I searched online for this book after hearing an item on local TV about books which had left an impression on peoples lives. I well remember Mum reading this to my brother and I and we soon learnt the story off by heart!

Came across a book of very old ladybird books so naturally read them to the dog while sorting through them. I liked this one. My dog didn’t. It took me to the end of the book to realise the name of the duck, the dog assumed to be a command, and she got frustrated that I didn’t realise she was lying down already. That aside a nice rhyming story with adorable illustrations. Maybe best not read within earshot of dogs though.

I am a little unclear as to why when Downey Duckling fell into the water through the ice he could not float.
