About the author

Jo Nesbø is a bestselling Norwegian author and musician. He was born in Oslo and grew up in Molde. Nesbø graduated from the Norwegian School of Economics with a degree in economics. Nesbø is primarily famous for his crime novels about Detective Harry Hole, but he is also the main vocals and songwriter for the Norwegian rock band Di Derre. In 2007 Nesbø also released his first children's book, Doktor Proktors Prompepulver.

Kako se serijali promene od prve do četvrte-pete knjige, to je čudo jedno. Hoću reći, u Prdiprahu Nesbeu na pamet nije padalo da ubacuje fore strogo za roditelje, poput omaža Mami Barker ili poslednjoj Zidanovoj utakmici na Svetskom prvenstvu 2006. i to usred finala knjige. Valjda se malo opustio kad je shvatio da pisanje za decu nije mnogo teže od pisanja za odrasle.

Нека кренат рака сите што не знаеле дека Ју Несбе пишува и детски книги 😀Се изненадив кога ја забележав книгава на Фејсбук страната на Паблишер, весел наслов и корица, а автор токму Несбе.
Приказната е мошне забавна. Украдени се резервите на злато од Националната банка на Норвешка неколку дена пред планираната инспекција од Светската банка. Норвешкиот крал се обраќа за помош до доктор Проктор, Буле и Лисе. Бев изненадена од пишувањето како да читателот треба да е веќе запознаен со тројцата херои за по краткото пребарување на Goodreads да дознаам дека е ова всушност четвртата книга во серијалот за Доктор Проктор (се надевам дека ќе бидат преведени и другите! 😀)
Потрагата по златото не води во Лондон и скриени пораки од Скотланд Јард, а доктор Проктор, Буле и Лисе ќе ги покажат своите таленти во откривањето на крадците и озлогласените браќа Кранч. Авторот/нараторот директно се обраќа до читателот и го води низ дејството.
Вешто се вметнати и фудбалерите, опсесијата со спортот и освојување на Купот како и руските милијардери.
Придружена од илустрации, но морам да признаам дека не ме воодушевија, претпоставувам поради тоа што преферирам јасни линии.
Полна со хумор и авантура, препорачувам за деца над 7 или 8 години. 😄

Još jedna avantura u kojoj će doktor Proktor, Mrva i Lisa otputovati u London, kako bi riješili krađu zlata iz norveške banke. Mrva će čak postati golgeter u važnoj utakmici Rotten Hama protiv Chelchester Cityja. Kad se tu još naleze pripadnici Još tajnije tajne službe Njezinog Kraljevskog Visočanstva - Jack Jekyll i Trbosjek Hyde, uspjeh je zagarantiran. Duhovito i simpatično, kao i uvijek!

Για όποιον ενδιαφέρεται να μάθει τι κοινό έχει ένας κοντός, έξυπνος και ψευταράς κοκκινομάλλης, ένα έξυπνο κορίτσι με αυτοπεποίθηση, ένας ιδιότροπος εφευρέτης που φορά γυαλιά κολύμβησης αντί για γυαλιά ηλίου, οι αδερφοί Ριφιφί με τη μάμα τους, ένας τελικός κυπέλλου, ένας Ρώσος ζάμπλουτος, το χρυσάφι της Νορβηγίας, το κύπελλο του τελικού, το χρυσάφι της Βραζιλίας και οι παγκόσμιοι κανόνες Χτυπόκερ, ας διαβάσει αυτό το βιβλίο. Κανένας από τους βασικούς ήρωες δεν πεθαίνει, ούτε γίνεται κιμάς, δεν μπορούμε όμως να είμαστε σίγουροι για τους υπόλοιπους!!!!!

Najlepšia časť doktora Proktora, keďže Bule a Lisa využili oveľa viac jeho vynálezov a hlavne nedá sa nemilovať Buleho, ktorý sa svojimi kecami dostane z každého prúseru a Lisu, ktorá v zásadnej chvíli neváha použiť prdiprášok, aj keď sa zapovedala, že to neurobí.

Neviem, či som už spomínala naozaj neobvyklé ilustrácie, ale je to niečo, čím táto séria naozaj vyniká oproti iným detským knihám.

