These pirates SO love underpants, They're on a special quest to find the fabled Pants of Gold, For the Captain's Treasure chest. This hilarious new addition to the Underpants series is full of pirates, sharks and treasure. You'll be yo-ho-ho-ing until the sails come down!
I’ve been a writer for over 15 years now, but it wasn’t planned!
I had a variety of jobs, including secretary, trainee buyer at Harrods, dental nurse, production assistant in a reprographic and printing company and various others.
I began to write after joining a creative writing class. I had no success with article writing, or short stories, or fiction, but the first children’s story I wrote, for a magazine called Twinkle, was accepted for publication. Hooray!!!
Things snowballed and a lot (yes lots and lots) of hard work later I now write full time and have over 50 books published. I still go to the same writing class and we have become a big happy family of writers!
For me, writing is the best job ever. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. I love to create worlds for young children to enjoy and escape into – whether the stories are educational, bedtime, problem solving or just plain good fun. It’s also very exciting to see the first picture roughs, as my wonderful, talented illustrators bring the text to life.
I live on the Essex coast in a lovely two-bed-roomed flat, which I share with my husband, Michael. At long last I have an office to write in, with room for all my books and bits of scribbled on papers.
The seafront is (still) just around the corner, and I find a bracing walk (it gets freezing when the East wind blows from the North Sea!) or gentle stroll when the weather is warmer, is great for clearing my head and mulling over story ideas.
Another installment in the 'Love Underpants' series.
Written by Claire Freedman, this is lots of fun with lovely illustrations by Ben Cort and clearly with the subject matter(s) of Pirates and Underpants - what's not to like?
A nice fun and irreverent read, however lacking the class and not in the same league as the works of such as Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
I like this book and it's silly theme. Pirates running around in underwear over their clothing is nonsensical but we all amuse that pirates wore underpants and we can image those scary, dangerous pirates in those tidy-whites. The pictures are tropical and bright blue!
This book came into our household as a birthday gift for one of my children. It has since become a firm favourite.
The Black Bloomer and the pants pirates are on the hunt for the famous golden pants to add to their treasure booty. Will they find the famous pants of gold or will another pirate crew get there first?
Some children's books are obviously educational, others hide the lessons in the pages. Some books are just plain old fun, and this is one of them. Don't get me wrong there are opportunities for kids to learn, as there are with the majority of children's books. There are footsteps to spot, times when we have to whisper and opportunities to play find the object or count crocodiles under the Long-John bridge (a cracking double joke covering both pirates and underpants in one fell swoop). This is a lovely adventure story for young children. It includes pirates, crocodiles, parrots and underpants so there's lots to appeal.
Ben Cort's illustrations are fun and colourful, perfectly capturing Claire Freedman's words and help children engage with the story.
Its the sign of a good children's book when you are asked to read it again straight after the last page. Its a sign of a great children's book when you don't mind that second, third or twentieth read through. This is an engaging, fun read for young children and those reading to them.
My daughter really enjoyed 'Alien love Underpants', so when we saw this follow-up from Claire Freedman at the library, we grabbed it. We weren't disappointed - it may be even better than the original. Lovely illustrations that are full of fun and plenty of things to spot and discover on re-reads, just the right mix of rhythm, rhyme, zaniness and story in the text. We got it out two hours ago and have already read it four times. Highly recommend this to any parents of toddlers.
Cute book. Haven't read the rest in the series. Kids obviously love it. Some rhymes are a bit forced but 'the captain has a cunning plan, it's clever! It's fantastic! Grab their fancy underpants and... Cut through the elastic!' Is pretty funny no matter how old you are. ;) the pictures are engaging and well done.
Not quite as clever as the first, but the 4yo was happily engrossed with the pictures for at least 15 minutes after we finished reading it, looking at the alien, the cat prowling along the boom, the parrot wearing underpants, and so on, so although I'd personally rate it 3 stars it seemed worth bumping up.
