This series is not for me. This book has sealed it. I love the premise: an organic farm and spa. Unfortunately, that's about all that I really like and even that is done is such a way as to make it as disinteresting as possible, with organic meals that are as out-there and unappetizing as possible and a hotel manager written to be as big an ass as possible. The murder plot itself was very nicely done - the author did a very good job of misleading the reader (or at least, me) as to motives and suspects and the ultimate culprit was not one that was on my radar.

Cozy mysteries are in large part character driven and I don't think there's a character in this entire book I liked or cared about. Dana's not unlikeable as the protagonist, but it seems a bit as though she's just going through the motions. There isn't much about her that feels proactive. Her sister Ashlee is just too stupid to be believed. We're supposed to buy a 20 something that acts at every single turn like a 14 year old? Ugh! The fact that both girls still live at home makes her immaturity that much more unseemly and obvious. Seriously, this character is written as though she's developmentally stunted. Jason, the love interest plays an extremely small part in this book and the part he does play certainly doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy about the relationship, or caring about seeing it develop further. I was intrigued by the detective in the first book but he was only mentioned once or twice in this book and did not make an appearance at all.

Finally this poor book suffers by committing two "sins" that drive me crazy: 1. pages and pages of internal dialogue and introspection. I freely admit to skimming or skipping a good 25% of this book and I can honestly say I didn't miss anything pertinent to the plot or characterizations. Nothing. 2. The family insists that Dana "solve this murder" so her sister isn't erroneously arrested. Cozies are about the amateur sleuth, yes. And I understand it gets extremely difficult for authors to put their characters in situations where their sleuthing is inadvertent, or innocently accomplished. But the arrogance that is implied with telling an amateur sleuth "you must solve this murder" because the police can't, that's a turn-off to me. Dana further turns me off right from the beginning of the book with the line she gives the detective investigating the murder: "I don't like to brag but..." in relation to the last mystery that took place in the first book of the series. It just felt wrong to me, turned me off, and the book just went downhill from there.

In 2nd book. About Dana and her sis Ashlee and their mom. Ashlee just broke up with her boyfriend Bobbie Joe was cheating on her. Bobbie Joe got himself killed and sheriff Palmer believed it was Ashore that killed him. But Dana believed she did not. There were a whole slew of suspects. Like Dondald and Tina the people that Bobbie worked with. The husband of the woman her cheated with Ashore with or Crushed the guy that was competing with Bobby Joe in truck 🚚 race and stunts. Who really did it. I love the close but family of the 2 sisters and mom. I will read book 1 and 3

When Dana's sister's boyfriend is murdered , she must do whatever it takes to prove that her sister did not do it. Even if it means almostgetting herself killed.

The characters in this series are trash. Dana is the least believable main character maybe ever--I have a hard time believing she ever held down a job in the tech world, let alone this one. She's not even a good amateur sleuth, putting herself in way too many dangerous situations and annoying the cops on top of her. Her sister is actually awful, and her mom is pretty pushy about her daughter being a detective considering how protective she is as a mom in every other instance. Jason the boyfriend is the only character that seems legit and he's barely in it.

I really want to like this series. I love the concept and the idea of the series but can't seem to get into the writing style nor do I like the character development.

I may one day finish the series but at this point it is just making me want more. maybe I am stopping too soon but I figure by the 2nd book I should be hooked and I just am not.

I bought this at the Dollar Tree and like to read little books like this in between the big serious books I like to read. I didn't know anything about Staci McLaughlin or Blossom Valley Mysteries, but I thought what the hell, it's only $1.
A couple of thoughts on ALL NATURAL MURDER:

1- Pages 165-170. Esther asked Dana to gather some tomatoes for Zennia to prepare the guests' lunch for the day and this transpired as Dana walked towards the kitchen:

"I had a two-second internal struggle between proving that girls didn't always need some burly guy helping them out and dropping the basket right there. My screaming muscles made a good argument, and I let Crusher take the basket from me. I tried to ignore how easily he toted the tomatoes while my fatigued arms hung limply at my sides."

