An engaging range of period texts and theme books for AS and A Level history. The mass murder of European Jews by the Nazis, stands out as one of the most horrific events of the twentieth century. Peter Neville surveys the history of anti-Semitism in Europe and examines the influence of anti-Semitic ideas on the Nazi Party. The author explores the tensions between the extermination programme and the German war economy; the development of the Jewish resistance; and the response of the Allies to the Holocaust. The final chapters consider of the Holocaust denial and assess the legacy of the Holocaust to the modern world. The Holocaust contains a selection of primary and secondary sources.
This book works well as a textbook on the Holocaust. However the way it frames the colonisation of Palestine and the Nakba (which the author refuses to say, and kind of just implies that Arabs left Palestine because of military defeat rather than ethnic cleansing) and says that initial Jewish settlers were "secular" and "tolerant". Aside from these glaring issues with the framing on the founding of Israel and what Israel itself is, this is a book that works well in the study of the Holocaust. It is not fully factual or unbiased, however being unbiased on writing about the Holocaust isn't truly necessary when it comes to an event so horrible.
So yes, I do read books other then Comics hahaha! So I am currently doing A-Level History, Cambridge, and this one my textbooks, so i thought i reviewed it! I have done at least 2 projects this year on The Holocaust and i always use this book as a reference, the chapters are all laid out well, it really does try to give you all the facts in the most summarized way! The Activities at the end of each chapter are great to! In history I always struggled when it came to analyses and the activities at the end of each chapter, really helped me! But overall this a great textbook!
