I have always been a huge reader of action and thriller novels.

But as a keen shooter and martial artist, I thought I could write more realistic books!

I have always been interested in writing since I attended Trinity Grammar School in Sydney Australia. But further studies took me to other areas, and I attended University of New South Wales and University of Technology Sydney studying Mechanical Engineering and Business.

I worked for a time in my father's engineering business before opening my own business building sailing boats. This was short lived however, as the first thing you can do without in a recession is a new boat!

My interest in computers and technology led me into this area. IT has been very good to me and I have worked for a number of very large international companies. In this industry I was fortunate to do a lot of travel, particularly to Asia, France, and the U.S. I do some website design as well.

I have a training business which helps companies make better use of their telephone systems www.startap.biz

Firearms have always been an interest of mine. I have been competing in benchrest rifle competition since I was old enough to drive myself around. Best results in competition have been a 4th place in the NBRSA Nationals in the U.S., 2nd place in the World Championships 300m, and Australian Champion sporter class.

Martial arts have also been an interest of mine for many years. I have qualified for black belt in both traditional karate as well as kung fu. I was really fortunate to find great instructors who made all the effort worthwhile.

Somehow I managed to find time to learn to fly and for a time I ran a flying school and taught aviation theory to private and commercial pilots.

I live in Australia, in Northern Sydney with my partner who is a policewoman and a great inspiration to me.

I have 4 children who keep me busy as well.

Surprise Book 1

We follow both the good guys and the bad on their nuclear collision course in a race to avert catastrophe or initiate revenge. The first third of the book delves into the creation of a monster capable of wanton evil while hidden in plain sight. Then the heroes take up the baton and attempt to catch their adversaries before they make it to the finish line.

I was very impressed with how the author wove real life events into the fabric of the plot. The story flowed nicely from start to finish and was well fleshed out. Although, I did find the ending to be a bit anticlimactic after all of the build up to get there. However, the story continues in the second Surprise series novel, Smuggler’s Surprise.

A good first book in a series!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were well thought up and developed. There were even real people and events added throughout the book. That was a little surprising.

The one thing that I didn’t like to much was the errors. They were mostly errors of quotation marks. There were times when no one was talking in the first paragraph of a chapter and there were quotation marks. There were also instances of missing words in a character’s line.

Overall I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes this genre. I can’t wait to start reading the next book.

An intriguing plot with political ramifications

Definitely a thrill ride with no dull moment.
A judicial mix of real life events and fiction.
A lethal combination of an American hero and a Russian female counterpart. Enough actions and believable twists making you to turn pages fast excitingly.
A really fast faced fiction, a unsavoury villain with every thing at his instant disposal with a target - a most powerful man of the world to terminate. And an equally well motivated team which is there to avert from happening.

Muhommad Pashwari, only son to billionaire businessman Kamal Pushwari, was nineteen years old. He idolised his father and decided it was his time to become a martyr. He had had all the trappings of a wealthy lifestyle from birth, and felt that all he had left was the intense desire to make his beloved father proud of him. So the morning he left the palace quietly, without disturbing anyone, and went to the airport to ready himself for his last day on earth was a special day for him. His learning to fly, his diligence and attention to detail had all been part of his plan. And now, loading the bomb onto the aircraft, (which he had taken from his father’s safe), and preparing to take off toward the USS Ronald Reagan he felt a serene calmness overtake him.

The Ronald Reagan was a massive aircraft carrier which carried a huge amount of people to crew both the ship and the aircraft which were onboard. There was a three mile exclusion zone around the ship, which was always taken notice of – not to meant a major incident at the very least. But there was a small aircraft headed their way, and they couldn’t raise it on their radios…

When Kamal learned of his son’s fate he was devastated, angry and completely distraught. Then the rage hit him, and all his terrorist activities over the past decades faded into insignificance as he plotted revenge on the United States of America.

With the terrorist action against the Ronald Reagan, President Connelly was immediately notified at the Whitehouse. The CIA scrambled their best people with Matt Peterson joining forces with Natasha Karpov, a Russian intelligence operative. As the action ramped up, the hunt was on for the terrorist before it was too late.

The absolute full on pace of this book is intense. The plot is extremely credible, incorporating true events over the past decade or so, making you realize how easily these disasters can and do happen. My only issue with the book is the amount of errors, both grammatical and otherwise throughout the book. But the author has assured me he is in the process of correcting the text which will make it flow better.

This is a gripping thriller by a debut Aussie author.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this book and looked forward to an exciting read. The last part of the story had tension and excitement, which propelled the reader to keep reading and turning the page until the final conclusion. The problem I had was the middle part. At times I wondered if some of the middle had been written by someone else. In my opinion It had the feel of a different style of writing – I am sure I am wrong, but it is the impression I had when reading this part. The paragraphs in the middle were very short and ‘jumpy’, for want of a better word, it was if it had been written as a film script, where the eye sees the surrounding scene, rather than as a continuing readable in depth story. For me the middle of the book was disappointing.

This book has it all, it's a thriller with believable characters and scenarios. The author gives you enough political background to make you think this story could actually happen without ever slowing the pace or getting bogged down. From the opening scene the stakes are high, nuclear weapons used against US targets. All the way through the book you're following a US agent and a well resourced and committed terrorist. It's not a book you want to put down until you finish the last page.

Sort of a cross between Tom Clancy and Daniel Silva.

Well researched and written by someone knowledgeable about the subject matter.

But, I guess you would expect me to say that, since I wrote the book!

I just hope readers enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed the adventure of writing it.

Great read; you won't be disappointed

Fast paced. Could be ripped from today's headlines. In this day off nuclear suitcase bombs, such a plot is very credible. Great first novel by this author. I'm interested in reading a sequel!

Interesting plot, fast paced narration, straight and simple writing! No deliberate twists and turns! Short sentences; shorter chapters! ! If I don't rate it exceptional, how else would I thank Rob Carnell for such a wonderful thriller?

Stilted

The dialog became more and more forced as the story progressed for some reason. I considered abandoning it but toughed it out. It would have been helpful to use an editor.

Very good political thriller. Well written. The plot has been used to many times, because of that it is a bit predictable. However, it just proves how many Anti-Western there are in this world. It doesn't matter if the bad guys come to MIT to study. They are only learning - the West is bad. To think there are Muslim only college apartment buildings is truly frighting.
