The D'Amato Brothers #3

Where I Wanna Be

Rate this book
Eliodoro “Eli” D’Amato had the perfect life: a beautiful wife, an adorable son, and a growing family business. His perfect life was a problem – it was mundane and routine. He knew Thursdays were pizza nights. He knew Sundays were Netflix nights. He knew every other morning, his wife would ‘surprise’ him with sex.

Eli also knew…he was unhappy.

When an old girlfriend, Simone Harris, pops into Madre’s, she and Eli get a chance to reconnect with each other. She had traveled the world, loves salsa dancing, and loves cigars. Most importantly, she’s sexy and very available. She makes Eli discover everything he wanted to have and was missing in his life: excitement and passion.

Eli finds himself in a peculiar situation: does he remain committed to his high-school sweetheart or does he pursue what could have been?

Where I Wanna Be is the third story in the D’Amato Brothers series. It is a sensual/erotic book that deals with the problems that arise with marriage, commitment, and trust.

I have mixed feeling about this book I don't like the turn of events in this book , I don't understand , I hated what happened , but is so real to life that it made me cry. I understand what the author was trying to accomplish but I did not like it.

Eli and Faith's story is REAL. It story is real life and just like real life it has ups, downs, curves and smooth paths. Also like in real life the decisions that the characters make effect not only them but everyone who they love and who is connected to them. (Including their child who's life has the possibility of being forever changed based on his parents' decisions.) For good or bad, better or worse reality is that the decisions that you make have the power to change not only your life but the lives of everyone around you. Like dominoes.

Bottom line is that Eli and Faith were high school sweethearts that married and are now adults. They seem to have it all: a child, nice jobs, nice houses, money and cars. The wonderful thing is that they have been together since they were teenagers. The problem is that they have been together since they were teenagers.

Eli has always been the "dependable" brother out of the five D'Amato boys. Always the one to sacrifice for someone else and to give up his wants and dreams for the benefit of others. He hits the space in his life, like most of us do, where he self evaluates. He's now at a place where he loves his wife, he loves his family, he loves his job...but real life can get boring and predictable. He wonders if where he is in life is where he's supposed to be. If what he has and what he is doing is right. Unfortunately, like some people who have been together since they were young, he is at a place in his life where he looks around and wonders if this is it. The question is even further strengthened when he runs into his FIRST. His first love, his first lover, his first real relationship. Simone.

Simone has her own issues that further complicate things. She is at a place where she is wondering too. A beautiful, successful business owner in the same industry as Eli she appears on the outside to have it all together. She sees her first love and she begins to wonder. She wonders what it would be like to have Eli back in her life. She has compared all of the men in her life since Eli to him and they have all come out lacking. She wonders what it would be like to have him in her bed and in her heart. Eli represents more to her than just a lover. Their short time together also offered her a glimpse into real acceptance and family. Something she is lacking at her own home. Something she wants.

What happens when you leave a relationship by walking out of a door when you don't CLOSE that door? If the door is closed you can look back and reminisce. You can think about the good and the bad but you can't see in. When you leave the door opened or even cracked then you can be tempted to walk back in. Eli and Simone clearly have an opened door. The question is will they walk back through that door and if they do will they be happy with what is in the room when they get there? If you do walk through the door what happens to the other people who you leave when you do go in?

The question to walk away with is what happens if wondering leads to wandering? How do you pick up the pieces and DO you pick up the pieces?

Ms. Roberts's writing skills are so good that you will laugh and cry as you read this story. Empathize and sympathize. I cried with the characters, laughed at them and blushed at some of the things that they said and did. Most importantly I THOUGHT when I walked away from this one. I was the one left wondering. I could see sides of the story from everyone's point of view. The good AND the bad.

There really isn't a villain in this story. It's more like real people making good and bad decisions based on where they are in life, what they know, what they think they want and what they need.

This is a nail biter that leaves us with the definite possibility for a sequel to this story. There is a cliff hanger but that doesn't stop this from being a stand alone story. It just leaves us with enough to know that the D'Amarco story has more to come.

The inconsistencies and labile emotions and behaviors concerning his marriage \wife were maddening. (Think the wife just as odd though 😂 )Moreover as soon as he knew his HS lover was going to be in town,he immediately began plotting. They had been having an emotional affair from the get go,but supposedly they had both been trying to fight off a full on sexual affair. Her because she wanted it all,to be wifed up...and he.because supposedly he loved his immature wife. But when wife saw them kissing and confronted him he immediately took that ire as an excuse to book it and run off to have full fledged public affair w ow. ..No chat...ZOOM,out the door to ow bed....and we are privy to all the exploits! Wtf?. So yeah, wacky.I'm not understanding these relationships...motivations,intent...this storyline! I guess I am just not in tune with the writing, storyline ,characters😂😂😂 I won't rate as I am still scratching my head.😜🙃
Oh yeah.. she.revenge cheats with dude that will.become ow' s man!😯
Also.Cray ,cray in future this book and sequel H will.speak as if this cheating.was a singular event..one time thing, when NO!!! 1 they had a sexual history, dated, were together for long period in HS
2 They carried on for months ,EA,lamenting desire for more, talked of leaving wife 3 Full on affair was lengthy, public, active!!
Moreover ,much resentment and blame placed on her by him, herself, others for not forgiving him or doing so quickly enough or not Immediately accepting his child from the union!
Head spinning, disingenuous scenarios... Gas lighting acceptable for characters and readers, lol??? Again,WTAF???

