concern about the initial premise in terms of where this story was going to go, once I spent time with the characters, I soon settled in and enjoyed the ride. The author takes a high concept idea but makes it believable and very human with her ability to write such three dimensional characters that despite the somewhat high-risk situation, they felt very real to me. As I got to know the characters better I felt myself going through a range of emotions from humor to drama and everywhere in between but at no point did I feel like I was being emotionally manipulated or the writing becoming forced. In fact, the writer has a very relaxed writing style and obviously cares for her characters, making them come across as very human indeed, capable of making good decisions but also, from a sense of hurt or pain, some very bad ones.
Sugar Daddy is such a great Modern Day love story. Once being a single mother myself, I could relate to the struggles Hannah had. The stress of working, paying the bills, keeping a roof over the children's heads, keeping food on the table and managing your time between everything, can be so overwhelming. I found myself fully engrossed in this novel after only a few pages. The characters are so well described that I felt like they were friends or family of mine. At times, I felt tears welling in my eyes, then, by the next turn of the page, I would be chuckling to myself. I have added Nicole Andrews Moore to my favorite authors list and can not wait to read her next book!
Another really good read! A really 'nice' story....and I mean that in a very positive way. I read all kinds of stuff, vampires, werewolves, medieval, fantasy....so this was a definite change from all that. This is a contemporary love story, but it felt like a very true-to-life love story. The guy is wealthy, but he's not happy, and the girl is not wealthy, but she's a very strong character....I truly enjoyed this book and would definitely read it again. Recommend without hesitation to anyone who likes contemporary romance, and I would give it 4.5 stars if I could.
I just finished reading Sugar Daddy and I can't say enough wonderful things about it. The characters were engaging and the love story was unbeatable. Clever and thought provoking, I enjoyed every minute spent reading this book.
2.5 Stars!! I stumbled onto this story while reviewing another book of the same name and the storyline was unique enough that I wanted to give it a shot. While the premise of the story and the catalyst for bringing them together was unrealistic, I enjoyed most of the story.
Summary: The last six months have been a struggle just to survive and a life of hanging on the edge for Hannah Matthews. Being the mother of twin girls is chaotic enough at times, but trying to live off her meager secretary's salary is slowly wearing her out and she keeps sinking deeper into debt. It wasn't always this bad. Hannah was married to a man she thought she loved, but when he sent her on an innocent Labor Day vacation to her parents' and she returned to an apartment with nothing in it but overdue bills, she knew better. Worse, he's left her for a surgically enhanced stripper. With no other options and money becoming increasingly harder to acquire, Hannah turns to personal ads and does the unbelievable: advertises for a Sugar Daddy. Although a crazy idea, Hannah takes the risk and starts her screening process because she has the girls to provide for. They are her world and she'd do anything to make sure they are safe and secure. With only a small amount of hope, she plunges head first into her plan, not knowing what to expect. Gavin Meyers is angry. After discovering his free-spirit wife in bed with his sister, he can't seem to control the fury that envelopes him whenever he sees his soon-to-be ex-wife and sister or the anxiety that stops him cold if he tries to enter his old room. Upon the advice of his lawyer, Gavin must find an outlet for his anger and betrayal. Something of a hobby that channels the energy he has begun to let go of in court proceedings. His only thought is to take his revenge on another woman. Punishment for the whole gender in a way. It will release the pent up emotions he has and serve to heal what's broken in him without jeopardizing his divorce negotiations. Happening upon an ad for a woman looking for a Sugar Daddy seems just the thing. Gavin and Hannah's meet is cold and business-like, but it's clear both will get what they need, although Gavin doesn't let on to his real plans. Moving in together and spending time with each other and the children will change everything. When Gavin thought of the type of woman who would advertise for a man to take care of her, he never anticipated a woman like Hannah. Now, Gavin is repeatedly failing in his endeavors of revenge because he can't seem to want to want to do anything but take care of the fragile woman he's come to care about. Hannah needs to be independent as much as possible under the circumstances. Gavin is intense and sends confusing emotions raging through her heart, mind, and soul. With marriages ending, interference from close friends and family, two four year olds, and the start of dreams, Gavin and Hannah will have to decide what their hearts truly desire and where they belong in the world.
