Keegan has dealt with a lot over the last two years: Death, black magic and the loss of her bond to her chosen mate. But on her eighteenth birthday, the bond with Rourk returns.
Rourk longs to be by her side. Though he knows the distance between them causes Keegan physical pain, he wants to give her the time she needs.
Now, Keegan faces her hardest decision. Tradition requires elves marry at eighteen. If she accepts the path laid out for her, she will be spared a lifetime of physical and emotional pain. But will that life ever really be her own
Julia crane is the author of the Keegan’s Chronicles, IFICS. She has a bachelors degree in criminal justice. Julia has believed in magical creatures since the day her grandmother first told her an Irish tale. Growing up her mother greatly encouraged reading and using your imagination.
Consumed, the last book in the amazing trilogy of Keegan’s Chronicles by Julia Crane..I was dreading you, not wanting to say goodbye to the characters I have learned to love. But Julia did not disappoint in this last installment. She gave her readers an ending they will love, and her characters an ending they more than deserved.
Consumed picks up right where Conflicted left us, Keegan and Rourke’s bond has been brought back! Keegan was dating Donald the whole time the bond was gone, she was very much happy with Donald, but now that the bond is back, she knows she can’t refuse Rourke or deny the instant connection she feels for him..she knows her relationship with Donald is no more. While mending her relationship with Rourke, Keegan is still having difficulties with the dark magic that runs through her veins, and because of this dark magic instead of just being in slight pain when Rourke is far away from her, she is in agonizing pain..elves by tradition are supposed to get married once they turn 18..If she accepts the path laid out for her, she will be spared of physical and emotional pain, but will that life ever really be her own?
I was so nervous going into Consumed, even though I knew Julia would provide me with an amazing story, I was immensely afraid of not getting the ending I hoped for. Thank goodness though that Julia gave me exactly what I wanted and more! Consumed provided the perfect ending for what has been an amazing series.
Not only did Consumed end beautifully for Keegan our main character, it also ended beautifully for other characters I learned to love Donald, Thaddeus, Anna, Lauren, Tommy and a few others, so seeing them happy in the end also? Mad ME happy! I especially loved the added relationship of Anna and Tommy, I always felt bad for Tommy and Anna, and always loved each of them as characters, they were both funny, and very caring friends, Julia putting them together made my heart all warm and fuzzy with happiness for them!
Not only did this book fill me with happiness over the ending, it also made me insanely happy to see a lot of the characters grow, especially Keegan. At the end of Consumed I felt she had changed a lot from the beginning of the series, and even just from the beginning of Consumed, this may sounds cheesy, but I feel she was really shaping into a nice young lady at the end of Consumed compared to being a girl/kid/teen.
Overall this series has been such an enjoyable one, it’s sad to think it is already over, but even though I am sad this series is over, I am so happy I got to read it. Julia’s Keegan’s Chronicles series is one that should be enjoyed by everyone. Goodbye Keegean, Rourke, Anna, Tommy, Thaddeus and Donald, you will be missed! <3
Disappointing. The big ending to the whole series? Nothing we didn't expect. And, that is the problem with this series. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never really did. The biggest crisis points in this book were so easily solved that they didn't get as much attention, or cause as much drama, as Keegan picking out a dress. And, believe me, we got to read every detail about what Keegan wore at all times.
The biggest problem is that Keegan had started to show development and maturity by the end of the first book. She was a vegetarian and, after being around Rourk, and helping in the battle, she had become less self-centered and materialistic. But, since she couldn't remember Rourk, she suddenly seemed to have forgotten the person she had become as well , which made no sense. So, in the second book, we get a selfish little spoiled brat who loves bacon and shopping. Why the regression? But, she doesn't care, because she is happy with Donald.
So, when the bond comes back, does she go back to being a better person, and a vegetarian, again? No. She is still a bratty child that Rourk now coddles.
