Long Term Evolution: A concise introduction to LTE and its measurement requirements

Rate this book
Long term evolution (LTE), the first completely packet-oriented mobile radio standard, sets new benchmarks in wireless communications and opens up additional areas of application. Date rates of more than 100 Mbit/s (up to 1 Gbit/s with LTE-Advanced) and short latency times provide ideal conditions for demanding mobile data applications.

This is achieved through the intelligent and flexible linking of powerful technologies such as OFDM transmission, FDD and TDD duplex methods, MIMO multiple antenna concepts and various modulation methods. In addition to its high transmission capacity, LTE's major advantage over earlier concepts is its flexibility. Not only does it provide dynamic resource handling during a connection, LTE's flexible channel configuration allows it to be elegantly and efficiently adapted to the provider's available frequency bands.

The book written by Christina Gessner focuses on the radio access network and the radio aspects of LTE, i.e. the air interface from the mobile station and base station point of view. The numerous sophisticated technologies that interact here require highly complex test verification of all network system components, in all phases of development and production. The first part of the book covers the basics of air interfaces. The second part takes a look at these tests, especially those required to test compliance in line with 3GPP specifications.

The content is well-structured and to the point, providing a quick overview of the entire T&M portfolio. This book is intended primarily as a quick reference guide for wireless communications experts in industry and education who need a compact source of information for everyday use.
