In the Elfin world, magic and destiny determine who will be together. "Chosen" pairs are fated to meet at the age of 18. Keegan, however, is an anomaly. Having fallen in the battle between the Light and the Dark, she is only alive now due to Black Magic, and her bond with her Chosen is broken. She cannot remember Rourk at all. For the first time, she feels like a normal teenager. She is dating Donald, her long-time crush, and everything seems perfect. But Rourk still feels their bond, and despairs for the woman he was always meant to love. Keegan’s best friend Anna is determined to find a way to use her powers to return Keegan’s bond, no matter what it takes. The question is does Keegan even want it?
Julia crane is the author of the Keegan’s Chronicles, IFICS. She has a bachelors degree in criminal justice. Julia has believed in magical creatures since the day her grandmother first told her an Irish tale. Growing up her mother greatly encouraged reading and using your imagination.
“This is not a laughing matter. Keegan every time I see you I feel like I am on an elevator that has dropped. I think about you all the time. Maybe fate has stepped in and broken the bond so we can be together..”
Conflicted the second novel of Keegan’s Chronicles was everything I wanted it to be, and oh so much more. Julia Crane is indeed a talented author that knows how to keep her readers attention, with her on the edge of your seat reads!
Conflicted picks up where Coexist left off, Keegan died..but was brought back to life with dark magic. Everyone is so happy that Keegan is alive, but since she was brought back with dark magic she herself is now darker..and worst her bond with Rourke has been broken. Keegan doesn’t know what to do..she wants her bond back with Rourke at first, but when she finds out her long time crush Donald has been crushing on her from afar she can’t help, but fall for him. Now secretly her brother is putting together a plan to get Keegan’s bond back with Rourke…but will Keegan want it back now that she has Donald?
This book was even better than the first! In the beginning of Conflicted all I could think about was how heartbroken I was that Rourke and Keegan’s bond had been broken, Rourke was so hurt and wanted Keegan back SO badly, but as time went on I really started to feel for Donald and Keegan’s relationship! I still think Keegan being with Rourke is how it should end and that they are truly meant for each other, but at the same time Donald is not at all a bad guy! I think Julia adding such a development with Donald and Keegan was a great touch to the story and deff put me on the edge of my seat! Readers will have their hearts torn in two over this love triangle! (I personally am team Rourke (;)
Besides Keegan and Rourke’s bond being broken after her coming back to life, Keegan is also darker now. In Coexist Keegan was such a sweet and fun girl, in Conflicted she still is, but now things are happening when she gets angry, things she can’t control. All I can say is I hope for Keegan’s sake that she gets her darker side under control before something really bad happens. I don’t know what’s going to happen in book three, but let’s hope Julia (author) decides to help Keegan out!
The ending threw me by surprise! I still to this day have no idea how I feel about it…I want to say I am happy about it..but at the same time it left Keegan so upset and hurt that I feel bad being happy about it! I just can’t wait to see where things go in book three!
All in all, if you loved Coexist, expect to be completely blown away by Conflicted!
This book was a little bit better than the first one since I was more into it. After being shot in the heart with an arrow in battle and brought back to life with dark magic, Keegan can no longer remember who her Chosen is. Rourk is heartbroken when he realized that she no longer even remembered who he was and the short time they spent together before the war. He tried to take her on a date but it was too awkward. He loved her with all his heart and she thought he was merely ‘cute’. It didn’t work out so he decides to give her the space she needs and signs up for the human military. He sees it as they weren’t even supposed to meet so early, so he would be able to wait until she turns eighteen to see if the bond will return.
Keegan, on the other hand, is into Donald, a shape shifter. She was looking out for him before she died and when she was brought back, she had a strange attraction to him. During the year Rourk was away, Keegan and Donald dated. Donald had told Keegan that he loves her but Keegan wasn’t able to say it back.
Only when Rourk returns on Keegans eighteenth birthday and gives her his mothers ring was when their bond returned – with a little help of magic as well. Keegan falls back in love with Rourk but her heart feels bad for what she did to Donald. I won’t tell you how it ends. I need to finish this series because I am starting to get sick of them.
