A smart, sexy entrepreneur. A wealthy, arrogant ladies’ man set on purchasing her company. And a hotbed of chemistry neither one of them anticipated.
Aiden Stewart is just going through the motions of running the family business, a mega communications company snapping up all the competition. His trip to a tiny New England town to negotiate the purchase of ChatDotCom is nothing more than an interruption in his plans for his next female conquest. The last thing he expects is for Chat’s CEO M. Jordan Fitzgerald to be a woman who takes his breath away.
Jordan is focused on business, not romance. She’s got too much at stake, working to protect Chat’s employees, as well as making sure her family is taken care of. Falling in love is not part of the business plan, but resisting the man she really should not want is proving impossible.
When a rival wants to take over Chat too, Jordan struggles to keep her personal life from affecting the business deal. With secrets that could ruin everything, she has to decide if she can balance business with pleasure.
Linda Cunningham introduces hot new characters in her second Small Town novel, a steamy office romance set in idyllic Clark’s Corner, Vermont.
*This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone*
Well, my Goodreads friends/followers know I am generally sympathetic to the plight of a good interoffice romance, but this left me cold. not a little chilly but, like someone switched my lovely toasty warm bed with a block of ice...and this book did nothing towards melting it. I cant say I despised it - okay, that's a lie, I really did hate it that much. The only semi-decent thing about the book was the editing. It was easy to read in that sense. The plot was very hard to choke down, the writing style did nothing for me, I didnt really see a connection between the characters and all this book happened in the space of like a month? *snort* and the end of the book *eye-fucking-roll* The babies father is dead. Let the past be buried, nobody wants to bring that shit up to the family considering the guy was in a relationship and they were having an affair. It completely sullies their memory of him. Sorry, this book just wasnt for me. By some painful miracle I made it through to the end, but I did not find it enjoyable one bit. I was sorely disappointed as I enjoy some other books by L.C so I was excited for this and I feel a little (there I go again with my gift for understating things) miffed that the book wasnt what I wanted it to be.

My Review
Favorite Scene:
Aiden reached out and closed the door behind her. He took her by both arms and turned her until they were face to face.
“I don’t want a drink,” he said. “I want you.”
He pulled her in to him and held her against his chest. She lay her cheek on the soft cotton of his shirt. The song of his beating heart sounded in her ear.
“Please stay,” he said, bending his head to hers.
Jordan didn’t reply. She answered with her lips, lifting her face to his, seeking his mouth with hers.
Thoughts:
This was an easy and FUN read. It took me two days to devour it. The narrative voice flowed with ease. As you can see from the teaser excerpt above, it was a hot page-turner.
I think that what knocked the book down from five stars to me is that at times I found the plot-line predictable and I just prefer a Darker type of contemporary romance. This novel leaned more on the sweet side.
Additionally, Aiden represented the typical hero--playboy, not ready to settle down or take women seriously. I adored that, but I craved more. Let's face it. . .I wanted Aiden to be a DICK! He wasn't. He was a nice playboy. I prefer my playboys to be balancing on the tip of asshole and gentleman (Yes. I'm a sicko).
However, Jordan was a fresh new character for this genre. She possessed a spunk that I usually don't see with contemporary romance heroines. I so so so so LOVED that she was a Mother! Loved! Jordan was the reason why I turned the page. I really wanted to see how things would turn out for her.
All and all, grab it if you love a rich guy romance with a strong heroine!
Linda has written steadily throughout the years, but usually other people’s papers, speeches, or articles for agricultural trade magazines. Her only published work of fiction was a children’s book, “The Copper Angel of Piper’s Mill”, written in 1988 when her children were still small. Now that the kids are out of the house, Linda is writing fiction again, and this time it’s personal! She writes full time and it’s Romance! Her first romance novel, “Small Town Girl” is being published by Omnific Publishing and should be available late summer/early fall of this year.
Linda lives in a romantic stone house in the green mountains of Vermont surrounded by her gardens and her animals who include horses, sheep, cats, dogs, chickens, a parakeet and various wildlife visitors who wander in and out at will. When time permits, she also enjoys sketching and painting.