What really needed to happen, and I was hoping for, was for Keegan to experience some true hardship or loss in this third book. Reality is that people don't live these charmed lives. And, the kind of spoiled, entitled, materialistic girls like this in real life don't have some guy magically bonded to them to make them put up with living with a spoiled child as his wife. I wanted to see Keegan grow, and the only way that was going to happen was if she didn't have everything go her way for a change. I wish the book had gone there.
In one part of the story, Keegan meets up with her old friends and they are all talking about the new friends they have made in college. She wonders why she hasn't made any new friends at her college. Hmmmmm..... I wonder why? Could it be because Keegan was an awful person? It's funny that the author included that little nugget, and yet never did anything to make Keegan more likable.
Ehhhh... tons of errors (I seriously should be a book editor when I grow up). The story felt choppy, much like the last one. There were hints of emotional ties to the characters, but for the most part I felt very detached.
This series has been such a heart-wretching, touching, and action packed from first book to this book. I never want to lose these characters and would like to see more of these books even as spin offs utilizing the other characters brought to the front as the main character instead of supporting characters. I ultimately want to see happy endings for all of the characters. Although their bond is back Rourk wants Keegan to come to him out of love not because it is elfin destiny. He has choosen her as his mate for life but she has to want that. Through the series you can see how each character has grown into their own and strengthened their bonds as friends. This has been a wonderful series to read and will continue to follow this author in the future.
My favorite part: Apartment hunting... Folks show up to look at a place and are asked if they want to see an apartment or a cottage. The cottages are behind the apartment building, and they go back quite a way. They walk 10 minutes back into a secluded corner of the property where they can hear a waterfall in the distance. The cottage is *perfect,* they can afford it on a brand new solder-in-training's paycheck, they can sign the lease right then and have the keys that very day. They end up finding the waterfall later, after about an hour hike...even though they could hear it at the cottage.... And oh! Did I mention that they are in Seattle? Hahaha! Affordable secluded waterfall property in Seattle! Yes! Where do I sign up?
I'm so happy I stumbled upon this series. Consumed was the perfect ending to a great series and I love how although there was conflict it didn't take over the whole story. I'm so sick of reading book after book only to find that the heroine is about to be kidnapped, or that there is some crazy deranged killer after her OR that their powers could destroy the world. It was a welcome breath of fresh air to read a story that had the necessary ups and downs but not overly done. I loved every second of it and the ending was perfect, not to much not to little this book was seriously a perfect balance for everything right.
I think this story line had potential but I felt like I was floating above it. I liked the characters just give me more dept or action. I like Rourke and Tommy's friendship. I also like what happens with Tommy and Anna. I think Thaddeus could be a series on his own about his struggles with his visions and being a warrior.
This book went by way to fast for me and was very lovey-dovey. I did enjoy a happy ending AND that Rourk was such a gentleman. Far too many stories have people with loose morals in them. I would have loved to have more of Tommy and Anna though. Or Lauren and her dark fairy.
I had to skim the last half it was so dang boring. Nothing dangerous or exciting happens in this book. The bond is back between Keegan and Roark and they are happy and move in together and get married and that's it. No villains, no struggle, nothing. This series had potential to be super interesting with all the different species and powers and the author just entirely failed.
I really liked the whole world and the characters. The romance is beautiful, but I feel like there was no real plot. It just feels like a long distance romance without a story really. I would have wanted the plot of the war to continue on until the end of the trilogy.
Consumed picks up exactly where Conflicted left off. Keegan`s birthday and an entire whirl wind of emotion. She was happy with the way things were going, her bond gone and her relationship with Donald. Rourk comes back for her birthday and with a ring brings their bond back. In the process this breaks Donalds heart and infurates Keegan. She can`t deny her bond with Rourk and the feeling of being complete but she never wanted to hurt Donald like that. However like the Keegan I have grown to know she accepts what is going on and keeps moving.
What she didn`t realize was that the dark magic that was running through her would complicate things in the bond. What should be a little pain when she is apart from her chosen is a killer can`t survive type pain. Keegan wants to finish her schooling in Alaska but is that close enough to Rourk? Will she stand her ground about no marrage until after school of will all that's happening make her take a step off her own beaten path. This is the question that we all want to know when it comes to her and Rourke.