Keegan is an elf. Elves meet their mate, called “chosen,” when they turn 18. Ever since Keegan was brought back to life by black magic, her bond to her chosen has been broken. This is very disturbing to Rourk, who has patiently waited for Keegan to turn 18, so they can begin their life together. Because of Keegan’s brother, Thaddeus and his gift, she knew who her chosen was and they actually met before they were supposed to. This was all before the Great War between the light and dark elves.
During that war, Keegan found out that many of her friends are magical creatures. She corners her two best friends, Anna and Lauren at school and asks them about it. When Donald, a tiger, finds out that her bond to her chosen is broken, he is happy because he has always liked Keegan. He asks her out and they begin a relationship as he now stands a chance and doesn’t have to worry about her choosing someone else when she turns 18. This does not make Rourk happy. He leaves to join the army to give Keegan time to adjust before her 18th birthday.
Anna has always been jealous of elves and that they find their soul mate so easily. She feels terrible that Keegan’s bond to her chosen has been broken. The fact that it was her mother who performed the black magic that made this happen makes it even worse. She is sure that there is something she can do as a witch to reverse this. While Keegan and Donald get closer and Rourk endures basic training in the Army, Anna is busy searching for something she can do to help Keegan.
Again, Crane has surpassed my expectations in her writing. I must say that I love the Keegan’s Chronicles. I started to read this book with the intention of just reading a little before I went to bed. I should’ve known better as I couldn’t go to sleep until I finished the book. I love the characters in this series and cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out.
I Like: ▪ The notion that elves meet their chosen mate when they turn 18. Also that the bond felt between them is so strong.
▪ Rourk. Even though it makes him miserable, he makes choices that are good for Keegan. Her gives her the time and space she needs to enjoy her senior year of high school.
▪ How loyal Anna and Lauren are to Keegan. They want her to be happy throughout all of this.
▪ Thaddeus. I have said before how I like his character. He is a good little brother who has a lot of stress and responsibility on his shoulders. I will definitely have to read his story. This book reminded me of how much I like him.
▪ Calvron and his world. I’m not going to say any more on him because I don’t want to spoil it for you.
▪ Donald. He is the underdog in this story.
▪ Rourk. I have always liked his character also. He is a good elf who would be a good mate to anyone.
I Did Not Like: ▪ The fact that Keegan lost her bond to Rourk and he is miserable because of it. Rourk deserves to be happy.
▪ How Keegan gets over losing her bond so quickly as if it didn’t matter. I sometimes forget the ages of characters until they do something that will remind me that yes, she is only 17.
Along with losing her bond to her chosen, Keegan lost all of her maturity, and apparently her vegetarianism when she came back in the last book. What up wit dat?
So, yeah, Keegan is a spoiled, bratty, self-absorbed carnivore now who could care less about the guy that she was professing her undying love for last week. Sucks to be him. She has her eye on tiger-boy now, and frankly, it's hard to think that she is deserving of the awesome Rourk at this point.
Rourk is everything that Keegan is not: mature, self-sacrificing, disciplined, caring for others, honorable, and faithful. He joins the army to give Keegan space. Does she write to him, knowing perfectly well that he is heartbroken over her and their lost bond? No! She just dates the tiger and doesn't give a crap about the person whom she knows that she had loved. What a piece of work!
I really hope that somehow Rourk kicks her to the curb in the next book. That is really the only thing I want to see happen. And then I will be satisfied.
I am so sad! I really enjoyed the first book in this series, so what happened you ask? Well, I have to say that the characters were just very immature (17 going on 18) they were constantly acting like 5 year olds. Also, the writing went downhill for me, it seemed to drag out in places then fly through what could have been some really great parts. I totally love the basis for this series and while I had to make myself finish this one I will read the next because I really want to see what happens to everyone and see if anything has changed.
