Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring down another path.
Fully intending to pursue her dream of big city lights and success in the literary world, Kathryn took every creative writing class available at the small private women's college she attended in upstate New York. Instead, other dreams took precedence. She met and subsequently married a wonderful guy who'd attended a neighboring school, then completed her practice teaching, a requirement for the education degree she never intended to use. But says Kathryn, "I fell in love with teaching the first day I was up in front of a class, and knew I was meant to do that."
Kathryn went on to build a successful career in the New York state school system, thoroughly enjoying her work with adolescents. But by the early 1990s, she'd again made room in her life for writing. It was then that she submitted her first manuscript to publishers and agents. Despite enduring two years of rejections, she persevered. And on a snowy December afternoon in 1994, Kathryn Shay sold her first book to Harlequin Superromance.
Since that first sale, Kathryn has written twenty-one books for Harlequin, nine mainstream contemporary romances for the Berkley Publishing Group, and two online novellas, which Berkley then published in traditional print format.
Kathryn has become known for her powerful characterizations - readers say they feel they know the people in her books - and her heart-wrenching, emotional writing (her favorite comments are that fans cried while reading her books or stayed up late to finish them). In testament to her skill, the author has won five RT BookClub Magazine Reviewers Choice Awards, three Holt Medallions, two Desert Quill Awards, the Golden Leaf Award, and several online accolades.
Even in light of her writing success, that initial love of teaching never wavered for Kathryn. She finished out her teaching career in 2004, retiring from the same school where her career began. These days, she lives in upstate New York with her husband and two children. "My life is very full," she reports, "but very happy. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to pursue and achieve my dreams."
Cop Of The YearKathryn Shay (Book One of the Bayview Heights series)
I really enjoyed this story - the characters were really engaging, I believed the conflict to the relationship and I really loved the "background" characters of the kiddies in the "at risk" programme. To be honest, I think the gang storyline was more compelling for me than the romance! :)
On the strength of this novel, I'm thinking of looking at others in ther series. So yes, this really worked for me! 4 stars :)
LOST AND FOUND GROOMPatricia McLinn (Book One of the A Place Called Home series)
Alas, after reading "Cop of the year", this story fell really flat for me. The random bit with the piano was completely baffling and just reinforced my WTF feeling about how the characters acted around each other. It's like the author didn't know how to begin to resolve the conflict and painted herself into a corner with it all.
2 stars.
Somebody's DadJudith Arnold (Daddy School series) Blerg. Even worse that the second book. I really didn't get it, or really care. I slogged through the story, mainly because I was on the bus and didn't have anything else to read. I'm not a big fan of "love at first sight" and having the plot was really frustrating for me. The ending was a bit abrupt as well. Urgh.
1 star.
Falling for YouJulie Ortolon (Book One of the Pearl Island series)
The only author I'd read previously!
Urgh. More insta-love. And even worce . Half way through and it's not boding well.
Three quarters through: unfinishable. Jeeze, these pair of idiots really frustrate me!
1 star.
OVERALL: I'm glad I bought this, as I really enjoyed the Katheryn Shay novel. The others were a bit of a let down though. Averaged out 2 stars, but I think I'll weight the first book a bit more and go for three stars overall. :}
Kathryn Shay's story was great. I purchased this just to read her story. I may read the others eventually.
Strong-willed female protagonist which always draws me into a story. Devastatingly handsome male protagonist who occasionally treads on the toes of female protagonist not realizing she's not one to mess with. Both willing to sacrifice to help others in their community(ies).
Kathryn Shay's books are always engrossing and worth every penny to read.
COP OF THE YEAR by Kathryn Shay: I loved this romance and story about troubled teens in an At-Risk program! A real page turner!! LOST AND FOUND GROOM by Patricia McLinn: I loved this romance about healing hurts and uniting a family! I was transported to Far Hills, Wyoming and the undeniable love of Daniel and Kendra! Another page turner! SOMEBODY'S DAD by Judith Arnold: Unique take on romance between a confirmed bachelor with no tolerance for kids and a single mother with a toddler going through the terrible twos. Loved how the power of love healed the baggage from his past that caused his intolerance!! A great read! FALLING FOR YOU by Julie Ortolon: Fighting tradition and familial obligations, Chance can't fight his attraction and desires for Aurora! Beautiful romance of how opposites attract and compliment each other! Great start to the Pearl Island Trilogy!
I'm currently on book 3 of 4. Which Somebody's Dad was the reason I bought this box set. I though of just skipping and read that one first, but I'm glad I didn't.
Cop of the Year was good. I really liked the students. And I put the rest of the series for future purchases.
Lost and Found Groom I loved. Even to the point that the male character Daniel had me in tears. And yes I'm going to get the following books in the series!!!
Heart Stealers is a four novel anthology full of sexy heroes and charming hot and beautiful ladies and best of all full of romance.
Story List:
Cop of the Year ~ Bayview Heights Series ~ Book 1, by Kathryn Shaw Lost & Found Groom ~ A Place Called Home ~ Book 1, by Patricia McLinn Somebody's Dad ~ Daddy School ~ Book 2, by Judith Arnold Falling For You ~ Pearl Island Series ~ Book 1, by Julie Ortolon
I LOVED the first and fourth books. The middle two were hard to relate to because I've never had kids and don't care to read about the trials and tribulations of motherhood. Otherwise I would have given this a 4-star.
Ps. I am going to read the 2nd and 3rd books that go with the last book.
Four complete novels one great price. At only 99¢ I was unsure of the content when I first purchased the set. I have to say from the first novel to the last I never once felt cheated. Each story is unique from the next, a set of sweet romances that touch the heart.
I like having 4 books together. I enjoyed Cop of the Year, the first book. The second and third books were okay. And I didn't finish the fourth book which is really unusual for me. I just could not get into it.
Four books for an awesome price. All four are part of a series but can be read as standalone book. All but Somebody's Daddy are starters to a series, Somebody's Daddy is part of a series but the starter. All are well worth the read.
I would have given this a 5 but I didnt really care for one of the books in this set, but it was an excellent value and I got to read novels by two authors I havent read yet. Definatly worth reading.
If you are into books that group together books that have I would say similar interest then this is you. For me this was a great read. I really enjoyed it because the men really did steal you Heart.
