Allie Marshall, PA student, and Dr. Donovan Callahan have overcome such intense drama in their short relationship. Dealing with thoughts of Claire, his ex who sits in jail for murdering her husband, to Allie's secret past, has been extremely stressful. From the day they met, it has been hot and heavy; both of them giving into their wants and needs. The pair have thrown caution to the wind and ...just went with their hearts. All seems well, finally, and Allie is letting go of her insecurities, which could ultimately threaten to be her downfall. That is, until someone from Donovan's past decides to make a surprise and unwelcome appearance at a wedding the couple attends. A shocking announcement is made that will force Allie to question everything about Donovan-- his honesty, his character, even his feelings for her. Will this be the final straw, or will this be a test of strength of their feelings for each other?
AC Marchman lives in Virginia with her husband Dan and their three children, Hannah, Jacob and Sarah. By day, she is a wife, mommy, and an x-ray tech for a doctor's office. By night (and nap time) she is a writer. She loves spending time with her family. She also loves to read. Her favorite authors being EL James, Sylvia Day, James Patterson, and Tess Gerritsen.
For those of you waiting for the release of Stay With Me by AC Marchman I can promise you that it is completely worth the wait! If you have not yet had a chance to read Overwhelm Me, read it...the Callahan series is FABULOUS! I was a little late to the party as I only recently read Overwhelm Me so I was lucky that I didn’t have to wait long for Stay With Me! Allie and Donovan are still one of my favorite book couples.
Stay With Me continues on with Allie and Donovan trying to figure out their relationship. There is such a deep connection felt between these two characters, again AC Marchman writes some amazing hot and sexy love scenes. You can feel the love and passion between these two characters which, in my opinion makes this a HOT read ;-) During a trip to Donovan’s family home their relationship is put to the test, hearts and trust will be broken. Is their love strong enough when put to the test? I can’t wait for you to meet the new characters in the story, especially Donna ;-)
I absolutely LOVED Stay With Me, if you are looking for a romantic and sexy read this it. I was so invested in the story and the characters that I had to know what happened next. I loved the mystery surrounding Claire, I honestly was not expecting any of it! It gave a whole new level to the story, thank you AC Marchman for keeping me on my toes. Stay With Me played with my emotions, but I can promise there was no book hangover here!! I felt that there was just the right amount of heartache and angst. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I love a book that can tear me up but for the most part I want a book that leaves my emotions intact when I’m finished reading it and Stay With Me did just that. I can’t wait to see where the next book in the Callahan series takes Allie and Donovan!
Stay with Me (Callahan Series Bk 2) by AC Marchman Review
5 Stars!!
First let me tell you, this is the second book in a series and you MUST read the first book Overwhelm Me first. So if you haven't...even though this is spoiler free...I insist you read book 1 first! (Links on bottom)
Stay with Me starts off where Overwhelm Me ended. Allie Marshall and Dr. Donovan Callahan are on their way to his family vineyard for a visit and a close friends wedding. What they didn't expect was for there to drama, drama, drama. Let me tell you, no one likes drama but as a reader...HELL YEA!!
Poor Allie has quite the past. The poor girl has such a good head on her shoulders but seriously shitty things just keep happening to her. When she finally finds Donovan and their relationship takes off, things are looking up. People spend their lives searching for the connection these two have with each other. They have such a pull that you can't not want them together. Yes, Donovan has a past...a playboy past, but Allie wasn't there so who cares right?
When you want nothing but your past to go away, it seems to follow you with a vengeance, and yup, of course that's what happens to Donovan and Allie. Claire....the Evil Bitch of all evil bitches...wants one thing...Donovan. Yes, she is still in jail for killing her husband but that doesn't mean she doesn't have just as evil minions.
I feel so bad for Donovan. You can tell he is so into Allie. Believe when I tell you, this guy is H.O.T. The two of them can't keep their hands off each other and whoa is it sexy, sexy sexy. AC Marchman knows how to write some seriously steamy scenes. She always makes you feel as if your there (not in a creepy hovering while they do it way), the way she describes what's happening just makes your squirm. LOVE IT!!