With this book, we have now read the whole underpants series - Miss 4 would have been quite happy for there to be more! She loves looking at all the different pictures of underwear. She also likes the bedroom scene at the end where there are references to the books and the idea that the stories have been made up with the toys in the room.
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I read this as a bedtime story to my younger brother, and thoroughly enjoyed this, as did he. The Rhyme that flows through the story is excellently well done, and rather witty. This illustration which accompanies it is also very fun, and could easily tell the story without some of the text to back it up. As a quick and fun read I would recommend this story. It is a book that could support the writing of rhyming poetry as it subtly introduces children in to this style, and could be a potential stepping stone into a poetry topic, if the children are reluctant for any reason.
This was cute and fun. The illustrations are nice and the rhythm of the book is easy enough to find. The plot is pretty clear and it is well paced, this is probably one of the better books in the series. Though at the same time, the series is fairly repetitive in a way. I think kids would like it as it is fun.
Most kids love books about underwear or books about pirates -- and in this book, Freedman cleverly combines both of those themes. I think it works best with a slightly older group -- 4 and 5 year olds and up, I guess. My three year olds in storytime could not quite grasp cutting the elastic in underwear... Maybe a visual next time would help! (of elastic, that is.)
Ugh, clever but I won't use this one in story time because it glorifies the pirates stealing from other pirates and it's just weird that everyone wears their underpants on the outside of their clothes. I'm sure this is just the book for some kids, but I find it off-putting and weird. The only one of this series that I enjoyed was Aliens Love Underpants.
On the (slight!) chance that you haven't encountered this series yet, it is a must for the Kinder age-group.
"Pirates Love Underpants" by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort is the favourite in my class - really, how can you go wrong when you combine pirates and underpants? It's laugh-out-loud and a fun adventure. Using a pirate voice just adds to the entertainment.
A horde of underpants loving pirates set sail in search of the fabled Pants of Gold to add to the Captain's treasure chest. The pirates soon discover that other pirates have beat them to treasure, so they do what any other horde of pirates would do. This rhyming swashbuckling adventure is fun filled, and full of laughs.
This book is about a bunch of pirates seeking the golden underwear. They find that another group of pirates found it first and decided to cut the elastic in their underwear and steal it. Even the sharks are wearing underwear in this story.
I normally love the Underpants books, but this one fell a little flat. The rhymes were not as nice and the cadence a bit hard to follow. Plus much of the story seems to be missing the underpants fun of the other stories in this series.
🤎Pirate adventure story ❤️Fabulous end papers with different pants to chat about 🧡Some lovely vocabulary choices such as 'unfurl' 💛Rhyming text 💚Good discussion point - should they have stolen the gold underpants? 💙Rich, vibrant, humorous illustrations 💜Plenty to spot and talk about on each spread
This is pointless and unappealing to me. I was willing to give it a chance despite the underpants focus if it was funny enough, but it's not, the rhyme scheme is forced, and I don't want to read a book for pirates storytime that ultimately glorifies stealing.
Another that was a huge success with the kiddos!😊💚 This is a great interactive storytime book, used it to get my kiddos to move around in the library. Also, another book that is great to practice colors, shapes, and vocab.
I honestly love all the giggles I get from students!
A goofy book about pirates looking for treasure... but with a twist. My boys find this book hilarious and giggle the whole time when I read it to them. For some reason, underpants make everything funnier... and this book is filled with them.
I am never a fan of having to turn the book sideways to read one page. That's annoying and frustrating. Plus the last page of turning your face red doesn't make any sense because the kids won't make that connection, they would make the connection of having their own undies drop. IDK.
Like that it rhymes but the rhyming isn’t very clever. I’m still not sure why pirates like underpants so much! I guess it’s a part of a love underpants series but I just found myself thinking ‘I don’t get it.’ Clearly meant to be silly but my kids 5 and under didn’t laugh…