Keegan for the most part is a really loving and loyal girl that has a bit of a temper. She hasn't changed at all in this book. Her bond is back and although it doesn't seem like that's what she wants she falls right back into an easy and loving relationship with Rourk. I hadn't expected it to be quite as easy as it was. Knowing how she had felt about Donald I was upset to see that she could just let everyone off the hook so easy. Understandably an Elf's bond with their chosen is something that they can't really fight but I expected some sort of rebellious act from her.
This book really gave us what we wanted I think. If you read the first two you know that there is so much love between Elves that itès bound to be the kind of romance that makes us all swoon a little over Rourke. I do however wish there had been a little more action. I kept waiting for that dramatic hold and it never came. Don't get me wrong I loved this book and all of the characters in it but from the other two books I expected something more. I for the most part enjoyed the ending but still want to know a little more about other characters!!
This book starts just where the second book left off. Anna and Keegan’s brother, Thaddeus, worked together to get Keegan’s bond back with Rourk. Keegan and her friends are at her birthday party, and Donald, Keegan’s boyfriend, witnessed the whole thing.
Keegan catches up with Donald to try to console him, but she is happy that her bond is back. Her friendship with Donald is strained, and he withdraws from his friends. Keegan tries to make up lost time with Rourk, but decides she wants to wait on handfasting and marriage. The black magic that brought her back to life during the war in the beginning of the series continues to affect Keegan. When separated from Rourk, she experiences an intense pain that’s abnormal from chosens. Will she be able to get through to Donald and marry Rourk?
I’m sad to be at the end of this series. I thought this series was unique from the YA stories that are out today. I loved that this series involved elves, fairies, etc. I still think Keegan can be self-absorbed, but she did try to make Donald feel better and still cared about him. Rourk is still awesome as ever, and I’m glad that he was able to get the bond back.
I did feel bad for Donald, though. I couldn’t stand how poorly he took the bond returning. I have become attached to Keegan and Rourk. I’m glad that they will be a part of the spin-off series. I can’t wait to see what happens in the spin-off series that’s about Anna. She needs to find love, too!
This is basically my review for the whole trilogy.
While I enjoyed this series and read the whole thing in 3 days ... one day per book it was not because the book was well written or terribly interesting. I found the writing and plot incredibly juvenile which is partly how I got through them so fast even though I work 9-5 and have to lesson plan at night. The characters were cookie cutter YA fare which I am used to so it neither detracted nor added to the books however it meant I didn't really care about any of them by the end of the last book. The lore was interesting enough and I like the mythology and how it adhered to more traditional stories and not some of the new adaptations we find. However the bond irritated me beyond belief. It was a crutch that Crane used to bypass any emotional and relationship growth. The instant lust and schoolgirl crush was so sugar sweet I frequently found myself rolling my eyes at Keegan. The first book was interesting but the second and third books didn't need to exist and did nothing for the series, if anything it made me dislike Keegan more as time went on. I doubt I will re-read these books again unless I'm in the mood for a quick, super light read.
I would like to add I only finished these books and the series to keep on track with my year-long goal of 100 books if I didn't mind having to start a new book halfway through I would have dropped the second book pretty fast.
Out of all the trilogy books this would happened to be my favorite, maybe it's because Rourk and Keegan are I don't spending A LOT of time together. I understand how Keegan is confused, "I don't know, mom. It's all so sudden I just broke Donald's heart. I barely know Rourk, but I'm so drawn to him I can't do anything but be with him." Girl I would totally just forget all that stuff and be like YAY HE'S MY MAN, but that's just me. Rourk is like every girl's dream he just wants Keegan to be happy and will go along with whatever she wants, "whatever you want is fine with me. As fas as I'm concerned, we are bonded and that's enough." Keegan's thoughts are seriously just funny in this book I loved being in her head, "is today the day I lose my virginity?...She certainly hoped so! Rourk seems to know what to always say to make Keegan happy, "Keegan, I am honored to be your chosen. I will spend the rest of my life trying to be the best husband possible." Really pleased with the ending.