In Stay with Me we meet Donovan's family. His sweet, loving, laid back younger sister Megan. His oblivious but sweet father Rob and the evil stepmother Donna...she puts Cinderella's step mom to shame. There are also his really nice friends and not so nice friends from high school. We also get to meet a sweet little boy also but I'll let you find out who that is. The two of them are faced with some seriously shitty situations that make you want to grab both of them by the ear and lecture them like a parent. Lol
Stay with me has left me a bit rambly (not a word I know) but in a good way. I also didn't realize there was another chapter since my ipad decided to act like a fool...let me tell you. That last chapter let me in this condition...a big rambling mess!
Please please please read Stay with Me!!! You will not be disappointed, it has everything a good book needs. Hot guys, sweet girls that are totally relatible, DRAMA, fighting, SEX, SEX SEX, sweet moments, and oh yea, hot guys and sex
This is the second book in the series, therefore you have to have read Overwhelm Me first!!
Stay With Me starts where Overwhelm me finished and Allie Marshall and Dr Donovan Callahan are still in a relationship, as new as it is…although still very intense and very overpowering at times..they really cannot be without each other.
The time has come for Allie to meet the family and whilst on their journey down to the family’s vineyard and home Donovan breaks it to Allie that in fact he is also going to a wedding whilst he is there and she will be going with him..he is actually a groomsman…Allie is WTF!! Why didn’t you tell me..he said because you would have said no! and so Allie is no on her way to meet the family and to attend the society wedding of the year and she has nothing to wear! They stop off, get a dress and then she has to meet the parents!! Well Dad, sister and evil step mother!!
Donovan’s father is so sweet, he is actually so loveable and takes to Allie straight away, his sister is the same, however, the evil step mother “Donna” (ouch that is my name ) is one totally different kettle of fish!! She is mean and evil and does everything she can to frighten away and intimidate Allie. The thing is, as we know from Overwhelm Me, these two are totally connected to each other..the chemistry, the pull, the desire etc etc etc means that they are totally inseparable, always in bed together, have a very active sex life (cough cough) AC Marchman certainly turns up the heat on these two!!) and the way they are written is like a moth to a flame, you almost feel like a voyeur as you are that close…although you are not…but it is like a magnetic pull to the characters! Donna does not anticipate Allie being so strong and so head over heels with Donovan or for Donovan to be the same..although a few of her cutting remarks certainly hit home to Allie!
Claire “the ex” is still languishing in jail during this book, however, it looks like things maybe moving on this point…skeletons are revealed in a not so great way, leaving Allie reeling and leaving…can Donovan explain and get things back on track with Allie??
We meet Allie’s son in this book and he is totally adorable…what happens between him and Donovan is heart wrenching and the way those two connected was powerful. I was so glad that Donovan stayed and gave Allie the space and time that she needed and eventually let him explain his side…as we all know there are always two sides to every story..
The last chapter was OMG!!! Yes it is another cliffie of sorts, but nothing major…just one of those that leaves you wanting more and quickly!! Hopefully, AC Marchman, can get a turbo charged pen and write it quickly as I really want to see these two get their HEA…they have always fought against their pasts…now I want to see them fight for their future!
I LOVED it!!!! I wasn't to kind with my review of " Overwhelm Me" as I was a tad bit bored with parts of it, sorry AC Marchman. I feel this second book in the Callahan Series made up for it plus it showed me how you were setting up the characters for this book/series. Please, anyone starting this series, hang in there, it gets better if you want some good drama along with a nice love story. I keep liking Alley and Donovan more all the time. Ready for the next book!!!!
I love this story, book two will not disappoint you! It totally sucked me into the story with the perfect amount of angst, hot scenes and nail biting situations.. Deffinately add to your must read list!
I recently read Overwhelm Me by A.C. Marchman and knew I had to read Stay With Me. It was an ending I wasn't going to forget about and move on from! So, I was super happy to know that Stay With Me is available. A.C. Marchman sent me a copy of Stay With Me and I dug into it as soon as I could. The characters... our main two characters are Allie and Donovan. While I like them both quite a bit, I had some trouble with the quickness of their relationship. It just seemed sooo fast to me. I know it is about knowing who you love and "fate", if you will, but it was so quick for me. That is beside the point though.. together they are good and that is what matters. They have an intense relationship both in the bedroom and out of it. I worried from time to time that their relationship is a purely physical one but by the end of Stay With Me, that feeling is not as strong.
