Unattainable

Rate this book
Unreachable. Dell Rosales gained her nickname, “inalcansable,” or “unreachable,’” the old-fashioned way, earning it with every new rip in her heart.

Unwanted. Dell returns home to salvage her father’s ranch by opening the place to a group of girls with problems and pain not unlike her own. With her outlook on love soured--perhaps beyond salvation--she clings to Becky, the tiny little girl whose own mother preferred a life of drugs and men to motherhood.

Unwinnable. Former DEA agent Jovani Treviño has seen that the war isn’t winnable: people keep dying. Drugs keep killing them. But pleas for help from the DEA make him agree to one last battle for the good cause—checking out heiress Dell Rosales, whose ranch on the Rio Grande provides a perfect spot for traffickers to cross if she allows them to.

Unattainable. Suspicions, passion, and their respective pasts draw Dell and Jovi into a tumultuous relationship that both must to avoid. Love seems distant, foolish to seek--unattainable. When an epic flood threatens not only Dell’s ranch but the surrounding area, will anything survive?

In Unattainable by Leslie P. Garcia, everyone, except the troubled teenage girls that stay at her ranch, knows Dell Rosales as a cold and unreachable woman. So when all intelligence points to Dell of using her ranch, which borders Mexico and Texas, to smuggle drugs into the US, very few are willing to believe in her innocence.

Jovani Treviño is undercover, as a last favor to his former job in the DEA, but he has seen the difference in Dell from what she shows others to what she shows the troubled teens. He knows that inside she’s not the cold woman everyone accuses her of being.

Dell has suffered a lot of pain from other people in her life, now all she wants is to save her father’s ranch and helping the group of girls with problems. Read More...

I loved loved loved this book. I felt like I was taking a trip to Southwest Texas every time I opened it. I loved the heroine Dell, who was so layered and strong and intriguing. I loved that she took in troubled girls, but was a savvy businesswoman and a horsewoman. The little girl in me who grew up reading horse books thrilled at the horse-related scenes.

This was a terrific romance!

Leslie Garcia's Unattainable opened my eyes to a part of the world I know little about - mainly the Tex-Mex boarder. Dell Rosales manages her deceased father's ranch. In addition to trying to revive a horse breeding program, she also takes in troubled youth to help them know a life with love. Jovi Trevino comes on board in theory to help with the horses, but really he's trying to help his former DEA colleagues get the skinny on the "Inalcanzable" and her role in a suspected drug smuggling operation. Jovi's desire for justice meets conflict when he discovers Dell is truly unattainable and is in fact desirable. Will he be able to sort out the truth regarding the drug smuggling and Dell?
I loved the setting and the casual nature of Spanish words thrown in conversations, but also how the phrases were always explained. The strong regional voice pulled me in. The relationships between the characters breathed with lived in vitality. Leslie Garcia is one to watch.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

In a word, fabulous! From start to finish this book kept me riveted, caring and hoping – for all involved – and that is because of the tenderness and caring with which Ms. Garcia molded her characters and their storyline. Dell and Jovi each have their strengths and concerns, and both come to the first chapter with baggage, but thankfully, neither is crippled by their past – they’ve learned from it and moved on – refreshing! Their respect for one another, and for everyone they deal with, rings true and bright and should be honored. This book is just plain delightful, sexy, and heartwarming, and gives me hope that there are still people out there like Dell and Jovi. Very well done.

When I read this title, it sounded right up my alley. This book takes place on the Rio Grande boarding Mexico on a horse ranch. It has all the makings of a great romance, guarded gal, broody guy, past heartbreaks but it never quite gets there for me. The book is full of political messages of discrimination and equal rights. While I whole heartedly agree with the author on these points of view, she leans too heavily on racial issues between Anglo and Hispanic and while I liked the characters, Adela "Dell" Rosales and Jovani Trevino, I was never really able to connect with them and get lost in their story. There were a few steamy scenes that gave me hope, because I really was able to feel the connection, then it was gone as soon as it started.

The story is about Dell, who returns to her father's horse ranch after his death. She is an heiress to her father's ranch and estate, which is substantially more than it should have been considering he was divorced and estranged from Dell's mother, Ericka De Cordova, the daughter of the rich and powerful Lionel De Cordova of Monterrey, Mexico. Due to the way Ericka and Lionel treated her father, Dell remained away from both of the cold hearted a

She starts to house girls in trouble, mostly juveniles, but one small little girl who she hopes to eventually adopt. She is jaded and not looking for love, due to her fiancé lying and using her for her families money then killing himself in their home. Her ranch is on prime location for boarder crossing and is under surveillance by the DEA. In comes Jovani "Jovi" Trevino, former DEA agent doing a favor for a friend still on the force.

Jovani has been battling the in the war on drugs for years. Although he decided to retire from the force because he lost heart, he decides to help one last time by investing Dell's ranch for possible drug trafficking happening on her property.

The two are attracted to each other and have a few stolen embraces and kisses, but are always interrupted or "come to their senses" before anything can really progress. Jovani knows she is off limits because she is a suspect in drug trafficking, but also because he is there undercover, therefore lying to her about who he is. Dell has sworn off love for good and doesn't totally trust Jovani, although her attraction to him is undeniable.

It is good read. I would recommend it. It more of a meandering love story than a fast and furious.

3.5 Stars.

I read this book in one sitting, well one night. I thought I'd read a chapter or two before falling asleep and ended up reading the entire book. I finally went to bed at 3:00 A.M.
I loved the setting. Ms. Garcia puts you right in S. Texas. I could feel the sun, the cactus, and smell the tortillas. I loved the bits of Spanish sprinkled throughout. Very authentic and didn't feel forced.
Jovi was hot, very yummy hero. Although Dell was supposed to be cold, I didn't see her that way. She takes in troubled teens and a toddler she wants to adopt.
What kept this from a five star for me was a couple of things:
1. The book was based around an investigation, but there really wasn't much of one. I would have liked to see a little more of that.
2. This is only a personal preference, but the heroine selling off the horses bothered me.
Overall, a strong A. I will read more by this author!

I thought I had a good thing going with these Crimson Romance novels. They're contemporary, and the few that I have read have been "clean." Unfortunately, my streak of clean with Crimson has ended with *Unattainable* and it wasn't pretty. I was about 50% through on my Kindle and WHAM! I get the play by play of the H in the h's bikini bottoms. ICK.

That little journey aside, I thought I was going to slap the heroine. She was extremely wishy-washy and seemed to flip at least twice per chapter. I didn't feel anything other than lust between her and the Hero. What a disappointing waste of time.

I've never set foot in southern Texas - until now. You will feel the blast of hot desert wind, smell the spicy Tex-Mex food, savor the salt breezes of Padre Island, stroke the sweat-stained horses and then ride the wind. I loved the story of Dell and Jovi, and I have only one criticism of this work; please Ms. Garcia, continue their tale in a sequel, because I did not get enough of their story. Not nearly enough.

This story dragged on with little happening. The characters had very little chemistry and quite frankly bored me. The foster girls were a little too well adjusted to be believable, except Maribel, she was a bit cartoonish in her bad girlness. I was disappointed with this book, it just didn't deliver on the interesting promise it made.
