Caught Up in Love #2

Pretending He's Mine

Rate this book
Once upon a time in New York City, there was a down-on-his-luck actor named Reeve, who was talented and gorgeous in that dreamy, broody sort of way that makes all the women swoon. But show biz is a rough biz – he lost out on a part in a big film, and now his day job hours have been cut too. What’s a handsome young thing in need of a role to do? Enter Sutton Brenner. She’s sexy and shrewd and the most top-notch casting director there is. She’s this close to landing a coveted gig casting a film based on a best-selling mega-romance novel, but there’s a catch. After one too many transgressions with lovely single ladies, the film’s philandering producer has been put on a short leash by his wife, who’s forbidden him from working with anyone unattached. So the happily single Sutton strikes a pact with Reeve – play the role of her fiancee until she closes the deal, and he’s guaranteed to get an audition for the starring role in the film. But as the two play pretend, the lines between make-believe and matters of the heart start to blur. Especially after that hot night in the balcony of the Broadway theater. And that scorching afternoon in the stacks of the New York Public Library. Who’s playing who? Or is someone else really the director in the secret affair of their lives?

PRETENDING HE’S MINE is a companion book in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling CAUGHT UP IN US series. It can be read before or after CAUGHT UP IN US. You do not need to have read CAUGHT UP IN US to enjoy this story, though characters from CAUGHT UP IN US appear in PRETENDING HE'S MINE.

My first experience with Blakely was falling for Nick’s Hammer in Mister O. And though I didn’t like him quite as much as his brother, I also enjoyed Wyatt’s Hammer in Well Hung. So when I was fumbling around on Ammy looking for something free and light to get the taste of a book I didn’t really enjoy out of my mouth, I saw that this one was free and jumped right on it…

And I enjoyed Pretending He’s Mine, but only in a vague non-committal way. Reeve, the male love interest here, didn’t do anything to upset me…. He just didn’t do anything to endear him to me either.

Out of work actor/male model, Reeve, gets an interesting offer from casting director, Sutton Brenner. The offer? To pretend to be her fiancé so that she can land a dream job that for stupid reasons indeed requires she be ‘a family woman’. However, Reeve is too good at the role Sutton cast him in, far too good. The lines of what is pretend and what is real start to blur, and then seemingly disappear entirely.

Reeve was a fine love interest, he just wasn’t all that interesting. He was missing that something, for me, that elevates a character from a vague enjoyment to actually caring about their life.

Part of that could be that I am entirely disillusioned by struggling actors, I number quite a few of them as friends and acquaintances and while they may be more beautiful, traditionally speaking, than the average person walking down the street they are just people to me. There is no allure in the career choice anymore, it’s just a thing some people do (in my mind), and I have no issue with that but it’s not defining. Too much of the way this was written banked on the reader being impressed with Reeve and Sutton’s careers, which I simply wasn’t.

I did enjoy that Blakely made Sutton older than him by four years but DIDN’T make it some awkward stumbling block of their romance. That was a nice change of pace from some other romances I’ve read. The sex scenes were pretty good here (like I’ve come to expect from Blakely) and Reeve was a nice, sweet man. As I said I had very few issues with the romance, I just found it to be relatively bland. I wanted more spice from these characters…. And ultimately, I just didn’t get that.

Note: my inclusion of not one but two 'Suicide Squad' Joker gifs has absolutely nothing to do with this story.... it is yet another I-do-what-I-want moment.

5 BRILLIANTLY BLAZING REEVE AND SUTTON STARS

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!!

Yeah you know it, I am in book LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. This is the kind of book that makes me want to read. I know it’s just a novella but this is the PERFECT example of a novella done well. I can’t even begin to tell you how well written it was and Oh.My, was it steamy

description

Mmmmmm...yes. It was so good!!! Like really good...like majorly good...like rock your freaking socks off good.