Hannah was interesting. I picked the book because of the unique and unrealistic storyline, but right off I saw other options for Hannah. She could have asked her successful best friend, Amy, for a place to stay or moved home to Wilmington with her parents until she was on her feet. I did admire her determination to be as independent and helpful as possible. Gavin was a confusing hero. He was all over the place in his behavior. One minute he was the strong alpha male out for revenge, then he'd be the vulnerable needy man, then he'd be the strong alpha male who knows what he want and will get it, then back to vulnerable. It was a roller coaster ride. I like my heroes to have many qualities, but I always want them to have that underlying alpha male personality, and at times I felt Gavin lost that. The situation was a bit unbelievable but I still enjoyed the romance. There were quite a few things missing, though. For example, the rulings for both divorces and alimony/child support hearings. We never got to know how they turned out. Also, Hannah was strong and fiery when it came to Gavin and she was plenty mad at her ex-husband, but she never confronted him with her anger. I definitely would have, especially of his stripper was trying to rub up on my new man. I also wish there was an epilogue to tell us how they did in future. How did they compromise on Gavin's dream and still make it where Hannah felt useful? Overall, it was an interesting story, but has the potential for so much more. <3
I actually enjoyed this book. After reading the synopsis, I thought it had an interesting story line.
Hannah has just been duped. She is on vacation with her 2 twin girls, and comes home to a husband who has left her. Taken everything in the apartment, all the money, and moved in with his surgically enhanced stripper girlfriend. With a not so good job and little money, she resorts to putting an ad in the paper for a "Sugar Daddy". But not in the sense that you think. She just needs a place to stay to save some money and get back on her feet. That's all.
Next we meet Gavin Meyers. He's recently divorced after finding his wife in bed with his sister. He's extremely pissed off at the female race and wants to find a women to punish for his ex wife's behavior. Gavin comes across the ad in the paper, and decides this women will fit the bill for his revenge.
Little does Gavin know, once Hannah comes In to his life, revenge isn't looking so good after all..
This story was full on angst, love, and humor. It was sad at times, but still filled with hope and love. I felt for Hannah. She had been dealt a horrible hand, and was trying to find any way to get a step ahead and take care of her girls.
I do have a few things I didn't like, which is why I gave it 4 stars.
1. I didn't like that Hannah doesn't say I love you once to Gavin throughout the entire book. I don't understand that.
2. The ending was VERY short. I would have liked to have a little more to it.
3. While it is a creative story line, I thought it lacked a little in character development.
4. This is a small thing but I can't help but mention. Hannah says In her ad cooking is one of her duties, but all throughout the book she is most always ordering out. While its a minor thing, I couldn't help but notice it.
It does have a HEA, for those of you who are wondering.
So all in all, it was a great story filled with hope, love, trust, and new beginnings ;)
I won five of Nicole Andrews Moore’s books at a contest and I really wanted to start reading them as soon as I got them. I started with Sugar Daddy because I find the whole idea fascinating and I wanted to read another book on the subject.
The book description is really good, the plot is well written, but I was unable to connect. The book is nothing special in my opinion. It’s good, but not good enough for my taste. I really want to try the other fours books I have and see if they are any better because all of them have great synopsis.
In my opinion, a lot of things happened too fast, there should have been a few more scenes to make the transition smoother. The action didn’t feel as interrupted as what I like to call “black screen” type, but I still felt that there should have been something more.
I didn’t really like the characters. I admire Hannah for trying to find a solution to her problems even though she chose an unorthodox path. I don’t judge her. Most mothers would do anything in their power to make sure that her children are safe and well cared for. Hannah was created to be a model character and one that you would sympathize with and really like, but I simply couldn’t connect with her. I couldn’t become invested in her story.
Gavin is a character I could have liked, he could have made my book boyfriend list, but there was something missing there as well. I expected more from him. I expected him to try and solve his problems and be consumed by them until he did so. He was affected, but as much as I think he should have been.
This is not a book I couldn’t stop reading. It took me quite some time to finish it even though it’s an easy read.
The cover is beautiful and eye catching, the description is intriguing, but the book is nothing more than an easy read, in my opinion. I feel kinda of bad for writing a not so good review, I don’t usually do this, but as much as I thought about it, I couldn’t write a better one.
