The first of Ian's novels is a Genetic Conspiracy Thriller which explores the world of Stem Cell Research and encourages us all to ask some very searching questions about the advances that science is making, and how much we, or others, should let it affect society. A contemporary adventure, "The Orlando File" takes the reader around the world and back, and creates a unique moral dilemma that the reader cannot help but get embroiled in: at the end, the reader must ask themself, what would they do in that situation?
His second novel "The Crown of Thorns" explores the power of genetics, explores the questions that the potential to clone humans will raise, and asks the ultimate question...what would happen if a scientist found a way to clone Jesus Christ?
Ian's third novel "London 2012 : What If?" departs from the world of genetics and explores an interesting possibility that Quantum Physics raises:the possibility for parallel worlds to exist alongside each other...and what would happen if a man who wondered what other types of lives he could be living had he made other choices, where unexpectedly to step from one world into another parallel world. "What If" is also an interesting voyage through human emotions, and many readers will find themselves asking themselves similar questions that the lead character does as they read the book. As with both "The Crown of Thorns" and "The Orlando File", at the end of the book the reader is left thinking...and different readers may take away different views on how the novels did, or should have ended... It is hoped that in this way, the novels will make themselves ideal subjects for reading clubs or book clubs.

January 4, 2016Well! I downloaded this book free, so thanks to the author for that. I only chose it as I was off in holiday and it seemed like a different read! And I am so glad I DID download it, as it had me from start to finish. I'm really glad too. That I was in holiday, as I couldn't put it down, and finished it in just a couple of days! I can't decide if I really love the idea behind the book and these happenings from organ donation and transplants, or if it horrifies me!
The book is really well written. I want to say my god the author has an amazing imagination, but some part of me wonders really how much is actual imagination, and how much of the plot is based in actual research! I'm not even sire I want to know!! If is violent in some scenes, I must admit, but I don't think it's gratuitous violence. The inner workings of the killers kind, and his thoughts, fit well into the storyline, and I think add positively to the story, as the does the other violent gang scenes. But the book flows really well, and all the characters are believeable, not just the main characters - I have really fallen for Peter, the main character! I have just bought book two as I need to know how his story ends. And I have just discovered there are another 2 after that titled haunted from without!! Worth every penny though if they are anything like book one!

This was not a very good book. It took an old idea (haunted donated organs) and added a twist. The twist is that it is very poorly executed. The title says that it is a mystery. To me that means, "Pay attention to details." Doing so I was astounded by the number of flaws in it. It contradicts itself over and over again. I thought at first that the contradictions would be explained. Wrong. Then I thought that the book is a parody. Wrong again. I almost lost my mind when the author went into narrator mode for some reason only known to him.
It is not a complete loss and can be salvaged with some serious editing.

Truly an excellent thriller
Very haunting story. I would never even think about going in for an organ transplant and coming out not only with a new organ(s) but also a new developing personality tied to the organ donor. However; this is exactly what happened to our protagonist, Peter Nicolson, in this story. The scary thing about this phenomenon is that it is a true phenomenon and has actually been recorded in cases of organ transplant recipients.
In this story it is a little scarier because of the origin of Peter's transplant donor and the donors history and the effect that it has on Peter. But this story is more than just that. It actually focuses on 7 different characters and the interaction between all of the characters with quite a twist to the ending. The story really begins and ends in the Craigmillar Estate of Edinburgh England. Peter Nicolson is a news reporter writing about the appalling conditions of Craigmillar Estate and the action begins from there bringing all of the various curious and somewhat bizarre storylines together. I think the author did an excellent job of juggling l of the storylines, developing the characters and creating a truly fascinating story,meanwhile introducing the reader to a little-known but true medical phenomenon and fleshing it out quite well. I think this was an excellent bit of writing, highly resend it on many levels, and look forward to reading more from this author.

Thriller to the max.
A thriller within a thriller within a mystery. A very knowledgeable serial killer was haunting Europe from the simple villages of England to the hills of the icy slopes of Switzerland. He will not be held accountable.
One man can track the killer's movements and bring closure to the victims. Will he be credible, making up a story to further his career, or will the police think he is the killer?

Amazing book that enthralled me
I loved this book because it captivated me from the start. There were many subplots that seemed to be surplus to the story, but they were woven into a terrifying, but riveting tapestry that kept me glued to the page. The characters were skilfully crafted to make a realistic story, that made me think " Could this happen to me ? " look forward to the third book in the series.