Ignorišite to što na poleđini piše za uzrast od 9 do 12. Iako je prvobitno pisano za decu mislim da se i odrasli mogu nasmejati, posebno što ima nekih delova upućenih baš njima.
Doktor Proktor, Bule i Lisa pokazuju neverovatnu snalažljivost i bore se za pravdu i u ovom, četvrtom delu serijala.

Doktor Proktor, Mrva i Lisa su se vratili! U svojoj četvrtoj pustolovini, ponovno je na njima da spase Norvešku od propasti. Naime, banda pljačkaša, koja se sastoji od trojice braće i njihove 'strah i trepet' majke, upravo je ukrala čitavu norvešku zlatnu rezervu, i to taman uoči predstojeće inspekcije Svjetske banke. Bez obzira na to što se spomenuta norveška zlatna rezerva zapravo sastoji tek od jedne jedine zlatne poluge, kralju je očajnički potrebna prava ekipa profesionalaca da polugu vrati na vrijeme. U suprotnom, Norvešku očekuje strašna sudbina: mogli bi postati siromašni baš poput Istočne Austrije! Budući da ne postoji bolja ekipa od one koju čine Doktor Proktor, Mrva i Lisa, koji su svoje nevjerojatne sposobnosti već nekoliko puta dokazali spasivši Norvešku, a i svijet, od raznih nevolja, i sada je na njima da svoj spasonosni pothvat ponove i krenu u još jednu ludu avanturu.

Nakon prethodne 3 pročitane knjige o Doktoru Proktoru i njegovim vjernim mladim suradnicima, Mrvi i Lisi, već pri samom pogledu na četvrti nastavak veselilo me što ću se ponovno nasmijati i super zabaviti uz avanture ove nevjerojatne družine.

Kao i u prethodnim nastavcima, ni ovdje ne manjka ni pustolovina, ni uzbuđenja, ni ludo odvažnih pothvata, vrckavih likova, smiješnih situacija, niti čiste zabave. A ne nedostaje ni uobičajenog ironičnog ismijavanja koje čuči unutar priče, a koje se ovaj put bavi najvažnijom sporednom stvari na svijetu - nogometnim prvenstvom, i općenito nogometnim svijetom klubova čiji su vlasnici osebujni milijarderi koji se ne libe potrošiti nezamisliv novac na pojačanja svog kluba u obliku novih igrača. Sve aktualnosti svijeta najbogatijih nogometnih klubova sjajno su iskarikirane ovdje. Pa tako, ako se malo bolje zagledate u ruskog milijardera Rubljova, vlasnika kluba Chelchester City, koji se upravo sprema kupiti najskupljeg igrača na svijetu Ibanaldoveza... zvuči li vam poznato? :)

Radnja ovog romana premještena je iz Norveške u London, u kojem će naši junaci imati mnogo posla, ali u njihovim će im naporima, kao i uvijek, od velike koristi biti genijalni izumi Doktora Proktora: precizna ciljna rukavica, cipela-sjekira i multijezična pilula, kao i nezaboravni prdoprah. Da bi došli do kradljivaca koji su ukrali zlato i otkrili gdje ga drže, Doktor Proktor, Mrva i Lisa morat će se infiltrirati u njihove redove i izložiti opasnosti, a sve, dakako, ne bi li spasili svoju zemlju od financijske propasti.

Ako ste već čitali knjige o Doktoru Proktoru (a ako niste, što čekate?), onda znate da u njima akcija kreće već od prve stranice, radnja se samo sve više zahuktava, a naši junaci (bezglavo) srljaju iz jedne avanture u drugu, iz opasnosti u opasnost, iz svake se od njih izvlačeći nezaboravnim i domišljatim (a i pomalo teatralnim) idejama.

Uz Doktora Proktora, Mrvu i Lisu, zabava i avanture nikad ne prestaju, a znamo kako vrijeme leti dok se dobro zabavljaš, tako da i ovoj knjizi i prebrzo dođe kraj. No, do tog kraja, uživat ćete u svakom poglavlju, nasmijati se svakoj neočekivanoj zgodi i nezgodi glavnih junaka, popraćenoj simpatičnim crtežima, koji priču sjajno nadopunjuju.

