Sunny Day's main preoccupation in life is reading and/or writing books, though she much prefers reading what someone else wrote. She is thirty something, single, and can usually be found attached to her laptop. Her only form of exercise is bouncing up and down when whatever story she is working on shapes well.
3.5 but not rounding up because TEN FREAKIN' YEARS!!
I could've probably let five years go but ten is crazy, especially to immediately then have sex. I had to wipe that from my mind to enjoy this book - and I did enjoy it which is why it's extra annoying. In fact I probably liked it best of the series but ten years. . . . nope. Too unbelievable to let pass. The whole time in my mind I downgraded it to be around four years. I figured late mate recognition around 19,20 the dumb dickass move and then a few years apart getting established in chosen careers. But ten years is nuts for such a dumb reason. Crazy. And it is irritating because I liked the writing, the angry confused emotions were well described, the action was good and we finally got to see proper Silver Moon pack stuff. But ten years people. Nuh-uh.
Gah. Reading this did not really give me happy feelings.
Ned? Oh, Ned proved interesting enough, as anticipated. Zack however can go straight to hell. The reasons for his past and present behaviour are not convincing me that he’s a decent kind of guy and the way he actually treats Ned here is beneath contempt.
It is interesting to note that in this series the wolves seem to have an abysmal sense of smell. I mean even a normal human being should be able to smell it if he walks into a room where a minute ago two guys had orgasmic, sweaty sex. But this wolf? Nope. And that is just one example. It’s all nice and good to later comment on that, claiming they must have noticed right away, but the fact that no one gave it a thought or even remotely hinted at it earlier does not exactly lend credence to that assertion.
So this turned out to be a sexuality and closeting issue again, like in the previous book. This one had a bit of plot besides. As if to counterbalance that, the previous volume’s repressed hero was trying much harder to get past his issues, was making a true effort, which endeared him to me. This guy now, Zack? He does not try at all. He acts on impulse and pushes and sulks and rages and is generally being a self-centered jerk. I fully understand Ned’s somewhat brittle and bitter responses. Clearly, Zack does not deserve him.
And that’s why this book does not quite work for me. I generally am fond of this author’s heroes, but then we get a few exceptions like Zack here. Blah.
Another thing is that this focuses too much on the sexual connection alone. What about the friendship they used to share? What about current emotional ties? Everything invariably not only boils down to lust but even starts with that as well. Why can neither look upon the other with longing and caring and anything deeper like that? Why does it have to be hunger each time?
The sad truth is that I am relatively glad there’s not more of this series at the moment, since both guys who have been set up as future heroes (not together) appear to be closet/denial cases as well. I guess I really like it better when this author does not use that particular element to carry the plot.
I just could not like this book. I liked the first two in the series, but I could barely finish this one. I had to make myself finish this one. The story didn't flow for me, and one of the MC's was a total jerk. Actually I didn't care for either MC. No real story and a quick meaningless resolution. I will still read this author. I've liked the author's other books.
I never thought I would hate two characters more than I hated Ned and Zack. I love characters, even evil slimy guys who you're supposed to hate but Ned and Zack were the bottom of the barrel.
The basis for the story is very simple, just like books one and two, which means that the characters and their relationship should carry the book. That didn't happen.
Zack treated Ned beyond shitty. I would actually call what he did mentally abusing the man. Then Ned just let it happen. The emotional pain being thrust on the man was extraordinary and I was surprised he didn't try to commit suicide but he didn't even rail against it. He just accepted it and I don't understand at all why he accepted Zack back into his life.
Both characters were just way too unlikable and I couldn't help viewing their relationship as abusive.
I had a lot of trouble liking Zach.. he walked away from his mate. the reason didn't even seem like a good one. Yes he overreacted. But to take THAT much time and wait for chance to throw them together... I think if it wasn't for the time frame I'd be... ok ... with him. The rest of the story.. I actually did like for the most part. Now there are two characters that would like to see.. Another closet case Trey and Donavon. who are their mates?
Oh and not enough background info on Ned's job.. it was touched on in a previous book but this one just blew by what makes him an Uploader. and what IS an Uploader? I don't remember that being fully explained.
