All Iris Jenson wants is a safe place to raise her autistic six-year-old son Thomas. She thinks she’s found it on Haven, an Earther colony located within the Kalquorian Empire’s borders. Making a fresh start under the watchful eyes of Earth’s former enemy has its challenges, but it also possesses opportunities to live free of fear, something Iris hasn’t had in a long time. Love is an added surprise when Haven’s governor Dramok Ospar and his clanmates Nobek Jol and Imdiko Rivek enter the young widow and child’s lives. Trouble is brewing on Haven Colony, however. Insurgent Earthers want to free themselves of Kalquor’s influence, and Kalquor itself is on the brink of a revolt, led by the shadowy figure known only as the Basma. Then a violent ghost from Iris’ past reappears and threatens to snatch Thomas from those who love him. Ospar’s clan races against time to save Haven from a bloody rebellion and an innocent child from the grasp of a monster. Mild BDSM, including anal play/intercourse, bondage, Dom/sub play, forced seduction, and multiple sexual partners (m/f/m/m).

Tracy St. John

Born in a small town on the coast of North Carolina to strict parents, Tracy St. John started out as a quiet, shy child. She was typical for her small town: studying hard for good grades, fishing with her dad on Saturdays and attending church on Sundays.

When adolescence kicked in, so did full-on rebellion. School, family and church fell by the wayside as Tracy partied too hard with the wrong people. Somehow surviving her wild-child phase, she pursued several careers before finally settling on video production and writing.

A string of failed relationships prompted her to give up on love…which of course meant fate immediately tossed Mr. Right her way. After only 4 months of dating, she eloped with the love of her life. They just celebrated 14 years of wedded bliss.

Prior to penning her first erotic novel ‘Alien Embrace’, Tracy wrote commercials, television and radio promos, and training films for various government entities.

Tracy St. John now lives in coastal Georgia with her husband and son. She still enjoys fishing, and you’ll often find her haunting train museums with her locomotive-loving son. Besides writing, she also works in video production both in front of and behind the camera. She’s usually cast as the gun-toting bad gal, getting handcuffed in the end. She has no complaints.

In this the 7th in the "Clans Of Kalquor" series Iris Jensen, a colonist on the planet Haven, and her autistic son are having a hard time of it when Clan Ospar, Jol, & Rivek start helping her which results in getting the attention of the E.I.K rebellion. Because of their threats and for their own safety, Iris and her son Thomas are brought to the clan's dwelling where they proceed to demonstrate to her why she should consider becoming their matara.

Things look promising until a ghost from the past shows up with plans that will challenge the beliefs of both cultures and threaten all the progress that's been accomplished in meshing the Earth and Kalquor nations.

This is a series that may push comfort levels. It has the premise that aliens have come to Earth because their planet is dying off and their last hope is to mate with Earth women, who have been found to be compatible with their species. Earth as a whole was a religiously rigid culture and didn't want inter species breeding or such. Women were subservient to men and that's the way it was to stay. Kalquor didn't exactly abduct Earth women but did liberate them from the sexual rigid religious teachings their society placed on them and gave them the opportunity to mate with their clans. Now I ask you. What would you do if not one but three delicious muscular alpha guys cater to your every whim and sexually pleasure you whenever and however you want and treasure you as the rarest of gems. Me? My bags would be already packed and my signature on the dotted line ASAP. So be warned that there is multipartner and same sex scenes with D/s play scenes.

As to this installment. I am and will remain a fan of this author/series. The sci-fi slant is worked in very well with an erotic romance adult content to complement it. The addition of a special needs son did worry me, as I don't care what species you are, kids do affect the sexual life of their parents. My fears were for not as the author didn't decrease this part just because of that. I seem to recall that there's a standing piece of advice in Hollywood not to be in a scene with kids or animals as they will steal the show. Thomas so did that in this book. Whenever he was featured I found his character to be the most mesmerizing. The author does get bonus points from me also because it would have been easy to write in a technology/medication that "cured" Thomas. Whether she did that you'll have to find out by reading this book.

I did like the twist of E.I.K. and Basma, the fanatical and rebellious groups who are trying to stop the mating of the two planets. Of course one of the two is so obvious in the yuck factor that I had no problem hoping and praying they would suffer terribly as they died. But the other did have me wondering. Were they a product of their environment or someone who had been bullied to the point they felt justified in their actions and deserved compassion. Regardless, this twist did play out and keep me glued to my e reader well into the night to finish this book to find out what would happen and whether there would be a definitive conclusive ending because of their actions.

My one issue was with clan Ospar, Jo, and Revik. After reading "To Clan And Conquer" and understanding the core relationship between the Dramok, Nobek, and Imdiko I felt this should be included in some way in all future books. When this book failed to have any mm or mmm scenes or affectionate play between them I was disappointed. Their interaction came off more as family and friends then lovers. This for e was a step back in the direction of this series.