Pustolovine Doktora Proktora i njegovih kompanjona izvrsna su zabava i za djecu i za odrasle, a četvrta po redu od tih pustolovina nije nimalo drugačija. Svakako pročitajte!

This is hilarious! I read the first three books in this series 5+ years ago and just never got around to reading this final book. The book is so much fun with a lot of wordplay and crossing of the fourth wall. The picture on the cover and the summary on the back do the book a disservice by suggesting the book's theme is soccer. It is not. The story centres around the robbery of Norway's gold reserves (one gold bar, to be precise) and Nilly, Doctor, and Lisa are called in by the King to save Norway once again. They travel to London where they try to steal the gold back after tracking down the notorious thieves, the Crunch Brothers. The soccer episode starts in the last 50 pages only. A rip-roaring fun adventure with awesome fun silliness!

Да, да, вероятно човекът си пише в свръх модерен апартамент, обзаведен от Икеа, но нека си представя малко по-мистична творческа атмосфера, пък.

Ако търсите наистина чудесно и изпипано в шантавостта си четиво не само за децата си, но и за самите вас – доктор Проктор ви доставя нещо като сюрреалистичен хорър, весел трилър, хухавелска приказка за възрастни и умни деца в едно, което е като огромна бисквитена торта с ягодов крем като от едно време за ума. Нямам достатъчно крайници да вдигна за подстрекаване на незабавната покупка на Несбьо, но си представете, че го правя, като едновременно с това вея помпони, скачам на един крак и пея Марсилезата, щото защо не. Nilly and Lisa save the day

Fun read. The story started with a robbery that got all the gold of Norway. So the king called the only persons he knew that could save the day, Nilly, Lisa and the Doctor Proctor.

Of course there are gadgets.

Like the way Lisa pack that is so different from Nilly.

And it is Nilly who thought of a way out of this, even if it is an impossible task.

There is a mitten that is trained to throw darts at target.

And shoes that chop wood.

It is so much fun. Must read for a kids who like books with a good sense of humor.

The Doctor Proctor’s Fart Powder series for kids, by Jo Nesbo. Currently, there are four books in the series. I read them in English translation by Aladdin Books, 2007-2012, illustrated by Mike Lowery.

The series includes:

Doctor Proctor’s Fart Powder
Bubbles in the Bathtub (Doctor Proctor’s Time Traveling Bathtub)
Who Cut the Cheese? (The End of the World, Maybe)
The Magical Fruit (The Great Gold Robbery)

It’s easy to tell what the schtick is with these books: as much potty humor as can be stuffed into a kids’ series without going over the line. Well, mostly without going over the line. There are lots of scenes in the sewers, baboons (just think of their rears), and always the appearance of the fart powder. In other words, these books are meant for boys and Nesbo has his finger on the pulse of boys’ humor.

They are Norwegian, as Nesbo is Norwegian, and are translations of the original (which is why they have alternate titles). And by Norwegian, I mean they very strongly give a sense of place and of Norway. You never wonder where you are. They are constantly tongue-in-cheek, with some outright humor and lots of punny references to real things (like the Rotten Ham football team or Madame Tourette’s Wax Museum). Nilly (a diminutive red-head), Lisa, and the wacky inventor Doctor Proctor live in the three primary-colored houses at the end of Cannon Avenue, and they form a relationship the begins over the failed fart powder. The first book is mostly about more simple things, like school bullies an an anaconda that lives under Oslo, but the rest of the books move further afield into outrageous adventures through time, throughout Europe, in dealing with aliens, and eventually make them king-appointed spies.

Jo Nesbo did not begin as a children’s author. He was already a best-selling author–the best in Norway, actually–with crime novels translated into forty languages, before he started Doctor Proctor. He is known for the Harry Hole series and several of his books are coming into movie and TV syndication in the near future.

As for Fart Powder, I have really mixed feelings. For one, my reading of the series was so not a normal reading. I read them out loud to my kids and it therefore took us forever. Also, I sometimes missed bits when Dad or Aunt or Grandma read to the kids. But not much. Second and third, the series is a very middling type; middle of great and not-so-great (quality-wise), and middle of inappropriate and appropriate. There were times when I thought, “We are so over this,” and considered putting the series down. There were other times when I just wanted to keep Nilly around. Maybe adopt him.

