On the heels of cult comic fame for his Runoff series, frog Principal Designer Tom Manning is at work on a new series, Eric. The series is a dark look at the remains of 60’s Americana through the lens of an aging, former folk singer. We’re introduced to Eric when he reenters the public eye in a disastrous breakdown he has on a talk show to promote his Greatest Hits album.
What follows is a drug-induced hallucinatory trip as Eric’s recent media stunt launches him back into the limelight. In this excerpt from the series, we find Eric amid psychedelic paranoia, beginning to witness his multiple realities seeping into one another.
This was such a fascinating story. I love watching Manning's style evolve from "Runoff" to "Eric" and he is definitely redefining his own hybrid style with each new book. A full review to come, but in the meantime if you're looking for a weird and beautiful story, definitely check this one out.