Still, this is a sci fi futuristic book that continues to delight me with a well thought out plot and twists that throw a curve ball into an otherwise straightforward book. And. I'm so happy there are no tragooms anywhere in sight in this book. :D

I hated three fourths of this book, beginning, middle, and a little bit of the end.

I was initially going to give this book one star, but the ending was good enough to make it go to two. What I hated about this book was how weak the main character was made to be. I hated how the men just wanted her to submit to them when she didn't even know them well enough to do so.

Iris is outside with a snow blower trying to get it on. It startles her son, Thomas, enough so that he runs into the middle of a lane in the road, where a car is being driven extremely fast. She tried to get to him, but fails, and then he is rescued by Jol, the mighty Nobek.

Moving on, Iris goes to a temple to meet Rivek, a priest. She gives him pie meant for Jol, and she hangs out there for like several hours. Thomas plays with a guy named Copin and they talk about Thomas and helping him and stuff. She decides she likes Rivek and Jol and she wants to come up with reasons to them both.

It keeps going on from there, one scene that had me nervous was when there was a burning cross on her lawn because she had been hanging out with aliens and a gang called the E.I.k didn't want that.

Iris gets attacked along with her son, they try to kidnap Thomas, but fail when she contacts Jol and they take her to their place. The next scene was way to drawn out and long, they made her submit, when she didn't even know them and all that. It was very annoying.

The leader of the gang is the governor Ospar and he constantly argues with the Earther governor, Hoover. They start talking about the rebellion and seeing if it came to Haven, where they all live.

It just goes on and the E.I.K make themselves known by setting fire to a house and killing an alien, which I found to be very sad. This is where it started to get better and I started liking it.

Iris and her clan then meet her ex-husband and she freaks out because she thought her was dead.

He kidnaps them and is about to make his escape when they're stopped by a shield, the ex is about to kill her and her son because he doesn't want anyone to have them, then it switches to Ospar's pov, then Jol's. The ex is dead, Iris has been beaten and bloodied, Thomas is happy and all that.

It has a hea. The final love scene is better than the ones before, she actually knows them and all. She gets married to them or whatever the ritual for the aliens mating is called.

I just hated how weak she was in the love scenes. How overbearing the guys were and how she just liked them after only one meeting. I didn't like this book as much as I wanted to, I thought it would have been better, but it wasn't, and I was highly disappointed by this book.

Just reread this for the 4th time. This is one of my favorites of Tracy's Kalquor series.

I love that it is based on a mother with a son who has autism. Thomas is the star of this book. How the 3 men and the mother interact with him, even how some of the secondary characters interact with him steals any scene that he is in.

That being said, when he isn't in the 'room', Jol, Rivek and Ospar each have meaningful connections with Iris. They are supportive, encouraging and understanding. They have actual *gasp* conversations!

The sex is over the top, dominating, hot and steamy deliciousness. If you don't like BDSM stories with dominating alpha men, you aren't going to like these scenes. If you do like your men to dominate in the bedroom, get ready to have your socks blown off.

*spoiler*

One of my favorite parts of the book was right at the end. In spite of the men doing everything in their power to protect Iris and Thomas, they end up saving themselves in a life or death situation. No, I'm not going to tell you what the situation is, just know that when you get there, you'll probably love it as much as I did.

I highly, highly recommend this series to anyone who loves strong men, menage, strong women, BDSM and aliens. Boy I wish there were really Kalquorians.

Keeping it short here, but I just wanted to say that I'm so impressed with the evolution of the Clans of Kalquor series. All of the books are great, but it seems that the last four have really developed into more. (Deeper plot and more detailed characters)

It's hard to find good Sci-fi erotic romance, but I know I can always count on St. James :)

Iris Jensen and her autistic son, Thomas, are living on Haven-the Kalquorian's colony set up for Earthers after the war.  When the Kalquorian Clan of Ospar, Jol, and Rivek, help Iris in different ways, she draws some unwanted attention from rebellious Earthers.  After a couple of threats to their safety, the clan moves Iris and Thomas to stay with them.  All three men are taken with Iris, and decide they would like her to be their Matara, if she would consider it. They do everything in their power to convince Iris, she should clan with them.

Things are going along well until an appearance of someone from Iris' past shows up. Gauntlets are thrown and the progress of integrating Earth and Kalquor come to a screeching halt.

I really have enjoyed this whole Kalquor series! Each book seems to more ingrained and more in depth with stories and feelings invoked. Earth was not a very nice nation as a whole to women. A religious cult and a nation of cowering, resigned women. They were blamed for every infraction and paid for it with their very lives. Who in their right mind would choose to stay in that type of situation if you can have something different? Stay and be victims, or leave and be revered?? I know I would be hard-pressed to say no to three hunky aliens who want to worship me mind, body, and soul!

