It’s hard to believe that it only takes one split second in time to turn your world completely upside down. Everything that ever made you feel safe and secure; can be gone in an instant...”
Jesse’s world is shattered in that instant…the rest of her life is mapped out by a split second change that she never dreamed could happen. Now she must learn to start living through all of the things that come after.
After suffering a breakdown, Jesse, a shy, awkward, soon to be junior in high school, and her father, decide to make a new start in a new town, hoping to find a tiny piece of the happiness they once knew. She never dreamed that the family living across the street from her new home could change her life in ways she never thought were possible…
Luke thought he had his life figured out. The soon to be senior, thought he had everything; popularity, looks, charm, girls, and an arm that was the envy of every MLB pitcher in the game. The shy, awkward, but way too beautiful girl that moved into the house across the street, was not in his plans.
The story continues with everlasting friendships, love, challenges, and Game Changers that are unexpected in their young lives.
Who knew that even after a tragedy, life can give you more than you ever had before?
L.M. Trio is a wife and mother of two living near the Jersey Shore. She recently published her first book "The Game Changer" and the 2nd book in the series, "The Game Changer: The Final Score."
The story goes on and on and on, and I keep waiting for this shocker that you don't see coming, well it happens and yeah I didn't see it going that way but then the story goes on and on and on again only faster and downhill. Somewhere around 85 percent I'm feeling like yada yada their soooooo perfect yada yada yada everything is great so, gag me with a spoon why don't ya. Anywho the author managed to hook me at the very end. What can I say I'm a girl and I do sooooo love a good groveling and it had better be DAMN good like you'll need a double knee replacement at the end! Do you hear me Luke!!!! on your knees groveling through fire, over miles of broken glass!!!! So yes I will be stalking the author on goodreads waiting on lots of groveling and maybe MAYBE a redemption.
Another book I can't believe got so many positive reviews.
The general idea of it was a pretty good one, but the execution was not. And the story just went on and on and on and on.
I couldn't connect to the characters, making reading this a really difficult task for me. They didn't sound like regular teenagers at all, nor did they act their respective ages, and sometimes they said something in a certain way that just made me cringe.
The writing was off. It was messy and bumpy and it didn't flow. I had to stop and reread a lot of things several times before I understood what the author was trying to say, mostly because the wording and structure of it was confusing.
The timeline was all over the place. One minute you were reading about something that happened in the span of a week, next thing you know it's been over two months or two years since something happened. This made it rather difficult to follow the story and organize what was happening in my head.
Different points of view. They changed inside chapters. One minute you were reading something from Jesse's point of view only to change it to Luke's and than back to Jesse's again. Again, having to change from one mindset to another as you read in matter of a few paragraphs makes it hard to follow what's happening.
The end. Unnecessary drama. It came out of nowhere, it didn't fit the rest of the story, and it was completely out of character for Luke to do what he did. It felt like the author came up with something only so another book could be written.
This was a really disappointing read, and I won't be coming anywhere near the sequel.
Without question, this is a very dynamic story with a chilling and completely unexpected ending. The book and the last few chapters of it could easily spurn a fiery debate about love, lies, truth and justice. It isn't just a story about growing up and accepting loss; it is about friendships, jealousy, fear, love and the brutal realities of life and how truly unfair it can be. Although I refuse to give away any spoilers, I have to say that I woke up the morning after reading this story wondering how many people are suffering the same fate as Luke just because they made that split second decision to get involved and try to do what was right. It really makes you wonder.
I loved how the author wrote Luke. It was incredible to witness the evolution of his feelings for Jesse and how conflicted he was as he tried, in vain, to fight against them. It was a losing battle right from the start. The emotional upheaval he suffers toward the end of the book is crushing.
Jesse is an interesting character – she is so honest and unashamed to ask about the things she doesn't understand and to allow those around her to help her learn even about the most intimate things. I think it was one of the things that made Luke a better man - his ability to talk so openly and honestly with her was truly endearing and it showed the reader just how connected to each other these two were. However, as with most people, Luke is far from perfect and he proves that over and over again especially with the nasty little jealous streak that seems to have him wrapped firmly in its grasp.
The ending was bitter and difficult but if there was no conflict or angst, what would the point of the story be? If they got married, had babies and lived happily ever after without ever having their relationship challenged there would be no point in even writing about them. The twist was brilliant – this kind of incident feels like an urban legend and the aftermath is reminiscent of an old fashioned lynching without the dead tree, horse and hangman’s rope. People have happily fed off of the misery of others for centuries, why should modern day America be any different? Let’s stick it to the rich boy.