The chemistry between Reeve -who is f*cking delicious- and Sutton is indescribable. I was burning up as I read and had to fan myself several times!! It was filled with tons of sexual tension and yumminess. I was in BOOK HEAVEN

He swept a strand of her soft brown hair away from her ear, and asked in a low, sexy voice, "What could it hurt for me to know how you like it Sutton?"....

Sutton took a step closer to Reeve, giving him a look as if he were a naughty schoolboy. "Doggie Style, she whispered, the watched him closely. .... "What's yours, Reeve?"

He locked eyes with her and she felt goosebumps on her arms. Then, he dipped in closer, his mouth inches away. "The one you like best. That's my favorite. My favorite thing is making you feel good."

AHHHHHH...Seriously...swoon! I'm in love with him. I need more!!! This little book needs to be longer because I don't think I could ever have enough Reeve!!

So Basically the story starts out with Reeve who’s down in the dumps after failing big time on his last audition. He’s an actor who wants nothing more than to get a starring role. To pay his bills he works for a mail delivery service and delivers mail. He happens to have a little issue at work and gets suspended for a week leaving him feeling as if he can’t catch a break.

Sutton Brenner is a successful casting director with tons of major motion pictures behind her belt. She’s trying to secure a job as a casting director for the next big movie that’s being produced. Meeting with the producer and his wife to try to get this job Sutton is accidentally mistaken for another Sutton (who’s a famous actress) that recently made headlines for being engage to be married. Instead of correcting this tiny bit of information, Sutton decides to play along and find a guy to play the part of beloved fiance to secure the job. Deciding she knows the perfect guy she calls Reeve and proposition him with the part of being her soon to be husband for some money. Reeve snatches the opportunity but decides instead of the money he wants a chance to audition for a part in the production. One the deal is struck and the game starts Sutton and Reeve realize they can’t keep their hands off each other which leads to a little more than they expected.

It’s so, so, so, so, so good....seriously it’s steamy and sweet. It’s the absolute BEST novella I have ever read. I devoured it...de-freaking-voured it. Reeve is delicious, he makes you swoon, smile, sweat and sizzle. He’s heart stoppingly sexy and his dirty mouth is OH.SO flipping scrumptious. I fell hard, majorly hard for him.

description

That's my Reeve..sigh...totally yummy!!

Sutton is the perfect character. She's strong and independent, doesn’t take any crap and knows how to carry herself. She’s the kind of girl in a book you can be proud of. With Reeve she melts. She’s honestly like putty in his hands and I LOVED it. She’s not afraid of her sexuality and embraces her wild sexy side. It was hottttttttttt!!!

description

Like I said before her and Reeve are amazing together. They complement each other perfectly. The whole thing was just fantastic! I can’t stress it enough! Lauren Blakely delivered a fabulous combination of addictive characters, a fun plot and a brilliantly sexy love story!

I LOVED THIS

LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT....GO,GO, GO, GO
mark your tbr. It’ll be out soon and it’s a MUST READ!

Easy stress free low angst read. Funny saying that since Sutton ran a little hot cold but Reeve he was perfect and I honestly read for Perfect heroes anyway.
Very relieved that I didn't have to read about the movie scene with Reeve and another woman .. Never so glad to see a fade to black moment in my life.

Safe as can be for me.

There's something about fake relationship romances that hit the spot just right.

➜ all of the crazy tension of being forced to pretend there's something there, thinking there's nothing there, when there's really something there
➜ the chemistry that is even more intense because the characters deny its existence
➜ that moment when it all comes down to who will finally admit their feelings

And this story had all of that. Sutton needed a fake fiance pronto and Reeve needed an in to the acting role to jumpstart his career. Win-win, right?

It even has a cute happy-for-now epilogue. I only wish that I really felt this relationship. I enjoyed the characters and maybe would have felt more if I spent more time with them. Maybe that's why the author rewrote the story and made it more of a full-length book.

