Երգիծաբանության ազգային դպրոցի հիմնադիր Հակոբ Պարոնյանի «Մեծապատիվ մուրացկաններ» վեպը (1887թ.) հայ գեղարվեստական արձակի դասական երկերից է: Դեպքերի հանգուցակետում Աբիսողոմ աղան է՝ ամուսնանալու նպատակով Տրապիզոնից Կոստանդնուպոլիս եկած մի մեծահարուստ։ Նրան սպասարկելու են գալիս «մեծապատիվ մուրացկանները»՝ կյանքի սոցիալ֊հասարակական պայմանների բերումով անհատականությունը կորցրած հայ «մտավորականության» ներկայացուցիչները՝ թերթի խմբագիրը, քահանան, բանաստեղծը, լուսանկարիչը, բժիշկը, ուսուցիչը, փաստաբանը, դերասանը:

Hagop Baronian

Baronian's most famous work was the novel "Honorable Beggars", which parodies the almost beggar-like state of writers and publishers in that period. Baronian was also known for his biting, sarcastic criticisms of leading figures in the Armenian social circles of Istanbul; some of these critical comments appear in his book National Bigshots. Unfortunately, he himself suffered the same fate as the characters in "Honorable Beggars", and died penniless on the streets of Istanbul. He was buried in an Armenian cemetery in Istanbul, but the precise location of his grave has been lost.
The Yerevan State Musical Comedy Theatre was named after Hagop Baronian (Հակոբ Պարոնյանի անվան Պետական Երաժշտական Կոմեդիայի Թատրոն).

What's the best way to put it? This is a cute little story? Definitely satire!
Absalom Agha arrives in Constantinople after traveling from Trebizond by steamer. He is determined to find a wife. As soon as he gets on shore, though, he is surrounded by men who offer to carry his luggage for him. When he tells them the address that he is going to they grab his trunks and leave. When he attempts to follow them he is immediately approached by a newspaper man who wants to find out who he is so that he can print a story in the next day's paper about this important man who has arrived, for a price, of course. From then on he is constantly approached by poets, teachers, priests, marriage brokers and others who all want to give him something or do something for him for money. He barely has time to eat and sleep because of all of the people who are always hounding him. He finally flees the town and goes home without a wife so that he can escape all of the requests for money.
The translation into English was worded very well. I have no basis for knowing how well it duplicates the original Armenian but, in any case, it's a lot of fun to read.

A great small of piece of satirical writing.
The writer uses rich Western Armenian vocabulary and "breaks the fourth wall" playfully. It's a good depiction of modern society as well as the lengths people go to in order to get recognized.

Դասական այս ստեղծագործության մասին շատ չես գրի, թվում է՝ ամեն ինչ ասված է։ Թվում է միայն։ Այն երբեք չի կորցնի արդիականությունը։ Միայն անվանումը՝ մեծապատիվ մուրացկաններ... ավելացնում եք «... անել» ու կա իրականության այնպիսի մի հատված, որը միգուցե այո, միգուցե ոչ՝ անբաժան է ձեզանից։
Ժամանակին ու միգուցե հիմա էլ գրեին՝ «Աբիսողոմ աղաները մեր իրականության մեջ...»։ Աբիսողոմ աղան չէ գլխավորը (թեև նա կա, ինչ խոսք), շատ ավելի կարևոր են նրա հյուրերը։ Բանաստեղծը... ծիծաղից լացել կարելի ու անշուշտ, խորհել։
Այնպես, որ՝ արժե կարդալ։

An awesome book! One of my favorite of all books. I hope it is translated to other languages, for all people to be able to read this masterpiece of comedy jenre.

بعضی از کتاب ها از دوران خودشون جلوتر هستند و بعضی دیگر عقب تر. بعضی از کتاب ها هم برای دوران خودشون نوشته شدن و در سال های بعد به اثری کلاسیک و ماندگار تبدیل نمی شوند.
عالیجنابان مفلس کتابی است برای دوران خودش و مطالعه این کتاب برای نسل امروز جذابیتی نداشت و تکرار مکررات بود.

Read this in Armenian of course and honestly I had a hard time as someone with Yerevanian dialect. The book is satirical but has a deep meaning with wonderful quotes that I haven’t seen coming. An armenian classic by Paronyan

APISOGHOM AGHA! Cute and funny. Tried to read it all in Armenian. Not there yet - had special help :) But getting there SLOWLY and ever so SLOWLY.

This book makes a lot of good commentary on Armenian society. It was true in Baronian's time, and sadly it's true today. Still, I got some good laughs out of this book!
