Wonderful Devotional!

I loved reading this devotional everyday. I was challenged by this author to find how I could see, think, and feel more like Jesus. I believe that through this journey, I've learned more about Jesus' character and loving grace than I ever have before. I would highly recommend reading this devotional and discovering for yourself all God has for you!

This really helps you see things from a better perspective. I don't know if Max Lucado wrote the questions after each devotional, but they're really thought-provoking.

This is a companion devotional to Max Lucado's book Just Like Jesus: A Heart Like His (look for a review of this book coming soon!) Being the Lent season I wanted a devotional to read that would help me to focus more on Jesus. This was perfect! Let me share parts of the introduction with you:

What if, for one day, Jesus were to become you? With one exception, nothing about your life changes. What if, for one day, Jesus lives your life with his heart? What would you be like? Would people notice a change? How would you feel? Would you still do what you had planned to do for the next 24 hours? Adjust the lens of your imagination until you have a clear picture of Jesus leading your life, then snap the shutter and frame the image. What you see is what God wants. Let me invite you to join me for the next thirty days. We will be examining the heart of Jesus together. Since God's plan is to help us become more and more like his Son, it makes sense that we should spend some time getting to know Jesus' heart. Because God wants to give you a heart like Jesus.

Hard to turn away from that, isn't it? That alone makes this book a two thumbs up in my book. This is what I want! If Jesus were to become me for a day I don't want my friends and family to say, "Whoa! What is up with you today? You are totally different!"

Each devotion shows us a side of Jesus, and then challenges us to think about it in relation to our own lives. Lucado poses questions to help us internalize it, provides Scripture to meditate on, provides topics to reflect on, and prayer starters. In typical Lucado fashion there is some storytelling woven throughout the devotions and simple truths. Lucado shares the tools that have helped him learn to listen to God, he illustrates the relationship Jesus had with His father and how the Father wants the same kind of relationship with us.

It would be nearly impossible to spend 30 days with this book and not have a desire to become more like Jesus. And if you invest them time into this devotional, I would venture to say that you will see definite changes once you reach the end.

I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have read many books from Mr. Max Lucado and I consider himself a great author, although after a while you might start thinking that his books are kind of repetitive, always going around the main theme of "You can be everything God wants you to be" (by the way, this is the title of one of his excellent books). But this particular book is different. It is organized in 30 small Chapters, and you are supposed to ready one per day, like a devotional. Each day starts with a verse from the Scriptures, a commented text around the theme of that verse, followed by a "Thinking" block with provoking questions, a "Hearing" block with a verse from the Scriptures, a "Reflecting" block with some more questions and finally a "Speaking" block with questions and final considerations. Here Mr. Lucado shows why he is considered to be a great author. It will not take you more than 10 to 15 minutes to go through the Chapter of the Day, and you will be filled with the Word of God, and something to think about during the whole day.
I recommend this book to the permanent library of all readers that want to improve their relationship with God and have a guideline on how to become more like Jesus.

This book was written by Mr. Max Lucado and published by Thomas Nelson in January 2013. The publishers were kind enough to send me an electronic copy for reviewing through their Thomas Nelson Book Review Bloggers Program. I was not requested to provide a positive review. Opinions expressed here are my own.

I was pleased to review the Just Like Jesus Devotional for Booksneeze book review program. I enjoy reading a variety of devotionals -- often a brief daily reading is just what's needed to think about off and on. And, Lucado is a great author.

This book did not disappoint. Each day, Lucado focuses on one aspect of Jesus' heart that we should emulate. Some things that stood out to me as I read:

Jesus had a peaceful heart. He was willing to forgive those who hurt Him even before they asked forgiveness. He thanked God for His problems.
Jesus was the only one worthy of having His feet washed, yet He was the one who did the washing -- touching the grimy parts of the people He was stuck with and washing away their unkindness with kindness. The one who is innocent was the one who made the gesture.
Relationships don't thrive because the guilty are punished but because the innocent are merciful.
God has said to each of us, "I delight in you."
Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life. Not every thought that comes into your head needs to be allowed thinking over.

See? I told you, it was full of good stuff. Recommended.

I read this book with one of my reading partners in hopes of enhancing the devotional experience. We read them daily, and discussed ones that had the most impact on us.

The setup of the entries follows the traditional setup (passage, discussion, prayer), with a couple of extra sections. Each entry in this devotional is arranged as such:

Opens with a verse
Author's Discussion
Thinking: Questions to consider about the verse and discussion
Hearing: another passage
Reflecting: Questions about the "Hearing" passage
Speaking: The ending prayer

What sets this devotional apart is the highly accessible, conversational presentation of Max Lucado. Lucado makes it personal, while still allowing the reader to feel it personally and to think about and absorb the information. It was also good that most verses that were mentioned were also present with full text. I did have to look up a

If you are looking for a good, one month, devotional, then look no further. This one is worth trying.
