Smut-A-Thon: Author of Color & Second Chance Romance
I didn't hate this one guys.
I thought I would but I didn't. I mean its not a great book but it was entertaining. The sex scenes were hot and only slightly cringy.
A Passion For Him is about Amelia who years ago lost the love of her life and is still suffering. Though she is engaged to another man upon meeting a mystery man at costume party feels drawn to him.
Like almost all romance novels this one was highly predictable but that's part of its charm. Who our heroine ends up with is never in doubt and I think we all know who the mystery man turns out to be.
If you love Historical Romance with a side of Hot Sex then consider picking this book up.

Stay away from this book if you don't like heroes who keep pushing the heroine away and sleeping with other women while supposedly pining after her. His reasons for both = love for the heroine and the fact that he thinks he doesn't deserve her.
Its a similar premise to Kleypas' novel - gypsy hero who is beneath the heroine, socially and is secretly uberly in love with her. And surprisingly, the heroines were scarily similar in that they were both so protected and sheltered by everybody and wanted to be free of that.
I love Sylvia Day's writing but the hero does not endear me in any way. Sure he 'sacrificed' his life to become richer and be the man he thinks the heroine would want, but in turn, he pretended for years that he was dead leaving everyone who cared about him to grieve horribly. And have I mentioned that he actually reasoned his lust for other women (and his use of them) as a way to gain expertise to satisfy the heroine? Puh-leeze, man up and speak the truth.
I think why I find these type of novels so irritating and throw-to-the-wall worthy is that there is no real power balance between the hero and heroine. The women are always so chaste and suppressed. I don't like the idea that if the hero were to die (for real) she would just stop living. In fact, she did stop living when she believed he was dead and I understand that some would think this so romantic and that it would symbolize how greatly she loved. On the other hand, I think a love like that is too destructive; its not positive. I would much rather prefer that the heroine appreciated that life she had, and be changed by it, but not so until she cannot live at all.
Or maybe, the hero in this story was just not worth mourning for a whole lifetime... his rival was a whole lot sexier in my mind.

A second-chance romance with a “return from the dead” and “secret identity” tropes. The murder/spy subplot was confusing and a bit convoluted for a short book. Furthermore, a few chapters were flashbacks with no indication to the listener. I checked the ebook (available on Kindle Unlimited) and those excerpts are in italics so the reader is aware of the flashback.
The two sex scenes we got were pretty spicy. Could have used more of those scenes though. Oh, and there was one sex scene with a secondary male character (the heroine’s almost-fiancé) and his mistress.
FYI, The main couple were separated for years and during that time, the hero was not celibate. The heroine brings this up and isn’t happy about it.

Estuvo bien, pero todo me pareció un sin sentido, sobre todo el personaje de ella.
Si algo no soporto es que, dentro de lo que cabe, la historia no fluya con naturalidad y Amelia está fuera en todos los sentidos. Su comportamiento es totalmente moderno y, lo peor, es que la gente de su alrededor se queda tan pancha ante sus "locuras"
Paso por que una protagonista sea "moderna" pero lo que no es normal es que en el libro no se haga constar que "eso no es lo normal".
Al personaje de Ware sigo sin entenderlo.
Que conste que la trama no es mala, simplemente la autora no supo aprovecharla. Lia y lía y lía para que luego se resuelva todo en apenas 15 hojas. No, eso no me convence.
Libro erótico? Pues no,no creo. Es más la etiqueta de la autora porque no tiene muchas escenas hot, la verdad. He leído otros de regencia que tienen más.

Definitivamente o melhor do quarteto. Os dois primeiros foram uma desilusão, estava com imensa expectativa para o segundo, mas...
Demasiadas cenas de sexo e pouca história.
Neste terceiro, Sylvia Day dá mais destaque para a história, para o desenvolvimento das personagens mas com um bocadinho de 🌶 à mistura mas não como ponto principal.

