PITH is a collection of 100 very, very short stories. Most are dark, some are strange, some will make you smile. Each story barely fills one page. PITH shouldn't be thought of as an experiment in brevity but rather a celebration of a reader's own imagination. These stories are intended to be digested slowly. Pick up the book, read a story, have a moment or two in another world. The "real" world gets a bit heavy sometimes, don't you think? What if there were nightbears to worry about instead?
I received this not long ago (won it via GoodReads!!) and immediately got enraptured with each and every little stories! He did more than taking it outside of the box; he managed to somehow create a whole new genre of writing. Job well done!!
I had the delightful experience of being a Goodreads First Reads winner and received an autographed copy of Pith. Yay!
Pith takes the short story and pares it down to very brief but tantalizing tales, each contained in half a page or so, allowing the reader to flesh out the surrounding story with their imagination. I enjoyed this fresh take on the genre. Some of the stories immediately brought one clear image to my mind, others brought a myriad of possibilities to my imagination and a few I found myself rereading and pondering what might be going on.
Most of the stories in Pith are rather dark, especially if your imagination leans towards the dark side like mine. Each story is rather like a brief trip into the twilight zone of your mind - a delightfully eerie sort of fun. I found the story "Taking It all in" especially haunting in that wonderful way that keeps you thinking of a story long after you finish reading it.
I recommend Pith to any readers who enjoy exercising their imagination and are looking for something fresh and different. Very enjoyable!
This seems like it could be an intriguing anthology. I specifically like the fact that they are odd short stories. Oddities are a part of my everyday life and to see that in a story would be exciting.