How many tomatoes did she pick? How big was the basket? How big were the tomatoes?

2- Page 257. Dana's mother asked her to keep investigating the murder of her sister's boyfriend and Dana is somewhat hesitant and/or scared:

"I stared at her. And what if he's the killer? You want me to pester the guy at that lonely deserted gas station where he could kill me, too? You know I'd never ask you to put yourself in danger. Use your judgment. Make sure other customers are there when you talk to him. Mom glanced at the mantel clock. If you go right now, you can still catch the tail end of the commuter traffic."

Nice mother who seems more concerned about traffic. She doesn't suggest that she'll go with her daughter, just use your best judgment. Why do they have no confidence in the police?

3- Page 258. No game plan at all when she goes to the lonely deserted gas station:

"The woman accepted her change and her paper bag full of goodies and exited through the doorway, the bell ringing in accompaniment. That left the guy in front of me, and I still had no idea what I was going to say to Donald."

So she thought of nothing on the drive over or didn't sit in the car until she thought of something to say. She thought she would just wing it as she's confronting a possible killer?

4- Page 312. You could tell this book was written by a female.

"Almost by instinct, I brought my knee up to his groin, using every ounce of energy I could muster. Crusher released his hold and doubled over with a grunt."

He then got up and was able to get to his monster truck and get to her before she could get to her car. Believe if a man is kneed in the groin with every ounce of energy he's gonna be down for more than enough time for someone to escape. It's not something you just shake off.

5- Page 317. This situation happens way to much in these cozy mysteries in my opinion:

"The batter was dead."

Why are these people never charging their cell phones. Lazy writing.

6- Pages 01-327. Alright we get it. Blossom Valley, California, USA is HOT! There are way too many possible page references to Staci McLaughlin's over use of how hot it is and how the sweat is constantly dripping and pooling on various parts of her body. And the car is always hot and there is never any shade to park in. We get it. It's hot where Dana lives.

Final thought. I wouldn't say not to read it, but then I wouldn't say to read it. I might have liked it better if I started with the first book first instead of the second one, but like I said it was $1. Good reading whatever you end up reading.

Dana is a disappointing protagonist for what could have been a good series. Again, I'm upset by Dana's disgust towards healthy food. In any other themed book you would see the protagonist trying to either empathize or learn about the activity, food, animals, ect, but Dana continues to be really close-minded about healthy food. She gets huffy about her mom serving whole wheat pasta...whole wheat pasta. Also, Dana herself can be annoying as a character. She seems unwilling to see her own issues with finding a purpose and uses her mother as an excuse for coming back home and restarting her life. In all truth, Dana's probably going through an identity crisis, trying to understand what she wants in life. But, she doesn't think about that. She thinks about how everyone else is bothering her to do things like do her job (a career she knows and has training for) instead of solving a mystery. Sure, flawed characters can be interesting, but when they continually show no signs of growth and instead focus and complain about other people and their flaws (like her sister's social media interests), it gets old.

This was a 2.5 stars for me. I thought it was okay, but found it incredibly difficult to get through. It took me forever to read and finish it because I just wasn't in to the story. I found it to be predictable and maybe it was meant to be suspenseful, but I didn't find it that way at all. The animals had a very small forced part that was kind of thrown in there. Not a fan of Dana's sister and Dana herself was somewhat annoying. I didn't like Jason either. No real characters that I could relate to in this book. It was just... eh. I don't think I will be reading it again and I wouldn't recommend.

The reveal was a shocker to say the least. Even though it’s not a four star read, I think that the rest of the series is worth a read. She keeps getting better with each book.