Sugar Daddy drew me in, tied me to a chair and glued my Kindle to my hands. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Please don't tell my hubby anything different!) When I bought it, I had planned to read it on random breaks throughout the day while checking off items on my massive to-do list. Oops! That plan went right out the window.
Having read Hiding Out, I was somewhat familiar with Nicole's style of writing. I knew that I liked it. I knew that her writing made me feel as if I was one of the characters. I knew that I would have trouble doing anything else once I read the first page. Did I let any of that deter me? Pfft...NO! And guess what?!!? The dirty floors and dirty laundry didn't disappear, but I did! I spent the better part of my day on Lake Norman with sweet Hannah, her twins girls, and Mr. Gavin Meyers.
As a mom, one of my biggest fears is having to raise my kids on my own. Single moms have my utmost respect. Hannah is no different! She finds herself with a loser spouse who strips their bank account, strips their apartment of furniture, and strips Hannah of her pride. Loser boy leaves Hannah with 2 girls and no support...period. Can you say deadbeat dad?
What does Hannah do? Does she lay around crying and wallowing in her misery? Did she throw things and punch holes in the wall in anger? Nope! She stayed level headed and mature. When all else failed and she was just breaths from the edge of destitution, she grasped the last straw she could find, praying it would be salvation for both her girls and herself.
Want to know what happens next? Exercise that 1-click finger. When you finish, come back and let me know what YOU thought! Betcha love it! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B...
Anything can happen...motives change...people change...situations change. This is what we see in this story. It wasn't what I expected and at some points this story did feel lacking...Such as the ending. I'm just not a huge fan of how changes are made the main point and it's building, building, and building...but the end just sort of poofs out of existence.
I was sorta not a fan of Hanna's character. She takes out an add for a Sugar Daddy, gets one, and then gets pissed when he splurges. Uhm what is the definition of a Sugar Daddy? Gavin to me didn't seem like an alpha male type that I usually come across in books like this. He seeks to find a women to punish after his divorce. He finds a woman advertising for a sugar daddy and wants to make her pay. However it's not in him to go through with it once he meets Hanna. He succumbs to everything she asks and is basically under her spell. Not a bad thing, just not what I thought I was gonna get the the description of the book.
I have to admit that just the name of the book almost put me off reading it. I had grabbed it for free some time ago, as a part of a 3 book package by this author, so it had been on my Kindle for a while. I didn´t read the synopsis before I started it, just decided to dive in. The concept, placing an ad in a paper to try to get yourself a Sugar daddy to help you out financially, is just weird in my opinion, seriously, does anyone do that? Okay I know, this is fiction, but serisously?! Having said that...I really enjoyed this book. I was glad I got over the Sugar daddy concept that bothered me alot in the beginning and stuck it out, because I thought this was just a beautiful story, about love, about two people that had both been badly hurt in the past and having their second chance at finding love. It completely held my interest the whole time I was reading it.
Heartwarming. Gavin has lost sight of his dreams and trust in women. Hannah, thanks to her x-husband has lost faith and trust in men. The way they meet and come together is unusual, but it is sweet as they get to know each other and watch their love grow. Thanks to goodreads since this is a book I won....
I really enjoyed this story. Hannah is a single parent of twin girls and she advertises for a sugar daddy as she can't afford to provide for her family on her salary after her husband leaves her for a stripper. Gavin has been cheated on by his wife with his sister and he wants revenge on women. Hannah moves in with Gavin and they fall in love. HEA but lots of drama getting there. 4*
It was sweet, but the circumstance that drew them together was very unrealistic. I mean who places an ad for a Sugar daddy.. However. I was still interested in the outcome, and I do like reading stories about single moms and seeing how they can have a HEA..
I liked it, I didn't know what to expect with a title like "Sugar Daddy" but the story flowed nicely and the characters were relatable.. I loved reading a book from everyone's point of view, even though it focused on Hannah and Gavin, it included everyone's thoughts..
This book was good. The only problem I had was the irrationality on the part of Gavin. Your wife treats you like crap so that means all women deserve to pay for what she did to you? That's the logic of a little boy. But other than that, I enjoyed the book.
This was not what I was expecting to read. It was way way better! A sweet love story. A mom who will do anything for her children including advertising for a sugar daddy. A man who wants revenge for a marriage spoiled. Two halves becoming one. I have found myself a new to me author to love.