THE MAGICAL FRUITAt its best, the series is sparkling and surprising magic realism, a place to go away and make no assumptions, to believe in moon chameleons and balancing shoes, and to giggle about farts, butts, and nudity. At its worst, it steps over the line–or at least my line–and I found myself verbally editing out words and phrases and reminding myself that my kids can’t actually read this by themselves until they are older. I mean, Yodolf Stahler (play on Adolph Hitler)? And the occasional cuss word? And a few creatures and situations that are sincerely terrifying to children? Etc.

I also had to struggle with letting my kids read potty humor, at all. Honest to goodness, it’s not that I mind it, it’s just that society does. How can I explain to Eamon that he must stop saying “butt” in school (after yet another note) when we’re laughing away at it, at home? It’s sticky. You want them to enjoy, but you don’t love society rejecting them, telling them they are bad, or creating these sorts of conundrums. Just walk up and say “Fart!” to an elderly person and see what happens.

Not to mention the violence. Along with the fantastic situations (orbiting the Earth with the help of flatulence, traveling through time in a bath tub), come the fantastic negative situations, like being eaten by a giant anaconda, grilled alive on a giant waffle maker, etc. At one point, my kids asked me to discontinue because one of them was scared, but when I kept reading the book silently, they returned.

Also, I hate when books are falsely long. I mentioned this in my Sisters Grimm review. Proctor (at least the Aladdin version) contains giant spaces between the words and massive margins, I can only imagine because the publisher was trying to reincarnate Harry Potter. It’s obnoxious.

And one more hurdle: Nesbo has a very distinctive writing style (at least in these books) that can make reading him difficult. He is in love with the run-on sentence. He is also very fond of making his characters stutter in dialogue. The first thing I found mostly charming, the second annoyed me so much I edited it out after awhile. As far as his language goes (in translation, at least), it is at its best playful, at its worst, distracting or–heaven forbid–mediocre.

This whole review reminds me, though, of what could be said about Roald Dahl and his books (Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, The Witches, James and the Giant Peach, The BFG, etc.). I love Roald Dahl. And yet, he is everything bad that could be said about Nesbo (crass, violent, scary) except for distracting. His writing is superb and much cleaner than Nesbo’s (or my own, for that matter). In fact, Nesbo’s books definitely have a very Dahl feel to them, which has often been imitated but very seldom replicated. I really enjoy the Mister Magorium’s Wonder Emporium mood, and I think plenty of other readers do, too. It’s an approach to writing and reading that embraces fantasy and suspension of reality, where anything goes, and the more coveted, the better (and we’re talking childhood fantasies here, like a chocolate factory with tiny people whipping the cows, or neighbors that are secretly witches).

So, in the end, I can’t really condemn Nesbo for working toward–at times–the darker side of childhood while also making their desires come alive on the page. I ended up most invested in Nilly, and found many of the other characters flat. (I never could completely picture Doctor Proctor or Juliette Margarine in my head.) But they were fun. And I snickered and chortled with the best of them at all the physical humor. Plus, the fourth book ended up being the best. So, there’s that to look forward to.

There was a movie released in March, in Norway, in Norwegian. Too bad, because it looks pretty good and quite true to the spirit of the series. Perhaps they will subtitle (which leaves the problem of kids and subtitles) or remake it. I detest dubs unless they are a particular type of animation. It is not currently available to us English-speakers.

En regntung Oslo-natt, borer noen seg inn i Norges Bank med en veldig stor boremaskin. De stjeler hele Norges gullbeholdning - En gullbar. Hvorfor bare en, spør du? Vel ... Etter krigen spiste nordmennene så mye godteri, at tannlegene måtte ta gull fra statskassa. Uansett. Hans Majestets Hemmelige Gardister, eller Secret Garden, kontakter Lise, Proktor, og Bulle, og sender dem ned til London for å få tilbake gullbaren.