All Natural Murder

Greetings from Blossom Valley, CA, home of the O’Connell Organic Farm and Spa, where the best in healthy living is sometimes spoiled by untimely murder…
As Dana Lewis settles into a quiet life of tofu this and tofu that, murder a la carte is the last thing she wants on her plate. But when she learns about the death of Monster Truck driver Bobby Joe Jones, frequent philanderer and boyfriend to Dana's sister, Ashlee, she has no choice but to wipe up the mess. Especially when witnesses last saw Ashlee angrily up in Bobby Joe's grill at the fairgrounds. With dizzying speed, Dana's life skids out of control. What else can she do but go into overdrive to save Ashlee's soy bacon, and stop a deadly killer in his tracks...

What happens when your clueless sister (unless the topic is men, makeup or clothes) has a very public breakup with her latest boyfriend, and tops it off by yelling at him “ Bobby Joe, I’m going to kill you”.
If your name is Dana Lewis, your mother and sister will get you involved with finding the real killer, while still holding down a job with many hats, and not pissing off Gordon, the manager of the O’Connell Organic Farm and Spa.
Dana has no idea how many possible enemies Bobby Joe had, or who actually would benefit from his being dead. So she takes extended lunch hours, signs in late, leaves early, while still trying to complete all her daily chores. Jason, her reporter boyfriend is not exactly thrilled that she is getting involved in another murder. The detective on the case is definitely not happy, especially since his cousin is the Deputy Sheriff who she interacted with just a few months back on another murder.
Between the people Bobby Joe knows and the strangers in town for the big Monster Truck show, Dana’s job is going to be a long and hard one. The final outcome is going to have you scratching your head and saying… D’uhhh Why didn’t I figure that out?

FTC Full Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher who in return only asked for a fair and impartial review.

Hired to promote O’Connell Organic Farm and Spa, Dana Lewis finds herself becoming more of a farmhand then a spokesperson or promoter. But Dana doesn’t complain, doing her best to help out and only happy to be employed even if it means dealing with runaway ducks and pigs. Her sister Ashlee on the other hand, is a bit of a drama queen and quite shocked to find out her boyfriend, Bobby Joe had been cheating on her. But when Bobby Joe ends up dead, things get complicated for the sisters. Dana has to deal with the fact that her boyfriend Jason is a lead reporter for Blossom Valley’s local paper, while Ashlee worries the cops will narrow in on her because she had threatened to kill Bobby Joe. But with Dana on the prowl to find the elusive killer, things can only go haywire and they do.
All Natural Murder by Staci McLaughlin is a mystery with a bit of mayhem and humor in the mix. Throw in some monster truck racing and a bit of muck and things can quickly get out of control. But Dana is one tough cookie. She is determined to solve the crime and save her sister from being falsely accused of Bobby Joe’s murder. Dana Lewis is a likable, gutsy, character with a witty sense of charm. The setting of this tale was unique in itself. All Natural Murder is an entertaining read by a talented writer.

This is the second in a new series , a Blossom Valley mystery. Dana is still working at O'Connel's Organic Farm and Spa doing marketing, writing its blog and whatever else needs to be done. After the last murder, Ester the owner is having a hard time keeping things going. There is a truck monster show at the fairgrounds and one of the drivers called Crusher is staying at the spa. Ashlee, Dana's sister was dating another driver Bobby Joe Jones but they had a very loud and noticed breakup at the fairgrounds the night before the big show. Bobby Joe evidently was cheating on Ashlee. When he is found murdered, Ashlee finds herself a suspect and Dana starts doing everything she can to prove her sister's innocence. This gets her into trouble at work for not "focusing" on her job and she finds herself in trouble when she gets too close to the truth. I enjoyed this book and will look forward to reading the next. This was an enjoyable cozy mystery.

This novel is the second in the series and we catch up with marketing and general aide, Dana Lewis still thankful for her job at the 'O'Connell Organic Farm and Spa.' Besides keeping up with the daily blog, chasing errant ducklings, and cleaning rooms, Dana has to deal with her family's crisis'.