Really good

This was a really good book, I could see this all happening in real life. It has everything one would want in a good book...except the ending which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. When I read about this book it says it's a standalone, so at the end of this book, I didn't expect to see if you want to know what happens between Chase and Josie find out in full package.....UM what? I hate that and it's why I always read to see if the books I'm reading r standalones or not. So absolutely loved this story, if I didn't I'd have given this a 3 for the ending. Still worth reading just know if you want all inf. on the couple you'll need to read another book.

Ok

I’ve read a few of this authors books before but this one just didn’t do it for me.

Now don’t get me wrong the storyline has potential, it’s interesting and intriguing but there’s a lack of something in there. The same kind of something that grabs your attention and leaves you wanting to read more not feeling like you have to.

I got to about 34% before I had to stop, if I had pushed myself any further I doubt I’d be able to read another book from this author but I know she’s an amazing writer.

I’m not sure if it’s because this book is one of her earlier works but it lacks what her other books have had.

I’ll definitely be reading more of her works but maybe just later in releases.

WOW......pay attention everyone because this is how you write a novella. I've said it before....I don't usually read novellas but I would gladly read a novella that Lauren Blakely has written any day! I love her writing style and how she manages to make you feel like you are not missing out on any of the story or left hanging. I loved Caught Up in Us and I LOVED Pretending He's Mine! Be prepared, ladies the steam factor is turned up majorly in Pretending He's Mine! I've found a new book boyfriend in Reeve! 4 stars!

Sutton is a movie casting director who knows what she wants and likes to maintain control in her life. In order to land a major job she needs to find a fake fiancé. Reeve is an out of work actor who Sutton thinks will be perfect for the part. He's hot, has a great look, and is the perfect actor to pull off this stunt. Sutton propositions Reeve with an offer he can't refuse and before long the lines get blurred when there is instant chemistry and sexual tension between the two. One minute Sutton is hot, the next she's cold, and Reeve has to try to get her to let her guard down if he wants to have any chance of a future with Sutton. The question is can Reeve make Sutton believe that he really is not acting anymore.......and does Sutton feel the same way? After all, this was all just a game.....wasn't it?

I loved this story and I love that we get a peek of characters from Caught Up in Us....Kat and Bryan make an appearance, as well as Jill. If your looking for a quick, fun, sexy, story with some major steaminess than Pretending He's Mine is the perfect book for you! I can't wait to see what Lauren Blakely has in store for us next.

Loved this book! Reeve was all sorts of panty-melting hotness! That he constantly had in control Sutton begging for it was no surprise. That man could surely deliver his lines. Ooh la la! She was looking for man candy, and Reeve is definitely a lollipop, but he was also clever, intelligent, kind, thoughtful, gallant, protective, and totally into her. Reeve is officially on my book boyfriend list!

Sutton was a little harder to warm up to but it was easy to see she was jaded and mistrustful of the motives of others because of the business she was in. She kept trying to hold her feelings back despite the intense attraction she immediately had for Reeve. She wants to be sure his feelings are real and he's not just playing the role she gave him. Nothing wrong with that.

It was fun to watch this story unfold and their relationship grow from role-playing to real. I was definitely caught up in it, devoured it, didn't put it down until it was over. My only complaint? The ending felt too soon. I wanted more. But then, isn't that how a good story should leave you?

Cute and spicey novella that follows Blakely's first book in the "Caught Up In Us" series. Loved the characters of Reeve and Sutton (both names as well) and their "stage" romance that suddenly turns real for them both. And there's a really cute little dog as well!

Cute story - really glad I reread #1 though! I would have had that nagging feeling that I was missing something otherwise.

I listened to the audio with Emily Durante narrating and enjoyed it.

Pretending He's Mine was exactly the kind of book I wanted to read tonight. Sometimes you just want to sit back, relax, and read something that plays out like a movie.

Reeve is a struggling actor living in New York. He knows he could easily give up on his dreams and pursue a desk job, but he doesn't want that. He lives for his passion. However, after Reeve screws up the audition of a lifetime and is suspended at work, he feels like all of his luck has run out.