Allie is a really intelligent girl but she really acts like a ditz sometimes, in my opinion. I want her to be an assertive and strong-minded woman. By the end of Stay With Me, she seems to get that back and you see glimpses of it from time to time throughout the book. I think the problem is twofold... one, her past is not a pretty one. Her ex-boyfriend is a real jerk and did her wrong on so many levels. Her trust issues are deep and troubling. Two, she is so head-over-heels for Donovan that she seems to let him get away with shit he shouldn't (in my opinion). She takes his answers at face value instead of questioning him. Like I said, by the end of this book, she seems to have a better handle on her emotions and speaks up for herself more and it makes me happy.
Donovan seems like a dream to me. I am not sure who I picture him as but I guarantee it is someone HOT. The way A.C. Marchman portrays him is as a handsome, self-assured man which I just love. I love that he is a doctor too but not one that is self-centered. He has a life outside of his practice and he loves with all of himself. His relationship with Allie was super sweet and he seemed to really go out of his way to make her happy. This is a trait that I just loved. I hated though that he lied to her and continued to do so. I wanted to somehow tell him how much he was messing up, especially with someone like her who has trust issues to begin with.
This book had a lot of ups and downs in it. You get to meet Jackson (I'm not telling who he is!) and all of the members of both families in this book. It makes for some very interesting scenes. The one other person I want to mention in this review is Donna. Donna is Donovan's stepmother and a person I couldn't stand from the first moment we are introduced to her. She was such a wicked, evil person. I am sure she will have a large part in the next book because of how Stay With Me ended. I was totally taken by surprise at the ending of this one... like totally! That is a big thing for me because I am notorious for guessing how things go and A.C. Marchman really threw me for a loop with this one.
I am so looking forward to book 3 in the Callahan Series. If it is anything like the first two books, I am sure to enjoy it. I gave Stay With Me 4.5 shining stars. This book has a lot of story and character development so you need to pay attention as you read but it is worth your time! I read this book in a short day because it held my attention and wouldn't let go!
I have to say that Stay With Me really blew me away. I thought that A.C. did a incredible job with Allie and Donavan's story in the second book in the Callahan series. It was a lot more intense for me then the first book. I absolutely hands down loved this book.
The book starts when Allie and Donovan are headed to Georgia. Donovan is bringing Allie to meet his family. His best friend is getting married and he has decided at the last minute to tell Allie about it. She is very nervous about meeting his family. They are rich and respectable. Not what Allie is used to. She loves Donovan so she agrees to attend the wedding as well meet his family. Everything has been perfect for them. Allie is finally letting go of her insecurities, she trusts Donovan. She has fallen in love with him. He doesn't know that though, she refuses to tell him. She is afraid because the last time she did with her ex Matt, well he sort of broke her heart. They are enjoying themselves during their trip. Allie is getting along so well with Donovan's father and sister. They all are bonding together as a family, well until Donavan's evil stepmother comes into the picture. She is a snake, and Allie doesn't trust her. Everything comes crashing down during the wedding festivities when an unwanted friend from Donovan's past ruins it all. After everything they have been through will Allie be able to forgive some very important truths that have been kept from her?
Allie and Donovan are easily one of my favorite couples. She is so sweet, kind, loving, and patient. Exactly what Donovan has been looking for all his life. Unfortunately Donovan's ugly past is never far behind. Thank goodness he doesn't have to worry about Claire interfering with his relationship, or so he thinks. That women is working on something big and Donovan is her prize. That women is bad news with a capital B. Now I think Donovan is pretty awesome himself he is smart, caring, strong, and he seems to put Allie's happiness before his own. Yeah, he kinda loves her so that is to be expected. His father did an excellent job raising him he is the perfect gentlemen. I have to say I can understand why Allie is a bit sensitive and apprehensive. Allie has been through so much that she expects things in her life to go awry. So she over reacts a tad and now it's time for Donovan to step up and prove to her that he is the man she deserves. So you can expect a lot of swoon worthiness from Dr. Donovan Callahan. Honestly I fell in love with him all over again. So the story is starting to get interesting. Their are a lot of unknown mysteries that are going to be revealed. You will definitely be intrigued.
This is another must read for the year. Everything starts to unfold during this book. You will definitely want to stay tuned for the next book. I have to say with everything said you will want to read it just for the hot and steamy passion between these two. It is quite endearing to say the least. I think I may just give it another read, you know just so I didn't miss anything. You won't want to miss a moment between Allie and Donovan trust me.