The beginning of the book was exciting even though I didn't like the introduction to this love triangle that was made in book #2. However, as the hero's true identity is now unknown to the heroine, I became interested in the development of the story.
In fact, I don't know if I should call it a love triangle because the heroine doesn't love the other suitor, he's kind of in her friendzone, he wants to marry her, although he doesn't want to be faithful to her if she doesn't satisfy his voracious sexual appetite in the marriage bed. The first sex scene in the book is of him with his mistress (not very detailed, of course)...
The hero lacked the courage to reveal himself but he didn't lack patience to put up with Amelia 😮💨. He didn't want to put her in danger as his life was at risk but the whole omission of identity was actually due to differences between classes. I didn't quite understand if the hero managed to avenge and leverage his social position or if he was a mere agent of Quinn's with the money to support Amelia. He's insanely rich now, that's all that matters, I guess..
In this book there are at least 3 excerpts from the previous book, if they are not excerpts they are almost (eg: the epilogue of the previous book appears in this book as a memory of the past?), I found this annoying, ok that the events are the same but I didn't think that were missed in the previous book. Curiously I spoke of the redundancy of Amelia's love triangle in my last review.
I liked the childhood friends trope, I think it's sweet when 2 childhood friends fall in love (ONLY IN BOOKS I must say..). I liked the story too, so I'm being generous here.
Finally, I should warn you that you have to be in the right mood for this book and it's not even worth thinking about sliding some parts if you're bored..the abrupt change of scenes between present, past, pov of characters and dreams, it's easy to lose the story!
Note: So far despite the MCs appearing in prior books, I think all can be standalones.

I've developed a passion for this "Georgian" series! This story had a nice blend of intrigue and love!
This is the 3rd book in this series but are written so they can be read as standalones.
Loved the story of this couple! Amelia was sheltered and taken away from her sister, used as a pawn so her father can manipulate her older sister to doing his bidding...mainly for money. As her older sister dedicates her life to look for her, Amelia has been moved around and "protected" all her life. Nothing and no one is constant...except for the stable boy who becomes her best friend...her only friend. They love each other as only two who's been there for each other since childhood can. As they get older, Colin knows his love for Amelia is impossible. He's her servant and she's the daughter of a titled Lord.
One fateful night, he risks his life to save her from abduction and is shot in the process. He was left for dead. Amelia, though rescued because of Colin, and reunited with her sister, mourns the loss of Colin - her one true love. It's a love that spans years and one that she's never been able to find again.
Well Colin was shot but not quite dead. He defies his lowly station in life and becomes someone else, someone more, someone who is worthy of Amelia. Someone who can provide for her and give her what she deserves and can readily have with someone else.
After years of obtaining wealth and a new identity, he seeks her out during a masquerade ball. She's instantly aware and drawn to the mask man. Her allure to the mystery stranger is undeniable and unexplainable. Her pursuit of Colin is rash but passionate. She puts aside a life of comfort and wealth for the stranger that has managed to make her feel passion for the first time since Colin.
Oh how I waited anxiously for the reveal to happen! He loves her and she has always loved him! I just kept trying to read quickly so I can get to the reunion! It didn't quite go as beautifully as I wanted. She was more mad than joyful...at first! She feels as if she suffered those many years missing and pining for him thinking he was gone forever. His reasons took some convincing. And the convincing was sweet. It pulled some butterflies even.
Sorry that this review is a bit elementary. I don't usually go into so much plot detail but the plot was the draw of this book. I love the lost love but found love story! Colin and Amelia's chemistry was tangible and sweet and hot!
I couldn't read this book fast enough then was a bit sad when it was done. On to the next one though!

Believing her first and only love dead, she's set to marry an Earl she's been friends with for years.. Then a masked gentleman persues her at a ball and she can't forget him.And she becomes the pursuer. When he reveals he is the love she thought dead after a passionate night of making love. she's devastated that he would of let her hurt all these years thinking him dead. It doesn't matter that he told her she would have been in grave danger by being associated with him. And that he had to build up his fortune so that they could be together at last. She's not having any of it, she tells him they are done.Lots of passion and raw sex,it made for a great read. Read how the outcome turns out. Will she choose the Earl or him ? Sylvia Day writes with as much passion that fills her pages. Love her writing.

Rating: 2 stars - OK
Had a really hard time connecting with the characters in A Passion For Him. I felt the plot was all over the place. I did not like how the first sex scene was about to take place but then ends and starts something else in the plot with other characters. Then it gets back to the sex scene. I do love good steamy scenes but the first one did drag on.
The characters were all over the place. Ware who is Amelia fiancé makes it very clear he does not want her interacting with Colin because it looks bad since they are to be wed and she needs to decide if she is going to be his wife then she needs to act like his fiancé and not pursue Colin but all the while Ware is sleeping with someone else. Colin one minute his character is flat, and kind of cheesy but the next he a sexy dominate hero with a dirty talking mouth.
I really wanted to like A Passion For Him. Love the idea of lost love. The synopsis grabbed my interest and even though it is the 3rd in the Georgian series I was not lost at all. Sylvia Day does a great job at letting the readers know what happened before but unfortunately it did not hold my interest enough and have no desire to read the pervious novels. I have yet to read The Crossfire series and heard great things about this series. I do look forward to trying that series out.