I highly recommend the entire World of Kalquor series! It gives you strong men, strong women, alien ménage sexy scenes mixed in with a little BDSM to boot! I love how the series is evolving and each book's story is stronger and stronger! Each one can be read as a stand alone as Tracy gives you a lengthy prologue to get you up to speed. So if you start here, you will not be lost! I am certain you will want to go to the beginning and read each book in the series!! It's THAT good!

With this series, the plot arc for the whole series often interferes with what are really tender (albeit erotic) love stories.

If the book was more nuanced about the villains and the cultural issues and spent more time on the romance and the cultural world building, I would likely adore this series.

I tend to like it.

The heroine has been abused and is raising her son with autism on a colony world sponsored by the Aliens Earth was at war with just a few years ago.

All the parts with the begining of education and therapy for her son and the falling in love with the child for the heroes of this book are wonderful.

The falling in love with the heroine is nice as well. Especially the parts with the clergy hero. Well, the warrior hero is pretty sweet too.

Why when these men are bisexual don't we get sexy times with each other? Sad about that in terms of really looking at a bisexual (at least for the males) poly culture.

All the other stuff is a lot of drama and I get a little sick of the zealotry and and hate and wish the series would settle into the two culture assimilating instead of the continued clash.

So, I will keep reading and enjoying and being annoyed at the same time.

This book was just ok for me. I felt it focused too much on the autistic son and his "issues" rather than the telling of a love story.

I started off reading this book and thought it was going to be a really good one at about 20 per cent in, but as I went on it lost steam for me.

I liked the world created by the writer, liked the set up for the story and liked the heroine and heros. But somewhere along the line I lost interest. I think it was right at the time when the clan came together for sex the first time. I was really looking forward to the coming together, then, I don't know, I lost interest almost instantly in the story. It is most likely because of the dom/sub aspect of it. I didn't feel the love between them, just the heros one at a time demanding submission and expecting the heroine to just lay there and take it. It somehow felt clinical. It probably didn't help that the heros have an anatomical thing about them that kind of turned me off and prevented the usual ménage all in play. Dunno, the sex just really didn't do it for me.

I also had a bit of trouble with the naming of the heros. I was fine with their actual names, but when they kept being called by Nobek and Dramok and whatever the other one was, can't remember right now, I kept thinking, "Now which one was that," and I'd get pulled out of the story. Just a personal thing for me.

I did begin at number 7 of this series because the storyline appealed most, and in the end felt that I didn't miss anything from past books to be able to understand what was going on. It was explained quite well where we were.

There was also a slightly strange aspect to the sex, thinking about it now, that it "appeared" the heros are involved sexually with each other prior to the heroine coming along, but they didn't play with each other in the sex scenes (at least I don't think they did, lol, I did skim those a bit because they weren't doing it for me). That was kind of strange.

I'm not thinking at this time to go back and read the other books because I think the same thing will be present. Too much dom/sub and not enough feeling for the loving/sex because of that. It's annoying as I have read dom/sub books before and whilst it's not my fave sexual trope, in this book it might have been amplified because of the fact there were three heros. I just didn't feel the connection somehow. Thinking about it, I might have felt differently about this book maybe if it had have been a normal ménage rather than a dom/sub ménage. Maybe my disconnection might have been as well that it happened too quickly. Not sure. Could have simply been the writing style and because I didn't feel the romance between the h and H's, just couldn't become involved.

Another great story in the Clans of Kalquor series!

Alien Refuge takes place on Haven, a world within the Kalquorian empire that has been set aside for survivors of Earth. Haven is governed by Kalquor with 'help' from an Earther governor. With the usual Earther prejudices and the presence of Kalquorians that are not crazy about the mixing of the races, Haven becomes a simmering pot of rebellion and conflict.

The heroine in this story is Iris. She and her son Thomas are going through a tough time and are befriended by the clan of Jol, Rivek and Ospar. Having a child as a central character adds a heartwarming element to the story. The clan helps Iris and Thomas which actually ends up causing more problems for them. Ultimately, this creates issues for the clan also, since Ospar is the Kalquorian governor of Haven. But in the meantime, the romance between Iris and the Clan is sweet and hot!

There is plenty of intrigue, with the factions of both races disapproving of Kalquorians mixing with Earthers. When these factions get together, betrayal and danger for Iris and her clan are the result.

I was disappointed --- to finish the book! I'm looking forward to the next one.

It might have taken me almost 3 months to read but boy was this book worth it!

I have loved the Clans of Kalquor series since I was first introduced to it about a year ago. Sadly I got soooo behind with reading my books that I am finally just now able to get caught up with all of the stories!

I think what I loved most about Alien Refuge was the fact that Tracy finally brought in a female lead, Iris, who had a priority higher than just the men she was going to eventually get involved with. Thomas, her son, is a super special little guy too, not like most other children. But despite his differences the three Kalquors that this book revolves around accept him regardless and love Iris even more because of him. They're all such good guys!!

