Carmella is also a Producer and Co-Host of Bush and Banter, an outdoor adventure podcast where she and Thru-Hiker Jennifer Mabus interview adventurers from around the world.
I randomly (or not so random at all) found this book in one of those little free library book boxes on a pleasant stroll through downtown Chelsea, MI on a Saturday morning with friends. I’ve been putting a lot of thought into eventually doing a thru hike, particularly the PCT. So, this book landed in my lap at the right time. I was hanging on every step of Dyana’s journey and I am now thoroughly inspired to set off on my own whimsical adventure of human connection and raw determination. Thank you for all the laughs, tears and cheers, Dyana! Be sure to check out all of the pics on her website listed in the back of the book!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. After laughing out loud reading the preface, I thought that even if I didn't like the book, the preface alone was worth the price of it. My son and his wife hiked the PNT in the summer of 2023. They actually got married on the trail. So this whole book was very familiar to me. I, of course, followed their hike very closely. So much of what is written in this book mirrors their experiences. Especially the parts about connecting with other fellow hikers. Her writing is descriptive, and it really puts you where she is on the trail and in her head.
Dyana brings readers along on a beautiful journey through the PNW and through her own self discovery. Leaving behind an unfulfilling existence in show biz in Los Angeles, she returns to the nature of human roots and her own childhood to search for meaning and purpose. A relatable story for so many of us that seek ourselves on the trail. And a sometimes funny, sometimes heartfelt, and sometimes poetic invitation to head out on one of the lesser well-known trails in this beautiful land.
Beautiful storytelling! This book is a lovely recollection of the people and places that guided Dyana’s journey of self discovery along the PNT. She accurately depicts the heartache of thru-hiking and has you hanging on every word along the way. Give it a read, you won’t regret it.
One of the best books I’ve read for the longest time. Writing style EXQUISITE! I was captivated, mesmerised and enchanted. It has me longing to find the wild adventurer woman hidden within me. 10billion/10!
This book was an exciting memoir about a young women’s journey across the Pacific Northwest Trail. Being an avid camper living in the PNW, it was such a beautiful story to read and see how others view the natural beauty all around this area.
This book was full of intriguing stories, deeply explored characters, deep inner narration and all the glorious emotions that thru-hikers experience were explored and portrayed beautifully. Would read this book again and again.
I loved this book. Couldn’t put it down. Her descriptions and anecdotes were just so much fun. As a person who loves national parks, I just really enjoyed this.
