Olesya I loved Dante Neretti. Until he rejected me. So I ran. A decade later, he’s hunted me down to enforce a marriage contract he refused to fill all those years ago. He’ll rip me from the life I’ve made as a doctor and force me to return to Chicago... to become his unwilling bride.
Dante I loved Olesya Zolotov. I pushed her away to save her. Then she disappeared. A betrayal by my own blood ignited a war with the Bratva, and Chicago’s streets run red with the carnage. I will stop at nothing to protect those I love, even if it means marrying the woman I never thought I’d see again.
CONTENT INFORMATION: Of Murder And Matrimony is intended for adult audiences.
The subject matter of this novel includes mafia themes, dubious consent/non-consent, kink, mental health struggles, kidnapping, forced marriage, mentions of physical abuse, sexual assault, self-harm, torture, violence, and death that may be disturbing to some readers. Reader discretion is advised.
The book ends on a cliffhanger, but there is a HEA for the couple.
Lyra is QUEEN of dark and taboo romance and this time we get the "Prince & Princess" with a twist!
Olesya and Dante are perfection. He's the next in line to be Don of the Italian mafia family in Chicago and living under the weight of what that means and how he can live his life to serve both the family and himself. The only person who could understand what exactly that would mean is the princess of the Russian *family.* It would be so easy to take the prince and princess trope and sugar coat the story. Or gloss over and give us a cinematic fairy tale. This is more the original Grimms brothers.
Of Murder and Matrimony takes place after of Grief and Gratitude (Romeo & Riona's book and the official Book 1 in the Neretti family series). But Lyra does what she does best and builds the suspense from the first FREAKING LINE! Not kidding. She left us on a cliffhanger with Grief and doesn't immediately resolve the situation with the opening lines or even chapters of this book. No. The queen makes us wait for the answers.
I want to send her the bill for my manicure, but instead I'm begging her for more. More Nerettis. More of this world, more glances back to the characters we loved in her previous series. More in the worlds we can see in the hazy mist of world building she's already incorporating as we go.
There were gasps and breath holding... and not just on the pages. I flipped the pages so fast, needing to see what would happen next. And I was never disappointed. I loved these two. I loved how strong Olesya is from the start. I love how she isn't some wallflower willingly accepting fate as it were; even as she's reciting her vows, she's reminding Dante that she could easily be a widow soon enough.
Dante has been the shadow man for several books now. He's the imposing figure who everyone respects. He's sheltered his brothers and sisters whenever he could but also knew there was no way to hide them completely. He's honestly one of the most accepting characters I've seen written in months and to have that come from a mafioso... that's how you know the talent behind the author. She makes you love him and respect him even as you know you'd never accept his actions from someone else.
This is a Lyra Blake book. That means there are potential TW/CW you need to be aware of before reading this book. And again... she's so mindful of what these can do for a person so she provides readers with the necessary heads up. Please heed those. But also note: she is not giving us those as fluff or to make the story "more this" or "more that;" Not to be "darker." No, these are always plot points that enhance the story.
I sat on this review for over a week hoping I could write one better but I can't so here we are. :,)
This was so good. I am currently forcing myself to read something else immediately after so I don’t get a book hangover but I probably will anyways.
Spoiler free portion:
When I say that I DEVOURED this book, I mean it. I was hooked from the beginning. At first it was the need to know what happened after the painful cliffy in book one but it quickly turned into the need to see more of Dante & Olesya. Their relationship was understandably a bit rocky in the beginning but it quickly became beautiful & honest. Fair warning that if you thought Ettore was bad in the other books he appears in, he gets worse. So very much worse. *insert full body shudder & a vom emoji here* The way the overarching storyline of the series progresses is incredibly satisfying though we again end on a cliffy. We see more of the brotherly dynamics & plenty of harsh truths about being in this life. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing behind the stoic mask of the Neretti Heir and I am so excited to see what happens as he takes his throne.
SPOILER PART—-
Below here will contain spoilers so please move along if you don’t want the book to be spoiled or if you haven’t read it yet. . . . . . . SPOILERS IN THIS PART OF MY REVIEW. LAST WARNING.
