From Emma Cane, Jennifer Ryan, and Katie Lane come three wildly romantic holiday stories featuring snowstorms, proposals, a sleigh ride … and, yes, cowboys.
The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane
Sandy and her young son, Nate, are Christmas tree–hunting when a snowstorm strikes and an old ranch hand points them to an abandoned cabin. Little does Sandy know he sent cowboy Doug Thalberg to the same place. It's a Christmas all of Valentine Valley will remember.
Can't Wait by Jennifer Ryan
Before The Hunted Series began …
Though she is the woman of his dreams, Caleb Bowden knows his best friend's sister, Summer Turner, is off limits. He won't cross that line, which means Summer will just have to take the reins if she wants her cowboy for Christmas.
Baby It's Cold Outside by Katie Lane
Alana Hale hits the internet dating jackpot when she finds Clint McCormick. He's sensitive and responsible—not to mention wealthy. When he invites her to spend the holidays on his family's ranch, she readily accepts. But on the way there, a blizzard strands her with a womanizing rodeo cowboy who could change everything …
Emma Cane grew up reading and soon discovered that she liked to write passionate stories of teenagers in space. Her love of “passionate stories” has never gone away, although today she concentrates on the heartwarming characters of Valentine Valley, her fictional small town in the Colorado Rockies.
Now that her three children are grown, Emma loves spending time crocheting and singing (although not necessarily at the same time), and hiking and snowshoeing alongside her husband Jim and their rambunctious dog Uma.
Emma also writes USA Today bestselling historical romances under the name Gayle Callen.
The Christmas Cabin: Valentine Valley, Book 0.5 by Emma Cane - 3 Stars
Emma Cane penned a sweet, gentle, romance in The Christmas Cabin. I don't generally gravitate towards books with children in them - because they so often feel like plot-muppets - but I actually liked Nate, though he acted older than his 5 years.
I really enjoyed that this was a story the couple, Doug and Sandy, told to their family each year. The first chapter definitely made me curious to read about their children even if this story didn't completely wow me.
Can't Wait: Hunted, Book 0.5 by Jennifer Ryan - 3.5 Stars
This is probably my favorite story in this anthology. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers, and this was such an enjoyable one. Caleb and Summer were perfect for each other.
I loved how he didn't want to hurt her, or his friendship with her brother. He really struggled with how to handle the feelings he had for Summer and I particularly appreciated how he went all-in once he made up his mind. Summer, on the other hand, had no reservations about what she wanted. She made sure Caleb knew she wanted him and had no qualms about putting herself on the line.
But what I really appreciated here was that we got to see why Caleb and Summer are so great for each other. Lots of small moments and conversations, and I had no doubt that they'd be happy for the rest of their years.
Baby It's Cold Outside by Katie Lane - 3.5 Stars
This book started off on a great note for me! The heroine was funny, in a self-deprecating way and it immediately endeared her to me. Alana likes for everything to be planned and in it's place, but she's always been attracted to the wrong sort of man. When she meets someone on the internet that appeals to every part of her - and no good picture to go by - she decides to go for it. Except then things go wonky when she shows up at his ranch to meet him.
I can't say too much about the story here for spoiling it (though I think you'll probably guess the truth quickly enough). I will say that I really liked both the hero and heroine. They were smart, kind, and the chemistry between them was incredibly sexy.
I have one, kind of nitpicky thing about this story. Alana gets stuck in a blizzard and to keep warm she drinks alcohol. This is a common, incredibly dangerous, misconception. Drinking alcohol while stuck in a blizzard is deadly. Now I could have gotten past this if it had later been revealed that it was the wrong thing to do, but then she meets the hero and he gives her more alcohol to "warm her." NO! No, no, NO! Please do not drink alcohol or caffeine if you're in danger of hypothermia. Again, this is a common misconception though. So I don't hold it against the story, but I had to say something. I hate that this myth keeps getting spread.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this anthology and will be looking for more from these authors.
Can't Wait by Jennifer Ryan - December 6 I read the first book in the series, not knowing about this novella but it didn't lessen my enjoyment.
It's a sweet romance with two people who become friends before lovers. We come in at the point where Caleb and Summer already developed deep feelings for each other. He's trying to honor some man code where you don't date your best friend's sister. She's pulling out all the stops to force his hand.
