Get your hunting knife people! Parade of the Sun is a mix of Tomb Raider / Indiana Jones / The Beach / and a whole lot of LOST.

post war / enemies-to-lovers / adventure / survival / mystery / romance / Draco and Hermione really really hate each other / they get physical in every sense / a bit of smut is also in there

Before we begin some disclaimers:
I am a big Everythursday fan, I love her writing. If you didn't like The Fallout, move on traveler.
Also, if you are expecting a classic Dramione story here, you will be disappointed. There are none of the classic tropes that you look for and love in any fanfiction.

About the story
Shortly after the war, we follow Hermione as she tries to work her way up from an entry-level job in the Ministry. She is tasked with researching the rumors that there is a magical plant named Floralis Fati with time travel powers. After a short time, she discovers that not only she is researching the plant, but also Draco Malfoy.
The two engage in a fierce battle to be the first to find the plant. In the process, they do not shy away from sabotaging each other or getting physical with each other. The search leads them to a tropical archipelago. Driven by the race and the fear that the other might find the plant first, they both travel to the first island unprepared. Once there, they discover that the islands will not let them leave easily.

My thoughts
The story is built from many adventure elements. It's a lot about classic survival, but also about solving mysteries and riddles. Similar to Lost, the impression is that the islands are working against our favorite couple.
Both Draco and Hermione are very competent and BAMF with their wits, inventiveness, competence and stamina.
It is true that some parts are very slow or repetitive. However, I enjoyed it very much as I found the banter and bickering between them really amusing.

As mentioned at the beginning, Parade of the Sun is not a classic Dramione story. Hermione and Draco hate each other's guts at the beginning. It takes an unbelievably long time until both start to trust each other, let alone enter into some kind of partnership. So it shouldn't be surprising that sexual tension and romance start very late. (I believe the first kiss takes place after about 60%). But this is where the power of Everythursday's stories lies: Both have to fight hard to overcome their differences and understand each other. It's not done with a simple sorry, both see themselves in the right in their own way.

Draco knows that what he did and that he was a victim of his circumstances but he also sees a lot of double standards in Hermione. Hermione, on the other hand, has great difficulty accepting this and seeing Draco as a person and less as what surrounded him in the past.
Like in The Fallout, Everythursday relies on a lot of heated arguments and deep philosophical discussions that bring the reader closer to the characters but also bring the characters closer to themselves.

I think Everythursday has done a wonderful job here of bringing together two people who came from completely different sides of life and are connected to one by a complicated and loaded past.
It feels very realistic and authentic, because overcoming years of prejudice and bigotry and being able to forgive takes more than just a few pages. It may be enough for many other fanfictions but not for the kind of love story Everythursday wants to tell. It's less about redemption and absolution and more about understanding and forgiveness.

As in The Fallout, intimacy is a purposefully used stylistic device here. Yes there is explicit smut but always to an appropriate degree according to how close the two are. It doesn't happen often because of the circumstances, but it's really good every time and the rest of the intimacy like holding each other at night is beautifully described.

Yes there are some weaknesses in the story. The pace could be considerably faster. Many questions remain unanswered which would irritate many readers, mostly due to the fragmented narrative style. The beginning in particular is confusing and strange, but everything gradually makes sense as the story progresses.

Hermione is an unreliable narrator. She doesn't tell us much except what is happening immediately around her, and we only really get to know Draco through the dialogue.
The ending is not really abrupt but at the same time a bit unspectacular. An epilogue or something similar would have been really nice.

So if you are looking for a classic Dramione story with instant fluff and/or smut you will be disappointed. But if you want an adventure story with a splash of romance, you will be very happy. I won't add this to my rec list because I am certain that the majority of Dramione readers won't enjoy it like Everythursday fans.

I can honestly say this is one of the best fan fiction stories I've ever read. This author has a serious talent for writing, and if I knew her, I would encourage her to make a living out of it (I hope she is already doing this!). The characters act like you expect them too, the bickering feels so real and entertaining. The action scenes don't let you put the story down until they end and even after.
This is one of those slow burn, long stories. An absolute must if you like this pairing.

