Why is it that we always think our past secrets won't come back to haunt us? Mickey is learning that what goes around certainly does come back. Past hurt from her childhood begins to take its toll on her life, both professionally and personally, as Mickey finds herself deeper and deeper in unnecessary drama. Mickey spins a web of lies and deceit that ultimately causes her to lose a friend and question her true desires. Life seems to be kicking her in the ass as she learns some valuable lessons, but Mickey is ready to start dishing out some lessons on karma of her own.
Michelle "Mickey" Perryman was raised by her mother, Willona Mae Perryman. Mickey wasn't aware of her father until she was 16. It was then when she found out about him and learned of her mother's cancer. Mickey's father was a married minister who wanted nothing to do with his daughter, even less after her mother's death. He stepped in to make sure she had what she needed with the stipulation that it would all end as soon as she turned 21. Equipped with an idea to get from under his thumb sooner, she meets with him to present her idea. Mickey has issues she's currently dealing with as well. How does the meeting go? Will she be distracted by these issues she's having?
For the most part, Kenni York keeps you on edge. Mickey is someone who made some risky decisions and didn't really have anyone to confide in. “Karma 1: The Beginning” is full of turmoil and deceit. There were a few predictable moments, but overall an okay read.
Mickey has some trust issues and I can understand why. She hasn't had her father in her life. He is more like a sponsor to her than a family member. I think it's crazy how she met her father's wife; and to find out she has a sister the same age as she is. I hate that she let a man come between her and her friend though. There is no way I would have let Anthony go. He was a good man to and for her. I gotta read the rest of this series to see how it all ends.
I couldn't believe Mickey let Anthony slip through her hands so easily- & for what? It seems that Mickey was not the best friend Neka thought she was. Karma 1 by Kenni York seems to be the beginning of a great series. Looking forward to part 2
I hope Mickey actually does get therapy. She's hurting and hurt people, hurt people. She really doesn't know what love is, or how to give or receive it. Her father is the main reason she has so many issues, feeling unloved, betrayed and outcast. But she managed to work out her professional life; it's time to work on her personal life. Good read that needs another edit, but I'm moving on to part two.
At first I didn't know what to think about Mickey since she was sleeping with her so called best friend's man, but from the beginning she had a screwed up attitude about life. Mickey is just a girl lost, and her hatred towards her biological had a lit to do with that. Can't wait to read pt. 2
Yeah Mickey life is a mess she doesn't know how to love. Pillsbury and he'd have alot in common there both selfish and think of themselves. Neka needed to toughen up though they both did her wrong. The Congressman about to get what he deserves. Anthony was not a bad boy like Pillsbury but it all good great read.
This series was my choice for my October Book Challenge. I called it the Urban Series Challenge – reading a series by an up and coming urban author. And not to pat myself on the back, but I think I made an extremely good choice!
You know the saying…KARMA IS A BITCH…
Michelle aka Mickey is the main character of this series. She is a “round the way” girl, sweet, young, and often misunderstood, but definitely not “green” to the game. She grew up with a rough childhood, but destines to turn her life around…which she does. She becomes a sucessful business owner and tries to help everyone along the way. But in the meantime, she is waiting for those who wronged her to get their get back. What Mickey fails to realize is that no matter how wrong someone has done you, you cannot do the same to them; even if it does seem fair play. Two wrongs don’t make a right and karma can be a bitch…that you will get you back tenfold! It could take 10 hours, 10 days, even 10 years, but you will always reap what you sow…
Karma 1: The Beginning, Karma 2: This Ain’t What You Want, Karma 3: When the Shit Hits the Fan, and Karma 4: Checkmate
This was my first read by author Kenni York, and I must say, that first chapter gave me that *POW* in your face action! I was absolutely enthralled by the characters, & trying to figure out who Mickey's benefactor was! I promise you, this book gives you drama, lots of it. I started out loving Mickey, then went to wanting to kick her butt, to feeling sorry for her. If you're looking for a good read, full of drama, suspense, sexiness, and a jaw-dropping ending that leads right into the next book, look no further . . . Karma 1 is all that and then some! I was so caught up in the book, I had to read all the books first, before I could even post the reviews. Karma the series is THAT series . . . the one that you just can't put down! Kudos, Kenni York, you did the damn thang!!!
Wow crazy read to say the least. What done in the dark always comes to the light. Karma waits for no one and always comes along when you least expect it to. I feel for Michelle and the hurt she feels for her father's actions but that gives her no excuse to behave how sure does. Necka did not deserve for her so called best friend to do her like that when all she has done is try and be there for her. Sad just sad. Glad that she grew some balls and started standing up for herself though. Good read.