Fans of Book 1, "Coexist", know that Crane left us with a cliffhanger of an ending. In "Conflicted" the story continues where it left off and takes the reader's heart along for a wild ride. "Conflicted" is heartfelt and tense from beginning to end with the characteristic teenage drama and love we've come to associate with Crane's name. Fans of "Coexist" will NOT be let down by this second novel and for anyone who hasn't read the first - go now! Then come back and gobble up this one :)
Julia Crane did not disappoint in book 2 of her series, Keegan's Chronicles. This is an amazing book for both teens and adults. The characters are well developed and their relationships with each other are very real. We get to learn more about Anna in this book, which I love. Once again, I was hooked and couldn't put the book down. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and I can't wait for the 3rd book to come out!
Conflicted is the continuing story in the Keegan Chronicles, and I really enjoyed the character development in this one. It was great to see the characters shift and transform, and I could picture how everyone looked in my head while I read it. There was a cliffhanger aspect that carried over from the first novel to this one, and Julia did an excellent job of keeping the reader guessing until the end. I really enjoyed this book, and I look forward to more novels from this talented writer!
So, conflicted is a perfect title!!! I feel so CONFLICTED!! I loved Keegan in the first book, but with her "changes" I'm not sure I liked her now. I loved rourke in the first book, but really liked Donald in this one! I am still team rourke but now I kinda feel guilty about it :) I am now hooked with that cliff hanger to get book 3 in December
Keegan and Rourk have lost their bond. I felt so bad for him! And I hated Keegan's attitude. Then I realized that would be how most teenage girls would act/react. Selfish and still dependent on their mothers, no matter how independent they want to be. I really enjoyed how her brother and friends were willing to help restore what was lost. Good character forming.
I'm not sure if the writing was a slightly bit better, or the first installment just made me dumber, but yeah, that's the feeling I got from it. Unfortunately, the plot was... literally non-existent in this one (seriously, do not make a romance series seem like it's supposed to have some sort of plot, it just backfires). So that's another two stars unfortunately.
Damn, Keegan is so annoying and I really want to slap her most of the time. She is so selfish and self absorbed and makes all teenage girls look like nightmares. The storyline is interesting with all the characters point of view and so it makes me want to keep reading. This book takes place over an entire year, but it's like nothing interesting at all happens .
Less grammatical issues than the first book, but there were still quite a few. I had a harder time staying connected to the characters in this book. The girls just seemed whiny and shallow, as did many of the relationships. The ending felt extremely rushed and the chapters felt very choppy.
this book was annoyingly good. it picks up right where the first book ended. you have to suffer through the agonizing separation of the lovers but the build up is worth it. o. to the next.
Review to come....It’s been a while since I read this book but I remember it pretty well. It was an amazing follow up to Coexist. The title fits it perfectly. What conflicts!
It continues right off the first book in the series, which I love. I hate to lose myself into a book that feels out of order. Keegan has survived her death, but being saved means she has lost so many things. She’s trapped between light and dark, which has changed her in unexpected ways. Her connection to her predestined mate, Rourk is severed, leaving him devastated and he can’t stand to know that she doesn’t feel the same about him anymore. It made my chest hurt to see him suffer so much. Instead of sticking around, he leaves to join the military and gets promoted fairly quickly. Having Elfin super traits helps.
Meanwhile, Keegan explores her crush on a long-time friend, Donald, and it’s all going well. That is, until her own best friends and family conspire to get her back with Rourk, one way or another.
Julia Crane paints out this magical world with ease and a reader can fall right into the flow of the story without trouble. We get to see a lot more of Keegan’s relationship with her family and her best friends Anna and Lauren. I loved seeing their backgrounds as we got an insight on their magic and what kind of stuff they can do too.
Thaddeus is one of my favorite characters and seems so mature for his youth. He’s definitely one to watch out for, powerful and witty.
Overall an excellent continuation of this magical story. I can’t wait to get to book 3 and see what happens to all these memorable characters.
Keegan, an elf, has been brought back from the dead. She was killed in the war where good elves fought against the dark elves. Her family and her chosen, Rourk, are grateful that Keegan’s back from the dead. Unfortunately, there are consequences when people use black magic. Keegan freezes people and objects when extremely upset…and the bond between her and Rourk is gone. Rourk is devastated because he can still feel the bond and it tortures him that Keegan is now interested in Donald. At first, Keegan wants her friend, Anna (a witch), to find a way to bring back the bond.
