You’ll experience a more fulfilling Easter season with this collection of inspirational thoughts on trying to become more like the Savior. For forty days, enjoy a daily scripture and personal insight on a character trait of Jesus Christ. Learn more of who He was and what He taught.
As you read these daily devotionals, you’ll feel a joyful connection to the character of Jesus Christ, understand how much He is involved in your life, and discover how knowing Him better makes your life better, too.
This book is made up of 40 daily devotionals. Each takes five minutes or less to read focuses on biblical passages and messages to ponder.
Connie Sokol has included practical applications to enrich daily activities. This book is written to give mothers inspiration and sage advice. Each devotional ends with a thought for the day and a way to apply the message into your life for the day.
This was a nice little devotional book with very short, read-in-a-minute chapters highlighting various attributes of Jesus Christ. I particularly appreciated the author's applications of these attributes to her everyday life -- and it wasn't always the same ideas we've heard again and again in Sunday School, either.
I probably could have gotten a lot more out of this book had I taken the time for it -- those tiny morsels were so quick and easy to read that I'd skim through them and then promptly forget the point. No, I didn't internalize the messages very well. That's obviously more my fault than the book's or the author's, though.
Here's a few quotes and passages I found worth highlighting (thanks, Kindle, for making that easy on me at least):
"How often are we running through our day, literally and figuratively, only to miss the people we could have influenced? Moving a little slower might make us more open to those who need our love and encouragement, and likely won’t interrupt the to-do list after all. I often find that when I remember to go about life more slowly and consciously, my to dos are either completed quicker or more conveniently ... Jesus isn’t hurrying down a list of errands or running to a meeting. Instead, He is sitting still and hears the cry for help."
"Then one morning it hit me—my son needed me, and that was the most important use of my time. That was being productive."
"As I read scripture, I see how often it says “might” or “may”—that we might come to Him, that we may have more happiness. He has done every possible thing to make sure that we can be happy, joyful, and fulfilled. And now it’s our turn. We can choose to live life differently, to believe more fully, to understand more deeply His beautiful, functional, and life-giving gospel. To come to know, and love and follow Him more fully. To feel more peace, hope, and surety in this unsure world. And it’s all there, just for us, if we’re willing to receive it, because He loved us enough to make it possible."
40 Days with the Savior is a 40-day devotional designed to be read in the days leading to Easter, but it could be read at any time throughout the year. It is a short book, made up of one-page daily readings, each dedicated to a specific characteristic of Christ. Think of it as an updated version of "WWJD" from a few years ago. Each reading ends with the author asking the reader to reflect upon how they, the reader, can show more of that particular characteristic in their own life.
The devotionals include:
•He Sacrified for Others •He Turned from Materialism •He Did the Right Thing •He Influenced Others for Good
Anyone looking for a new devotional and looking to be more like Jesus will enjoy this book. Normally, I delete review copies from my e-reader (it only holds so much, you know), but I will be keeping this one to read again and again. If your goal is to be a kinder and happier person, buy a copy for yourself, and buy a second copy to share with a friend.

I went into this devotional wondering how much I would appreciate the book. I know the author has a LDS background, but let me put your mind to rest. This is a devotional that will appeal to Christian moms from all walks of life. The Bible is the only thing that is quoted, and experiences from Jesus' life are used as a basis for each day of the devotional. This devotional is perfect for Easter, but it also perfect for any time of the year. As moms, we often struggle to find time to study the Bible. This book can help. Each day's reading provides a Scripture and a practical thought for the day. There is always a question to ask yourself at the end based on the passage for the day. It would only take a mom about one minute to read the day's devotional. And then you can spend the rest of your day applying the truth.
It is safe to say that I was completely impressed with the author and this book. Her simple devotionals were challenging and yet written from the perspective of a real-life mother (she has 7 children, after all!). I highly recommend this book and plan to keep it as one of many devotionals I read now and then.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, an all opinions are 100 percent mine.
I received a review company from the author in exchange for my honest review.
As someone who is just learning what it's like to devote more than a fleeting moment of time with God, I devoured it in two days, drinking in the knowledge that Mrs. Sokol imparts on what it's like to devote your precious time to Jesus through reading the bible, prayer, and raising your children.
Out of all the "clippings" I have created on my Kindle, most of them are now from this book. Little nuggets of invaluable advice, passages from the Bible that sang to my heart. Questions that made me think and wonder if I ever applied the teachings of Christ to my life.
While this is geared towards Easter - and mostly mothers, in my opinion - I feel that it could be read at any time and men could learn a thing or two.
I look forward to reading other books by Connie Sokol in the future.
It’s hard to review a devotional. I know that may sound odd, and I didn’t really realize it until I started to review this, but quite frankly, besides just being written well there is a lot of objectivity in these. Does the author believe what I believe? Does the author have the same view of references and events that I do? And of course, am I really giving the daily readings my full attention? Well, luckily, Ms Sokol and I had some wonderful devotions together. Yes, I loved her devotions, but I found that when I could really devote myself to her writing that each day was a bit brighter. The only real issue I had with this was a formatting issue and I’m pretty positive that was due to receiving an unformatted (ha!) ARC.
I REALLY love books like this... I LOVE the daily dose of scriptural pondering! I am THANKFUL for the insight the author brings to the scriptures. At the end of each page there is also a daily question to help you become more like the Savior...truly WONDERFUL! This book is AMAZING in helping prepare your mind, heart, and soul for the Easter Season.
With Christmas gone, and Easter coming up, this was the perfect book to sit down and read. Each "day" we read about a different aspect that Christ had, and Connie Sokol explains how she sees those same aspects in her own life. Then she encourages us to find the same.
I loved reading this. Anyone who is Christian (doesn't matter the actual faith) will find this book enlightening.

I know this book will be a tradition for me to read each Easter season. The thoughts are short, simple, and thought-provoking. I bought the eBook on Amazon for less than $3, and I think the author is even donating the proceeds to a family in need. Best money you'll spend all week. Trust me.