Ospar, Jol, and Rivek were really great characters. You are first introduced to Ospar and Jol in one of the Clan Beginnings books and I've liked them since then and always hoped they'd get their own book! I have already bought the next few books in this story and can't wait to finish reading them!

Gotta say, up until now the first two books of the series were my favorites...don't get me wrong, I liked the others - however the first two really spoke to me.
Alien Refuge really knocked my socks off - literally! This book really had everything I like - 3 delicious Kalquoians that are all alpa male - yet this group has a warmth and sense of humor I really enjoyed! I also liked the character of Iris - she is strong without being bitchy and she does not get caught up in endless head trips!
The addition of Iris' son Thomas was so well done and really helps understand the joys and challenges a parent of an Autistic child goes through in a realistic unabashed way that I have to admire!!
Yes - the spice and steam level of this one is off the charts - I think Tracy writes these scenes better every time!
Really enjoyed this one!!
Thanks for a great read Tracy!

I don't write review often but probably should write more. I was compelled to write a review for this after having re-read it for like the fourth time and just being impressed by some of it's many facets. I love that this book includes normal women - not 'gorgeous' women. A single mother with a young autistic child are the main characters who find love & family with 3 Kalquorian males. I love that the characters are life like. Even more than that - no society is perfect so even the Kalquorian society has it's bad apples. These facets of not perfect people makes it easier to "believe it could be real." It makes it easier to associate with the characters and the storyline. I love erotica tied to a good story and this book does that too - great sex scenes that both excite and pull your heart strings. I love the whole Kalquor line but this is one of my favorites.

This was the second best book I read out of the series. I loved Iris. The love and protectiveness she had for her son was beautiful. Ospar, Jol and Rivek were an awesome triplet. They were more tamed then the other Dramoks, Nobeks and Imdikos I have read throughout the series. I'm wondering if it had to do with the fact they are way older and have been together for years compared to the rest of the triplets. Either way they should Iris the love that she needed compared to her ex and accepted her son with open arms. They were very protected of him, they deserved a wonderful female to ad to their clan. All in all the second best of the series.

I found this a difficult story to read having a feeling of dread throughout the book taking away from the usual pleasure of reading. Too many bad things were about to go wrong and I didn't enjoy it so much because of it. I liked the different approach being on Haven, and certainly Ospar, Rivek and Jol were no less perfect than any other of the clans Tracy St. John has written about. I particularly liked how independent Iris was and the way she had pulled herself out of her own troubles to build a life for herself and her son Thomas.

Nice addition to the "Clans of Kalquor" series.

The sex is absolutely scorching hot, and the characters are fairly well-drawn. Iris is one lucky lady!
The political intrigue about the mixed "clanning" adds suspense to the story and keeps you turning the pages.

St. John's characterization of Thomas, Iris's autistic son, is really done well...she allows you to see what a great little boy he is. Kudos to the author for including a child with this condition in her cast of characters!

I have read this entire series. I like the world building. It's engaging and fascinating. Certain parts of the anatomy of the male aliens are...well a bit much. The word unnecessary leaps to mind. Still it didn't keep me from reading the entire series. Liked this book because the female had an autistic son. It was a pleasant surprise to see the clan being so accepting of him and I was intrigued with the ways the clan managed his behaviors.

This was one of the better Kalquor books, in my opinion. Sure, as with all there is the multiple lovers and the explicit scenes that we've come to love but his one has the added interest of a disabled child. I enjoyed this one, as I have the others. I do have one thing to say about this and so many other stories I have read here - what is with the nipples hardening at the sight of a man? In my entire life that has never happened. Maybe I missed out but I just don't see it happening.

This book was something I couldn’t put down. The sex, story line, autistic aspects, and abuse kept it a phenomenal page turner. I was drawn in by it being a story about a mother with an autistic child whose struggling alone. That alone was an autistic mother myself was surprised to even know they had erotica with this context. Soo hell yes I’m reading! Us parents know we stick together.

The story was something all on Its own then some. Iris is a lovely women who desired the moon and the stars! Her son brings (for once autism is being adored) such heart and love. Thomas brings heart to the men you wouldn’t think it even be apart of this type of story. Thomas being autistic is what what really brought some strong men to there knees literally several times over. The love the men had for her child and acceptance right off the bat is unheard of. The men whose very dominant personalities then compassionate around him undid iris and me.

This story as a whole was so detailed and painted such a picture i will continue on with this author. I praise her writing and flow of the story. I was very very invested from the first chapter with this women. I especially loved rivek ! I can’t place why he was so special to me out of the bunch. I would highly recommend this book to fellow autism mom! Us mom are so stretch thin we need a good two dick man story to lighten the days.

Enjoy
