Marcia Lynn McClure

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ice in wonder at the small fish, snakes and mice sealed in the meadow grasses beneath; stories of hardship and tragedy, love and loss. But always the stories, and the people telling them, bore evidence of the wonder and worthiness of simpler, yet sometimes brutal, times.

These influential people and the family legends they detailed, coupled with her own life experiences and utterly romantic nature, led Marcia to begin writing novels as Christmas gifts for her closest friends…friends who long for a breath of the past and miss the romance of bygone eras; friends searching for moments of distraction from the stressful, demanding times we live in.

And so, knowing that it is the breath of the past and the "take me in you arms and kiss me" kind of moments that so many women long to relive, Marcia spins her tales of love, life and laughter…adventures woven around those compelling, romantic instances that most appeal to a woman's loving heart. Marcia feels that if her readers close one of her books with a contented sigh and a delighted smile, feeling rejuvenated, cheerful and edified, then she has achieved what she set out to do…shower refreshment and happiness on anyone having experienced the story.

Marcia lives in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. There she writes her stories surrounded by her beloved friends and family...and the beautiful desert landscape of New Mexico!

I’ve been in a reading slump lately and thought I’d turn to an old favorite to help me out. This is a charming little story. I appreciate that Ms. McClure always writes lighthearted, happy books. She writes about good, moral, happy people. I feel like I can relate easily to her characters because they just seem so normal. Sure, there is sometimes some mild drama, but the characters are just the kind of people you’d want in your life.
So, our heroine Tierney really learns some great life lessons in this book. One of the main ones that stood out to me is trusting yourself. The book starts at her bachelorette party. She is engaged to someone she does not want to marry. She has felt off about it, but is too scared to call things off. I wonder how many girls have been in that position. End up marrying someone they will never be happy with because they were too scared to truly listen to their instincts? It’s kind of a recurring theme in the story, these “red flags” we get in certain situations, warning signs that we all should listen to more closely. I’ve always been a big believer in listening to your gut and I appreciated Marcia making such a point of it in this story. It made me want to share this story with teenage girls, so they can hopefully take the advice in the book and hopefully avoid any bad situations. Oh, and also give them an idea of what a real man is like. This brings me to another thing I love about Marcia’s books, her heroes. I just love them and I especially loved Rome, our hero in this book. He has quickly become a McClure favorite. I also liked Tierney for holding her own with Rome, she swooned a little (I mean, who wouldn’t?), but she would banter and tease with him. I also liked that she kissed him a few times, he wasn’t always the one initiated things. I liked that. Tierney and Rome have a great love story. I loved that it took place over a longer period of time, and of course that their courtship included so many fun holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course Christmas). I loved the Novak’s holiday parties, my in-laws do the same thing so it brought back fun memories for me. They have some great moments together and by the end there is no doubt in your mind that they will live happily ever after.
Overall, it was a great read. I’ll admit, I had a goofy grin for the majority of the story and the nerd in me will even admit . Honestly, if you have not read any McClure books, you are so missing out. They are heartwarming and fun, all about the romance and falling in love. I’ll get off my gush-box now and just say GO READ IT!

Oh boy howdy! Another fabulous book written by an amazing author. I loved this book from beginning to end, and it is up there in my top favorites! Amazing characters that you just felt were like your best friends. Rome Novak was as delicious as a Rome apple!
Rome and Tierney had such a great chemistry and friendship which I love and feel is so important. Very well written and I loved all of the holiday fun throughout the book. The songs and movies were all ones that I love and made the story even more wonderful.
This is a must read. And I gotta say, there is a really mean review on this book, that bothered me. I think that Tierney is a very strong character and one that girls can look up to. She did what she knew was right in her heart and made the decision she needed to. As for the "gushing" over Rome? Hello! Who wouldn't?! I love that Marcia captures the feeling of those butterflies you get when you are in love and the silly giddyness of joy in finding "the one"! So please if you are on the fence, you will not regret reading this book, it is romantic and fun and everything we love and can count on in a MLM book! Thanks Marcia for a romantic, fun read! And I will take One Classic Latin Lover PLEASE! ;)
Oh and the bonus book at the end was a great surprise! Thanks Marcia!