Do people really fall in love in just a couple of days? I don’t know. I have an aunt and uncle who met on a Monday, married on a Friday and have been happily married for over 30 years. So it’s not beyond belief in my mind that it could happen, but does the story make me believe it? That is what I have really been questioning after reading this book. Aiden is a strong business man, known for closing the big deals for his father’s company, Trade Winds. He is also a playboy. He sees women as objects. He gets them, sleeps with them and moves on. That is until he meets the CEO of the company he is trying to close a merger with, Jordan. Jordan is a single mother, living to support not only her and her daughter, but her parents and brother since her father lost his job. She has done everything she could within the ChatDotCom to ensure that her family is provided for. When Aiden and Jordan meet, things change for both of them drastically. Setting the merger aside, the sparks fly between the two of them and you see a change in Aiden that is so drastic it really makes you question the reality of love at first sight. Jordan is scared to give into a relationship with Aiden as she is so focused on keeping everything in her life on track and providing for everyone else that she does not make time to focus on her needs. Will they find a way to make it work? Throw in one psycho freak disguised as a sharp business man who is also interested in acquiring Chat and you have a crazy ride. I loved Aiden in this book, he knew when honesty was needed and was willing to do almost anything to make a relationship with Jordan work outside of the boardroom. When uncertainty leaves Jordan confused and afraid, Aiden steps back and leaves her alone to decide what she really wants out of her life, their relationship and for her daughter. I loved this book and the characters in this book. It had passion, angst and love. Linda Cunningham writes great characters and their interaction was amazing. So much happened in this book in such a short period of time, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be okay with that or not, however, it worked well for this story and it kept my attention. I didn’t want to put this book down. I would recommend this book to friends in a heartbeat, it was a sweet story with some crazy twists and I loved it.
When Aiden Stewart set off for Vermont, he thought he was just going to negotiate a business merger. What he found was a woman who stole his heart. This definitely took Aiden for a loop because he loves the ladies. He is a player and had no intention of slowing things down in that department. But, his business negotiations with Jordan's company, make him rethink his whole player status.
Jordan is also interested in Aiden, but she's got some baggage that comes along with her. She's a single mother and has recently taken over ChatDotCom. She's overwhelmed and meeting someone like Aiden was the last thing she expected. However, their chemistry brought them together and not only did they figure out a way to make their companies merge, but they fell in love in the process.
I'll say that I liked Aiden and Jordan. I think Jordan's back story was interesting and I loved that she worked hard to keep a successful company running and raise a toddler. That's a lot of work. And I was glad to see Aiden change his ways, although we know 'of' his player status, but never really saw it. What didn't work with me in regards to their relationship was that they fell in love so deeply within a week's time, while working on a business merger. Now, I know this is a story, but it just didn't sit well with me. I didn't mind the sex and the exploration of feelings, but falling in love that fast threw me off for the rest of the book. I also could have done without the dramatic scene toward the end of the book. It just felt unnecessary to me.
Looking at the book overall, I did like it. Maybe not as much as I liked Small Town Girl, but it was pleasant. And it was nice to see a small glimpse of Lauren and Caleb from the first book. Caleb was hot. There are some steamy moments but nothing too graphic. The language during the love scenes is a bit more flowery than erotic. You can read this book as a stand alone even though it's part of a series. Recommended for readers who are looking for a fast paced love story with just a hint of spice.
Corporate Affair is a great read! I have to say that I love me some crazy bad boys turn lovable stories. I also love a strong heroine. Linda did a great job telling this story. The flow was smooth and easy to read through and follow. I never once got bored or thought lord this can not be real but I could actually see the small town and enjoyed it. I live a few hours from Vermont and I have to say that Linda was spot on with the descriptions.
Aiden Stewart works for his families company. His father wants to purchase another company named ChatDotCom and wants his son to seal the deal so to speak. So he sends him to Vermont to meet the CEO M. Jordan Fitzgerald. When Aiden gets to the meeting he gets more than he bargains for. When Aiden meets with Jordan he is blown away with the fact that she is a women. He thought he was meeting a guy and he is taken by surprise that he is actually looking at Jordan in a different light.
Jordan is The CEO of ChatDotCom and she has worked her butt off for where she is today. She needs this job security because she is keeping a secret that she wants to stay that way but when she meets Aiden her life is changed. Jordan wants to keep her secret but she is also starting to look at Aiden in a different light. What is Jordan to do when the competition poses a threat to the company and Aiden? Will she let Aiden in? Will the competition stop at nothing to get what he wants?
What is Jordan and Aiden to do? Come along for the greatest ride I have read in a long time. Yes this story is an adult story but I think the New Adults would love this story as well. Give it a go and see what I am rambling on about.