This picks back up shortly after the cliffy in book one. It takes a bit to be made aware that Niccolo did not in fact die. NEITHER DID SEAN. But that comes much later. Dante and Olesya’s relationship is of course a bit strained in the beginning, being that he took her from the life she built after running away ten years ago when he broke her heart. I assumed it was for a good reason and it was. He was also still madly in love with her so we forgive him. This book made me feel so much. Book one did as well but for some reason I was more invested in this one than I was previously. That’s not to say that the first book wasn’t just as good. I just think there is something a bit intoxicating about Dante and Olesya together. I couldn’t look away and I didn’t want to. I am sure many of these reviews are ranting about Ettore so I’ll keep mine short. Ettore is like black mold. Incredibly hard to get rid of and makes everyone around him sick. We find out that all of the heartbreak and turmoil in the series has been at the hands of Ettore. But he gets what’s coming for him. Cosimo is a complete and total crazy person. I love him. We get to see a decent amount of Cosimo in this book and it only has me dying for his book more.
Back to this book though. Diego was precious. Such a good and genuine man and I swear to everything, if he’s dead, I will riot.
I really enjoyed that Antonella’s love was still clear and apparent in this book. I appreciated how Olesya tried to continue on her traditions and honour her.
I’m really struggling to write a good review, honestly. I loved this book but I’m rambling like a moron.
Upon finishing the second book in the Neretti Brothers m@f!a series I was utterly speechless. Lyra has raised the bar yet again with Dante and Olesya's story. The interconnected world Blake has created is absolutely incredible. I adore the way her plot pacing and character building allows each of the main couples to shine while continuing to weave in moments for each of the other family members we are 0bs€ssed with.
Before you go any further- OMAM must be read after Of Grief and Gratitude, there is no doubt about it. We see consequences of the OGAG ending, heart ache and the change of course for the family business, fuelled by revenge.
Dante and Olesya exist in the eye of the storm. Bethrothed at a young age, a deal between the Italians and their Russian counterparts, their fates were set. In the present- a series of events has seen Olesya having fled, become a doctor under an alias and betrothed to another. Will Dante convince her to return? Will peace be found between M0b heads? Will everyone surviv€? What is Cosimo's b0dee count?? All important questions.
This read has not a single dull moment. Between the brothers interactions, Ettores appearances 🤢 and the sc0rch!ng heat, I was absolutely hooked. The action was well written, I gasped, I exclaimed and teared up. An absolute MUST read 👏👏 5 million ⭐
Finally- on an unofficial note, if you were to be persuaded to give this series a go- please also include The Darkest Edge (Colin and Bianca's story) in your pre-reading along with Of Grief and Gratitude. It is absolute delicious and not to be missed, giving further evidence of Ettore's villianous ways.
Once again, Blake leads us through a thrilling tale of the Nerretti family. Dante is the cold-yet-passionate up and coming Don of the Neretti family, set on ending a war he didn’t begin. Olyesa wants nothing more than to care for her patients, yet little does she know her workload will change to a drastically different clientele when she’s brought back to the mafia life. These two are fire and gasoline; one constantly consuming the other, and as an ARC reader this was another one of Blake’s books I couldn’t put down. Dante’s thought process alone will put you into a spiral, all the while you’ll find yourself praying for Oleysa’s sanity. The two of them are delightfully sharp-tongued to each other, and there is never a dull moment in the Neretti series, and I loved getting to see inside the eldest Neretti’s mind after having him be an imposing authority figure. This reading is filled with characters we know and love (Cosimo, you have my heart) and has plenty of plot twists to keep you reading well past when you should be sleeping. Overall, I will never tire of Blake’s excellent use of description, emotional process, and the amount of food that always makes me crave Italian.
❗️Please read content/trigger warnings for this book as it contains explicit/graphic material❗️ Also, fuck Ettor. Point blank period.
I don’t know what it is about these Neretti brothers. They make me so mad, but I also want to snuggle them close and keep them safe.
The book opens shortly after book 1 closes. The characters are dealing with the aftermath. While we get to explore the relationship between Dante and Olesya through the book, we also get to see secrets revealed and more problems for the crime families of Chicago arise. Chaos is unfolding in the city.
Dante is powerful. He is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his family, THE family, safe. He is complex and vulnerable, and he views the world in such an interesting way.
Olesya is no princess, as she mentions a few times. She has fought to get where she is in the world, and the fight doesn’t stop just because she’s forced back into the world she tried to get away from. Watching her adapt and evolve in her many roles through the book was a joy to watch.
The two together are a force.
I wish we could have seen just a bit more Mafia business and Doctor business. Either way, I really enjoyed this book. Dante and Olesya are something special. I can't wait for the next one!
Please read the Content Warnings before considering this book. Also, do mind the Cliffhanger.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
You know by now I LOVE second chance, and this mafia forced/arranged marriage is such a fun twist on an old favourite.
Olesya, a Bratva princess in exile, tries to deny the darkness inside of her. But she can’t escape it or her betrothed. She doesn’t plan on really falling in love again, but Dante is hard to resist.