Tierney seems to be looking for an excuse to call off her wedding and when her brother's friend surprises her, she does just that.

Of course I loved it!!! I loved the relationship that Tierney had with her brother, Alec and the relationship that Rome had with his sister, Celeste. And I loved the flirty banter between Rome and Tierney.

Content: some language and some kissing.

I'm sure my reviews are completely biased when it comes to Marcia Lynn McClure. I absolute adore her and everything she has written. Her books are pure guilty pleasure reads for me. I love the kissing and swooning and old fashioned values the permeate all her books. When I read I see Marcia and get to know her better through her books as she pours a part of herself in to each and every one of them.

Again my only complaint with this one was that it ended too soon. I can never get enough of Marcia's characters and storylines.

If you have not read Marcia before I don't recommend starting with this one. Start with Visions of Ransom Lake, A Crismon Frost, Shackles of Honor or The Heavenly Surrender. Or if you prefer contemporary try Kissing Cousins or An Old Fashioned Romance.

Marcia has captured the swoony feeling of young love which when combined with the playful back and forth bantering of the characters makes for a delightful read. A great holiday read but could easily be enjoyed any time of the year.

The eBook also came with The Chimney Sweep Charm. I was pleasantly surprised to get "two books for the price of one!" Both were delightful!

October 14:
After rereading this book half a dozen times, I still love it. I love Rome and Tierney as a couple. I also loved Rome's sister Celeste and the funny things she would say. For those wondering what One Classic Latin Lover Please is about: it's about a girl underneath her mom's social thumb, about to marry the wrong guy to please her parents, until her brother sends his best friend with a message for Tierney, and gives her the courage to change her life. Naturally, there's some great kissing, flirting, and humor involved. And of course, a happily ever after.

Content: some language (5-10 words), most mild
Kissing, lots of kissing

Dec 2018: Still love a good Marcia fix! Such a cute romantic read! Can I get a Latin Lover too, please?! 😍

Pure. Guilty. Pleasure. Wow! This book was so good! I loved Tierney, her love of 50s movies, her fantasies, all of it! This book got me scouring my TV guide for Ricardo Montalban movies! *sigh* Rome was just dreamy and Latin so.... Yeah! And Marcia's legendary kissing scenes! I just loved it. Was there much substance? Not really. It's pure fluff. But it made me smile, it made me laugh, and it made me sigh. So this was a win for me.
P.S The family scene with Tierney, Alec, and their dad was so heartwarming! Cherry on top!

I was in the mood for a light-hearted romance today and I certainly found one in this book. I read it in one day and unabashedly giggled, blushed, and sighed the whole time I was reading it. This author's books have that affect on me. I love them. They are pure entertainment and a wonderful escape.

Tierney O'Brien led a privileged life but deep down she was unhappy. Her parents socialized in elite circles but were not very affectionate towards Tierney and her brother. She became engaged to a wealthy man named Dillon, who, according to her ambitious and controlling mother, was from "the right sort of family" and would make Tierney a suitable husband. However, Tierney was not thrilled at the prospect of spending her entire life with the man she would wed in a week's time. Her brother Alec, who'd left home to make a life for himself, tried to dissuade her from making a commitment which would render her unhappy. Knowing his sister's fondness for old, classic romantic films and a soft spot for Latin actors, on the day of her bridal shower, he sent her an unusual gift - a real life "Classic Latin Lover". Not a stripper, but a tuxedo clad, hot looking Latino man, with a message from Alec - to "run" and break free from her unfulfilling life.

Tierney took her brother's advice and left her family home and her superficial friends to join her brother in Leavenworth, Washington. Nervous and excited, she would live with her brother whilst she worked in a local florist shop. She never forgot the gorgeous "Latin Lover" her brother sent her months earlier and was thrilled to find him living in the same town and indeed, a very close friend of Alec's. Rome Novak (the "Latin Lover") was so hot and loveable. I enjoyed Rome and Tierney's constant flirting and their swoon worthy kisses.