Dana finds her Sister, Ashlee furious about her cheating ex-boyfriend, Bobby Joe. Bobby Joe is a quickly rising monster truck driver and has a winning trick routine with his truck and with the ladies. Ashlee speaks her mind and this causes major trouble when Bobby Joe is found murdered. Ashlee demands that Dana find the true killer like she had a couple of months back at the Spa.

Dana must balance her search for the killer and her own personal life and job. I found Ashlee's self-interest tiring. I also found the casualness that Dana treats her own job just not realistic to me.

just found out i won this, thanks for picking me! it sounds like a fun lighthearted book, just what i need at this depressing time of year. hope it comes soon to cheer me up!

this was a cute book i read over the MLK 3 day weekend. it takes place in a small town. she is working in a inn/spa that has healthy home grown food. she is trying to clear her younger sisters name as her boyfriend that she just broke up with just got murdered.

there was a variety of people to chose from, the roommate, his boss, the guy that was competing with him in monster truck race. 'crusher' did it!

i liked it when she was doing job interviews, very true to life!

im going to pass it along to the battered womens shelter so they can enjoy it too.

In a cozy mystery I expect the characters to do "stupid" things to put themselves in danger and to get in the way of the police; that is part of the charm of the genre. But, for some reason, the antics of the characters in this book seemed incredibly juvenile. I had a really hard time relating to the sister in particular. Is anyone really that self-centered? Even the attempts to show her in a better light did not make her very appealing. I understand that is part of the burden the main character deals with when she ends up living at home again. Maybe I'm getting too old to relate. Don't know if I will try to next in the series or not.

This book was very annoying. I read for enjoyment and usually like at least one of the characters I am reading about. Not so with this story.Dana Lewis moves back to California to live with her widowed mother and extremely narcissistic sister, Ashlee. Ashlee's boyfriend is murdered and everyone (Dana and her mother) believes that Ashlee will be arrested for his murder. The police are questioning suspects (Ashlee among them) but Dana must question everyone too. Of course, this is cozy world and everyone answers her questions without any hesitation. This book may be OK for some but this is a series I will not be reading more of.

"All Natural Murder" by Staci McLaughlin is the second novel in her Blossom Valley mystery series and, like the first book, "Going Organic Can Kill You," it's a wonderful read with a cast of unique and fascinating characters, an intriguing plot and lots of down-to-earth humor.
Dana Lewis is the marketing coordinator for the O'Connell Organic Farm and Spa. When monster truck driver, Bobby Joe Jones, is found murdered, the police have a prime suspect: Ashlee, Dana's younger sister. Dana is determined to clear her sister's name but to do that she must uncover the identity of the real killer.

Staci McLaughlin has done it again. A great follow-up to "Going Organic Can Kill You", "All Natural Murder" picks right up where we last left off with her sharply funny sleuth Dana. Everyone can relate to Dana as she gets dragged into her sibling's mess, while trying to avoid tofu and natto. The author has kept her pen sharp and continues to provide the reader with adventure and great humor. This reader is hoping for many more murders in Blossom Valley so that Dana's adventures can continue.

I liked the first book in this series, but this one just didn't do a thing for me. Took some time to get through it, too. It was my "purse" book and they always take longer, but this one took longer than usual. Just didn't hold my interest for more than a few minutes at a time. Don't think I'll bother if there's another. (And what's with all the nasty sounding food???)

I loved ALL NATURAL MURDER, the follow-up mystery to GOING ORGANIC CAN KILL YOU, by Staci McLaughlin! The book is full of humor and eccentric characters you can't help falling in love with. I learned a lot about the Monster Truck community (!, not to mention a few spa tips. I look forward to the next book in the Blossom Valley series.

I picked this one up because of its tie in to holistic living, but that was downplayed more than I typically see in cozies. I finished it and did enjoy the writing, but I didn't enjoy the characters very much. Definitely will try the next in the series, however.