Stay With Me is the second book in the Callahan series and it picks up where Overwhelm Me leaves off. Donovan and Allie are now months into their relationship and things are going well….UNTIL!!!
Yep, you know it can’t be all perfect for them. It’s time for Donovan to take Allie home to meet his dad and evil step mom, and to Allie’s surprise, Donovan’s best friend is also getting married that weekend. So not only does Allie have to deal with step-mommy but she also is going to be introduced to all Donovan’s friends. That is a lot for one weekend and I was feeling stressed for her.
And she should be worried. Not everyone is happy about Donovan and Allie’s relationship. All those secrets that Donovan has been holding in for the right moment to tell Allie….they come out!!! And not by his choice…. lesson learned. Tell the truth sooner rather than later. So, of course, Allie and Donovan have some hurdles to get over but I think they can do it. The love between them is obviously there and if people would stop getting in their way, they can be happy. But, their exes may be the end of them if they don’t stick together and be honest.
Overall, I enjoyed this story and it was a good continuation from Overwhelm Me, but there were parts that I felt needed a little more detail or parts that needed less detail. I must admit, I am ready to see where this is going with Claire and I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get more about her yet. But, the ending makes me think that that is all coming out in the next one….I hope!! I personally love a book that starts off with a bang, so it took me longer than normal to become intrigued. The beginning is a lot about Donovan and Allie’s relationship (which isn’t a bad thing) but I needed that BANG. At around 40-50%, though, the drama starts and that was where it sucked me in more.
“I love you, Allison Marie Marshall. I should have told you before all this went down. I held it in, worried about telling you and you running off. If I would have told you all of this before, maybe you wouldn’t have left me standing there. “
Yeah, that’s all sweet and he pulled out the big guns with “I love you” but in my opinion Donovan got off way to easy when it came to his lies. I know Allie loves him but she needed to make him suffer a little longer. Lying is a big deal and Allie had already been burned in her past with lies. And then she didn’t even demand to hear the truth from him…WTH?!? They kissed and made up with hardly no explanation at all….I don’t think so!!! He needed to explain himself and then BEG for forgiveness. “If you loved me, why did you lie?”…..AMEN sista!!! Now don’t just jump back in the bed with him! But, she can’t resist him(and I can’t say I blame her).
Enough rambling about how I wanted to string Donovan up by his balls ;) If you read Overwhelm Me, you need to check out Stay With Me. And if you haven’t read Overwhelm Me, what are you waiting for?!?
4.5 stars!! I really really liked this book...more than the first one, Overwhelm Me. Not to say I didn't like the first one, but this one felt different in a few ways. I'll try to explain.
As I mentioned in the review I did for Overwhelm Me, there is the "insta-love" feel to it, and that turns some readers off. Unless it's poorly written (which Overwhelm was not) I try to just fall into the story, because these books don't always have to feel like reality...that's kind of the point. To fall into a space where things you never thought possible could happen. The great thing with how the first book was written, was the insta-love didn't feel fake. The pull and connection between Donovan and Allie could almost be felt, even if it didn't seem realistic at times. After reading this book, I could see that Overwhelm Me was the build up of their meeting and deep connection to each other, in a short period of time. It set up some of their pasts (especially Donovan) and at the end, when you think the shit is getting ready to hit the fan, you end knowing the next book, it most certainly will.
I love Donovan and Allie together...I loved their crackle and sizzle in the first book. Things happen in this book to threaten that. Donovan did what he did with the best of intentions. You WANT to see and feel their HEA, and you get a peek of that by the end of the book. There is just so much shady stuff that has gone down between his ex, his step mom, decisions his dad made, and I NEED to get all my questions answered. I feel I will in the next book. The cliffhanger isn't a romantic one.
Claire...I'm not sure I've ever actually been scared for a heroine in the books I'm reading, but I kinda am for Allie, lol. Freakin' Claire is the president of the bat-shit crazy club, and that was from behind bars. I'm now dying to know what in the hell will go down in the next book. (I need that release date btw, thank you!:) I hope somehow Donovan is packing heat when it all goes down in book 3, or at the very least, owns a taser! And Donna...I'll admit, I didn't see that coming until towards the end. Not going to spoil it by details, but know this book, series, is more than just insta-love romance. It has drama, secrets, surprises, crazy ass ex's, and suspense. I overall felt like the books was just written better than the first. More detailed, the flow was even better, and the character development was taken to another level. Congrats Ms. Marchman, you've got me hooked. Now please don't make us wait months for the 3rd book!
***IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOOK #1, Overwhelm Me, DO SO FIRST***
New, up and coming indie-author AC Marchman is an author you will grow to love as you read her first 2 books in the Callahan Series. Book #2, Stay With Me, picks up right where book #1, Overwhelm Me, left off, taking you on another journey of love, trials, angst, self-discovery, and drama, drama, drama.
In book #2, Stay With Me, the main character’s stories develop much more and you get a glimpse in to more of Donovan’s past life growing up, and his “relationship” with Claire, and what helped make him in to the strong, successful young man he is now. There are introductions of new characters that aid in Donovan’s journey to move on from his past, whether in a positive or negative way, so he can focus on a future with Allie. But will his past prove to be too much for Allie to handle once she’s faced head on with the complete truth of Donovan’s past and his involvement with the infamous Claire Dubois?
Allie still holds true to the trusting, caring, wears-her-heart-on-her-sleeve, huge hearted, loving young lady that she proved to be in book #1. She is still very nervous and cautious of hers and Donovan’s fast paced relationship, but she wants to believe it’s all meant to be but still can’t throw caution to the wind in order to protect her already fragile state of self worth and her extra fragile heart.
Donovan is a man after every woman’s heart. He is doing everything he can think of to prove his love and devotion to Allie but it seems like around every corner is a new piece of a puzzle he thought he’d shelved many years ago to throw more doubt and questions in to Allie’s mind and heart. But he is determined to make her his and prove his heart is truly hers.
AC Marchman is a force to be reckoned with. She is honing in on a very special gift she has of writing and we just happen to be lucky enough to have her share it with us. She has a special knack of drawing you in from the first few pages and keeps you holding on until the end, hoping nothing “important enough” comes up and causes you any interruptions until you get to the very last page, and then she leaves you wanting even more. Strong character development , relatable emotions and situations are a few of the main things I look for I the books I read and this series is not lacking. I loved this book, as well as the first book, Overwhelm Me, and I absolutely cannot wait to read the third book. I tip my hat to you, Marchman, and wish you nothing but the best of success in your talented future.

Beccas Books Review:
Stay with Me is the second book of the Callahan series by the talented author AC Marchman, its a wonderful second book.
Allie is all in with Donovan, she knows that she cares for him deeply and possibly loves him, but when things start coming to light, things she has been asking about that he hasn't told Allie, things that could effect her and the people that she loves the most.
Donovan knows that he needs to tell Allie the truth about the things in his past. Especially his past with Clair, but he thinks that he has time since she is sitting in her jail sell for killing her husband. Donovan takes Allie home to meet the parents, he knows better then to leave Allie alone with his Step mom Donna, but when he is forced to and Allie is missing he knows that he needs to find her before more damage can be done.
we see a different side of the characters in this book, there is a lot of emotion things between Allie and Donovan, truths that need to be said by both of them, I love the parts of the book when they are at Allie's mom's house. and the interaction with Allie's son Jackson.
I hope we get the next book in the series soon, because I can't wait to find out what happens. especially since Ms. Marchman left us with a great ending.
Oh yeah!!!! 5 freakin stars for AC Marchman and another 5 for this 2nd installment of the Callahan Series. AC wrote this story with so much finesse that everything in it fits perfectly in the story. If you love Overwhelm Me then you sure will enjoy and devour Stay With Me in one sitting. Coz I did.
I like that this book starts where we left off in OM. We see Allie & Donovan’s relationship develops into something more and how they got past the whole drama. I’m not much into the whole drama scene of any story or any books out there but drama makes a story more exciting, thrilling and sometimes a bit irritating but what did AC Marchman did in this book is more than the drama you want to read in a book. It fits so perfectly in this story and it made the whole scene more entertaining and interesting. It’s not the kind that you’re head will hurt but the kind that makes you not want to stop reading. The whole thing was awesome!
The relationship that Allie & Donovan is something worth fighting for and something that’s intensely deep. Reading their story is so satisfying. AC did an amazing job writing their story with so much love to feel and give. If you’re a sucker for not so cheesy romantic relationships then you will like what Allie & Donovan have.