NO SPOILERS--at least no specifics.

It's a nonstop page turner from beginning to end. I have to admit I had a love-hate relationship while reading this book, and characters. For anyone that has been in a similar situation, as Faye and Eli, it brings the emotions to a whole another level, almost a painful reliving.

I just so happen to love a good tear jerker. Though, this book goes beyond the norm for a love story.

My stomach was tense and I literally felt sick for probably 75% of the book, which, if the author hadn't captivated the story so well I wouldn't have felt it so viscerally. So, even though I hated feeling that way while reading it, she succeeded in making me feel.

With that being said, I will definitely read the sequel. I have never, NEVER, felt so much reading a book. A book has never captivated me, or entranced me, in the way this story did.

Edited: a month and a half later, a couple dozen more books read, and I'm still thinking about this book. Bravo Miss Vera.

A really good page turner from beginning to end. I have to admit, Eli's triangle didn't turn out the way I wanted it to, and the whole ending was a bit surprising, and I am dying now to read a sequel on Eli because he really needs it. I'm not totally convinced on his and Faith's relationship, and Simone remains the elephant in the room, although no one knows about it. Another well written story from Vera Roberts.

Eli was selfish. Faith was weak. Overall a plot driven story with little character development.

How you get him...

...is how you lose him. They say you never forget your first love. I can attest to that and so can Eli and Simone. They had an unfinished relationship and did not get closure. Their love was just ripped away from them. So many years later after seeing each other again, the temptation was just too much. Simone kept trying to stay away from Eliodoro, but his relationship with Faith was rocky and was just the tipping point for Eli to fall. What Eli was not expecting was for Faith to have a suiter. That really rocked his world.

This story had me going through a whirlwind of emotions talking to the characters. "No Eli, don't do it." "Simone girl, don't be a fool." "Faithgirl, be strong." " Darren, man you did not stand a chance." This story accurately depicts all aspects of a marital relationship, and how a breakup not only affects the husband and wife but radiates out to those who care about them. It also shows that if the love is real, all is not lost and one can fight to save one's marriage. It won't be easy to regain trust but if the marriage is where you wanna be, it's worth it. Faith and Eli found that it was worth it for them. I'm just curious to find out what's gonna happen when a hidden bomb is dropped. I guess I'll find out in the next book. It's gonna be a big mess!

Engrossing

I lost a lot of sleep to finish reading this book. The characters were enough to make you want to strangle them at times. Faith was manipulative and spoiled. I think Eli's crisis came about because he didn't consciously recognise how Faith's selfishness was affecting him, having to always give in to appease her childish ways to show how she could control him. She took advantage of his love for her. Yes, he should have found another way to solve the problem. During therapy at the end, I there was no clear reference that was addressed. It only made reference to what he did. Also, I had surmised that Simone was trying to get pregnant by Eli, and she did. I believe that is why she gave in rather easily to the breakup. She couldn't have him, but she had the next best thing...his child. What surprises me was it appeared that Eli seemed to know about this child and visited her. But did Faith know about her and was aware that he visited her (in Texas, no less), and I'm sure was supporting her. Or was that a fantasy? The child definitely

recognized him as her father. I hope that is cleared up in a later book.

Did not like the premise that Eli thought the grass was greener on the other side so he decided to separate from his then realized that lawn wasn't watered to well.

This is my 2nd time reading this book.
Let’s start with reading a series, it’s best read altogether. Re-reading this book, Eli’s story gave me a new perspective, remembered Simone in later part of series and made my judgement call. Starting this book again, things are different. Each character brings something to the conclusion but is it well deserved, it is upon the reader.
This book is divided into 4 parts, and each tells its relatively story. How 3 lives intertwine - past, present and who knows.... future. This is Eli’s story and well deserved.
New twists, new relationships, fascinating drama. Eli, the most trusted and reliable brother has lost his way. Young love and forever souls, throw in past acquaintances, new man candy and we have an outcome of lust. Is it true love or will undying love conquer?
Is there still trust between Faith and Eli? Are there secrets still to be told.
As always, a fantastic series and wanting more.

3.5 star rating.......This was a decent book but I didn't love it.....Eli and Faith both had some things that both of them needed to work on....they both had some growing up to do..... I hope that everything works out for them in the end but I'm not so sure about.....I know there will be a follow-up and I for one can't wait....Hopefully both of them has truly grown up enough to deal with the battle they will face.

I quite enjoyed this story.

Though I do wonder if Eli knows about his daughter with Simone and if so, does Faith know? It sounded as if the little girl had personally met Eli, but then Simone aluded to there being problems if she bought their daughter to NY and we know how Eli and his family are ALL ABOUT family. Hmmm, maybe I'll get answers in the next book.

Wow

Love lost, betrayal, hurt, mistrust, love, faith, family, journey to healing. Vera takes you on a ride of emotions with this book. Eli and Faith go though so much and they take each other though a lot. Does the past win? You should read and find out!