Combine this situation with Luke’s crushing guilt, anger and feelings of complete hopelessness and you have a broken man who intentionally pushes away (and he shoves really hard and plays dirty) all the things that make his life great.
I really liked this book. It was very well written with both dynamic and somber relationships, angst, love, conflict and several shades of grief. It will be a painful wait for the next book but I’m sure it will be worth it. Well done!
The writing was ok. The plot was good... The ending SUCKED! In fact the ending RUINED the entire book for me.
It started out with a girl, Jesse.. She had been in a terrible accident with her mother. Her mother dies and Jesse has a brake down. She and her father move after the accident and she starts to live and love again. She and Luke get together and start a life. He is a local baseball hero and gets drafted to the pros. They start to plan a life together after getting through all their issues.... This was the good part.
The ending was TERRIBLE! I read through the whole book only to have The ending of this book made reading it a total waste of time! If this is the authors version of a good ending for a book then I will not be reading another of her works.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
My most favorite book of the year, by far! I don't think anything I say can do this book justice.
This book is an example of why I read paranormal. Though, I like the real-life feel (side story, ie. love, life, friends) of paranormal books, they still don't feel real. Does that make sense? This book felt so real to me and I could relate to a lot in the book.
The characters were the best! So complicated and changing; it was like watching them grow up. The dynamics in the relationships were ever-changing, the story was so very bittersweet, and Luke was super cute and so funny.
I laughed so much throughout this book at the shenanigans the characters got themselves into. I awed and swooned at the lovey aspects. I received ulcers at some points. And throughout most of it, I had a huge grin on my face. Perfect book. All books I've read since this one has been overshadowed by this book. This is one of those books that you can't easily get over, and you'll think about it for weeks afterwards.
Awesome, awesome debut book by a new author! I can't wait to see what else Trio comes up with. I'm a fan for life!
Another dang super duper shocking cliffhanger ending that won't be addressed until June 2013. Oh well, this one knocked it out of the ball park for me and I'll gladly pay the dues and wait for the next book to arrive.
You see, I obviously don't pay attention to details when I should. I read this thinking "It will be awesome. Recommended to me by someone who has awesome taste. Will be a great book." Book. Singular. Yeah, no clue it was going to have another part- therefore floored at that moth#$f*c^ing ending. WTH! Why Luke, why?! I can't even give this a coherent review. It made me go thru way too many emotions in way too short of a span of time. Yeah, I loved it (thanks Kristin!) and absolutely can't wait for the next one.
My heart is in my throat and I'm trying to hold back from crying. But never have I wanted or should I say needed the second book, after reading the first one, so badly but The Game Changer has done this to me. JJ and her dad David decided a change is in order after they both suffered a tragic loss. Upon arriving on Seascape Drive, JJ would have no idea how her life could and would change. Luke and Mikey are some what stars of Bay Point and also live right across the street from David and his daughter, along with Deanna or De, as we come to know her, Luke's sister. But after Luke and JJ meet, what transpires is a breath taking, magical, captivating journey, that I couldn't stop wanting more of. That is until life can suddenly twist and what you know or believe can suddenly change and not for the good. The Game Changer had my attention even before chapter one, the prologue had me sat there with a lump in my throat and I knew then that I was in for an emotional journey that I would grow to love. But the ending... WOW! I'm so relieved there is a book two as I would be in so much more of a state if there wasn't. Can't wait to see what happens between De and Mikey, something has to happen (I hope) I wish I could rate The Game Changer with way more then five stars as it really does deserve it. You need to find out for yourself.....
A few peeves: 1. Jesse goes on and on about how gorgeous her best friend Deanna is. 2. Jesse has absolutely no personality. 3. after Jesse and Luke get together, I got bored out of my mind with their sappy fulfillment. 4. The plot is so damn slow I knew I wouldn't make it to end.
Jesse's got the beautiful and mysterious thing going for her. She's quiet and just learning to live again so she seems so wise and content. Even though she's younger than Luke, she can be quite maternal sometimes with the way she's so patient with him or how she doesn't fall for his games. At the same time, he kind of acts like her older brother.
Luke is a charmer. Everyone loves him and he has a lot of friends and of course he gets around.
Luke - “I don’t have the best reputation when it comes to girls.” Jesse - “That’s not true, Luke. You’re known as the nice pig and Mikey is known as the jerk pig.”