I enjoyed this short, steamy and romantic story with the Christmas season as the backdrop. She's feisty and when he goes all in, it's pretty special. The ending was just what I wanted.
I love Christmas stories at this time of year and I also have a bit of a thing for cowboys so I couldn't resist All I Want for Christmas is a Cowboy. I was already a fan of Katie Lane but Emma Cane and Jennifer Ryan are both new authors to me and I've now added 2 new series to my wish list! If you're looking for a collection of sweet and heart warming Christmas romances then you're definitely going to enjoy this anthology - it's certainly one I'd recommend.
The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane - 4 stars
The Christmas Cabin is part of Emma Cane's Valentine Valley series but as someone who hasn't read any of that series yet I can confirm that this works well as an introduction. From what I can gather the stories already available are those of Sandy and Doug's children so I think fans of the series who already know this couple will enjoy getting their story. When Sandy takes her five year old son Nate out into the forest to choose a Christmas tree the last thing she is expecting is to get caught in a snowstorm. Taking refuge in a secluded log cabin they realise they weren't the only ones caught in the storm and they meet the handsome cowboy Doug. This story was such a sweet romance, obviously in a one room cabin with a five year old there isn't really much room for any smexy times but I loved how Doug and Sandy got to know each other. Yes, things develop pretty quickly between them but that doesn't worry me too much in a novella, especially when there are no declarations of undying love - you just get a real sense of how well suited they are and they'll see a lot more of each other once they have been rescued. I'm definitely planning on continuing with this story and was excited to discover that the first book, A Town Called Valentine, is Nate's story (obviously set quite a few years after this one when Nate is an adult!).
Can't Wait by Jennifer Ryan - 4 stars
Can't wait is a prequel to Jennifer Ryan's Hunted series and is the story of Summer Turner who is the sister of Jack and Sam (the heroes of the first 2 books in the series). Again this is a series that I haven't come across before but it's one I'm planning on continuing asap. Summer has been in love with her brother Jack's best friend Caleb for a long time but no matter how many hints she gives him he refuses to make a move on her. Caleb owes Jack his life so the last thing he wants is to risk losing his friendship by making a move on his little sister but that doesn't stop him wanting her more than anything. Can Summer convince him that what they could have together is worth taking a chance for? I love a good friends to lovers romance so this hit the spot perfectly. This story has a lot more spice than the first one and I really enjoyed getting to know Summer and Caleb. I also really liked Jack and Sam so am looking forward to reading their stories!
Baby It's Cold Outside by Katie Lane - 3.5 stars
Katie Lane's story Baby It's Cold Outside is completely stand alone and not part of her Deep in the Heart of Texas series. Alana met Clint on an internet dating site and they hit it off immediately, he is the complete opposite of the guys she usually ends up with - much more reliable and responsible than the fun loving surfers she usually dates - but she loves that about him and is convinced they could have something special. When she travels from Hawaii to his home in Texas she gets caught in a blizzard and ends up trapped in a cabin with a hot hunky cowboy who is just like the guys she's always attracted to. I don't want to say too much about the story because it would be easy to give you a spoiler so I'll just say I liked both of the main characters. Neither of the is perfect and they both make mistakes but they have great chemistry and are really well suited to each other. This was another heart warming story that left me with a smile on my face.
This is not the first book about the hero not wanting to date his best friend’s sister and, truthfully, I don’t get that, especially when the girl is a grown woman.
However, it was a good story and I liked the players: Caleb, Summer and Jack (her brother.) Their feelings for one another, the longing and love, was very well described, and made you feel bad for them. At first it made Jack look like a jerk but he came around after talking to his twin, Sam.
I thought the author got a little carried away with Caleb calling her “sweetheart.” There are so many terms of endearment: sweetie, honey, darling, love, dear, any number of things, but she was stuck on “sweetheart” to the point it became sooo repetitive in a novella.
There was some good sexual tension and good sex scenes, too. Overall a nice story and I’d give it a 4 since I never skipped a page.