The twist before the last part of the book is something I suspected but not thought it would really happen. I want more answers. The connections and all that and why they did what they did. Of course, there’s book 3 and I am so sure it’s going to be action packed. Secrets will be revealed, I guess and something bad will happen to one of our lead characters. I am betting my pretty ass that it’s going to be Allie.
I was one of the lucky ones to receive an advance copy of Stay with Me and WOW sums up this book.
Stay with me is the second installment of the Callahan Series. Since being left with a cliff hanger in Overwhelm Me, Stay with Me picks up right were Overwhelm Me left off. We get more inside the relationship of Allie and Donovan, if you weren't rooting for them in the first book for whatever reason, by the end of Stay with me you will be rooting for them.
They have this magnetic pull with each other that most of us dream to find and aspire to have. Allie seems to react before thinking things through, however what women doesn't? So I say she is one character the majority of women can relate too. She is strong and her love for Donovan at times is questionable, but overall they are soul mates and meant to be together.
During this book, you will see what Donovan's family is like. His sister is down to earth and very likable. His dad seems like a strong man, but there is a crack within his armor. Donna gives evil stepmother a whole new twist of cray-cray-crazy, after reading about her and her antics I began to wonder if there was/is a connection between Crazy Donna and Crazy Claire?? Don't worry readers, A.C. Marchman didn't forget about the not so lovable crazy with a capital C, Claire.
Claire is an unwelcome source to be reckoned with throughout the book, even from jail she is in major need of some therapy sessions. Will she get out of jail or stay in jail and cause even more havoc...I guess you have to do some reading to find out. ;)
This book is one to read, if you loved Overwhelm Me you will ABSOLUTELY love Stay with Me. I personally can't wait to read the next installment to the Callahan series. A.C. Marchman, you have a lifetime reader out of me!
I liked this book alot. I think that AC Marchman did a wonderful job.
The first part is a little slow but it picks up very quickly and than it is over and you go from happy to sad in a few minutes! ;(!!
When Allie and Donovan go on their weekend away they have no idea what is about to happen. Allie gets sidelined be an “old friend” and a wicked witch of a step mom. She is told things that her boyfriend has been hiding from her. You can tell she does not handle this very well. She goes home to think only to be smacked in the face even more. Between her ex and her current she must feel like she is being smothered!
I love the parts of the books where she gets to spend time with her family. One of the things that I really liked about this book was that when Allie was taking a break from her life it did not dwell on her sadness. It showed you her happy parts and then skipped a head!
Poor Donovan you have to feel so bad for him, his step mom is a big B word, one of his friends betrays him and his girlfriend won’t hear him out on why he didn’t tell her the whole truth. At the same time I kind of wanted to smack him! He is such a smart guy I mean hello he is a doctor and yet he couldn’t trust his feelings or Allie’s for that matter to tell the whole truth. When she has told him all of her past good, bad or indiffernt!!
There are dark secerts in this book that I was trying to figure out! I was so happy when I was right about one of the turns (though you wont find out till the end). Man there are some crazy B*&^%es in this book and I can not wait till the next one!!!
The cliffhanger at the end was OMG! I thought I had more pages but alas I did not!
Great Job Ac Marchman! Go get the books my “whores”
Second book of the Callahan series starts off with a weekend road trip to Savannah GA . Donovan's family is introduced in this book and they all have that southern charm, except evil stepmother Donna. That woman is one nasty beyotch She is nothing but a troublemaker and sweet Allie picks up on it quickly. I really like Donovan's sister Megan and truly hope she gets her own book in the future. Donovan's dad seems a true southern gentleman but I can see him charged with murder in the future being married to someone as evil as Donna. Allie is so likeable but she is emotionally immature at times but it is easily overlooked because she is young and she has been through alot in her young life. Donovan is an older man (not that much older) and more experienced in life but if she is gonna have any chance competing with evil beyotch Claire in book 3 she really needs to put her big girl pants on. That being said Donovan does have a bit of a sordid past and she is handling it as best as she can. Donovan and Allie had one of those love at first sight romances and it just got stronger in book 2. I am rooting for them but I don't think Claire is going to make it easy for them. I know Claire is fictional but I am really afraid of her. Overall, this is a wonderful series and I am looking forward to book 3. The real star of book 2 is Allie's son Jackson who is freakin adorable. Very sweet scenes between mother and son. The sex scenes get 5 plus stars. There are some hot and steamy sex scenes and AC sure knows how to write them naughty. I don't think I could ever do the dirty in my mother's house so that made me blush a little bit.
