Sanctuary #2

The Only Easy Day

Rate this book
One dead girl, one scared witness, and two men trained as Navy SEALS. Whether searching for justice or revenge, the final showdown between them is the same—explosive.

Dale MacIntyre, former Navy SEAL, works for Sanctuary. He’s the acting handler for a member of the Bullen family’s inner circle. He’s close to obtaining the evidence he needs to prove Elisabeth Costain's death was ordered by them… until someone gets in his way.

Joseph Kinnon, active Navy SEAL, is back on U.S. soil for the first time in months, and he’s told the tragic news that his stepsister is dead, gunned down in an alley by an unknown assailant. He’s determined to find out who murdered her…until someone gets in his way.

They both want the same thing but have different methods of accomplishing their goals. They both want the Bullen family brought to account, but one wants justice and the other wants revenge.

What happens between them, however, has nothing to do with either.

I liked this more than the first in action, but the relationship part was still lacking. I needed more in regards to time between MCS, and relationship progress. This felt like it was unfinished. Declarations are made then they are apart, then the End. What!? I need more!

Ordinary, Ordinary, An Ode To The Ordinary

I've read a couple of great books lately
So maybe that's why I feel this way
This book, like the first one, had me almost asleep
So I really can't say that it was more than okay

I almost want to say that the book didn't get a fair chance because I've just read some awesome books but a book should be able to engage me no matter what and this book didn't do that.

RJ Scott seems to have a knack
For writing characters that I find boring
Military men usually make me yell *SQEEEEEE*
But Dale and Joseph had me damn near snoring

I was so bored with these guys that I was kind of annoyed because I wanted them to have more presence.

Dale and Joseph don't meet until about 50 percent
Which I thought meant the romance would burn slow
That would have made the book so much better
But they're declaring love after a few days and a suck and blow

Really the love came out of NOWHERE.

Unlike in the first book, there was action in this story
But even the action was blah
It was kind of like watching a made-for-tv movie
Where the commercials are better than the main show. Ha!

So, while the writing in this book was okay,
And that's why it got 3 stars,
The story and characters were just too bland
Even if there was a high speed chase in a sports car

I can't really recommend this story, but if you're looking for something to fill the time then maybe try this book. I just was not impressed though.

The Only Easy Day is the second book in the Sanctuary series by R.J. Scott. This was my favourite one of the series and if I'm honest Joseph and Dale are one of my favourite couples ever. It's not heavy on the romance in this one. But you get the connection and the cool action in this. It was hot in my personal opinion.

Joseph and Dale were very easy characters to get into. I loved both personalities and they had a lot of chemistry. They started out as sort of enemies and it grew into lust, and eventually love. Normally, I like a few more intimate moments in a book, this had a smaller amount of that, but I didn't care. Maybe my reasoning for that is I really got into the couple and just wanted them to do something. It would have been funny to watch me reading these two, I was on edge.

In the first book we found out Morgan saw the death of a woman. Joseph was that woman's step-brother and he wanted to find out what happened. So the story starts with him coming home from a mission. Joseph is a SEAL, and Dale an ex-SEAL. He tracks down Morgan after Dale, Nik and Morgan set him up so they could meet. We then get into the whole Bullen saga and it gets somewhat complicated, but I found it easy to follow along.

The book had some hot moments and very frustrating ones. I loved the sexual tension in this one, it oozed passion and heat. I wanted one of the characters to just rip the others clothes off. I was getting frustrated (in a good way) waiting for someone to kiss and when they did finally kiss, it was short and perfect. The sex was sappier than a lot of people would have believed and I loved the mixture of passion and sap.

I really can't say enough about how much I really did enjoy this book. We will be getting a sequel to it and it's needed. The way we were left with these two had me screaming at the top of my lungs NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO But that might just be me! Yeah, I'm willing to admit, I get too invested in my books and couples.

Highly recommend this series!

Ok - stupid ipad ate my review, so this is the second try:

I really liked the first book and started with this one right away. After finishing it in one sitting I have to say, the suspense part of the story works very well and is the reason for me to now start the third book. However, I have to say, the romance part in this book fell short for me.There was no chemistry between Joseph and Dale for me whatsoever and besides a BJ on the way there was no trace of connection, not to think of love, but voila - suddenly there it was, LOVE! Sorry, didn't work for me. Now I hope for a more believing development in the next book.

Not enough romance alongside the action in this one for me

You'd think a SEAL and an ex-SEAL would be a 100% winner but unfortunately I just couldn't buy into this relationship fully.

I don't think there was nearly enough time given to establish any kind of feelings other than the angry lustful ones that saw Dale and Joshua engaged in their sexual pursuits while waiting on a hillside before a rescue mission.

Up to that point they'd done nothing but fight and argue and basically fail to show any sort of connection other than the negative ones.

So I was a tad disappointed that all of a sudden they're on the brink of exchanging "I love yous" and thinking about a lifetime together once Joshua's out of the Navy.

Plus, on top of that, I hadn't realised that the investigation from book one was going to be carrying on into multiple books.