Rome had a very special relationship with his sister and his parents. They were a close knit, loving family who showed genuine concern and affection towards each other and their good friends. A stark contrast to Tierney's and Alec's parents and their social circle.

This book was fun to read. There was no foul language or intimate scenes. It was a good blend of sweet romance and humour. I'll be having pleasant dreams tonight.

I really enjoyed this book again. Seriously yummy. I love the author's notes about Milli Vanilli, I loved them too. What is interesting is that it happens all the time now. I also connected this Latin lover not only to Ricardo Montalban (or Antonio Banderas), who I loved in Fantasy Island. I love the whole snow plow love stories too. I think I appreciate more and more about the stories the more I read them.

Other years
I can't wait till my book get here to read this!!!!! So Excited! Finally! Yes, I've started it and totally hooked already!
Gripping from the start! Can I just say I LOVE MARCIA! I just fall in love all over again each time I read one of her books. This one is delicious, DELICIOUS!! Yes, I skipped over a word a couple of times, which doesn't happen very often with her books. Once or twice though I wanted to say it myself. I like the beating of the bad guy that was the best if not for my own personal past thing. Overall excellent you do not disappoint. I LOVE THE CHIMNEY SWEEP AFTER! It's one I have been wanting to get.
I had to add that the references were awesome! I knew every one of them! I was so excited to read about the things I had seen and loved all my life.
This book was perfect with the hot chocolate that came with it. LOVE IT!

One of those books you say words like "run" and "YEs" plus awe and yummy! I just love these feel-good love stories.

I have an insane love for Marcia McClure's books (like, the day I discovered Visions of Ransom Lake was one of the best days of my life because it introduced me to this treasure trove of Marcia romances) so I hate giving one of them three stars. However, her contemporary romances just aren't for me. I mean, this is the woman that brought us Crimson Frost, Shackles of Honor, and the Highwayman of Tanglewood! Those are swoony, sweet romance at its absolute very best. The cheese works in the historical settings, but it never translates well to contemporary times for me.

I will forever love Marcia's books and happily read anything she writes, but I'm hoping for more historical novels and less modern-day cheese.

I think I have read all McCLures books now!!! Unless I run into more surprises!Loved it!!!A couple light cuss words, but I guess I loved the story too much to care!!

Once again Marcia Lynn McClure has written a "dessert book." There is a short list of authors I can go to when I need a light book to make me laugh and feel good. Marcia is on that list. This book was cute and sweet with fun characters. The romance was nice with just the right "steamy" level. I love it that I've found an author who knows how to keep a book clean yet romantic! The Author's note at the end was very interesting. Once again I'm glad I read this one. Totally worth buying the ebook!

Ummm, YUM! Sweet, fun, lots of knee-weakening kisses, and a great cast of well developed characters, most of whom you will adore! Also love the epilogue, and Marcia's personal words at the end of the book, about listening to our red flags, since there is one creep in the book(don't worry, not either of the two leading men).

Hmmm, I don't know what to do about this one. It wasn't as clean as her other ones. I enjoyed majority of the story line, and the characters, but there was too much un-cleanish content for me to really enjoy it.

Moral Note: Language - More than a few of each - hecks, dangs, son of a motherless goats, cut off "s" word. Talk of strippers, attempted rape, mild talk of groping. Some very passionate kisses, one on a bed, and one in a hot tub.

I just never regret reading a McClure book. This one was cute and a little "steamy" at parts. I thought the storyline was fun and I liked the fact that it turned out so well for EVERYONE in the end. This wasn't one of my favorite favorite McClure books, because I just like a little more tention. But, this was still a good read and I truly enjoyed the distraction. Thank you, Kath! What ever would I do with out you?

If you love a good romance with plenty of kissing and sizzle, Marcia McClure is your woman. This book had all that and more. It was a super pleasure read for me and I really enjoyed it. Sometimes in books we have to wait forever for that one perfect toe curling kiss. I love when a book starts out that way within the first chapter and keeps going from there. ;) This was one fun book.