I love Sylvia's historical romance stories! This one is no exception. A Passion For Him is full of drama and so intense! The storyline is addictive and realistic to the time period! Love love loved it! And a tip for you while reading- have a spare pair of undies ladies! Count Montoya is hot hot hot

2013 was the year when I read Sylvia Day's books the most. They just fit me at that time. And here I am in 2021, and I'm quite enjoying them once again.
Seven and a half years is plenty of time to forget the contents of a book, even the ones I liked. The Georgian series is no exception. However, there were some details or impressions I remembered from each book, except for one. This one. A Passion for Him. More like, A Passion for whom? That is why I started my Georgian re-read with this story.
It turned out I had my Georgians mixed up. I had placed these main characters in book four. No matter, I quickly realized my mistake, I caught up and enjoyed the story, and I could say I enjoyed it more this time around.
Amelia and Colin had been childhood sweethearts, but there had been a rift between them because of their standing in the society. Then, caused by her father's less than stellar character, Amelia had been put in danger, and Colin had helped rescue her at the expense of his own life. Or so Amelia thought.
Years later Colin, having made means enough to provide Amelia with the life she deserved, was back in Amelia's life. Not as himself, though, but an attractive stranger under a mask, and became the first man to pique Amelia's interest since Colin.
Of course, besides starring in quite a few erotic scenes Sylvia Day style, they had to overcome some hurdles. But they got their HEA, of course.
I'm sorry I have no more to write about the book. My mind is elsewhere. The point is, although I used to think Day's books were no longer my thing, that the chances were very low I'd ever like them like I did in 2013, I am now enjoying rereading them, so now I will continue my reread.

I really did not enjoy this book. I couldn’t stand the fact that Colin doesn’t just tell Amelia who he is and plays the game of “come to me, I must let you go” and he sleeps with other women while he is supposedly so in love with Amelia. Colin did nothing for me and I really couldn’t care less if he had stayed away from Amelia. In fact I like Ware much better than Colin.
Amelia is just too much of a contradiction in how she is written. She is supposedly so chaste and innocent and protected but at times she is exactly opposite. She has mourned Colin for so many years and feels that she should marry Ware because they are such good friends and yet she goes and sleeps with Colin before she even knows who he really is.
I think people will either like or dislike this book. Unfortunately I am in the dislike catagory.

This book was a delightful surprise. I love historical romance but lately all the books I came across were predictable. This was frustrating but A Passion For Him got me out of this slump. The lead pair was great and perfectly matched. Amelia was sweet and determined, Montoya was stubborn and resourceful. Amelia escaped from captivity but lost someone precious in the process. She is certain she will never love again till she runs into Montoya. This makes Amelia hope again but things are rarely that simple. Amelia discovers love and deception in the same place - Will she walk away or is his love enough to make her stay?
I was bothered by the actions of the lead pair at times but could accept & understand their perspectives. This is why the book gets another star and I will be reading more from this author soon.

Ši tikrai nėra verta dėmesio, net negaliu pasakyti kaip ją reiktų apibūdinti. Pick up this historical regency kind of romance only when you know how it is with regency romances. Otherwise there’s a high chance of getting disappointed with the male and female leads including their dialogues. If you know you know 🫠 My first Sylvia Day read and it didn’t disappoint. I knew what I was getting into and I did enjoy the book. It’s short and I read it in one sitting. Action packed too and yes it’s hot.

This was actually a lot better than I expected.
I can't say I liked Amelia that much, but I tolerated her. She wasn't as dreamy as I expected, but I would've liked there to be more on how she learned to fight and such. Obviously Maria taught her, but I would've enjoyed more description of those aspects of her character. Also, she's a little too impulsive and fanciful for my tastes. She should have exercised more caution when interacting with her masked admirer, particularly when she still believed him to be Count Reynaldo Montoya. She kept urging herself to be more reasonable and stop following her heart so much, but she didn't exhibit that. And it's okay that her romanticism is an innate part of her, it's just that it made her to be a rather annoying heroine.
I was okay with Colin, and I respected him for his wanting to help Amelia. To be honest, I'm not so sure I believed in his devotion to her. I don't typically like the idea of growing up to be in love. They had chemistry, like Day's other couples, but childhood love is something I find difficult to reconcile with.
There were a lot of things I liked about this novel, namely, the other characters and the plot. The plot of the first book was awful, the second one better but still not great, but this one was actually engaging and interesting. It also helped that the first two novels built some sort of foundation for this one.
I liked the brief glimpses of Maria and Christopher. Their banter was entertaining. I also have grown to like Simon even more, and am eager to see how his relationship with Lysette will play out in the next book. I'm glad their relationship wasn't steeped in instant connection/lust (the opposite, actually).
I felt somewhat bad for the Earl of Ware up until I read up to the part where he was sleeping for another. I'm glad he didn't try to get too territorial and possessive of Amelia. I expected that the author would write the male characters to be more like that, but I was pleasantly surprised she didn't.
So overall, this book was surprisingly good. Again, I didn't much care for the romance, but it was tolerable enough. I feel that it had potential, but Amelia just wasn't that likable of a character (it didn't help that her personality was difficult to pinpoint, there was either too much description without enough scenes to back up those descriptions, or she was a washed-out version of Maria), and I felt that Colin deserved better, though his dedication to her was admirable. But the plot and pacing, Simon and Lysette, the Earl of Ware, and Maria and Christopher made up for those drawbacks.