The only thing standing between Sutton Brenner and her dream job is her love life, or lack thereof. In order to land the position she wants, she must also land herself a boyfriend. And in less than 24 hours.

Sutton decides to hire Reeve to play her fiance. However, the chemistry between them is palpable and they are left wondering how much of their relationship is real and how much of it is fake.

Overall, I'd give 3 stars to Pretending He's Mine . It isn't Shakespeare or anything and it's definitely not going to change my life, but I liked it. If you're looking for something that's enjoyable and reminiscent of a chick-flick, this one's for you.

Ok so short, sweet and to the point...just like this book.
I LOVED IT!
I Loved there realationship and how it got started, the fact they slowly grew in "like" with each other:) Not in love thank god, it happened slowly just like it should've for them. I hate when people are together for a week and somehow fall madly in love...does that really seem real? Nope, not at all. Not to me at least.
I've had a thing for Reeve since the first book and actually wouldn't have minded if him and Kat got a lil "close" for a sec:)! Yes he has this serious hotness going on, and Sutton is perfect for him. She had the best "take charge" attitude, she knew what she wanted and how to get it. Yes she was a little reserved but she really had good reason...I'm mean really how can you believe and actor. All in all this was a great short read and once again Lauren lived up to my expectations:)

Damn, Lauren Blakely is good… REALLY GOOD! Pretending He's Mine exemplifies what a novella should be. Although short, the story is complete. It does not leave readers hanging, which is something that I truly appreciated. If you are looking for something short, fun, cute, swoon-worthy, and damn straight steamy and sexy, you should definitely pick this book up! It's well written, and the characters are irresistible. (They undeniably have great chemistry.) While I was reading, there were moments where I couldn't stop grinning. Also, I can't even count the times where my cheeks turned red. There were just too many! Overall, Pretending He's Mine is a delight. I recommend it! 4.5 stars!

I really liked the middle of this book. The start of it made me nuts and the ending was just kinda odd in terms of everything but the couple.

The hero is great. The heroine... hmmm... I go hot and cold with her. She is pretty assessing. Meaning she thinks of people as objects or puzzles in some ways but not in a neutral or kind way.

Then, she really likes the hero. This could be seen as simply going after what she wants and assertive but it sometimes just feels souless.

But there are good moments and snappy banter.

Fun light easy read that was entertaining and sexy. A fake engagement that turns into something more. All a little bit clichéd but enjoyable nevertheless. Sutton Brenner, successful Hollywood casting director, desperate for a sought after position casting for a hot new film. The only problem is, she needs to get engaged, and fast. Super hot, super sexy, out of work actor Reeve Larkin is desperate for a job, any job. Enter Sutton with an offer he can't refuse. The question is, are they both acting or is something more happening?

You know a book is good when the only negative thing you can say about it is that it was too short. Wish Lauren had written a novel instead because she sure can write 'em. Humorous, sexy and a lovely HEA rounds up this lovely treat. I also loved the extras at the end, some outtakes for her first book and the first chapter of the sequel to Monica Murphy's book.(I must confess I read that first because I am a huge Marshmallow fan.)

Rating 5 out of 5
Whew! Get the hose out because this Momma got a hot flash from reading this novel. If I could rate it higher than a 5 I would and it would deserve every bit of that rating. Crazy casting director hires the hot guy (who secretly sports more than a crush on her) to be her fake fiance. There was steam and blushing and fire and passion beyond what I was expecting from reading the synopsis. Stick a fork in me because Momma is so closing the blinds and taking Daddy to bed!

Another Amazing Book By Lauren Blakely!! Loved Reeve and Sutton's story. Now I need a great story for Jill!! And of course more of Bryan and Kate and Reeve and Sutton. I like that these books are fun and flirty without tons of heartache. Of course there is conflict, but not to the point of you wanting to throw the book or cry your eyes out. Can't wait for more!!