Well. WEll, well, well. Ok, im actually being mean with only a 3 but i didnt feel that it was worthy of a 4. 3.6 maybe. I'm not really sure what to say about this book. It was good. Im a bit of a sucker for the baseball/football high school romance types. Lets see... I liked the start. The start was good. I liked the easy banter between Jesse and Luke that was constant through out the story. At times it actually made me laugh out loud. I think that Mikey and De are meant to be together but theyre too blind to see it. It REEEEEAALY pissed me off. Especially when Jesse was like: HEY I CAN SEE THERES SOMETHING GOING ON YOU SHOULD JUST ADMIT TO IT. and then everybody else is like : *NERVOUS LAUGH* PFFFFT WHAT!? PFFT NO! THEYRE LIEK MY FAMILY PFFFT. yeah no. I think Luke was a little TOO nice for a womanizer and that Jesse had waaaaaaaaaay to many guys asking her out. But regardless of this it was the sex- in some cases literally. The story was good and Jesse's past was well-captured and believable. Throughout the book there was this sense of impending doom or plot twist or whatever its called where something monumentos happens and you have no idea if the characters, who youve of course grown emotionally attatched to, will survive. By 90% i was thinking: SOOOO... IS ANYHING GOING TO HAPPEN OR WILL THEY JUST RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET??
and then BAM!!!
It was really unexpected even though i knew SOMETHING was coming. I never would have guessed! I will definitely buy the next book!
The Game Changer starts out with JJ and her dad moving to a new town to get away from the memories of her mother passing away in a horrible car accident. It had been very hard for JJ to move on from that since she was also in the car with her mom. Once the get to this new town, she starts to make new friends with the people across the street, De, her brother Luke, and Mikey. Luke and JJ get very close through the book, and start to have feelings for each other that go beyond friendship. Neither one of them has every been in a relationship before now, and are a little unsure of what to do next, or what to expect. But they have a wonderful friendship together. Luke and Mikey are also the "town celebrities" they are both very good baseball players, both hoping to play in MLB. I really enjoyed this story. I love how Luke and JJ talk to each other about everything, they really truly are best friends, and it makes their relationship so much better because of this. I was able to feel all of the emotions coming from both of them throughout this book. However in the end, I was seriously thrown for a loop, something so unexpected happened and I was left reeling! I'm a little bit upset with the ending, but I'm looking forward to the next book, The Game Changer Final Score.
Well I've recently re-read this to get it fresh in my mind for the second book. I forgot how much I loved this story- ok that's a little ironic as I had to re-read to get the full gist of it all... however I didn't feel like I was reading old ground, it felt new again and I loved the sweet build up of Luke and Jesse's relationship. It was all sugary sweet and that 'aaah' feeling when suddenly BAM something happens to change both their futures. I like how there are two POVs in the story and we get to see how they each feel.
To summarise- - great relationship build up, chemistry, easy going, openness and communication between the 2 main characters. - great friends on the sideline that have a potential story in the midst.... friends you can depend on and share your secrets with. Funny friends and strong friends. -Adults/Parents- your ideal liberal yet loving and open parents... that are there for you through thick and thin.
Storyline- easy and sweet until something shakes you out of it, leaving you wanting more.
I'm on Book 2 already- I can't stop reading. Lovely writing by L.M Trio- really enjoyed this!
This is more than your typical love story. It's a wonderful story of love, trust, accepting loss and friendship as well as the unexpected twists that come with it.
This was very well written and truly captivating and constantly evolving. It really drew me into the lives of these characters who already had so much going against them.
A completely unexpected ending but now I can't wait to read the sequel
OMG loved this book right till the end and with the shocking twist it has left us with I NEED the next book to be release ASAP Great Characters and cannot wait to see what happens next . A must read :)
Hello, I hope everyone is doing well - it's been too long! I am actually in the process now of re-publishing both The Game Changer and Final Score, with plenty of more books on the way! I've recently begun logging back into all of my accounts and trying to reach out to everyone who has interacted with me in some way over the years. It put such a smile on my face reading through old messages! I just got my Twitter account back @LMLTrio54 - this is where I'll be updating everyone and engaging with you all, so please follow me there for updates. Thank you again for all of the kind words and I can't wait for you to see what's in store next!
The characters are well developed and the whole storyline was intriguing, and as for the ending well that was a was totally blindsided me - something very rare in this genre of book. It's not often I am left wondering "What the hell just happened" when finishing a book. But therein lies the beauty of this book, it quietly draws you in and then BAM the unexpected happens!