Baby It's Cold Outside by Katie Lane
OMG! I absolutely loved this story. Every single second of it. Loved Clint and Alana, as well as his family, as little as they were in it. And I have to tell you there was some real LOL moments. The remark Alana’s friend, Keiko, made about Alana sleeping with Rand? I nearly wet myself. Then when Alana knocked Clint out with a snowball. Some funny, funny moments.
I’ve never read this author before but I will definitely look and see what other books she has to offer. There wasn’t much sexual tension and one 2 small love scenes but the story and the dialogue were great, so you didn’t miss it.
The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane
I’m giving this story 5 stars but I’m not reading it. I’m sure it was a beautiful story but I just can’t read it. Sorry..
Can't Wait- 2* Gah! I really don't like this trope. Adult man and woman like each other, but resist the attraction. Why? Oh, 'cause it goes against the "bro code" to fall for your best friends sister. Whatever. It did get a little better once that obstacle was jumped over.
Baby It's Cold Outside-3* Best one in this anthology. It was sweet and I really shouldn't say any more to not give anything away.
"Clothes melted away like the snowflakes on the window...", "And it wasn't long before they were both catching the wave." And then she ran outside into the snow completely naked.
Since this collection of short stories came from 3 different authors it is difficult to sum up my feelings.
The only similarities I found were that they involved a wholesome, handsome cowboy and took place at Christmas.
I really liked the first story. Sweet and perfect with all the charm that a holiday romance should have.
I kind of hated the second. I have a hard time when an author uses the same words and phases over and over and over again... ugh.
The third story was good, but pretty far fetched... If it had been me I would not have been so quick to forgive the guy, I don't care how handsome he is!
I received a copy of this book in place of an honest review.
If you love cowboys and Christmas then this is the book for you. These three books will make you laugh and also bring tears to your eyes. It is hard to pick the best one of all three so I will let you do that.
In the first book we have Sandy and her son getting a Christmas Tree. Nate and her get lost and a stranger comes by to help. They find a cabin and all of a sudden they have a visitor. It is Doug and his family own the land and cabin. This is a short and really touching story. Sometimes when you fall in love it instant and you can't stop it.
The second book you have Summer Turner and she is in love with her brother's friend Caleb Bowden. He loves her but he can't have anything to do with his best friends sister. They were in the war with each other and they are really close. This story was one of finding true love and choosing between friend ship and the love of your life that brings peace within.
The third book is a funny one. Alana is going to spend some time with Clint McCormick and she gets a little surprise when she finds out that he has a brother named Rand. This story made me laugh and the best part was the snowball that Alana threw at Clint.
When you read these three stories you get some really great sexy cowboys. I loved every single one and had a great time reading them. Each author did a great job with their characters. This book left me with a warm feeling inside. I can't wait to see what they have in store in the future.
I needed something I could listen to while I did all the mad shopping, wrapping and baking that are required this time of year. I found this wonderful anthology of three short Christmas novellas was just perfect.
The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane Sandy and 5-year old Nate are trying to have a normal Christmas and have gone into the mountains to find the perfect tree. They get caught in a snowstorm and a gnarled cowboy points them to an abandoned cabin. Soon after cowboy Doug Thalberg arrives and each has what they most need for Christmas.
Can't Wait by Jennifer Ryan Caleb and Jack have returned from the war with dark memories and nightmares. Summer is Jack's sister and deeply in love with Caleb, Jack's best friend. The lines of friendship are clearly drawn for Caleb, even when he thinks of Summer as the woman of his dreams.
Baby It's Cold Outside by Katie Lane Alana Hale has been in a dating slump. She wants forever, her dates want right now. She tries internet dating and finds Clint McCormick. He's everything she wants and wealthy to boot. Alana goes to New Mexico for Christmas to spend the holidays on his family's ranch. On the way she gets snowed in with a sexy cowboy and finds out that physical attraction is important to a relationship too.
This is a real nice and enjoyable collection of short novellas. Each one of them has a romantic Christmas theme to them.
The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane – Is a sweet and touching story about how a cowboy and a single mom with her son get trapped in a cabin over Christmas. This novella is a part of the Valentine Valley series.
Can’t Wait by Jennifer Ryan – Is a quick Christmas romance between Summer and her brother’s best friend and foreman Caleb. Not my favorite novella in this book, it is still a nice read.