After a while, it seems that Keegan is content not to have a bond, but Anna’s still determined to get it back and gets help from Keegan’s younger brother, Thaddeus. As Keegan gets closer to Donald, the more Rourk suffers. Will Rourk regain the bond and Keegan before it’s too late?
In the first e-book, I liked Keegan for the most part, but Keegan seemed unfeeling and more of a brat in this one. I still loved this story, but I definitely felt so bad for Rourk. To know the person you were destined to be with who wants to be with someone else, is not easy to go through. I did feel somewhat torn because I liked Donald as a character. He was goofy and made Keegan happy. I’m definitely a Team Rourk fan though.
I skimmed through this book. Like whole chapters. Mainly cos nothing happened in them.
Just descriptions of people talking, teenagers shopping - nothing very exciting about the whole thing. Mind you, I would certainly enjoy descriptions of shopping as long as it is in the right type of book - something like Devil Loves Prada. Not in a supposedly 'paranormal' fantasy.
My main gripe with this book is that - there aint any much happening in terms of fantasy. Nor in terms of relationships.
Rourk and Keegan (whats wth gals in YA having all male-ish or neutral names!!!) are supposed to be bonded and totally in love but due to a freakish incident, the bond is broken.
Funnily enough, it broke in such a way as to create a triangle. I wish the author made enough sense so that the bond when it broke, allowed Rourk to be free as well. Instead the whole book is on Rourk's angst and Keegan's indecisiveness over 2 guys. Hmmmmm... sounds familiar, Twilight anyone????
Enough with such triangles please, where 2 hot guys almost lick the feet of the beautiful irresistible heroine whose character none can love!
Uuuummmmm....what?!?! How could Julia Crane do this to me? Emotional. Roller. Coaster. That is how I would describe this book. This was a very quick read for me because I could not put it down.
Best Part: I have to say it again....Rourk! I was #TeamRourk throughout this book. After Keegan lost her memory, I felt so bad for Rourk and he did the one thing that he knew to do: FIGHT! However, he did not fight the way that I thought he would. Instead, he left, to join the human army. He did this so that Keegan would have some time to herself before her 18th birthday and it was too hard to see her with Donald. The other part that I loved was Anna and Thaddeus. I loved that these two teams up to try and bring the bond back together for Keegan and Rourk.
Not so great part: I did not like to see Rourk suffering. Julia Crane did an amazing job of really showing what Rourk was going through. I really felt bad for him.
I really enjoyed Book 2. I cannot wait for Book 3.
This was a nice follow up to the first book, Coexist. But I feel unfulfilled. I still like the character of Keegan but unlike the first book, there were fewer in-depth viewpoints from fellow characters. Yes, you do get into a couple of heads but outside of lightweight fluttering about magic, clothing or love angst there doesn't seem to be much else. The characters seem obsessed with clothing. I wanted more. More story. More depth in all the characters. I wanted a better vacation in Italy! Seems we just got there and suddenly we are back at school. Did I miss something? How did the vacation add to the story? Also, the station of wealth of most of the characters, makes this book hard to relate to. At least for me.
All that pales with the thought and action that came for me at the end of the book: I went and got the next in the series and the short story about Keegan's brother, Thaddeus. So I am in for the count.
This book disappointed me on several levels. I was expecting to continue on a journey with Keegan and maybe explore some darkness as it was dark magic that brought her back after she died.
What I really got was an entire book of Keegan and Donald having a 'relationship' complete with trips etc. There wasn't a plot really and no depth to the book at all. It was simply a book about her being with someone other than her chosen. Time moves by quickly but the charactes never seem to grow. They stay the same the entire time. I would think over time they would learn, change and grow.
What I did like was getting to know Anna a little more. Her determination to get Rourk and Keegan's bond back was the only thing keeping me reading.
Rourk, I just felt bad for him. Seriously, it had to have killed him to see his chosen with another -
First of All, I love the cover! It's just so beautiful!
OK,so after the end of the first book I was so excited to know what happens next BUT unfortunately I was a little disappointed ...