This book had some mild swearing.

Oh my gosh!! This book makes me want my brother to deliver my very own Latin lover to me! I couldn't get enough of this book. It was full of endless humor, constant teasing, and everlasting romance! I enjoyed this book so much! It made me smile the whole time! I even look at snow plow trucks differently now! Hahaha!! Thanks Marcia for another great romantic getaway inside a wonderful story!

I debated about the rating of this book, but finally settled on four stars.

The computer generated narration isn’t wonderful, but okay if you know the story. There’s a lot of misreading of punctuation making the meaning hard to grasp.

This is the first Marcia McClure book I’ve listened to that had a content warning at the beginning so I paid closer attention and realized it was needed.

As I said, rating was harder for me because of that, but I do enjoy the story and it’s one I read every so often, thus four stars instead of three.

Dude! I so liked this book! It's almost embarrassing how much I liked it. I say that because the book is totally YA and I'm a mature woman in my 30's--OK my 40's dammit! LOL The characters giggle a lot--I mean even the hero, Rome's, mother giggles for crissake! Then Rome and Alec--the heroine's beloved older brother--constantly call each other dude, bro, and use other stereotypical "California Speak" even though they live in a small town in Washington State. Nevertheless, despite all the juvenile speak, I really liked the book. To be honest, I don't read a lot of contemporary romance books nowadays; I'm more into historical novels. But every once in a while the mood strikes and I find myself perusing the contemporary romance section on Amazon. Actually, this particular book popped up during a freebie search in the historical romance section--I don't know what was up with that. Anyhow, I'm a big fan of Ms. McClure's historical westerns, so when I saw that she was the author of this book, I figured I'd give it a try. Wow! I'm so glad I did.

Does the book have issues? Yes it does! For one thing, it could do with some editing. There's the usual grammatical errors that seem to be typical with most e-books nowadays--missing words here and there, incorrect word used here and there, and the like. One of the bigger mistakes I found was that in one part of the book one character's eyes were described as being green, then later, when we finally meet her, we're told they are such a dark brown as to be almost black.

The story is super clean. There are kissing scenes which are more in line with teenagers having a heavy make-out session. Rome and Alec are both portrayed as "gentlemen" and I'm pretty sure--although it's never specifically stated--that both the heroine, Tierny, as well as Rome's little sister, Celeste, are virgins. Pretty amazing that! TWO virgins within the same vicinity in the 21st Century. As a matter of fact, for all I know Alec and Rome are both virgins too. LOL

Anyhow, Rome and Tierney meet when Alec asks Rome to crash Tierney's bridal shower in an attempt to persuade her not to marry her fiance. Alec firmly believes that Tierney is making a mistake and is only marrying the man because of pressure from their overbearing, socially conscious mother. Tierney breaks off her engagement, but she and Rome don't meet again until Alec gets her to move to Washington where he lives. From the point of their second meeting the story that unfolds is one about the regular everyday development of not only Rome and Tierney's relationship, but also Alec and Celeste's. Although we're never told, it seemed as though all the characters were of ages somewhere in their twenties, although to be honest, they acted more like teenagers. Sigh Rome and Celeste are both of Latin descent and described as other worldly beautiful--picture Selma Hayek and Antonio Sabato Jr. (at least that's how I pictured them. LOL) Anyhow, other than the developing romance between the couples (Rome and Tierney being the focus) there really isn't anything else going one in the story--there is one aspect dealing with Tierney's boss' creepy husband, but that's minor. There's no intrigue, mystery, suspense, misunderstandings between the couple, or anything else of that nature. The story that unfolds is sweet and uncomplicated.

So bottom line, I really liked this book. Parts of the story are a little corny, while other parts seem downright juvenile, but if you enjoy reading YA novels, or if you are in the mood for something that is light, fluffy, innocent, and sweet, you may very well enjoy this book. Happy reading!