So this takes place immediately after book 1, so you might want to binge read this.
***********Spoilers***************** Donovan lies -- both big and little; Allie cries. They start out traveling to his father's vineyard so she can meet his family, but he fails to mention that they're going because his best friend is getting married and he's the best man at the wedding. And already, I'm thinking he's still a douche. So he buys her a fancy getup. They get there and while his father and sister are lovely, evil gold digger step mom has it out for her and she sends Frankie, the stepson of psycho bitch Claire to fill Allie in on everything Donovan has yet to tell her -- that he was given $5 million after psycho Claire killed off her hubby; that the affair was pretty significant and started in high school... there's lots. So of course she's so upset that she leaves him to go back home to "think". Coincidentally while she's at a bar before her flight home, she meets the dbag from Book 1 that Donovan had the fight with and he asks for forgiveness (WHY? He was kinda inconsequential.) And in another eyerolling moment, baby daddy douchenozzle Matt shows up and wants her back... after almost 5 years. WHY? It makes no sense.
D and A eventually say I love you and get back together, but the book ends with Claire getting out of jail after a witness recants (aka was blackmailed by Claire) his testimony. So another cliffie.
Stay With Me continues with Allie and Donovan trying to work on their relationship. The story picks up where Overwhelm Me left off, so I highly recommend reading Overwhelm Me first so that you don’t miss out on any of the juicy details in the story.
During their trip to Donovan’s family home things start to fall apart when secrets are revealed. AC Marchman knows how to write steamy and sexy love scenes. The mystery builds as secrets come to light and the story left me waiting for more. The character of Donovan is a little more developed in this story and we start to see some of that hidden past come to light. In this way, I like that the story is a series so that we don’t know everything about the characters in the first book, but they take some getting to know and the reader does so slowly through the pages. In Stay With Me I found there were some surprises to come to light, the mystery surrounding Claire and suspense of the story builds as does Donovan and Allie’s relationship. This story had light angst and turmoil, but it seems to me to only hint at what may come. AC Marchman does a great job mixing in the sexy with the romance while building a story to sink your teeth into. I look forward to see where this Callahan series goes and to be introduced to more intriguing characters while seeing what happens next for Allie and Donovan. Give it a try! 4.0 stars
Stay with me continues right where we left Allie and Donovan from the first book Overwhelm me. It’s Allie’s turn to meet Donovan’s family and little did she know to attend the wedding of his best friend.
The hot and steamy passion that is Allie and Donovan continue to grow and soon they both realize that they need each other in their lives. Allie’s secrets have been revealed and Donovan hasn’t run from it in fact he does the opposite and understands. He is beginning to break down the walls that she has built to protect her heart but still he holds back from the secret he continues to hold. While attending the wedding, his ex- best friend tells Allie everything and she runs home to the safety of mom to figure things out.
Everyone around them can see and feel the love that they have for one another and being a stubborn man himself, Donovan has to realize on his own what he will lose if he doens't do something about it.
Claire, along with her small circle of evil friends, finds loop hole to get her out of jail literally. She has been plotting to re-claim Donovan as her own and won’t except the fact that he has left her for good. This just shows us that the next installment will be filled with a whole different level of drama when dealing with a crazy named Claire. At least Allie and Donovan will be happy with each other for a little while.
This is the second book in the Callahan series and is the contiunation of Allie and Donovan's whirlwind relationship.
Allie has shared her past with Donovan and is slowly getting over her insecurity issues but Donovan has yet to fully indulge his troubled past with reality tv star Clair Dubois who is accused of murdering her husband. While at a wedding Allie is given insight into Donovans relationship with Clair and discovers that he had lied to her.