Ok omg what an adventure. The banter was bantering SO GOOD wow. So creative with all the obstacles they faced, true to canon Hermione and Draco, I loved it. ONLY thing is I wish there was an epilogue, I would have loved to read about them together when they got off the islands, about Draco’s decision with the flower and Hermiones consequences at work etc. 🤷🏼‍♀️

"It's beautiful."
"Yeah."
She glanced over at him, his face turned golden. "Most people prefer sunsets, but I've always loved sunrises more. A new day, a new-- What?"
There was a small lift to the corner of his mouth, seconds away from forming into a smirk.
"You're weird, Granger."
She sniffed, crossing her arms.
"Because I like the symbolization behind sunrises?"

He huffed a laugh. "For a lot of reasons."
"Some might say you don't like sunsets because you don't like finality. The end."

"I didn't say that I didn't like sunsets."
But she was thinking about it anyway -how she felt about the endings - and maybe he had a point, depending on the situation.
That was everyone, though. That was the last cup of coffee before work, leaving school, growing up, or people you care about lying dead in the Great Hall. Good endings were few and far between, and sometimes you got strange ones.

This story was amazing. I was a bit skeptical because I read about them having actual physical altercations but those parts were more hilarious than anything. Hermione can hold her hold that’s for sure!
This is the third story I read from Sage and she did not disappoint. It was so exciting and if I wasn’t reading it on my phone i would describe it a, “a real page turner”! I’m a slower read these days because I really love to soak in what I’m reading so it took me a couple weeks to read it. It’s long but not as long at The Fallout. Their adventure of survival was written wonderfully. I’m noticing Sage likes to set them in these situations and get Draco and Hermione close that way. It’s cool I like it! Their dynamics was incredible here because they are so vulnerable and exposed. The relationship build up was just as beautiful and sexy as it was in Fallout. It’s a delicious slow burn with even a little bonus surprise from Draco. I was worried the story was going to end in a rush like Sage’s work Finders but it didn’t. It was perfect and took time to reach end.

The best dramione I’ve ever read in my life. Truly. I really am speechless. Everything was amazing about this book- the plot, the dialogues, the enemies to lovers, the slow REALLY slow burn, the inner monologues, and I LOVE DRACO IN THIS ONE.

Of all the works by this author - that are all amazing I must say- this one touched me in a way I can’t describe. It isn’t probably everyone’s cup of tea, since it’s long and in my opinion quite slow paced, but it’s really worth it a try. Everythursday makes magic with her words, and she deserves the world.

'perhaps i'd rather a home in the sun' and 'they watched floralis burn' and just them <3

got the title as I closed the file after reading the last page, felt a bit dumb.
I don't want to rate this but I was thinking about having favourites today. And I think it's like with people you love: you love all of them, but you can't really rank them. At any given moment, you would probably have more intense feelings of liking, annoyance, or even slight hatred for one more than the other. But that would keep changing with circumstances, never constant. But you love them all for their own little unique ways of being. That's Everythursday's works for me, like Arctic Monkeys' albums; all different and liked for different qualities, instances and moods, yet all loved in amounts that can't really be compared.

Onto 'Kingdom of the Sea' soon. I see a teary-eyed farewell incoming.

I reread this masterpiece last year while at work. It took me two weeks to finish because Sage was very detailed and thorough with her storytelling. And when I finally reached the end, I was still reeling from it all.

If I could describe this story in one word, it would be EPIC. Or ADVENTURE. Or "epic adventure" if you'll allow two words. I literally just sat back, eyes and jaw open, and muttered, "Oh my god wow."

The feels throughout the fic is ridiculously real. I felt tingles when Hermione and Draco had their little moments of unresolved sexual tension. I love this! Matter of fact, I might just read it again.

The slow burn was excellently built-up. Things took a really long time to start bearing any fruits and it was worth it. It felt truly rewarding when it finally happened. Reading this also made me realise how much I love treasure hunting alongside deserted on an island stories.