Couldn't stop reading
There is much to unpack in this book. Just wow! Imagine waking up from surgery and all of a sudden wondering who you are. This is what happens to Peter after having a double transplant. What's even more wild is that what he is experiencing is truly a real medical phenomenon. I couldn't put the book down as Peter starts unraveling the life of his donor: a serial killer! I can't wait to read his next book and others.

This book has a little bit of everything in it! Drama, murder, medical mysteries, love, friendships, heartbreak....I could go on!

Brilliant, totally riveted. Got the book free on Amazon and when it was finished there was a link to join the authors mailing list. Glad I did because I got.the extra part......for.free too. Bloody brilliant. Cellular memory, fascinating subject!!!!!!

The idea for the story was fantastic. However it was very poorly written with basic grammatical errors and some sentences being clunky and not always making sense.
The writer seems misogynistic due to his portrayal of all female characters being written as similar and superficial.

This is a continuation of a previous book.
The story continues to be interesting, but I can't say too much without giving the story away. The one guy in the first book who was a gang leader becomes Robert in this book and is truly sorry and begs forgiveness. You can see how that turns out.

Interesting premise, fun use of Scottish dialect, too much of the f--- word, didn't really keep my interest--went on way too long----left you hanging @ the end.

I've read previous books by Ian Irvine and they have been far better than this. Punctuation is all over the place and the writing is long and rambling. Certainly not one of his best.

This was the fifth thriller I've read by Irvine. They keep getting better and better. This is a cross between a Michael Palmer medical mystery, with intrigue of a Gone Girl type thriller, with exquisite descriptions of several beautiful mountains in the UK. All that and throw in the sensitivity of a Nicolas Sparks novel and you have a real page turner.
To make it even better it's free. I felt a little guilty for reading such good quality without paying for it.

This could have been a 5 star. The story was interesting, the charecters well developed, I enjoyed the Scots dialect and scenery BUT
1) to many editorial mistakes
2) the F--K word was way over done - there were a few places where they were called for but overall way to much. If it was a movie I would have walked out of it.
3) a the very end William just jumped out at you and it was confusing since there was no timeline for him, just one sentance would have fixed this little odd bit.
Because of the above I would have given it 3 stars, but it gave me plenty of food for thought - which always earns an extra star !

this book is amazing and genuinely scary. not in a classic ghost or slasher horror story scary, but in a real, get in your head and freak you out way. The book deals with a subject that we have probably all considered at some point but have disregarded as nonsense, but what if it isn't ?.....
Have now read book 2 and again it was really good. The language wasn't as bad as I was expecting and was really only used as a way of letting us see the difference in the conflicting characters. I had no idea that this subject has actually been documented until I googled it and found that the subject is not nonsense as I had hoped. Scary ....

Tnis has to be the most interesting book I have ever read, and I have been reading for over 60 years. The plot unfolds in Scotland but soon moves to other parts of the planet. It starts as a quite simple story but soon grabs your interest and is a book you can't put down. Well done to the author in the way he has written the book from several different viewpoints and characters. If I hadn't already bought part two I would be looking for it straight away,as book 1 leaves you hanging and wanting to know the ending.

While this is actually a two-book story, you simply cannot read book 1 and stop. You are compelled to continue into book 2, making this read a very long read. However, it does hold you attention and has a very interesting concept -- do organ donor's personality traits transfer via their organs?? The rough language was unnecessary many times, but aside from that, it has a very good plot and is worth the read. Would recommend.

I really liked this book. It's scary to think that the concept of you taking on the personality of the person who donates an organ to you is a distinct possibility. The author even gives you a web site to check it out. With what science is finding out about stem cell research and what certain drug treatments do when combined, I'm not all uncertain that this scenario won't some day be true. I was fascinated with the story.

Here's the second book in a row that just didn't do it for me. I got through about halfway and I think I was skimming more towards the mid way part then actually reading. It was just so boring! I'd read like the first sentence of each paragraph and know what was going on still....basically nothing!

I wasn't sure about this book when I first started reading it, but my mum said that it is one of the best books she has ever read so I went back to it and I'm really glad I did. I'm about half way through the book right now and it definitely has me hooked. I will review it when I'm done ...Can't wait to read what happens next, thanks mum!