This book just as the first is written in first person narrative only this time its not just Allie's POV it has Donovan and a little of Clair's POV's as well and I loved that Ms. Marchman did that because it gives a true sense of the characters and I feel even more in love with Donovan and found I could truly understand why he kept things hidden from Allie, and Clair well she is one conniving bitch and I found myself detesting her more and more as the story went on. Ms. Marchman has done a wonderful job in bringing these characters and their stories to life and I cant wait to see what happens next for Allie and Donovan and what Clair has planned for them. Great read hope to read many more books from this author and would definitly reccomend that you check this book out if you have not. (read book one first though)
I loved getting more of Allie and Donovan's story. I was hoping for more but I'll take what I can get! And freakin' Claire, Donna, and Frankie, what a bunch of CRAZIES!! WOW, no wonder Donovan is messed up with these amazing people in their lives. For those of you looking for a good stand alone this is not it. DO NOT EVEN OPEN THIS BOOK IF YOU HAVEN'T READ OVERWHELM ME!! You will have no idea what is going on. I can't wait to hear what happens with all of the major players in the end of this book. CRAZY ending, can't wait until the next book comes out to find out what happens.
On a different note there were a couple of errors. When referencing the posters in her room I certainly hope that Allie meant Robert PattINson, not Robert Patterson. Having a school girl crush on a Civil War General is a tid-bit creepy. ;) Also, when you-know-who shows up at her mom's house it says the strange car in her driveway was a Silver Maxima, then it says he had an old beater pickup and later that her mom's car was the Maxima. Not anything huge but it definitely made me go back and check to make sure that I didn't read the first passage wrong.
This book is a prime example of why I adore indie authors. There were some minor issues with the first book and the rate it went. But this one was just about perfect. The story had so much more depth to it as it started to expose some of the plot and twists. I was completely sucked into what connections were and what was going to happen. Completely lost in this story.
Donovan and Allie are on their way to his dad's estate, his friend is getting married and Allie is about to learn a bunch of things that she has been dying to know. Except Donovan might not be the one to tell her his secrets.
Devastated by betrayal Allie's instincts are to run and Donovan's are to chase her. He has to tell her his side of the story, he has to come clean as to how Claire and he hooked up.
The second installment was full of surprises and was drawn out in a way that made it so much more enjoyable. I felt like the story was able to breathe and unfold at it's own pace. For those who were on the fence with book one, I really hope you give the second one a chance - it is so worth it.
I love this book and series so damn much. I want to start out by saying that I absolutely despise Claire. I really hope she gets hers in book three.
I loved Allie and Donovan's relationship for the first part of the book. They are amazing together and you can tell that Donovan cherises Allow. But he kept secrets and we all the know what happens when that happens.
I loved meeting Donovan's family (except Donna, she was a major birch. Poor Rob). Megan and Rob are amazing. Even though they have had their problems over the years they have mended their ways and all love each other very much. Donovan's homeschool friends were a great touch. They were a big part of Donovan's life, they were like his second family.
I can say that I knew their would be some sort of drama at the end, but I did not expect THAT. That was some cliffhanger A.C. Marchman gave us. The wait for book three is going to kill me.
Stay with Me starts with Allie and Donovan on their way to Georgia for a weekend with Donovan's family and a big wedding for one of his oldest friends. What Allie doesn't know is that she's in for many surprises! I loved the private scenes between Allie and Donovan. They have such great chemistry and are so spontaneous! Loved them on the four wheeler!!! (Yes it is what you think, but you have to read it to see how fabulous) Donovan's family is great, with the exception of his Step Mother, of course. His sister Megan is super sweet and I can see her and Allie becoming very close. I saw from the very start that his Step Mother was trying to knock Allie down but I wasn't sure why. The Chapters with Claire were an exciting addition to the story! I'm interested in getting into that crazy head of hers a bit. Stay With Me was a good read and great sequel to Overwhelm Me!
"...She makes my heart do flips when she smiles and my stomach knots up when she kisses me..."
"'You're beautiful, you know that?' he whispers, never taking his blue eyes off mine."
"I watch her breathing slow as she drifted off into a deep sleep. I know I sound like such a pussy when I say this, but I could watch her sleep for hours..."
"...Her smile always takes me aback, almost stealing my breath..."
"...I need you more than I need air to live. I don't want to go through this life without you in it..."
"Looking at Allie, I can't believe it took me almost twenty-nine years to find her. I can't get over how incredibly perfect she is for me. I brush her brown hair back behind her ear, then stroke her face. She leans into my touch, pressing her cheek against the palm of my hand..."
