The Sacred Science of Yoga & The Five Koshas

Rate this book
Most human suffering comes about as a result of a mistaken sense of self-identity. One suffers because they believe they are something they are not. The materialists and scientists of our age have permeated our mainstream culture with the ideas that we are nothing more than flesh and bone; a freak accident in the random affairs of evolution...a physical being, and nothing more. The great Spiritual Masters throughout the ages have taught that we are not just what we see reflected in the mirror. The enlightened teachers from all ages and cultures have taught us that we are much more than just our physical body and that our being is composed of multiple layers or dimensions known by the ancient Vedics as the Five Koshas. Yoga is the process of moving our awareness through the layers of our Being until we arrive at our eternal core, Unbounded Infinite Consciousness.

Breaks down the koshas and associated practices to tap into them in an accessible, easy-to-grasp way. The last section on his personal guru felt completely disconnected from the rest of the book. If the point was about how the power is within us all individually, that could have made a more interesting chapter than his personal story.

That said, anyone wanting to know more about the power of the koshas and how they align with the fourth through eighth limbs of yoga, this is a solid read.

The content is "there" - for the most part - but the writing is garbage. Over generalizations, assumptions, condescending, self involved. Wouldn't recommend this author.

I walked away with a deeper understanding of the Koshas. However, there was an undertone of condescension.

This book really needed an editor. Increasing the spacing in a particularly short chapter to make it seem longer was a cheap attempt to pad the page count. It exposed not just careless writing but an author who mistakes condescension for wisdom and parades a weak, shallow sense of awareness while insisting it is profound, making the whole work feel hollow and pretentious.

A perfect introduction to yoga

Keeping a simple style, the author managed to transmit the true essence of yoga. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an introduction and a general review of what Yoga is all about.