This is the second in Linda Cunningham's Small Town Girl series, and takes place in the same little town in Vermont. This time we meet Jordan, a young single mother with the smarts and guts to make it up the corporate ladder to CEO of ChatDotCom. Her mentor and the owner of Chat is dying, and some of the other communications giants are after Chat for merger or takeover. Aiden is the hot, sexy ladies man who runs Trade Winds Communications with his father in Maine. The attraction between Aiden and Jordan is instant yet very unexpected. This push and pull between expectations, lust, and small town politics keeps the ball rolling. But then comes the last third of the book, where the corporate espionage and game playing take a crazy, heart pounding turn! You won't believe what some people will do to make a business deal! YIKES.
I loved how the small town wove its way in to the story. For instance when the regulars at McTavish’s Pub overhear some out-of-towners speaking ill of Jordan, she knows about it before the flatlanders pay the check. It's a really sweet and fun way to tie all the books together. And hottie handyman Caleb from Small Town Girl makes an appearance as well!
This book was part of a blog tour, I received a copy for my honest review
Aiden is a spoiled rich playboy who works for his families company. He goes to purchase a company and meets Jordan. What he thought was going to be an easy buy out turns into something completely different. Jordan has secrets, she needs her job and when another company tries to take over her company she has to learn to trust Aiden or both of them will end up losing. Jordan is a strong woman, she has worked hard to get where she is, and she is also a single mother. Aiden started out as a player with selfish tendencies and entitled attitude, by the end of the book I loved the guy. The two of them had strong chemistry and I really liked how Aiden refused to give up on his relationship with Jordan. The people from the small town were warm, welcoming and took care of each other. There were some conflicts in the story which ultimately brought the two main characters closer together. The writing was good, there was a bit of mystery to it that kept me interested. This book was good and I really enjoyed reading it.
It was too fast, there was no character development. Supposed playboy with a girl in every port falls head over heels in love in 2 days and is proclaiming his everlasting love. It just wasn't realistic in any way.
Add in the fact that I felt like I had read every line before. This book was one huge cliche from beginning to end. There was no feeling, no excitement, no...anything. It was just boring. The sex scenes seemed like they had been copied from a "so you want to write a sex scene" book.
this was tedious, too many boring details which did not inspire any interest in the reader. it was unbelievable how aiden changed personality overnight! from a womanizing casanova to a loyal good kinda guy type wanting nothing, only jordan. lol!
I haven't read the other book in this series about small town girls, but I thought this was a light fun read with just enough mystery/intrigue to make it even more interesting.
CORPORATE AFFAIR is the second book in Linda Cunningham's Small Town Girl series and the first book I've ever read by the author. While I hadn't read the first book in the series, Small Town Girl, prior to reading Corporate Affair I found that it was easy to follow along and Corporate Affair could easily be read as a stand alone.
Thirty-two year old corporate leader and ladies man, Aiden Stewart, has been sent off to a small Vermont town to acquire another business, ChatDotCom, for his family owned and run mega communications company, Trade Winds. Aiden's father has instilled his trust in Aiden to spearhead the acquisition before a rival company show and scoops up ChatDotCom. Aiden's goal is to make sure the deal goes smoothly and to find out as much as he can about it's current CEO M. Jordan Fitzgerald, whom at the time he and his father think is a he. Much to Aiden's surprise, M. Jordan Firtzgerald is actually a she and one he found to be absolutely beautiful and attracted to. Aiden then has to make sure he keeps his goal in focus without letting the smart and beautiful Jordan distract him.
I found Jordan to be a wonderful female protagonist. As CEO of ChatDotCom, she's extremely sharp and knows her business and how to run it. She wasn't intimidated by Aiden and did her best to protect her company and it's employees during the business deal. Aside from being the CEO of ChatDotCom, she's also a single mother and has a lot riding on this business deal to go well in order for her to take care of her family. Jordan carries some heavy baggage with her and as she and Aiden get closer she has to work through some of her issues. Although falling in love wasn't in Jordan or Aiden's plan in life, the connection between the two was instantaneous.
While I found CORPORATE AFFAIR to be a good book there was one aspect in the story that had me bumping my rating of the book, Aiden. Maybe I've read too many books with similar character types but I found that Aiden didn't really fit his "playboy" persona. His past relationships and female conquests is brought up a few times but we never really got to see that side of him. I think I was just wanting Aiden to be a certain personality instead of being an absolute sweety. Which isn't a bad thing. I just like my CEO's to be arrogant and bossy.
Overall, CORPORATE AFFAIR is and enjoyable read and I think one that contemporary romance readers will like. It's a fairly fast paced and the latter half was more intense and dramatic. There were definitely some very sexy (and sweet) moments that will satisfy those readers who like a little steam in their romance novels. If you're a fan of sweet romances and stories that take place in small towns, then CORPORATE AFFAIR is definitely one book you'll want to read.