I really hate giving bad reviews (especially around the holidays) because I know how much heart & soul (not to mention blood, sweat, and tears) goes into writing a book and presenting it to the world. So...I'll try to be gentle with this, while still being honest.

I've been an MLM fan for years but, lately, it seems like her writing has really gone down hill. The repetition and ridiculous (and constant) gushing of the heroine in this book really turned me off. Every two pages, it seemed, we were once again told the story about Rome at the bridal shower which was completely unnecessary. Why did it have to constantly be brought back up? It was really annoying. I hate when authors treat me like an idiot and can't remember something that's happened three chapters ago and continue to remind me about it over and over again. Also, the constant references to Latin lovers was a bit over the top. I understand that was Teirney's "thing" but it was way too much. And speaking of Teirney--here we go again with another really young, and immature heroine who, in my opinion, doesn't really deserve the hero she gets. Why do these guys put up with these ridiculous girls??

PLEASE, MLM! Write a heroine who isn't still in her teens!! Someone who's had some life experiences and can really be a good match for the incredible heroes you create!

I think this will be the last book I read of hers. I'm puzzled how a good author gets worse instead of better the more they write. More swearing and worse than the last one - disappointing! It's frustrating to try to read a book with duel descriptions per page of a character or the scenery, mostly about the hero. I found myself rolling my eyes, both mentally and physically, because how many times are you going to describe him exactly the same. I got it the first time! And how many times are you going to describe the heroine's wish? Again, I got it the first time. It's almost like she ran out of words and to get a full-length novel so she can charge more, she just repeated herself over and over, and over again.

ok, I have been a fan of the earlier works, but latley Marcia's books have been a little annoying. This book seemed undeveloped, incomplete, and very juvenile. I swear everytime I had to read AGAIN about the dumb guy stepping out of the stupid box I would cringe and groan. What I thought was a cute part of the story quickly turned into a part that I wished had never happend at all because of the many times I had to hear about it. It was unnecessary. It felt like scenes were randomly thrown in and there was no real 'story' there... I knida felt like this was a 'hurry up and write about alot of kissing and a handsome man so I can sell another book' kind of thing... Not a fan of this one!

Dead brain cell rating.
I debated about whether or not to list that I've read this book. I usually find romance novels unrealistic and not very well written. It's a simple, predictable chick-flick book. That said, it was fun. Predictable? Yes. Unrealistic? Yes. Fun? Yes. A clean romance? Absolutely!

Several months after my initial review I came back and revised my rating from four to five stars. I still agree with everything I wrote above. But this book was just fun, and I have thought on it again and again with pleasure. Hence, it really deserves five stars because it makes me smile even months later!

Read this book on an airplane to kill time, best flight ever! I had only 12 pages left when I had to power down my Kindle- that was the only bummer to reading this! :)
I adored this book, but then again, not a shocker there at all! Would give all Marcia's books 11 stars if I could! ;) Marcia's books always make me laugh, smile, swoon, and desperately wish to be in the story! Kind of fun to laugh out loud on an airplane too, hehe.
Loved Rome's family, reminded me so much of my own! I loved the brother sister relationships, they were just as sibling relationships should be! :)

To be honest the name didn't catch me at first because my husband is definitely not Latin (Swedish) and I seem to picture him often as I read your books but I was quickly into the book and absolutely loved it!Yes my husband could fit the profile of a Latin lover! :) Thanks again Marcia for another great romance!

Loved this read as much as I do MLM's other romances. I'm someone who usually prefers her historical over contemporary, but this was so much fun with the 80s references, including Milli Vanilli and the ever famous NCMOS! LOL I loved One Classic Latin Lover, Please, and will definitely read it again sometime!

This was not my favorite MLM. It seemed pretty slow, most of it focusing on the main characters inability to trust. An ok read, but not one I have to own. BUT, it did come with "The Chimney Sweep Charm" as a bonus book. I really enjoyed that one!

I liked the characters in this book.I thought it was fun to read. The book was upbeat and entertaining. The kids bond with their father once again since they left their parents. I liked the romance between the brothers and sisters of both friends.
