REBORN (Six Saviors #3) by Carly Fall

REBORN is the third storyline in Carly Fall’s Six Savior series.

Background: 6 saviors warriors from planet SR44: Rayner, Hudson, Noah, Cohen, Jovan & Talin. The warriors were sent to earth 211 years ago to stop and eradicate the 12 murderers who escaped from one of the moon colonies of planet SR44. The Colonists, as they were soon called, made their way to Earth, took the human body form, mated with the females and populated the earth with Colonist DNA. The savior warriors are part of the elite military from planet SR44, commissioned to remove the Colonists from Earth. The beings on planet SR44 are incorporeal bodies of mist and smoke, each bearing a different color, but in their corporeal bodies on Earth, their eyes will glow their familiar- planet SR44 color each evening. REBORN is Hudson’s story and his eyes are yellow.

Hudson’s life was over. He had lived over 1200 years and he was in so much pain. The only woman he had ever loved never felt the same about him, and the fact that she was killed by the Colonists, has never stopped the pain he has felt since her rejection. With his family back on SR44 dead and his ‘delinquent’ brother presumably MIA or dead, there was no one left for him to worry. Now that his daughter Abby was happily mated to his ‘warrior brother’ Noah, Hudson is determined to end his life. Booking a room at The Four Seasons Hotel, Hudson ate his last meal, found a woman for the night and saw the most beautiful pair of green eyes staring at him through the mirror in the bar. Oh well, this was his last night on Earth and no one was going to interrupt his plans. Well maybe the Colonist who had tied his body to a chair and was currently torturing and slicing up his body with a blade. But when blackness over took, the last thing he remembered were the beautiful green eyes of a woman he never had the chance to meet.

Dr. Beverly Devlone had spent the last few weeks in rehab. Following the suicide of her mother and the car accident that all but destroyed her pelvis, Beverly’s life had sunk to a new low when she was caught stealing prescription pain killers from the hospital pharmacy where she worked. With her career in ruins, Beverly checked herself into detox and waited for the day she could drive across country and forget about everything that had happened. Checking into The Four Seasons Hotel, Beverly would catch the eye of a beautiful stranger, only to find herself the next morning, following the orders of a group of strangers trying to save the life of their friend-the man she had seen the night before in the bar. He had been brutally tortured and the blood loss was great, and Beverly was the only available ‘physician’ at the time. Blindfolded and scared, she was escorted to a waiting vehicle where in the next few hours her life was about to change.

The warriors were royally pissed. No one was to bring home a human-regardless whether she saved Hudson’s life or not. Believing their lives were now compromised, it would take a wounded Hudson to stand up and protect Beverly from the others he has always called friends. But with the Colonists on the move, Beverly would become a liability, especially now that she knew where they lived. And Hudson was in denial about his feelings for Beverly, as he claimed to hold on to the memories from his past. He was unable to move on from the rejection of the woman he once thought he could call mate.

As Hudson’s strength and health returned, Beverly knew her time with the group of friends was drawing to an end. But seeing the glowing yellow eyes of the man she was beginning to love, she knew that these people were not quite human. When their stories were finally revealed, it took everything in Beverly not to run for the hills, and like these Six Savior Warriors, Beverly had some secrets of her own. But it wasn’t until the day that the Colonist showed up to finish the job he started on Hudson, did Beverly know the true meaning of fear. The man she was starting to love, wasn’t the man who she saw killing the stranger outside. But the identity of the Colonist would shock everyone including Hudson knowing he once thought the stranger was dead.

Leaving Hudson was one of the most difficult decisions Beverly ever chose. With the help of Abby and Faith, Beverly would take advantage of the Colonists death, and head out to try and start a new life on her own. But a few weeks later, Beverly knew she had made a mistake and knew she had to return to Hudson, if only for the support of what lay ahead for their future-together or alone.

REBORN is another wonderful storyline in Carly Fall’s Six Savior series. Hudson is a man lost in a world of self-doubt and pain, and it will take the love of a beautiful woman with some demons of her own, to bring him back to life. Hudson’s denial of the possibility of ever loving again, bleeds a self-fulfilling prophecy, when he doesn’t allow himself the freedom to find happiness.

