Monster: Book One

Rate this book
It’s been years since Siris and Julian’s boy band broke up and they all went their separate ways. Now they’ve run in to each other in a little redneck bar in the middle of nowhere, coming face to face with the ghosts of their past and the feelings they never quite grew out of. Siris is here handing out golden tickets to some new reality tv show for the network that owns his record label. Julian is here to meet up with yet another new partner. On the surface it seems like a coincidence… or is it? Neither man is happy when they realize that The Parliament means for Siris to be Julian’s new partner. Julian worries about what he could do to Siris. Siris just wants to go back to being a mega popstar and has no interest in being a monster hunter. Thrown together against their will (and better judgement) how will these former friends do on their first case?

Wow! What a surprise. This book came highly recommended by a writer friend so I gave it a try and I’m glad I did. I couldn’t stop reading it, there are so many aspects, it’s enticing, gripping and feels almost dangerous. There is deception, psychological turmoil and clever twists.

Monster: Book One by Dani R.R. Hermit and Nevi Star is something of a creative fusion. The writers have developed an exciting blend of erotica, mystery and paranormal. The main characters, Siris and Julian, are fascinating and complex. And the page flies! Check out the detailed description above for an idea of the storyline and be warned the sex is not heterosexual nor typical.

Don’t be shy about this book, the excitement goes far beyond the steamy scenes, this is a mysterious and original story that demands to be told across multiple books and maybe crossing into other series, I can’t wait for more. Even the cover screams this book is different. And different in the exotic and strangely fun kind of different. Go on the adventure . . . you’ll have a wild time!

"WARNING: The books in the Parliament of Twilight series are intended for mature readers with enough sense to know the difference between erotic fantasy and reality. There are some scenes of violence, gore, and/or horror movie like creepiness that not all readers will appreciate."

When I picked up this book, I did not see this warning. So it came as a suprise after reading the tame blurb, that this book is pretty graphic and not a reunited romance novel.

I kind of liked Monster. I don't ever pick up horror books, but this was more descriptive than gruesome. It also ends with a small cliffhanger, sort of the end of a scene then...cut.

My warnings: There is a very rough sex scene that turns dub-con, sexual acts while in partial shifter form, lots of violence.

Monster is a graphic world of paranormal activity, sex, humour, and a really twisted method of finding agents for the organization that deals with all the things that go bump in the night.

Monster is the story of Julian and Siris. They were part of a boy band years ago, but time, fears and the world separated them. Now, they are set to be partnered agents, something neither man knows. To add to the problems, each is unwilling to deal with their feelings. Siris goes so far as to take someone else home with him, straining an already tenuous hold of fate on these two.

Graphic and imperfect, the characters and story drew me in and refused to let go even once the last page was done. I loved the characters and felt their fear, passion, pain, and joy. If you love gritty paranormals then this book is a must read! Book #2, Inertia, is due out in June and I can’t wait *You meet the MC in Monsters.

As a heterosexual man I would never has chosen to read this book if it were not for the recommendation from a friend. As expected from a book of this genre, there are scenes of gay erotica and while they held no interest for me I still recognize them as being well written passages. However, the paranormal or supernatural concepts in this book I found very original and intriguing. There are some great examples of alternative vampires, an interesting play on the zombie elements and overall intriguing monster concepts. There are some nice cloak and dagger aspects which involve a secret parliament which the main characters, Julian and Siris, are regretful to be aligned with yet unable to shake off their association. Monster: Book One is a well paced paranormal adventure which I am glad to have discovered and I eagerly look forward to reading Book Two.

Graphic m/m sex, vivid, imperfect characters and a sense of humor are what it took to build the first release of the Parliament of Twilight world. This book is about Julian and Siris, a pair of long separated friends who have been struggling with their feelings for each other since they first met on the reality show that built their now defunct boy band. But that wasn't all that was built on the set of Boyz. The Parliament of Twilight was using the show to scout for new Agents, which they found in the five young men who won the show.

Now, five years later, Julian has been sent to find his newest partner while Siris is handing out invites to the newest Wolf Productions reality spectacle. They just happen to be in the same bar on the same night. But when it comes to the Parliament of Twilight, there are no coincidences.

Rather than facing his past, Siris chooses to go home with the sexy bartender, Skye instead of talking to Julian. But Skye has secrets of his own - dangerous secrets that draw out Siris's true nature and turns the pop idol's world upside down. (Sidenote: Skye's story is the main plot line of Inertia, due out in June 2013)

Broken and unsure of his fate, Siris is rescued by Julian and thrust unwillingly back into the world of the Parliament. What will happen as they set out on their first case together since the band broke up? Will Siris's secret endanger both their lives? And what about Julian, who holds a deadly secret of his own?

I found this story to be amazing as well as totally absorbing. It is a book which is difficult to category despite the explicit sexual content.

The main characters: Julian and Siris are vivid and complex, both have their hidden desires and frailties. They are very real and their tale is delicately woven. I found it difficult to choose which one I was drawn towards most and wanted them both to be able to find happiness in themselves and with each other.

Unlike other books with this degree of explicitness there is a great plot here which is embedded in a world of fantasy and mythology with different characters having strange yet recognisable features. The story is well-written and the characters are brought to life vividly, drawing on the reader's empathy and interest.

A very well written paranormal/erotic same-sex story of Sirius and Julian’ two half-human creatures although with very different non-human sides. Both have secret desires and fears. The intense, graphic sex scenes will not be for everyone, having said that they are exceptionally well written and I thoroughly enjoy Hermit’s graphic imagination. I usually judge a book by how long it takes me to read it and I admit I read this in one afternoon. By the end you are wrapped in the lives of the two main characters and the ending will leaving you wanting for book 2! Not for children or youths. Definitely a book for mature adults with open minds. A wonderful and erotic ride to the very end.

The author was successful in the creation of characters, albeit monsters, with some unique physical/metaphysical attributes, as well as amazingly complex psychological issues. The quasi-human main characters, Siris and Julian, have a history that adds to their current circumstance and creates a multifaceted relationship. Definitely a sexually explicit read, Monster managed a sensuality that I found surprising.

I found "Monster" to be a well written, easy to read paranormal novel, with a distinctive plot and good character development. Based on the storyline and the complexity of the characters, it deserves five stars.

This is the first time I’ve read anything from Hermit and Star and I’m happy I invested the time. This is an erotic same-sex romance story, with elements of horror thrown in for good measure – this was a another first time for me! The characters develop well and the storyline does more than enough to keep you interested. This is definitely not a book for children, but for consenting adults, this is an original tale that’ll keep you entertained throughout.

I have never read a book quite like this before and it will not be my last. I enjoyed every second of it. It was action packed and it had some very steamy scenes that I found myself rereading just to absorb all of the information. The story flowed well and the characters were awesome. They were all connected in some sort of strange way and after being apart for so long, fate or Parliament at its finest. Can't wait to see how it all plays out in the end. Great book and a must read!

I really found this book to be enjoyable, I found it to be very intriguing. This book has explicit sex scenes between two men and some graphic violence, so it might not be for everyone but I did really enjoy this book. I found it to be intriguing and well written, I didn't want to put it down.

Did Not Finish. I think this book was trying for mysterious, but I alternated between bored and annoyed. The whole boy band with a secret, paranormal purpose really didn't work for me either. I tried to go back and finish this book several times, but there are too many other better books competing for my attention.
