Rhys is an author with a bad case of writer’s block, and an even worse case of pining for his neighbor. But when he agrees to read a story she wrote, he is aghast to discover she overuses the word moist. He tells her to fix it, or he will have to spank her. It’s meant to be a joke, but is it?
Elena helps others find a happily ever after, but she hasn’t found one for herself. When her hot neighbor says he’ll spank her if she doesn’t take out the word moist, inspiration strikes. She writes a new draft with a world record number of moists.
They soon learn that sometimes the best things in life are moist, actually.
This short story was inspired by a devastatingly gorgeous photo of Chris Pine and a hilarious Twitter thread. Ash Dylan has composed a very sexy story filled with so many romance tropes and commentary that you want to laugh in between the kisses. So much fun.
Is it a cliche to say this novella is a love letter to the romance genre and its fans? I was grinning and quoting it aloud to my husband as I highlighted the hilarious and endearing romance metaphors. This sweet, sexy little book has started my weekend off beautifully, so thank you Ash Dylan!
An absolute delightful tribute to Romancelandia. The whole thing was an inside joke that I am pleased to be in on. Extremely funny and sexy and sweet. And honestly, much better than the movie Love Actually. So. Don't @ me.
I was there for the twitter posts about a delicious Chis P. photoshoot and the novella it inspired did not disappoint. Funny and oh so naughty, I will check out more from Ash Dylan.
For novellas, this was petty perfect. I only knew of this book because of a meme posted in a reading group, and this book was perfect for what the meme was suggesting. In these short pages, you get a lot. As someone who loaths the word moist this book might have changed that haha
I see one tweet with Chris Pine looking like an absolute Daddy and here I am reading a book that says the word moist 99 times (and that is 98 times too many).
OU NEED TO READ THIS NOW… and then chat with me about it!!! It’s a DELIGHT! Gah… give me anything and everything by Ash Dylan and I’ll devour it!
Am not a big rom-com reader because the com part is usually meh. This one here got me laugh out loud several times!
It’s a 50 page novelette and I highlighted 2 pages full of ridiculously accurate, seriously funny comparisons and references to Romancelandia conventions, tropes, allusions!!
The 3 quotes in this post here are just a tiny snippet of how genius this book is! > "He looked at her body like he was seeing a stepback for the first time." > "He fu**ed like a romance hero in a book that was given one star for too much sex." > "He was already addicted to her ... Like after a lifetime of reading literary fiction, he finished his first romance and knew he was never going back. Only happily ever afters from now on."
Both main characters are authors who have been secretly pining each other for months. She then gets him to agree to critic one of her drafts - which happens to be an erotic short story in which she uses the word ‘moist’ too often. Perplexed at this, he tells her to cut the word out or she’ll get a spanking. The next draft has tripple the amount of ‘moists’ in it… And so the story begins 😉
Grab ‘Moist Actually’ and I promise you’ll have a fab time 🙌😍 Then please chat about it 😀
@heaorgtfo, my dear reader friend of bonkers romance, has been low-key pushing this book and y'all, it's a freakin' meta delight of an erotic novella about a litfic author with writer's block (but really, it sounds like he writes romantic suspense without the HEA?) and an attorney who practices romance law, you know, like drafting fake dating contracts and marriage of convenience agreements because that's toally a thing. She's taking a creative writing class for funsies and asks him to edit it with some sexy consequences. I kind of love that it's set in a post-pandemic world - when he stops by her apartment to give her his notes personally, they're both masked; it's 49 pages and in KU.
This was such a fun little read. The sense of humour is great – it’s very funny without detracting from the fact it is a romance. The chemistry is good, the sex scenes are hot and well-written, and the relationship between the two main characters was quite endearing. The jokes within it are perfectly placed.
It’s a quick read but one that sparkles with humour; it takes gentle swipe at romance novels with its puns and references to tropes, etc., whilst managing also to feel like it was celebrating this aspect of romance. It’s cute and entertaining and it passed a fun half-hour.
First- this was genuinely extremely funny. Second- It's a remarkable feat to create two characters that are fleshed out well enough to make us care for them and want them to be together in under 50 pages, and Ash Dylan has accomplished that with Moist Actually. Add that to the first point, the well-written comedic aspects, and this is incredibly artfully done. I really feel that this is a must read for pretty much every romance reader.
What a fun novella! Both funny and hot, this was a quick, light read. I giggled my way through all the references to romance tropes and discourse, starting with “not like other lit fic authors,” and loved finding little Easter eggs throughout. Follow Ash on Twitter (if that platform survive…) and read this book!
OMG so this book started as one part of a funny twitter thread of book concepts paired with pictures of Chris Pine and I'm so glad this one turned into an actual book because it's hilarious and hot and very cute and the groans from my husband as I quoted various moist puns from the book was the cherry on top
Ash Dylan is one of my favourite people I follow on Twitter, so when I saw this new release I knew I had to pick it up.
Just as I expected, this was equal parts steamy and hilarious, with a ton of references to the romance genre, which I loved. Overall a great way to spend an hour!
Quick read and great fun, with plenty of writing-related puns. The characters are well drawn for the length, and they're both cool, likable people. The sex scenes are hot and immersive, the intimacy skillfully laced with banter. Sweet and spicy HEA, dripping with moisture. :-)
I’m here because of the Chris Pine photo thread on twitter. Ash did the thing and didn’t make me cringe at all! Read the book, read the twitter thread. Do the things!
Loved the steam and loved the hero’s insane and unexpected filthiness because there’s nothing better than a man who is a little bit awkward and down horrendously bad over the heroine. 😏 So lovably pathetic. 🤭
A proper neighbors to lovers X romance writer SLASH romance editor romance!
