Rate this book
Designed to provide you with the knowledge needed to protect computers and networks from increasingly sophisticated attacks, SECURITY AWARENESS: APPLYING PRACTICAL SECURITY IN YOUR WORLD, 4E, International Edition continues to present the same straightforward, practical information that has made previous editions so popular. For most computer users, practical computer security poses some daunting challenges: What type of attacks will antivirus software prevent? How do I set up a firewall? How can I test my computer to be sure that attackers cannot reach it through the Internet? When and how should I install Windows patches? This text is designed to help you understand the answers to these questions through a series of real-life user experiences. In addition, hands-on projects and case projects give you the opportunity to test your knowledge and apply what you have learned.

I'm just gonna go ahead and direct you to another review I read, which was accurate: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Actually, there's the link for credit. Here's the full thing quoted:

For a textbook, it's a fairly decent read. There was an attempt to make it interesting, and the writing wasn't pretentious and painful to read.
Plus, it was a fairly informative text with a good introduction to basic security principals. So yay for that.
Go textbook.

I read this for school and had to go through it faster than I would have liked. I hope to get a chance to go back through it and do some of the exercises.

This book gives a good introduction to online security and data protection. The section on cryptography was a little confusing (in the “how” sense but not the basic concept). It could use some updating with respect to cloud computing. Otherwise, I felt I learned a lot.

A good 100-level introduction to cybersecurity concepts, from personal security to network security to privacy issues.
