The problem with books from Indian authors (and a couple of classical stories) is essentially the writing style and how hard it makes for me to even read it. The characters feel awfully one dimensional and it takes out the essence of the story
There are so many character and story lines that it is hard to keep track. No character is deeply explored and the ending is not sad or happy but just bizarre.