Da jeg først leste "Doktor Proktors Prompepulver", fløy alle ordspillene over hodet på meg, så sant skal sies at det var en fornøyelse å lese denne boken. Ibranaldovez, for eksempel, som er verdens peste fotballspiller. Boken har korte kapitler og helt åkei illustrasjoner (jeg kunne antakeligvis ha tegnet dem for frihånd, men nå er det jo slik moderne kunst skal være) og egner seg godt som en av de bøkene du leser med en unge, i og med at handlingen utspiller seg fort, og er lett å følge med på. Fem av fem, for man kan ikke egentlig ønske seg noe mer i en barnebok.

Saya sudah membaca beberapa buku Jo Nesbo, terutama seri detektif Harry Hole dan menyukai gayanya yang menampilkan orang-orang underdog sebagai tokoh utama. Jadi, ketika saya melihat buku anak-anak karya Jo Nesbo dalam sebuah pameran buku, tanpa pikir panjang saya langsung membelinya.

Cerita ternyata seru, tentang seorang penemu dengan penemuan yang aneh-aneh, ditemani anak-anak yang tidak terlalu populer di lingkungannya. Sebuah gaya yang tidak berubah dari seri Harry Hole, lagipula anak-anak populer tidak akan punya waktu ikut petualangan aneh Dokter Proctor. Nesbøn lastenkirjat ovat todella mainioita. Vauhtia, jännitystä ja hullua huumoria ei puutu. Tällä kertaa Tohtori Proktori, Älli ja Liisi kutsutaan selvittämään kultaryöstöä ja palauttamaan kulta Norjalle.

Tämä ei ehkä ollut paras Tohtori Proktori, vähän liikaa selittelyä, vaikka toimintaakin kyllä on. Jalkapallo ei kuulu omiin kiinnostuksen kohteisiini, toisin kuin Nesbøn itsensä, eikä siihen liittyvät säännöt ja terminologia oikein ole tuttuja.

Ihmettelin, miksi lastenkirjassa puhutaan oopiumista, alkoholista ja sikarien polttelusta. Norjan kuningas vaikutti olevan melkoinen sauhuttelija. Jalkapallo-ottelussa voidaan käyttää vippaskonsteja.

Tuntuu melkein, että nämä ovatkin enemmän aikuisille suunnattuja kirjoja.

If anything, the adventures of Dr.P., Nilly, and Lisa, just keep getting more fun. This is the fourth that I have read, and I loved ever word of it. The bad jokes/puns just keep coming, and one tends to giggle all the way through. But before reading about what happens to the Norwegian Gold Reserve and how this affects the world of professional soccer, be sure to read the previous stories first. If you have any memory of how fun it is just be childishly silly, you will love every moment of your read. [if you have lost all recollection of those years, read Dr. Proctor, and you will remember!]

Me pareció un libro chulo, estoy acostumbrada a un Jo Nesbo más oscuro y me pareció muy tierno leerlo en un cuento infantil, tiene un humor muy sano, muy infantil, muy lindo, reí varias veces a lo largo del libro, me encantó cuando tapón se hace pasar por jugador de fútbol y su nombre es “Andresherlo Iniesta Ramos”.

Mi personaje preferido es:
“tapón”

Sí lo recomiendo pero más que a ustedes, a sus hijos, es gracioso, toca el tema “pedos” con sutileza, sin ser vulgar, es simpático.

I read this book with my 10-year-old son. He thought it was hilarious! The first chapter really captivated our interest. The next few chapters slowed way down, eventually picking up again. As a teacher, I would consider having this book in the fiction section of my classroom library and possibly recommend it particularly to the boys in the class that like soccer, since the climactic ending revolves around a soccer game and uses quite a bit of soccer jargon.

Jos jedna iznimno simpaticna prica. Nesbø ovim serijalom samo jos dodatno dokazuje svoju svestranost. Ovdje mi se posebno svidjela zavrsnica i ta suluda nogometna utakmica koja se odigrala s nevjerojatnim dogadajima. Super je i sto je ostala sumnja glede toga jesu li na kraju uspjeli zamijeniti trofej ili ne. Mrva je ovdje definitivno imao najvecu ulogu tokom cijele epizode, ali Lisa je ta koja je rijesila utakmicu. Knjiga koja se brzo cita i donosi ogromnu zabavu.