Carly includes some of the background information from the previous storylines, which is always a benefit to new readers. I like the fact the warriors all live together which allows for plenty of interaction between all of the character from the previous storylines and future novels. There was not as much action in this particular story, as the novel dealt with two people fighting their own inner demons. Another HEA for a Savior Warrior from the planet SR44.

I have to say that of all the Six Saviors, Hudson was by far my favorite. I know that other fans of the SS series feel the same way and this book was highly anticipated for those of us who fell in love with the sexy, well-dressed, skilled chef and warrior assassin. I was not disappointed.

Hudson is in terrible pain. A male from the planet SR44 cannot be without the woman he loves without going through a world of hurt and the only woman Hudson has ever loved left him years ago and banned him from seeing his child. Hudson has carried this pain for almost 30 years and he has just had enough. He has existed purely for the daughter he only recently connected with, but now that she is happily married to one of his fellow warriors, Hudson is ready to leave this life. The book opens with him in a very terrible situation and ready to give up on his own life. His desperation was heartbreaking but also angering at the same time. As a person who has had a family member lost to suicide, I couldn't help but be angry at Hudson for wanting to abandon the people he loved. Beverly gave him a good tongue lashing for me, though, so at least he learned the error of his ways.

About Beverly...she is also in pain. After losing everything, including the M.D. behind her name, due to her pill addiction, she is looking to start over. Unsure of what an ex-doctor does with her life, Beverly decides to jump into her car and hit the road right out of rehab. When her path crosses with an injured Hudson, she is wrangled into moving in with the warriors until Hudson is whole again. While Beverly is going about the business of stitching up Hudson's body, she also manages to heal his heart as well.

I love a story about two broken people somehow finding their way together. Neither were perfect people, yet both were able to find in each other everything that they'd been missing. Each were tested as well, and both passed with flying colors, which showed true character development.

All the other elements I've come to love about the SS series were there too--the comaraderie between the men, seeing the couples from the first two books still together and happy, and the frank and coarse language that adds even more to the humor in my opinion. If I had one complaint, it's that I wanted a bit more heat. This is a small, teeny, tiny complaint and not enough to make me adjust my rating. But this was HUDSON, and I was wanting to really get some more heat...but maybe Ms. Fall had it right by making the moments between them more about the emotion then the actual acts. After all, we are talking about rebirth here, and in the case of these two broken souls, this is exactly what happens by the end of the book. There were some twists at the end as well. One I was expecting, one that caught me completely off guard. Those fans of the SS series that wonder about the whole 'can Hudson make love to the woman he loves without losing his SR44 form'...you will just have to read to see what happens. Needless to say, I was personally pleased with the outcome.

At the end I was left with the feeling that Jovan's story will be next. Due to his gift, I am very interested in seeing where the series takes us. Reborn was a great addition to the series as well. Another job well done.

This book was provided to me by the author in exchange for my fair and honest review. This review was posted at The Romance Writers Reads blog by me and my opinions were not influenced in any way, nor was I compensated for this review.

(RabidReads.com)I have been reading this series for probably over the last three years. And that’s not because they aren’t good reads, because they really are. This is the third book in the series, and I have enjoyed all three so far. I have no excuses as to why I am taking so long with this series. None.

This series tells the story of six warriors from another planet that have come to earth in search of colonists that have invaded earth, and are criminals of the worse kind. Their favorite thing to do is kill humans, the more gruesome the better. The warriors all live together in a fully renovated underground silo in Arizona. The six have been on earth for over two hundred years and have taken on human form although their own misty form is inside them and the only thing that manifests is glowing, different color eyes at night only. The only thing that can make them lose their real form and start to age as human, is if they mate with the person that is their true mate. It doesn’t help that they look like gods among men-totally hot and extremely fit. So yes, women notice them, and they do enjoy the occasional night spent with one. Two have found their mates and now it’s Hudson’s turn. Hudson was the one I really was excited for. He’s super alpha male AND he loves to cook.

