"Cooperstown Corner" by Lee Allen is a selection of columns he wrote for the Sporting News from 1962 until his death in 1969. Allen, who was the historian for the Hall of Fame, would write about baseball players and events from the early days of baseball, especially old players he talked to at Cooperstown or on his many travels around the country. I am a baseball history buff and I never heard of a number of the 19th century players he discussed, but I still found it quite interesting. He covered the first part of the 20th century too. The essays are short and full of interesting information. I recommend this book to those who are interested in baseball in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. It is a fun read.
"Lee Allen published "Cooperstown Corners: Sporting News Stories" shortly before his death in 1969. The book is an excellent compilation of his research into the great moments and personalities of baseball lore. Lee is considered the pioneer of baseball statistics and sabermetrics. His primary research is full of insight and surprises. It is written for baseball fans that intensely love the game.