So I'm now onto book three and there's still no major steps forward in finding out just what's on!

Hopefully things will take a turn soon as I like the whole 'Sanctuary' part of these books, it's the almost instalove relationships that I'm finding a bit disappointing right now.

I wanted to like this book but didn’t. I just can’t get behind a book when I don’t like the MCs. Period. I really liked Dale from Guarding Morgan and was excited to read his story until R.J. Scott proceeded to turn the yummy alpha Dale into a pansy. She took a totally respectable former SEAL and turned him into an “old” (at 29???), out-of-shape, wannabe who lusts after Joseph. What a waste! Then ... to add insult to injury, I just couldn't connect to Joseph. He was a cold-hearted, arrogant ass and I never warmed to him.

Most of the book is spent on trying to solve Joseph’s sister’s murder and that was semi-entertaining. But there was little or no development of any type of friendship or camaraderie between Dale and Joseph along the way. Then, about ¾ of the way in ... BAM! ... they suddenly hook up. It’s little more than two guys passing the time by getting each other off in the woods. Bleh! Sorry, but that is soooo not romantic to me.

There was simply zero chemistry between Dale and Joseph (other than lust), so it’s not surprising this turned out to be a disappointing read for me. I was often frustrated with the characters and the story. The cherry on top? The rescue operation to save Robert and the show down with the Bowens. The tap dance R.J. Scott did to avoid Joseph being construed as a “Christian Harris” bordered on asinine. I mean, Joseph – a Navy effing SEAL, for f*ck’s sake – did everything humanly possible to avoid shooting or even hurting the two murderous Bowen bastards but didn’t blink when he pulled the trigger to shoot a very injured friendly??? Okay … um, that’s BULL SH*T! No freaking SEAL would do that. Then Joseph unceremoniously dumps Dale and an unconscious Robert at the hospital and digs out in the “Lambo.” Yuck. Seriously. Gimme a break. I’m supposed to believe that’s “heroic?” I. Don’t. Think. So. In an effort to downplay what Joseph did, even the “doctor” described Robert’s bullet wound as “nothing.” Bleh.

I feel like every idiotic trick in the book was thrown in at the end in a sad and misguided effort to wrap this story up nicely. It failed miserably IMHO. This story is so far-fetched and the characters so one-dimensional that not only did I not buy it, it was a sorely frustrating read. For me, this book had great potential but fell way short of the mark.

Well, I'm torn!

Plot-wise I liked this book much better, than its prequel, I've been so engrossed in the story during the first part, I almost didn't notice that there's still no romantic development whatsoever (although I always prefer romance driven books).

But! When the romance started, unfortunately I didn't like it at all. More specifically I didn't like Joseph and his interactions with Nik, Morgan and Dale. I liked him as an individual character at first, but then he started being so Mary Sue. He was better than everyone in everything. He beat Dale in combat, he immediately knew how to get to the Bullen's house, he was better in climbing the mountains, his super-mega team found all the intel in seconds, while Sanctuary guys worked on it for weeks or even months. I didn't even know why he needed them as they all looked like a little kids, compared to Joseph? He could as well do it all alone. He was all condescending attitude and I don't like it at all. More than that it was hard for me to even sympathize with his revenge quest, since he himself had said several times, that he didn't even know Elisabeth all that well, so he wasn't heartbroken, that was just some kind of samurai code for him - to avenge her death. To me Morgan looked ten times more sincere in his willing to find out the truth and to bring the closure to this story. And when Nik asked Joseph to at least think about others, while doing something, Joseph couldn't even promise him that, and what good would've done all that avenging, if that harmed innocent people as a result?

And I couldn't understand where the mutual sympathy between Joseph and Dale came from? They were fighting and kicking each other asses and suddenly Dale was like: oh, he's hot. Although ten minutes ago he'd all but hated his guts. WTF??? And Joseph acted just like he hadn't had sex in months and Dale's gay, so why not? I didn't see any more than that, so all that 'oh I found someone I like' appeared out of the blue to me. There was zero relationship development and very crammed ending, imo. And I wanted to see more equality in the relationship, since Dale was positioned as an alpha male as well, I'd like for him to have the upper hand sometimes, to be able to save Joseph, to help him big time, not to be forever second.

So relationship-wise the things I liked the most here were the glimpses of Nik and Morgan and their sweet relationship. Unfortunately the main pairing didn't do anything for me.

But I love the 'verse and definitely will buy the next book from these series.

This book has thriller, mystery, and a high-tension character study all balled into one, and kept me on the edge of my seat. The links to Guarding Morgan, the first book in the series, were fascinating, and the overarching mystery as to why Elisabeth was killed moved a little closer to being solved. Not too close, though, there is plenty left for the next few books.

Joseph, a SEAL on active duty, is Elisabeth’s stepbrother and as soon as he hears of her death (upon returning to the US), he vows to find out who did it and make them pay. His determination is as unbreakable as his arrogance and the verbal and physical clashes with Dale are fascinating to watch.