Great book. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Still completely unsure why the bad ratings. Descriptions are thorough and in depth. Just overall great read. Highly recommend.
Noteworthy quotes and moments from the book:
Focus on what you do have instead of what you don't.
"As for a change, sometimes we can't avoid that. It just happens."
They were standing so close to each other, he could feel the warmth of her body and see the rise and fall of her chest through her shirt. Then, before either of them was quite sure of what was happening, Aiden's lips were on hers. Jordan's body drew up to meet him, her lips parting instinctively, inviting him in. A veil seemed to fall over everything as he increased the pressure of his kiss. The relief it brought was overwhelming and her warm, earthy taste fanned his smoldering desires to flames. It was as though he had been awakened from a spell he had not realized he was under. He felt her skin grow warm beneath his fingertips. She lifted her face to his, and he let his lips travel down the curve of her neck until they lingered in the hollow of her throat. His hair brushed her chin, and she uttered a small passionate murmur. Her delicate gasp resonated through Aiden, overwhelming him with an excitement he had not experienced before. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her as close to him as he could. He felt her capitulate; he felt her firm shape melding into him, surrendering to him, urging him on. Her hands gripped him at the waist and moved upward, until she held his face in her fingertips. This time it was Jordan who initiated the most tender of kisses. Aiden savored her sugary taste. he felt himself transported by her touch, and passion rose in him. He slipped his hand down her back, over the soft swell of her buttock, and down her thigh. Everything after that happened instinctively.
She's here to be her own person. That's a legacy.
Women were capable of such things, he reflected. They could throw their own wants and needs into the sacrificial fire at a moment's notice and never look back. Aiden had seen his mother do it and even his sisters. They would give up something he knew was important to them, just for the sake of somebody else's comfort.
Honesty was the cornerstone of love. It was the foundation that would support love through all kinds of trials and tribulations.
Sometimes she felt so close to this man, as though she could trust him with her life, so sure of their love that she would follow him anywhere. And then, in the blink of an eye, she could feel so alone, so detached, so forgotten.
Looking back, I don't know how we did it, but, you know, we didn't even know how hard it was when we were going through it. It's only looking back that I just can't believe it!
Do you think your mother and I got where we got by standing around gazing into each other's eyes? Hell no! We got where we got by looking together in the same direction, putting on the same harness, and plowing forward. That's love.
They met for a merger but it quickly becomes more.
Aiden: He is a handsome, wealthy, playboy, business man. He spends his time working and enjoying the company of many women, but not feeling anything for any of them.
Aiden was just vain enough to take pleasure in his own physical attributes and, whenever he had the opportunity, use them to get what he wanted. Especially from women...He sighed, feeling the game was getting a little out of control. He was juggling four women in four locations at the moment and that was a little much , even for him.
Jordan: A young Executive with secrets and guilt from her past, a lot of pressure on her in her personal and professional life, and fear of losing control. She is independent, determined, and strong. She does not like asking for or receiving help.
Jordan was an enigma. She seemed friendly enough, but there was an unmistakable guard around her, a parameter past which, it seemed for Aiden, she let no one enter.
They have a connection immediately and I have to say that at first it seemed like their relationship was happening too fast. I am not a big fan of insta-love. But I can appreciate a man who is willing to change his lifestyle and realizes when he meets someone worthy of changing for. Jordan had serious issues that gradually are shared throughout the book. As those issues come to light and the layers are peeled off her character more, I felt that the book started to have more depth. Her feelings for Aiden are all twisted in with past issues that she has to deal with before she can think about moving on. And I loved that Aiden was adamant about taking a chance and worked to convince Jordan that their feelings should not be ignored. I really liked Aiden. And he and Jordan did have good chemistry and some sexy scenes together.
"I'm not giving up on us, Jordan."
"I have to have all of you, Jordan, because you have all of me. That's only fair. Sharing a life means just that."
There are some other outside influences causing trouble. It got more exciting closer to the end with some sad, dramatic, and tense situations. They have a lot to face, but can Jordan give up some control and realize that maybe two really are stronger than one?
So, in the end it got deeper, more intense, and I liked the couple together. I enjoyed their friends and families, the sense of community, and the descriptions of the beautiful locations.
This is the second in her Small Town series. Book 1 is Small Town Girl and featured Cohen and Lauren who made a small appearance in this book. But it can be read as a stand alone.