The plot was interesting and creative to a certain degree. The ending and the wrap-up left me a bit wanting, but my expectations were high by then. Considering the premise and the first chapter, I was mentally prepared for something heart-wrenching or at least mind-twisting. I feel like there was unrealised potential there, which could have really lifted the story to another level.

Lastly, the characters felt true and thought out, their bickering made me laugh a few times.

Having read The Fallout before this, I have high hopes and expectations for this story, and Sage/Everythursday did not disappoint. It's adventure, with a touch of romance, so I understand why new Dramione readers will be put off by this. But if slow burn is your thing and you enjoy reading adventure, then this is a good fic to read. I just wish this has been beta-read, as I found a lot of noticeable typos and grammatical errors in the version I have downloaded. But other than that, this is a great Dramione fics to read.

GOD. honestly most of the fic is buildup and world building and the smallest details but WHEN IT GETS THERE IT IS SO WORTH IT.

It is incredibly unbelievably slow in buildup though, so reader beware.

I've gotten into long reviews so here it is, even if you don't like fanfictions, parade of the Sun is a masterpiece. It's one of the most gripping, emotionally rich, and brilliantly written stories I’ve ever read, fanfiction or not.
The way Draco is written is absolutely perfect. He’s sharp, witty, bitter, reluctant, and absolutely insufferable. The way his relationship with Hermione is built is a masterclass in slow burn: tense, prickly, frustrating in all the right ways, and so incredibly satisfying when the cracks finally start to show. Which takes a looooong time.

and that's what makes this fic stand out because it’s not really a romance story. The survival storyline and the quest they both go on is what this story is. Eventually it's about two people stuck in the wilderness, forced to rely on each other, not just for practical reasons, but for survival on a deeper level. It’s about tension, grit, and gradual trust. It never feels like the author is just pushing them together. Their relationship unfolds naturally out of necessity (and painfully slowly, in the best way).

The dialogue, especially the interruptions and overlapping speech, threw me off at first, but I eventually thought it was an interesting style choice. It worked. It added a raw and real fewling to their dynamic, like you were in the middle of the fight or the banter with them.

The only thing I would have as an improvement is that I personally would have loved an epilogue. The ending is super beautiful like this, but I just kind of always want to see what happens after. I wanted that final glimpse of them in the real world, together, beyond survival. Still, that’s a personal preference more than a flaw.

This isn’t just a great Dramione fic. It’s a great story, full stop. I loved every second of it. Honestly change the names of the main characters and give it to a publisher.

A masterpiece ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I cannot possibly think of any other word that would do it justice. I’ve been a Dramione shipper since 2010 and I’ve read this fanfiction 3 times already: once when I was 16, again when I was 20, and now that I’m 25. It’s one of those books that I’ve grown so familiar with yet, when I decided to read it again, it felt like I haven’t read it at all. From the moment I got through the first chapter, I am immediately engrossed. It has that kind of grip on you that won’t let go until you get to that last chapter. The characters are so on-point, and scarily accurate and their arcs and depths are beyond anything anyone in this fandom has ever written before. The dialogues are beautifully crafted and every scene just drives you to the edge of your seat. Parade of the Sun is and will always be my favorite Dramione fanfic and I guarantee you that I’ll always come back to it.

description

Yes I'm in a Dramione pit. It happens at least once a year, and I either reread my favourites or find new gems. This year has been so fruitful, what with finding Détraquée, this, and a few others - I AM FED.

Parade of the Sun is Dramione meets Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider meets Uncharted. There is very little magic involved for 95% of the book, as they're trapped on a magical island trying to find this mythical plant while the island tries to kill them. Definitely more adventure than fantasy, and I prefer a more academic / magical setting but this was still wonderful and just so well written, from plot, to characters. It has the same disjointed feel as The Fallout, (also by the same author), which is one of my all time favourite War Fics but seems to have disappeared of the internet, so if you liked that, give this a try. Very different setting though.

