A sadistic killer has turned Port Sorrow into his personal hunting ground.
Traveling the stripper circuit of small town America, Finn is a female impersonator with a golden voice who never made the big time. His latest stop is Port Sorrow, a rough-and-tumble coastal town on the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula. In the audience tonight, rookie deputy sheriff Julia Rusk has drawn the short straw and is scanning the rowdy audience for signs of a suspected serial rapist. A shotgun blast brings these two strangers together as a young stripper bleeds out on stage. While Julia tries to find the gunman and prove she's worthy to wear the badge, Finn takes the law into his own hands. Tracking through seedy dockside bars and the hidden world of the homeless, Finn comes to realize just how many lives this killer has touched. But what neither of them realizes is the killer doesn't work alone, and not even the police can protect them when he finally shows his face.

This was a really good find. Got this book free on Bookbub and I have to say it was surprisingly good. I l started to lose interest a little bit in the middle but then it picked back up and kept me hanging on. Definitely worth reading.
If this book had gone any faster I may have got whiplash! Grant has found his Genre. He knows what his fans want. Loved JL (please write more books about her)! Absolutely fell in love with Finn (if you dont write books about him I will be very unhappy)! Dirty/Good cops, Murder, Intrigue. Ok Agatha Christie on heat for the 21st Century! Love it Love it Love it. Again Grant, i am lost for words!!
Not bad! Entertaining and fast pace. I enjoyed being surprised left and right. I like how the author developed then characters where I hated them and loved them! Good read and fast!
This was an unusual book by an author I had never read. It held my interest and was not your usual murder story. The characters were interesting and one of the people involved in the murders wasn't known until near the end and I had not suspected him. There were some pretty brutal murder scenes but nothing overly disgusting and I skimmed a few sentences if I didn't want to read them. Overall good read if you like suspense and I liked that I didn't have to deal with romantic interest in the two main characters. I will look for other books by this author.
A brand new female cop gets sucked into a major crime spree in a small town. She is set up to fail in order to protect the chief of police and his secret connection to the killer/rapist. Great small town setting and the people were very realistic.
If it's somewhat outrageously violent detective thrillers with a strong female lead (this one has one and a half female leads...hard to explain), then this book is for you. I found it entertaining, but to me, the sign of a great book is me running to Wikipedia and finding out what other books this author has out there. This is McFiction - filling, disposable, and a bit of a guilty pleasure. But I didn't look for more of this author's works. Three and a half stars.
An average thriller. Nothing bad about it, nothing great about it.
This was a free / 0.99p download I’ve had on my kindle for years. I wouldn’t pay full price for it.
It’s a bit dumb in places and throws in the odd surprise in places.
It’s main characters work in a strip club so if you don’t want to read about tits and ass being shaken, along with details of women’s underwear, give it a miss.
What a tangled mess of killing in Port Sorrow! Even though I figured out who "Little Brother" was fairly early on, I still enjoyed this book. Such an interesting cast of characters, and tension filled, this was a Good read from Grant McKenzie. I look forward to reading more from him.
This review is going to be very short. I did not finish the book, simply because it was highly inappropriate. There were a lot of sexual references. I found the book to be very humorous. I'm not sure if it was intended as so, but I thought it was hilarious just because of all the things that happened. So, if you're the type of person that doesn't have a problem with sexual references in books, and you enjoy books with comedic value, then this book could be for you. The plot seemed very interesting, but I just had to force myself to stop reading and protect any shred of innocence that was left in me. Haha.
Actually, I am not sure that this was an okay book. There is a great deal of violence and sex--not sure for what reason. Finn, a female impersonator with a great voice, and excellent skill in costumes and dressing, loses his best friend. All the characters get beaten up and/or killed. There are many strippers involved, and a young female police officer who tries to do her best. It is set in Washington state. Very good characterizations--could use a better plot.
I can't believe I wasted so much time reading this book. I felt compelled to finish it just to see "who did it" and then it really wasn't all that much of a surprise once I got to the end. Brutally, unnecessarily graphic, in my mind. Not something I would ever want to read again. Disappointing.