The book is quietly beautiful, there, but it just works on so many different levels. The main characters Luke and Jesse combine so well you want them to have their happy ever after and it looks like that is about to happen when the bombshell ending happens. Also the supporting characters of Mikey and Deanna are so strong and massively likeable you feel that there is a book to be written about their story.
I'm so glad I purchased this book and I am now waiting (impatiently) for 'The game changer: the final score' to be released. It's funny but like a lot of people I have been waiting for the sequel to J. Sterling's 'The perfect game' which is also called 'The game changer' to be released and seeing this I bought it on impulse - I found the warning about titles with the same name on the book description of Amazon really endearing! I'm so glad that I did as it was a perfect read and I cannot wait to see what happens next!
this 5 stars for, the book is so good and well written!!!!
the story is about jj who is trying to move on after a horrible accident, she was a loner for a while until they move to a diff house and meet deanna, mikey and luke, who changes her life forever she started to have a life again, their friendship is really beautiful but as the story progress you will fall in love with luke who is very caring and sensitive, the love story of jj and luke is perfect until the unexpected twist.
when you read the prologue it gives you the impression that this is a very emotional book but it suprises me on how the author writes a very deep story but make it light for the readers. i made a lot of waiting for this book, i was waiting for luke to mess up because of his reputation of being a manhore but i get tired of waiting because their relationship is full of love and trust that they can face any challenges. i thought at one time that the progress of the story is really slow but after reading the unexpected twist and i was shocked with the twist i never saw it coming i was waiting for luke to cheat on jj(now i wish that will be the case) you will be thankful that the author gave us a lot of sweet moments of luke and jj.
this is a good book and i think everyone should read it!
So I go and do it again!! I read another book that throws me over the edge!!!! WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF!!!
JJ and her Dad move after a hard year the year before. JJ is shy and doesn't have friends, within hours of them in their new house her dad is already talking to three teenagers, that are neighbours. They kind of get into her space and become her friends straight away, Jess actually feels the best she has ever felt. She loves her new life!!!! After months of back and forth, Luke her neighbour and jj get together!!! Life is pretty prefect!! Every so often jj has this feeling that she was happy before and it all went wrong, it can again!!!
After a lot of reading about their love for each other, u just know that something is going to happen!! After a moment of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, luke and JJ's life is changed. It's pretty much...............BAM cliffhanger!!!!
It's hard to believe it only takes one split second in time to turn you world upside down.
I loved all the characters JJ Luke Deanna and Mikey. It's a great YA novel up until 90% and then it all changes... Fab read
That is NOT the way I wanted it to end!!! I'd sincerely love to kick Luke in the balls right now! And then cuddle and kiss him to make him feel better ha ha
This book had me hooked from the first chapter. It sucked me right in, I laughed, I cried and as you can already tell I got very very angry!!!
“I’d never, ever do anything that would hurt you. That I promise. I’m so happy that we are together right now, I can’t even tell you.”
WHY???????????????
Ok, I need to take a deep breath and wait until April! Don't know if I'm going to be able to get this one out of my head!
“He broke his promise. He said he would never hurt me, he said he would never leave. Against my better judgement, he made me believe in forever again... until now.”
Poor JJ and David. Their world was crushed. David lost his wife and JJ lost her mother...their world was gone. A move for a new job gives them both a chance to heal. Enter a new set of friends. Luke, Mikey and De. De is the best kind of friend a girl could ask for. Luke and Mikey are kind and compassionate. Just what JJ needs. Slowly she becomes a happy girl again and hen falls for Luke...the perfect boy, handsome, funny, and on path to an amazing baseball career right out of high school. Tragedy happens and broke my heart. I can't wait to get to book 2!! I need to know how everyone ends up! Praying for happily ever afters...
An excellent read! I couldn't put the book down because something happens in every "scene"...I just wanted to keep reading!
Jesse has to deal with a lot after a horrible accident and her dad decides to move them to the Jersey shore. The story of healing, growth and change is phenomenal! LOVE IT!
This was a good book. I read it in about a day, but the only doubt I have about it is the cliff hanger it was left on... I mean come on don't do that to me L.M Trio, waiting to see what happened is killing me!
As a baseball lover, I was really excited to read this book. As always, I read through the non spoiler reviews and was a little nervous to start reading. Most were positive but there also quite a few not so good reviews also. I am just glad i read it so long after it came out so i don't have to wait for the next. This book was very emotional and even though it was a cliffhanger ending, I don't think it was bad like so many other reviews. I can't wait to start the next book to find out how Luke and JJs story ends.