Only thing I will say is get ready for a sl-o-o-o-o-w pace.

I really wanted to love this, but I can't stand behind abuse. Draco and Hermione were violent towards each other multiple times throughout the story, both verbally and physically. I get that it was a competition or whatever, but the literal fights were frankly unnecessary and toxic. Discussions, I can deal with. Working through their problems in a civilized matter, 100%. But dragging people literally through the mud, causing bodily harm on purpose because of some "competition" and verbal abuse for the sake of hurting someone, that I can't stand. I feel like there had to be a better way to deal with their differences instead of resorting to such toxic and dangerous behaviors. Hence my non-existent rating. If not for everything I've mentioned, this story would likely get a 4-star rating for the plot and character development. Otherwise no, I can't ship an abusive and toxic relationship.

Finally finished it. It was a ride. I started it a few... 8 months ago? I abandoned it several times because, to be honest, I had a hard time understanding the plot. I even had to look for spoilers to understand what was going on. Even so, as I was intrigued to know how everything was going to unfold, I kept reading the fic (very slowly).

My final thoughts:

It's an extremely glacial slow burn, so much so that I was already angry. If you like a slow burn, this fic is perfect for you.

If you like adventure fics, and being stuck in the middle of nowhere together, it's also perfect for you.

It has Lost (TV show) vibes, so if you like this kind of mystery, give it a chance.

Now, for me, everythursday Draco is what a canon Draco would be in fan fiction, that's also why I decided to keep reading, because her way of writing Draco is what anchors me to the fandom.

Hilarious and very well written.
A true enemies to lovers because the lovers parts doesn’t even start over halfway in the book and it was very credible.
Very good angst and plot.
The characters were great, almost perfectly canonical before their time together changed them.

The setting in the Sicilian islands was a bit weird because at times they were treated like some sort of tropical setting - yes Sicilian islands can be somewhat exotic, but not to the level portrayed here.

There were also some characters and situations introduced that didn’t end up meaning much for the story, so it was a bit confusing to have them there at all.

I wish we had gotten more of their time after leaving the islands, but it made sense to end it there. An epilogue would have been a nice addition, but I also like when we have open-endings.

Creative plot, beautiful writing. Draco and Hermione’s dynamic was near perfect. There were some tricky scenes with magic and changing environments, but the author walks you through at a pace that allows you to imagine the scene as it’s happening - seriously impressive.

There were some drawn out philosophical discussions that I found myself skimming through, but I appreciate the thought put into the process

Everyday I'm in awe of how brilliant of a writer everythursday is. I love LOVE slow burns especially with depth. Not only that, being in Hermione's head is such a delight. She has the most unhinged and ridiculous thoughts, its hilarious.

The plot can be a bit confusing but nevertheless I enjoyed the mindfuckery👍🏼 let's not even get started on how beautifully their relationship gets developed. Penguin wars all the wayy

Wow. A proper slow slow burner but absolutely worth it. The last 250-300 pages was pure art. Exquisitely written, some of the best dramione scenes I've ever read. Wish we got to see Draco's perspective tho, it being in Hermione's only robbed us of that.

The plot is dense, hard and twisting, but it's definitely worth it. A true epic.

This was just fine. It was tooooooooo long - it should have been at least 200 pages shorter. Because, running around on a island for that many pages became boring and I was bored most of the time I read this one. However, I did like the uniques of the story and did like the slow burn- enemies to lovers a lot. But other than that, this should have been so much shorter.

I love the premise. I love time travel aspect. ..the burn is slow and the tension is built up. There are moments where I'm just like come on and I'm.on the edge of my seat reading and the ending... it makes my heart melt thinking about it. Only a few books do that for me. So I recommend it it's not much a review. It's confusing at first but it gets so good and I laughed this makes me laugh.

Now, it did drag and was a little repetitive, but the results were worth all of it. I did get confused on and off, but that was more on me than the author. Worth it if you stick it out through the first 30%