I must admit,I have read this one out of sequence in the series,but had no problems following the storyline. In a word: awful. So awful it made my eyes burn - really burn. Downloaded the free sample and won't be buying the full book as it's brain numbing; like a bad rip off of Jane Austen, but not even that well written. In fact this book is so bad, it's acidentally funny. The writer throws a big, possibly archaic, word in here and there in an attempt to impress the reader, but fails miserably in my view. The characters are also stupid/lame - whatever. I'm actually being kind giving one star. A pity as I'm looking for a good romance; just felt patronised reading this like you do when watching something terrible like Coronation Street.

A beautiful tale of love. Amelia lost Colin a few years ago, he is dead but still in her heart. She loved him and knows she is ruined for others but then he comes, a masked man who bestows a reckless kiss on her lips and charms her to no end.
Now she is curious about him, too curious. Will she find out about this Montaya? Who is he ? and why can he make her feel so much when her betrothed, Earl of Ware can't?

After reading it again I realised how much I loved the characters and the overall story once again. Sylvia is a master at creating the right amount of tension, angst and more making it seem more like being in the moment than a story. She has cleverly woven a tale that you are more than invested in the outcome and want to keep reading because you need to know what is happening with the wonderful characters.

Story:
We begin 6 years after the last book, A Passion for the Game, ended. Colin in France living a new life, but still pining for Amelia. Amelia is in London with her sister Maria and her now brother in law Christopher St John. She still grieves for her childhood love, but is determined to move on with her longtime friend and companion Ware. But when Collin returns to London under dire circumstances, be sure shit is about to hit the fan.
I have a big issue with the book. There are big chunks that I’ve already read in Passion for the Game. They show up in the form of dreams Amelia has, and they are totally annoying! Instead of rewriting them into something more dreamlike or an experience from a new perspective, they are just copied straight out of the other book and given cursive text. WHY!! I get that the books are supposed to be readable as a standalone, but be a bit creative please!
Romance/Hotness:
I don’t understand these people.. Not a sane person anywhere! Pretend that you’re dead and create a new life to get the girl you love? Insane. Trow away the life you planned for a passionate night with a stranger and then cry over it? Dumb. The whole book is filled with stuff like this. Or people are drawing their own DRAMATIC conclusions from three words and no questions asked. Crying, shouting, a stupid love-triangle and duel.. All because one idiot simply could not say; ”Hi Honey! I’m alive, and I love you.” And the repetitive topic of what a hotblooded Romani man needs because of his wild ”nature” cooled my blood to ice.
Conclusion:
Copying so much content straight from the previous book and using a unique and rich cultural heritage to make this smut book. It’s an insult to a reader and most of all the Romani people. I’m angry and so disappointed. This book is just a big NO!

Fue un libro que me sorprendió gratamente, fue una lectura que me ayudó a desconectarme del mundo real, fue adictiva y además me entretuvo mucho.
Encuentro que está muy bien escrito, la forma en que la autora describe el ambiente y los diálogos que hay entre los personajes hacen que te sumerjas en la historia y en la época en que está ambientado el libro. Hay muchas emociones presentes en este libro (anhelo, tristeza, deseo, felicidad, enojo), y realmente se sentían a través de las páginas.
Me gustaron mucho los personajes, siento que están bien desarrollados y quizás en algún momento lea otro libro de la misma saga, que probablemente sea el que cuenta la historia de Maria y Christopher (una pareja que me gustó mucho y siento mucha curiosidad por cómo se desarrolló)
Me costó un poco conectar con los otros personajes que hacían parte del problema (Cartland, Jacques, Rosseau, Quinn..), ya que me estaba gustando mucho como se desarrollaba la pareja principal y era lo que más me interesaba leer (sobre todo el momento en que Colin revelara su identidad). Pero al final se puso más interesante y me gustó cómo se resolvió todo :)

Pakte me niet zo als zijn voorganger. Day heeft een erg fijne schrijfstijl, maar de personages lagen me gewoon minder, dat ligt misschien meer aan mij dan aan het boek.
