The enemy of my enemy is...still my enemy?! As the madness of the Kishin continues to threaten the world, Noah and Medusa race to find Asura and ally themselves with him. With Noah reliant on demon tools and Medusa on her experimental black blood, DWMA must devise ways to combat both evils while trying to seek and destroy Asura themselves!
Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
Black star looks for corona Coronas black blood has returned and even stronger that they’re holding 3 swords He’s able to beat them but while that’s happening Justin law has found Medusa and is fighting her This is an amazing display of Justin’s fighting techniques since he’s a lone weapon Death holds a meeting on how to bring kid back and uses the help of a few witches They’re able to recreate eibons book and have the gang go in While in Index takes them through the chapters Starting at the first lust Everyone switches genders to look what they find attractive in the opposite sex While there kid is enveloped in madness
Soul Eater, Vol. 17 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next five chapters (68–72) of the on-going manga series.
Black Star discovers during his fight with Crona that Crona's memories of Maka Albarn and Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA) have been erased by Medusa. The fight is cut short when Medusa is attacked by Justin Law and orders Eruka Frog and Mizune to help Crona escape. They succeed, but Eruka Frog is captured by Black Star.
At DWMA, Soul Evans finds that dozens of other students are requesting him to become their partner now that he is a death scythe. Maka Albarn tries to pay the matter no mind until she notices a single girl who frequently stares at them from afar. Shinigami organizes a plan to rescue Death the Kid from the Book of Eibon with the help of witches Kim Diehl, Risa, Arisa, and Eruka Frog, who open a portal into the book for the members of Spartoí to enter.
The group begins navigating the book's seven chapters thanks to the Index's help, each based on the seven deadly sins, starting with the first chapter "Lust", where the group members switch genders. Meanwhile, deep within the book, Death the Kid encounters a black amorphous creature referring to itself as one of the "Great Old Ones", which consumes him and begins to slowly drive him to madness.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo. The tankōbon is divided into two sections. The first revealing that the memory of Crona has been wiped by her mother Medusa about her experiences at DWMA. Secondly, a rescue mission is sent into the Book of Eibon to rescue Death the Kid, but it may be too late, as he is slowly being consumed by madness.
All in all, Soul Eater, Vol. 17 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
Poor crona, losing her memories about the DWMA. The black clown is also now part of crona's arsenal so that was interesting that Medusa attached it to her. However, the battle with black star is cut short since Justin attacks Medusa for Noah i believe.
Eruka and mizune try to help crona leave but eruka gets caught by black star.
Soul, now a death scythe, is getting requests for new partners by ladies and Maka tries to not let it bother her. There is a single girl that stalks them that starts to bug her though.
I loved when the witches Risa, arisa, and Blair are called to shinigami's office and they mistake it for a party. It's really cute and hilarious. Marie gets annoyed when Stein hangs out with a witch, not sure which, so that's pretty funny foreshadowing.
After a while shinigami admits that he called the witches, including Kim, to help rescue kid. They use the book of ebion, which Maka not Medusa took from the restricted area, to send the members of spartoi in it.
They find the index which looks like a weird creature and he helps navigate them through the chapters to kid. Unfortunately, the chapters are based on the seven deadly sins.
They start with lust and everyone switched genders and it's as funny as you think it would be.
Kid, meanwhile, is having to deal with a black amorphous thing that refers to itself as one of the "great old one." It consumes him and drives him mad. Poor kid.
Onto the next book.

Yay I'm glad to see Crona again. Despite the fact that she's on the side of madness I like her and I secretly hope that she comes back to the good side. I really like this series the end is near and I already feel nostalgic. I can't wait to finish the series, but at the same time I would have liked to read it more slowly because it is really good.
This volume had a slower pace than the last volume. It spent the majority of the plot setting up the rescue for Kid. Gopher finally finds a way to torture Kid, with his uneven frown and by ripping his clothes into uneven shreds. It was hilarious that that's what finally broke him. The end shows Kid going mad and now that Maka and company are in the book to get him, it'll be a difficult mission to complete.
I predict that Black Star will be the one to break through the madness and make Kid right again.
I do like what is going on with Crona as they show that her mind is breaking as Medusa is forcing more and more insanity experiments on her. It is pretty cool and the different types of clowns we are seeing and exploring what other effects Insanity has on people is really interesting. We are also finally starting the next arc which is about recusing Kid and it seems that it is exploring more about Death and the Eibon and a lot of backstory of this world which is always nice, World Building is also good for a story.
Don't mind me, I'm just casually re-reading the entire manga for the 5th time or so because A) it's one of my comfort series and I need all the comfort I can get right now, B) I own the entire thing physically so it's right there, and C) everyone is talking about fall/ Halloween reads and SE fits that to a T.
Gonna give all the volumes 5 stars as a default. There's plenty I could complain about if I wanted, namely the unnecessary fanservice/ weird sexualization of teen characters, but I'm not gonna do that right now. It pops up rarely enough that I can just pretend it doesn't exist.
This was a pretty regular, decent volume for throughout. And then I got to the final chapter and this series gave me everything I never knew I wanted. Rule 63 gets me every time. Thank you Atsushi Ohkubo!
Ahhh, Death Kid /o\ I wanna protect! But also...hello Blair? ^^ Ane the gender swap...I kinda forgot all the characters in that scene but what an opportunity to show a character with same-sex attraction.
An interesting installment and I can see why people, including my past self, like this series so much. There are some interesting fights and the story is well-illustrated but nothing other than my own determination is maintaining my reading of this series.
Still have a blast with this series. We have fully moved away from the events of the anime. I'm pretty sad that this plot line is missing from the show because it's the best part of the character arcs and story thus far!
Pretty awesome series, I love most of the main characters! The story’s alright but still very enjoyable tho I think I prefer the anime much more😁👌⚔️📖❤️
I'm older than I have been as I read this series for the first time, so during this reread the fanservice with these young characters is uncomfortable. I still like the plot development though.