Hudson has decided that since he already met his only mate a long time ago and was turned down, that he can no longer live in the pain he has been in for close to thirty years. So he takes himself to a four star resort to spend a couple of days in luxury before he kills himself. While there he meets Beverly, and is attracted, but doesn’t pursue it since it doesn’t fit his sad agenda. Before he can do anything, he is attacked by a colonist and tortured. Beverly is a disgraced physician. After some horrible and painful physical and personal problems, she became addicted to drugs. Long story short, she’s clean now and at loose ends. Through a series of events, she ends up being the person to help when Hudson can’t go to a hospital

I always enjoy the banter between all the guys and now that women live in the house, the men are changing things up a bit-not much, but a bit. They all still care about each other like a family would. So the friendships are as important as the romance in these books, at least I think they are. There’s always a colonist causing havoc, and after the torture he endured, Hudson has a bone to pick with one in particular.

This read, while it features aliens, at it’s heart is a romance. A romance with suspense that involves horrible killers, but still a good sensual romance. The characters are fully defined with real flaws. Nothing like flawed characters that find their mate to change up their life!

It could stand alone, but really you should start with the first book, “The Light Within Me,” in order to get all the background and see how the two others went about finding their mates, all while colonists are causing mega problems. I recommend these to adult paranormal romance readers, and I do plan on reading the next one, sooner rather than later. I promise!

3.5 out of 5

Yes, this grade is a bit lower but I still enjoyed it. I just found Hudson a tad too emo for my tastes. But I hasten to add I'm still enjoying. I purchased the 5 book set so I'm a happy camper at that purchase.

This Review was first published on my blog Lecture toute une Aventure

My opinion:
A really good book but so far my least favourite in the series. This book is to me the more violent one or to be more precise, in precedent books we got some gruesome report on colonist’s crimes but we didn’t really assisted in one like we do in Reborn. Oh don’t worry it’s well written, well thought but I couldn’t connect with the characters as much as I hoped I would and I did found this one a little too predictable for me.

Hudson seemed to be a pillar of the saviours team while he is in fact one that suffer the most, not only from his past on SR44, but also from event taking place on Earth. He never got over Abby’s Mother, Iris, rejection and that’s mining him. Male from their planet have a really strong link to their mate and if the mate goes missing they can become crazy and suffer physically….i can understand that of course but then I had some little difficulty as why the other didn’t understand his situation and was left to himself. There is different kinds of love true but with what happen it makes me think he fantasized himself in love with Iris when he was only fond of her and it’s kind of strange after all his time on earth he didn’t see that. I guess it’s also a little for that I had difficulties to accept how he acted with Beverly.

Beverly is a kind soul she just doesn’t have enough inner strength, more than she thinks but a lot less than Faith for example. As a doctor she wants to help, to save live and thus when she failed to save the one important to her and then had an accident it crushed her. However, it’s also what made her meet the saviours….like it was her destiny. In her medical mode she is really proficient and determined, she immediately see that Hudson is hiding more than he let on and that he can’t be trusted alone…sometimes it takes a broken soul to recognize another , anyway it’s her personal experience that gives her what she need to reach to Hudson and find the right words. They are saving each other but at first she still doesn’t fight for herself, to make him accept her no and that frustrated me.

The action is strong is this one and I guessed the identity of the colonist after the first pages, it was well done but it was still evident for me. Then after the event in “ Finding My faith” it was impossible not to expect trouble… there are here just even stronger I mean…he even tell Hudson more is to come and as reader you know what he has done but the saviours done and I really hope they are ready…. I guess if I liked this one less it’s also linked to how I consider SR44….i mean they throw their citizens on a mission but without any contact allowed and no back up and now we see with no information either… this could have been prevented if the chiefs had given them a list with the culprits’ name… but no they just have to find the twelve who escaped… no more explanation just a set of rules really strong, cruel even. In this book I resented this even more because of Hudson…. In a sense they are the sacrificial lambs.

The romance is cute but it missed the deepness from the other books…they need to work on their connection in a sense after attraction , learning about each other past they must create something more. I could love this couple but so far it’s just appreciation.

Now on a technical level, this is the 3rd book in the series and if it could works as stand alone.. I wouldn’t recommend it to be read out of order. Yes the author give a little background from the universes so you are not lost but this book more than the precedent one is set in a line of events better to be followed so I really recommend you to start with book 1 first and then follow the rest in order to understand the saviours and get the story in a whole because the stakes are growing after each book and the suspense is mounting ( but no real cliffhanger no).