Dante does everything for his family. No decision is made without consideration for the consequences. If marrying a woman he thinks hates him is for the good of the family, he’ll do it. Too bad he loses his heart to her (again) along the way.
This book picks up after a cliffhanger, they need to be read in order.
TW/CW: this is a darker mafia romance that contains on page violence and blood, along with s3xually explicit content 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Note: I was lucky enough to beta read this book, this is my honest review.
This is a very late ARC review. But no one is surprised I’m giving Lyra a 5 star rating. Her writing continues to be flawless. This is the second book in the Neretti Brothers Mafia, Dante and Olesya's story. I have been WAITING for Dante. Let me tell you, he did NOT disappoint.
Though each book is a different couple you cannot read these out of order. At the end of OGAG we experienced heartache and sweet revenge that changed everything. And if you’re expecting answers immediately to the cliffhanger that was at the end of OGAG, Lyra edges us, keeping us turning page after page to know what’s coming.
The pacing, the character growth and development, the spice, the banter, this book is perfection. If you haven’t started this series, I highly suggest reading the Edge Series first. Everything Lyra writes is interconnected. Even her first series, the Rivera Brothers.
Lyra’s writing just gets better and better, I honestly couldn’t put this book down! She treated us with some epic plot twists the entire way through, she wrote a damn good villain, a beautiful love story, we got some great banter and yet another huge cliffhanger!
The tensions were high in this book, I mean, do you remember the ending of the last book?! Kind of a given really 🤷🏻♀️ but the twists and the turns just kept coming!
Olesya is a driven, strong, empathetic woman who pushes Dante to his limits. She is the daughter of his enemy, the wife he was always meant to have, his little ghost. Will she change him for the better, or will it be at the detriment of his role in the family?
Overall if you loved Romeo’s book, Dante’s is sure to knock your socks off!
Considering the way book 1 left off, it's easy to say that I started book 2 broken hearted. I know I've loved many characters, but honestly Momma Neretti was my number 1 pic for character to live forever. Nope Lyra yanked that rug out from under us real quick.
Short summary: MY FAVORITE MOTHER since caitlyn stark got yanked from life and all our neretti peeps are grieving. Enter in Dante, whose dealing with the ******* Ettore aka daddy neretti, trying to handle the grief of loosing all our fav beloved mother and lead the family, while also dealing with those pesky russians. Enter in the obvious save to dial back the russian drama, find his runaway bride Olesya.
Former Russian princess Olesya, is trying to live her best doctor life, engaged to some boring country doctor who after this doesn't exist and Dante is not having it. So he tracks her down, shows his sexy bdsm self. There are a few possible triggers and Lyra does a wonderful job warning the readers
Olesya tries to fight that russian princess role, and def has a battle on her hands between Mafia Daddy and getting Dante to listen. All things aside, I love how she tried to not only help Dante but showing her Mafia queen love to everybody in the Neretti family.
I won't ruin the rest of the book or the cliffhanger she leaves us on to book three, but over all she did a wonderful job of serving up the spicey mafia prince loving we all needed.
The only warning Ill give you on this series, is that I read them all within a week, because I COULD NOT PUT THEM DOWN. So if you have stuff to do, these are not the books to be able to set aside for even a minute.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I devoured this book! Dante makes it easy to remain obsessed with the Neretti family. I loved that the outcome of the cliffhanger from the previous book wasn’t revealed right away at the beginning of this one. The world and characters that Lyra has created are intriguing and loveable, even with grey morals.
Lyra is my favorite indie author. Her books are so well written. Amazing storylines, fantastic character development, and she knows how to keep you turning the page. This book was no exception. I couldn’t put it down. A Must read!!! And the spice level is a 10 🔥
I can get through this. I must. There was no failing at my duty to the family. No breaking down when all eyes looked to me for guidance. ~~~ I expected a lot of things from this book. I expected to love it, I expected to become obsessed, I expected to start sweating 🥵😉👀
I did not expect to feel so incredibly seen. Dante is the oldest in the family and heir to the Neretti family mafia. I may not have been heir to a mafia family, but I am the oldest daughter in a large family. The weight Dante carries on his shoulders in one I have felt most of my life and Lyra explained it perfectly.
I am in awe of how well written and realistic Dante was. Lyra did an amazing job as per usual.
I am absolutely in love with Olesya and how perfect she was for Dante.
Go read this, but read of Grief and Gratitude first. If you have read OGAG, read this but get the tissues because apparently Lyra has a taste for pain.
I am not fully sure my heart will survive this series.