Could Rourk and Keegan finally be together? Oh I hoped for this the moment I opened it up on my Kindle
Best Part: You think I am going to say Rourk again, don't ya? HA...you are right! Rourk did win his Chosen One, Keegan back. I was so happy about this. I loved Rourk so much more throughout this book because of everything that he did for Keegan. I also loved that he stuck to the Elfin tradition. I liked that Julia Crane entwined the characters from the series in this book.
Not so great part: Some parts of the book seemed rushed. I understand the purpose it but I wish there was more interaction with Donald, Rourk and Keegan. However, even with that the book was great.
I felt there were unanswered questions at the end, though I do love a happy ending. I was relieved when Rourk finally got his chosen back.
Keegan really tries to grow up in this last installment though I still felt she wasn't mature in many ways. It lacked suspense and action. The entire thing was details on her planning a wedding. Again with it being rushed and time flying by. No real depth and same as book two lack of a plot.
In short I think the whole series would have been better had they been ONE book and rearranged where book two and three happen in the middle of book one and ended with an epic battle. I would have cut so much of the boring text in two and three and polished it ALL up as one book. The ideas were there......execution not so much.
I LOVED this book! Keegan really matured and grew up a lot! She decided to combine her passions and change her major. She's making her own way in the world with Roark by her side and I couldn't be happier! Thank God my heart finally stopped breaking for Roark! It was wonderful to see their bond return! He's the perfect gentleman! He's understanding, respectful, loyal, and passionate!!! Keegan really lucked out!
The descriptions in this book were incredibly vivid! I felt like I was there in the house they chose and a guest at their beautiful wedding!
I'm so happy with this book. I'm very glad that Keegan and Roark have their happily ever after and I cannot wait to read more about Anna and Lauren! You've got a big fan in me Ms. Crane!!!
I never gave a book 1 star on goodreads but there is a first time for everything. This book, I have read bad book, but this one tops it all: form the BORING love triangle, the badly written chapters and POVs to the author's miserable knowledge of geography. In this book, the main character (who is so dense, blank and boring that i didn't even bother to remember her name) goes on a cruise. This cruise is on the Adriatic sea, now there are many countries who own a part of the sea, my country is one of them and it's called Croatia. The author wrote that Croatia is a TOWN. Now, I know that it might sound like my opinion is biased because the author didn't bother with research but let me assure you that this was just the bad icing on a even worse cake.
This is the third and final book in the Keegan's Chronicles series. Again, as with the second book in the series, it is slow-paced but the story is enjoyable, especially for those who are suckers for a happily ever after ending (like me). It is very light reading so if you are looking for something intricately woven (like a Terry Brooks' book) you will be disappoint4ed. However, if you are looking for a light and entertaining story filled with magical creatures (elves, fairies, shape shifters, etc.), then you will probably enjoy this book. I gave it four stars just because of the happy ending.
Final book in the series. I got the first book through Pixel of Ink. Not knowing thus was a 3 book series. They have now started alerting you to this fact!
In this final book, Keegan has to decide her own fate. She is turning 18. Tradition is she marries at 18 to her protector. But she has lost memory of their love and bond. Now she has to start all over again. She is struggling with finding that love the old fashioned way. No magic is helping recreate that bond.
This was an ok series. I wouldn't have originally gotten it if I knew it was a 3 book series. Plus, it's more a teen book. In all it was good, not great. But in 40 not 16!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Oh so much has happened throughout the series and it continued to be consistent in its greatness through and through. Great end to a great series!
Keegan, Rourk and the crew have all matured a great deal. Many changes have occurred and new ones will be made. Some have found extreme happiness and some are experiencing great pain. But the most important of all is that the bond between Keegan and Rourk continues to bloom and prosper!
Such a very satisfying series for both YA and adults to enjoy :)