A good book for lover of paranormal romance with aliens.

Score: 3,5/5

To see review at Confessions

This is the continuation from the previous book where Faith came face to face with a Colonist named Charles El Asesino Taylor and managed to get away while her parents were killed and she later finds happiness with Rayner. Now its Hudson’s turn to tell his story. As the only surviving member of his family after a terrible accident, he was saved from a life of crime when the peacemaker intervened and signed him up for the military.

Now as ones of the members of Six Saviours, he been living on Earth for the past 200 years but recent changes in the group have left him depressed to the point of wanting to commit suicide.

Noah’s mate Abby is Hudson’s daughter and Hudson has been reminded more than ever about her mom, his love, Iris, who told him that she didn’t love him. With Abby now safety settled with Noah, the pain is too much to bear. He decides to check into the Four Seasons Hotel and kill himself. But things don’t go to plan when he is found by Charles who wants to get access to the silos and needs the access code. Tortured and bleeding out from the knife Charles attacks him with, he is found by Faith and Rayner but there is a problem. The regular doctor, Cohen, is in the UK and can’t get back so they need another doctor STAT.

Beverly is a former doctor who just got out drug rehab fighting an addiction to pain pills after her accident and her mother’s suicide. Removed from the medical practitioner list by the medical board, she is spending some time at the hotel before she makes the journey to the West Coast where she hopes to make a clean break.

They had noticed each other over the course of a couple of days so when she hears Faith’s call for a doctor she knows she has to help. Whisked away to the secret location, Beverly and Hudson soon form a closer relationship over their pain and start to heal. But Charles is lurking about and his secret about his past will through a wrench into the budding relationship.

I love seeing the theme of pain and healing handled competently by author Carly Fall. She doesn’t make it feel that the characters are at fault for their decisions and behaviours. I‘m enjoying this series a lot and can’t wait to see where the next book will take us. 5 couples.

Wonderful read !!!

What a Story !!!
Liked this one soooo much better then the previous one !!
Beverly is a woman, who has hit rock bottom, and is going forward with her life. Letting the past go , she treats herself to a few days at the Four Seasons Resort. Where she encounters a very sexy Warrior .
Hudson is a Warrior from SR44, sent to deal with escaped convicts from his planet . These Colonists, have made Earth their playground for all of their terror .
On this particular day, Hudson has some major plans for his future.
A future that gets interrupted by a beautiful , sexy woman.
But he already knows that she is too good for him.......
I thought that this book was very layered with the history of Hudson, and showed us his many sides. What makes him tick. Enjoyed the dynamic between he and Beverly, and how the attraction was there, but they didn't really act on it right away ....
Loved how the story moved and transitioned , and how we as readers get to see normal life for the Warriors and their growing household.
Anxious to read the next !!
Also there is an extra side story , and if you get a chance to get it , it's a Wonderful story !!!

Reborn can be read as a stand alone or as part of the Six Saviors Series.

Hudson is an amazing cook, loved by his daughter and fellow saviors, but is in pain.

Beverly is an ex-doctor/junkie who wants to start over.

Checking into the Four Seasons Hotel to plan her next move, she runs into a solid wall covered in silk. She can't help but consider this ginormous mass of muscles beautiful.

Hudson and Beverly's chance encounter sets off a chain of events that appears to be fate. Come along this explosive and intense ride as they learn about each other and face an unknown future.

Reading Reborn as a stand alone, I found it really entertaining and addictive. Carly did an amazing job on giving the right amount of back story to all of the characters mentioned in this install and found it hard to put down.

Now I need to start at the beginning and read the entire series!

Going through hell and back. I guess that describe pretty well what happened to Hudson and Beverly. And why they understand each other so well.
But still, I would say she is the woman who reacts the most naturally to all that happened around and to her which makes you really like her as a character.

Enjoyed the story of Hudson and Beverly tremendously. It was nice to have insight into why Hudson never seemed to be happy. The only reason this book is getting only 4 stars is because I felt there was too much repetition of certain facets of the story that had already been covered.
