Reflect and Write: 300 Poems and Photos to Inspire Writing

Rate this book
Reflect and Write: 300 Poems and Photographs to Inspire Writing presents a collection of more than 300 poems and black and white photographs created by 26 students, 23 teachers, and 12 other writers and photographers nationwide. Each page includes a poem and a photograph as well as a related quotation and four keywords. The purpose of the work is to provide inspiration for the creation or original written compositions,
Many of the poems also include either an Inspiration or a Challenge prompt. The Inspiration prompts are designed to help students think about the poem from a critical point of view. The Challenge prompts encourage students and other writers to complete written works of their own.
Reflect and Write also includes a "Themes to Explore" section, an "Internet Resources" section, a ""12 Ways to Inspire Section," and a "Themes to Explore Section."

Reflect and Write contains enough poems, photos, ideas, and suggestions for writing to last a lifetime. Especially notable are the “Twelve Ways to Inspire Your Students” and “Themes to Explore” sections, as well as the Inspiration and Challenge prompts. And there’s also an “Internet Resources” section. Another feature I found helpful is the accompanying CD that contains all of the photos that accompany the poems. In my opinion, the CD alone is worth more than the cost of the book.

Ideas for writing virtually leap from the pages of Reflect and Write. Photos and poems linked to keywords, quotations, prompts and suggestions combine to provide irresistible inspiration. Every teacher, every writer, will find fresh and compelling concepts to stoke the creative fire, awaken the imagination, and jump-start the writing process. The book is also accompanied by a CD of the photos, which alone can be used to provoke the imagination along even more creative paths. Although written for students in Grades 7-12, more mature writers will also benefit from the endless variety of writing ideas that abound between its covers. A definite "must have."

Young people can be so creative and expressive in their writing. The poems that are included in this book are proof of that. This book is meant to inspire even more. My own 8th grade English teacher was a kind woman that loved to use songs and photo's to get our creative juices flowing. Sometimes she included art in hopes that we would be inspired enough to write. This book reminds me of her and I think she probably would have loved using this book in her class. For use in grades 7 through 12. 300 Poems and Photographs to Inspire Writing includes a CD w/ photo's and poems from the book. This could be used in a classroom or a home school setting very well.
There are also internet resources listed that would be quite helpful for teachers and/or students.
There is section called "12 ways to inspire students' which is perfect. This book is wonderful and should be in every junior/senior high school.