This book didn't live up to the first one in the series and I felt like there isn't a real story behind the book just that the bond with Rourk is broken and now Keegan is dating Donald!
and what disappointed me more is that Keegan didn't have any real feelings for Rourk after the bond was broken,I mean it sounded like she could never love him and all that we experienced with them in the first book was just because of the magic and not real feelings! OK,so she doesn't remember him as her chosen BUT isn't she supposed to be at least attracted to him!I mean your chosen is supposed to be your perfect mach ... in everything! ... wouldn't that be even without the bond?!!
I've put so many hopes on this one ... BUT oh well,we'll see how book 3 turns out ...
With the lovely ending to bookie one this book takes off right where Coexist ended. Rourk be still my heart, "Embarrassed, Rourk answered," trying to figure out what to wear." It's good to know some men get nervous about a date just as much as women. Rourk is still smokin' with his good looks just as much if not more in this book, "his shirt was just tight enough to show off his defined chest. The sleeves looked a little snug, she tried not to stare as his muscled arms." I would stare I mean that's what he's there for right? Not to sure how I feel about Keegan and Donald I mean he's nice and all but Rourk has my heart has had it since we met him, so I'm probably biased and all team Rourk. I mean he knows how to kiss, "he groaned and tangled his hands in her hair. Their eyes met for an instant and she leaned in to kiss him again." Of course there was a cliffhanger, but luckily I got the trilogy book.
Excellent continuation to Coexist! Still as much fun and excitement as the last with a few surprises in store.
The bond between Keegan and Rourk is still broken. Keegan has since discovered a new power and has moved forward in her life. Prom, graduation, college and her relationship with Donald are everything that moves on in the book. Sadly Rourk has not been involved in any of it for he started his own path that he's dreamed of.
To keep his mind occupied for as long as possible Rourk joins the human military. He reaches his goal as planned, made a good friend and is waiting (impatiently) for Keegan's 18th birthday. He's hoping to not be refused on that day and that the bond will come back to them as strong as it once was.
Looking forward to the next in the series to see where everyone will end up :)
The storyline flowed seamlessly from book 1 to book 2. Through the war between the Light and Dark Keegan ends up paying the ultimate price and it must take Dark Magic in order to bring her back. But with that she pays with the loss of her bond with Rourk. With the bond being broke Keegan knows that Rourk is her mate but she doesn't have the same feelings anymore. So she starts dating Donald a shifter who has always been in love with Keegan. Everyone except for Donald wants the bond to be re-instated but not sure how or if it can be. The broken bond is only one sided Rourk still feels it. I know in my heart that Keegan belongs with Rourk I cant help but feel sorry for Donald because he has loved her forever. I would love to see him brought forward in a spin-off where he finds his true soul mate. I will continue to read more from this author.
This book was about how a girl Keegan tries to regain hr love for a guy named Rourk. But she ends up falling in love with her friend Donald he is a shape sifter and he is able to turn into a lion. Keegan's relation ship worked well with him but because he was a shape sifter her family and friends didnt think the relationship was going to work out. And Rourk is a elf like Keegan and they were already eaach others chosen but during the great war Keegan was going to go back to camp with her mother so when they were going back Keegan got shot in the heart and lost all feeling she had about Rourk. And that is why she fell in love with Donald sh ethiught he was nicer and cuter than Rourk. But her friend have their mothers take away the black magic that was used to bring her back to life and replaced with light powers. So her love for Rourk was back.
I became really invested in the characters! My heart broke for Roark at the end of the first book and just kept breaking throughout this one. Keegan and Donald were good friends and made a "nice" couple but she could be and feel so much more with Roark. I just wish she could see it!
I liked that Keegan had one more year with her friends. Sounded like the perfect Senior year with magical worlds to explore and best friends to make memories with. I'm also very proud of Roark. He grew up a lot and he followed his dreams while waiting for and respecting Keegan. Anna developing her powers and conspiring with Thad was fun to read about too!
I can't wait to read the last book! I'm really hoping for a happilly ever after with Roark and I'm glad I don't have to wait long to find out!!
