A lone renegade prowling the streets, Dark Elf rogue Lazareth is arrested and thrown into the Imperial City prisons. With the empire ready to crumble, the gates of Oblivion open and demons march upon the land. Emperor Uriel Septim and his guardians, the Blades, venture into Lazareth's prison cell, to make use of a secret escape tunnel. But dark on the Emperor's trail lurks the Mythic Dawn, a cult of assassins who have already murdered the Emperor's heirs. Only the Dragonborn, in whose veins flow the Septim blood, can relight the Dragonfires in the Temple of the One and reinforce the barriers that protect the Land of Cyrodiil. With his dying breath, the Emperor entreats Lazareth, the only one who mysteriously can walk into the demonic world of Oblivion, to destroy the Oblivion portals, find the lost heir to the Septim throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel.

It took me about 80 pages to get into this book because I just did not relate to Lazareth at all. I didn't like or trust him. After about 80 pages I started to warm up to him and the story started to get interesting. I still had mixed emotions about Laz: on the one hand, he had spent his entire life as a thief and worse, and on the other hand, he was handed a chance to get out of that negative lifestyle and do something good-and he seemed to jump at the chance. I thought the characters he met along the way were intersting. Mr. Brown's writing style includes a lot of smilies and metaphors, which is normally good, but it seemed like there were almost too many. I thought sometimes it took away from the storyline. I did end up liking the book. There is some language in this book and a lot of violence. Some of the violence is quite graphic. I would recommend it for ages 16 and up. I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I started reading this book thinking that I was going to really like it, but I got disappointed very soon. The more I read, the more I felt I was watching a fantasy videogame. The storyline is repetitive and gets boring after a while, since it is the same pattern once and once again: the hero goes on a mission, he finds a monster, they fight, he wins, he goes on another mission, finds another obstacle, more fighting, the hero goes on on his journey, and again. So after a while you get bored of reading the same thing with different elements. Add to that bombastic words and purple prose. I didn't manage to finish the book. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I didn't find a single typo, and it has been a long time since I read a book without typos.

Oblivion is a story about a young man .. er .. elf that is thrown into some pretty hard spots and find the strength inside himself to overcome them, survive and even help others. It was fun to follow and read the events of Laz's life and see how they help to shape and prepare him even as he was shaping them back in return. And watch him rise above his own misfortunes and still be his own man .. er .. elf.

Okay, Laz is an elf, or dark elf to be exact. And in a world dominated by humans, this makes things more interesting for him. But in the end, it is not what's on the outside, but the strength inside us that makes or breaks us. And Laz has more strength than he knows when he start out this journey to change and save the world he lives in.