Thanks to Linda Cunningham and AToMR tours for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Blog tour post March 15, 2013 at Reviews by Tammy and Kim
I hate to start of the review this way but I was really disappointed in this book. It definitely was not what I was expecting and I kind of feel let down.
If you read the synopsis you are introduced to Aiden (a wealthy, arrogant ladies’ man). I just didn't really see that about him. I mean the first chapter starts off with him acting a little arrogant but after that, there's not really much to it. He loves his family, he dates women but we don't really get that much of a glimpse into that part of his life. And what we do see of him throughout the book is sappy lovey dovey stuff. I guess I was just expecting more of an Alpha male, take what I want kind of thing and he didn't fit the bill.
Aiden is trying to help his family business acquire a company and is sent to do the negotiations. He then meets Jordan who is handling the negotiations for the company he wants to acquire. Now, I'm all for a love at first sight story, but I just couldn't really believe it in this book. I didn't feel the chemistry between the two characters.
Jordan kind of got on my nerves a bit. A little overly dramatic to me and I didn't really have patients for her. She had some things happen in her young life, but she's running a huge company and providing for her family and she just seemed to whine about it.
And I just felt like Aiden was a sap. And then throw in a crazy lunatic guy and I just couldn't get myself into the story.
And don't even get me started on the ending. You get your HEA but I just thought it was all ridiculously rushed and not believable at all.
This was the first book I read by the author, and again, I really, really, really wanted to like it but it just wasn't for me.
Another insta-romance, which I am not find of. I don't see why the negotiations couldn't have spanned a couple months instead of a couple days. Months seems more realistic for a company merger anyway. The only other thing that bothered me was certain details. Like....knowing exactly what was ordered for dinner, exactly how he wanted his potatoes....why did we need to know this?
I didn't mind the plot, that was interesting and I liked the POV. I chose this book because the summary looked interesting but also because of the cover which was extremely interesting. The male on the cover looked powerful and strong, but that's not how the male lead in the book was portrayed. I'm not saying he wasn't an interesting male lead but the cover doesn't fit with the story.
I liked the transformation that Aiden went through, and how honest he was with Jordan about his past. Jordan overcame alot of guilt and selfishness and I applaud her progression as a mother and business woman. Its good Grace gets to meet her paternal grandparents. Anybody who harms a baby or child deserves everything coming to them. Fenton got his comeuppance. I'm just gonna throw this out there, but with all the unprotected sex,and no discussion of birth control Jordan should be knocked up already lol!! RIP Gene Palmer!!
If you like the type of book where they describe every little bitty thing...from the entire description of a building to a room (with every single thing and person in that room) and what everyone is wearing down to the "T" then you will love this book.
Couldn't finish this book after about 100 pages. This had the potential for a good story. Just don't buy that someone is going to be head over heels in love after just one meeting and so on and so forth...just didn't seem to get any better.
I liked the story - Aiden and Jordan. There was some sex - not really steamy - some suspense but sort of predictable. The main point that I disliked about the book was how Jordan and Aiden fell in love - it was instantaneous and then they were sleeping together. Okay I know people fall into bed that easy but the love part was really unrealistic. I bought this off Kindle for $1. It was not that inexpensive on Kobo.
I didn't really care for this one. I thought it was an easy read, but the plot was just hard for me to grasp. I believe in love at first sight, but the way this one played out in about a month was hard for me to grasp.
I was disappointed. I enjoyed the other Small Town book and had high hopes for this one.
Who falls in love after two business meetings? Author paid more attention to describing town and environmental details than they did for developing characters and romantic relationship. The ending itself is also very unsatisfying, if I had a paper book, would be looking to see where the end pages went. Pass on this one.
I kept reading waiting for something to happen it was all too fast for me.. Falling in love to fast too easy I couldn't relate to the story but I kept hoping that it would work.. But it just didn't
2.5 stars. Way too much purple prose. Dialogue stilted. Misuse of words. Story was okay. Moved slowly even though it was a total of 2 weeks of plot. Not a very believable falling in love story as it happened too fast (like within hours declarations are made).
the story was good and going in a sedate pace...so good that I felt there must be something that goes wrong and kept on reading impatiently.I half expected Mr.Palmers death to be some kind of murder.the ending was good.
A merger, a marriage, a little suspense, a baby, some heated sex And definitely not in that order. This is a simple little love story with a few predictable twists and turns. Read in day.
This book sure has a GREAT cover! This story has some suspense to it and I enjoyed it. The chemistry was good between the characters and I shed no tears...... until the last page.......