Baby It’s Cold Outside by Katie Lane – Alana is on her way to meet Clint, a man she met on the internet, when she drives into a snow filled ditch and can’t get out. Luckily she is rescued by a man she thinks is his brother…
I finished this entire book rather quickly. Along with these stories you will also find the titles and a few excepts of the books these authors have written. This book was more like a sampler so you have a chance to try out these authors before buying all of their books. Over all I enjoyed it, it was a nice book to read in one afternoon.
Pretty good. I liked the second story best. The Kindle edition had over 10% of promo stuff. Each story had several screens worth of stuff about the authors' other work, but the at 90% it switched to a bunch promos by other authors. It seemed a tad excessive for a non-freebie book.
This is the perfect holiday read. Two of the stories tell you about already married couples in their series. Which makes those stories even more heartwarming. A great way to sample these authors.
I tried to find something xmassy and found this anthology.
The Christmas Cabin by Emma Cane
This was sort of cute. Two strangers gets stuck in a cabin around xmas. She has her kid with her. They do the best of the situation, and fall in love too
Can't Wait by Jennifer Ryan
Ok so I know it is a novella and things happen fast, but yes fast.
Two people have the hots for each other but oh no his best friend´s sister! Omg, like really, if you are friend then the brother should know you area good guy and just be happy for her.
Baby It's Cold Outside by Katie Lane
I am a bit fuzzy on the details with a certain mixup. Weird. Anyway, online dating leads to meeting and happily ever after.
Xmas novellas. Things move fast because they have to. Sweet and fast and HEAs all around.
#1) Sweet little story of a couple telling their children how they met. A woman + her son were out looking for a Christmas tree and get lost. They find safe haven in a cabin where a cowboy ventures along. (No spice)
#2) Brother's best friend. I only rolled my eyes once, so that's great. Cute story about two people who secretly loved each other and finally make it happen. (light spice)
#3) My favorite story. A woman from Hawaii meets a cowboy on the internet and decides to surprise him. She gets lost in the snow and tries to drink herself warm before a random cowboy on a horse comes to save her. (light spice)
From sweet to silly to scorching hot, these little Christmas prequels cover a wide spectrum of styles and heat levels. I loved that no matter what the situation, the magic of the season brought everyone together in time for love to find our couples for Christmas. This has introduced me to several authors I haven’t read before but I enjoyed so much I will be searching out what else they have to offer.
All three of these authors have written fun and sassy short stories of Christmas in snowy, mountain regions in the Christmas season. I got a kick out all three stories and how the women got their way with their men. Good reads for cozy winter nights by the fire.
This was the only Christmas audiobook on Libby when I checked it out. It wasn’t terrible but wouldn’t recommend. If you judge a book by its cover, this one feels accurate from inside to outside. It’s a compilation of 3 novella stories versus one story. Overall, it’s uber cheesy but was just trying to get into the holiday spirit.
I enjoy the stories. I like short story sometimes to keep me occupied when I waiting for the family to get ready or to go shopping or to a doctor's appointment or for a ride in the car I just like to read
I enjoyed Christmas Cabin best. Sandy, an abandoned young mother, has taken her young son to get a Christmas tree when a snowstorm strikes. They find a cabin in the nick of time, and so does a cowboy.
Can't Wait was a little angst filled for me, when returning vets has one falling for the other's sister.
Baby it's Cold Outside has internet dating leading to true love, with a little bump and snowstorm.
😂 like an R rated Hallmark movie. If you ever get stuck in a blizzard, have no fear apparently a Cowboy will always come and rescue you! I don’t normally read these kinds of book, and every once in a while it’s fun to read something a little lighthearted.
Quick easy read consisting of 3 novellas related to Christmas. Nice happy romances linked to Christmas, struggles and finding someone that was meant to be. The characters are believable and relatable although the situations are a bit out there in some of the novellas.
Three very different but HEA Christmas stories. Fast satisfying reads left me smiling and happy. Also a nice introduction to three authors I will be sure to follow.
The stories themselves were as expected. I should have read the book instead of audio. The reader for the second story was terrible. She made the main female sound constantly out of breath and the guy with groggy morning voice. It was annoying.
