The seventh graders at Jefferson Middle School are superexcited to be going on their first-ever, overnight class trip to the famous Ravensburg Caverns. But what they don't know is that there are local rumors about the Ravensburg Caverns. Rumors that a group of kids one hundred years ago got trapped in the caves and never came out. Legend has it that if you listen closely, you can still hear the echoes of their cries. And unfortunately for best friends Kristi King and Olivia Pappas and a few of their friends, their fun trip away from home will take a turn for the worse when they stumble into the same trap only to discover that their worst nightmares have come alive . . .

This book is about a school that goes on an overnight field trip, not just any overnight felid trip, one to the "haunted caves". Olivia, Tim, Kristy, and Bobby all feel ready for the caves, but are they really? As they go on their tour if the caves they seem to go off path into a maze, "Its gonna be fun" is what they all think but when each passage leads to a different nightmare of the person going into the maze then maybe it isn't as fun as they thought it would be. I like this book because it is very creative and it is one of those books that makes you want to read more and more. I recommend this book to people who like to read books that are scary and different than usual.
4.5 🌟 it was really good for a creepy story. If I had been younger, I’d probably be scared to sleep in the dark right now. I personally hate creepy crawlers so I felt icky while reading that part, same as I hated clowns.
This was a really nice book. Let me first tell you the good things:
1. Scary past story for the caves (creeped me out). 2. Scary motel close to the caves (things happening even there). 3. That souvenir shop gave me the heebie-jeebies, especially when they got those gift bags and each of them got their worst fears in a bag. 4. The characters (at least for a bit), they were fun, interesting and I was hoping for certain events to happen. 5. The maze part and the truth about it. I was just shivering the whole time when they went through the part of the maze with clowns (Nooooooooo), mots (urggghhhhh). 6. The whole setting was awesome. I wish there would be more creepy caves stories.
Now what I didn't like:
1. The characters when they went into the caves. There is clearly a big sign of no-no, don't enter and yet... they enter. Stating that because there must be lights, it must be safe. *snort* 2. The ending. It was horrendous. We finally have characters like that and then you do that? No, just no. That is just horrendous. I was all hoping for a certain ending, only to get a no-ending.
Well that is all, as you can see I mostly liked the book. :)
I would recommend it to everyone who needs a creepy book and doesn't mind a bad ending.
I gave this one a 5 star rating because it really creeped me out.
Lesson learned, never read about a cave in the dark! I watched a movie once, and can not remember the name, where 7 friends went on a cave exploration and ran into some monsters who killed them off one by one with the exception of the last 2. The whole time I read this book all I kept thinking about was that movie. Not a good movie to see when A. You're afraid of the dark and B. You're claustrophobic.
Either way, this is one of the best written books in the series and I enjoyed every minute of it's creepiness. :)
This was one of the creepiest of these that I've read! PLUS the ending?!?! There was an actual LITEREAL cliffhanger. This is one of the few where there wasn't an epilogue with a further explanation and I loved it.
Nice for a little thrill. I could relate to the cave setting from visiting a tourist cave. The feelings of personal fears and how they can have a hold on a person is very realistic and symbolic at the end.
I don't know about this. I don't think this was enough for me to be honest. I expected it to be scarier since it was rated a 5 on the Creep-o-Meter. Oh, and Bobby deserved better :(
This book, while just slightly over predictable was SCARY! Pj Night nicely uses foreshadowing technics, along with using common fears. At the beginning of the book, we get a slight insight on what will happen later on as well as what the characters main fears were. She beautifully plays on fears that are easily relatable such as clowns, moths, heights, and fire. Roughly the center of the book we get to see the story from other characters point of view. I could truly relate to the character Tim and his fear of fire, having a similar experience myself, the author had me crying from fear while she wrote (very detailed I say) of his childhood toy being taken by flames. This book is truly frightening, not just with the ominous paranormal sense looming in the background but with the reality of the fears. This book honestly scared me.
Fans of R.L. Stine will surely love books by P. J. Night. I found myself entranced by each of the characters. We learned about each of the characters before the mystery began to unfold. I do not believe that kids will find this story predictable or boring. There is a mixture of male and female characters that make the book appropriate for any gender. The story itself was very well written and easy to follow along with and get engrossed into. I am looking forward to reading more books by P. J. Night.
This one book definitely creeped me out. Full of irony too. I hate heights and can't stand clowns. I wish it had a more resolved ending but it was a good story.
Do you want to be scared? What is your worst fear? This book seems to play up to the worst fears of the four main characters, seventh graders, who are on a field trip to a cavern.
I finished this in a night. I wanted to have a small light reading kinda thing and this book was the one. It was not that scary tbh but I enjoyed it. Yay
