We acquired this book too far into our parenting journey. I wish we had this book when our first child was an infant. The sounds and paper movements are fascinating and very sturdy for little hands. The beaver, pelican and alligator mouths that open and shut are top notch interesting and durable. When you get this book, you are getting the planning of a top notch paper engineer, not a dollar store “pop up” book.
A fun board book for toddlers with textured illustration and pull tabs about a variety of animal mouths. Little ones will find the book entertaining, especially the page with the beaver!
Cute book! Can't help but notice the animals are all gender neutral until you get to the hippo (with a bow on its head).. "Some mouths don't know when to shut, blah blah blah blah". Hmmmmm
Recommend for your little reader. [Children's book. Great for ages 1yr+.]
My little one love, Love, LOVES this book. Tactical elements for little fingers to explore, but much more fun/satisfying for little readers the direct interaction. They control elements of the book via pull tab.
I have the book in both the larger and smaller versions. Kiddo loves the smaller. I guess that makes sense as it's more manageable for little hands to hold and manipulate.
Just be ready to repair or replace as it will get lots of use.

I requested this book for the library because I saw it had pull tabs while searching their online catalog. Sadly there copy had top of the alligator's mouth missing on the cover and beaver pull tab wasn't working. It didn't seem to hold my almost 2 1/2 year old attention at all.
Busy biting beaver mouth is awesome; the pelican is wonderful; my child has learned all about alligators munching apples (and also how to use pull-tabs). Minus half a star because the text leaves something to be desired.
- interactive - different modes (not just pictures but also different materials for things like the beard) - animals - good for young children (especially those who like animals)
My 1-year old loves to play with this book. That's a good thing, and a bad thing. It's great because there is nothing cuter than a little toddler walking up to you with a book. It's bad because this particular little toddler likes to see how things work, and made quick work of decapitating the beaver, folding the alligator's snout in half, and ripping off the pelican's upper beak. Not all kids are that quick in their destruction, but word to the wise.
The main problem I have with this book is that it's not written in any sort of sentences. I understand that was a purposeful choice by the author, but I just don't care for it. This is one of my least favorite books to "read" 10 times in a row because I feel like I need to translate the written words into full sentences. I can't help myself.
Still, the kid loves it, so it remains in heavy rotation.