Dale also wants to find out who killed Elisabeth, but he is also concerned with the bigger picture. Since he is not quite as cold as Joseph, and less prepared to go to the extreme, he spends half his time trying to stop Joseph from being involved at all. By the time he understands and accepts that this is pointless, he actually needs Joseph’s help.

The two men spend most of the book in almost mortal opposition, snapping and yelling and attempting to out-macho each other. The underlying sexual attraction and tension just builds and builds, and when it comes to a head – well, saying the sparks fly is a pitiful understatement. If you like stories with a lot of mystery, tough men who don’t want to admit they are attracted to each other but cannot help themselves, and of men in uniform with a need to protect civilians are your thing, you will probably like this book.

This book picked up pretty much where Guarding Morgan left off. We meet the murdered girl's step-brother, Joseph Kinnon, an active navy SEAL. He is just back from a mission and learns that Elizabeth is dead. Joseph begins his own investigation into Elizabeth's murder with the help of his SEAL team. Dale MacIntyre is an ex SEAL now working for Sanctuary in trying to get enough evidence to bring the Bullen's down. Dale has been secretly meeting with Robert Bullen who was Elizabeth's boyfriend and wants his family put away for killing Elizabeth. Joseph and Dale's investigations dovetail and finally meet head on which causes sparks to fly between the two determined men. Lust gets in the way of their anger and Dale and Joseph take the things to a higher level while combining their skills in the investigation. This well written story is packed with action and some sweaty sex. Ms Scott created two terrific characters and excellent chemistry in Joseph and Dale. Nik and Morgan are back in this book as supporting characters. I enjoyed the scene in the Bullen mansion and the way things were left hanging there for the next installment in the Sanctuary series. I recommend this fast paced series to anyone looking for some adventure with a HEA ending.

4.5 stars. Very good m/m romantic suspense picking up where the first book left off. As the Sanctuary guys work to build a case against the mobsters responsible for the murder Morgan witnessed, things are complicated by the murder victim's Navy SEAL stepbrother showing up on a mission of vengeance.

It's been a while since book one so I struggled to get back into the mindset of this organization named Sanctuary. In this story, Dale, a Sanctuary agent, former SEAL, is pitted against Joseph, a current SEAL who is on leave for bereavement of his stepsister and intends to find out who murdered her and why. He constantly steps on Dale's toes, literally and figuratively and the two are not the least friendly. Dale, in fact, detests Joseph. Until the end when they have to go through a dangerous trail to get to the bad guys locale and by the end of the trip they are in lust. And then a week or so later, they make plans to be together whenever Joseph isn't on mission, and maybe even further into the future.

This series must be taken with a grain of salt. Okay, a whole salt shaker. But it's entertaining and I will indeed be reading number three as it ties into the boy rescued in this story.

Hot, sexy, intriguing... how else to describe this? I love this series. I love the way the characters grab me. Make me understand what they are going through. The troubles they face and problems that need to be worked through.

It has been a while since I read the first one, and I really felt that I should have read it again first. It took me a little bit to get into the swing of it, but once I was there it didn't let me go until I finished. It definitely won't take as long to read the next one that's for sure!

I love this series. None of them are particularly meaty and all have instalove (although some worse than others) and all have action and excitement and danger. This one was no exception, and it was even less believable than most. I didn't buy the love at all, let alone the intense forever kind. The danger and excitement were good. I wish there had been a little more build up to the love.

Happy ending?

Buona lettura

Well, I'm bummed. I'm a RJ Scott fan, but this did not work for me. I never felt like I was really invested in the characters and I never felt anything between them, I didn't even feel like a random lustful attraction. I liked the premise of this, as far as Joseph seeking answers to his sister's death and how he came to meet and be involved with the gentlemen from Sanctuary, but I just never felt it. It all happened pretty quickly, and I don't just mean that these dudes knew each other for like 2 days, the story moved so quickly and we were almost done before they even met. Perhaps we will see and get more depth in the future stories. I think the next one looks interesting, and as this author usually works well for me, I will give it a go.

Second book in the Sanctuary Series continues along after book one left off, but follows a new set of Main Characters. Dale (Nicks partner from book one) is still helping Nick and Morgan investigate and try to find out more about the Murder Morgan saw and the mystery surrounding it. Joseph is a Navy Seal and is also the brother of the girl who Morgan saw murdered. When Joseph comes home on leave he decides he’s going to find out what happened. Whether Dale (Nick & Morgan) want his help or not. This book had a lot more action than the first one and it was a great continuation of the series! Even though these guys don’t meet until a ways into this book, and their hate-to-love relationship is fast this book leaves us with more of a happy for now Vibe, like their story isn’t quite finished yet.
Sean Crisden does a great job continuing this narration from the first book and jumping fluidly into this one. I really liked his voices for Joseph and Dale and their times together made for some steamy scenes. I can’t wait to hear how the next book goes.

Brilliant Plot!!!!
Why do I feel Disappointed???
Why do I always need More???
Why was the story so SHORT????

I love to read RJ Scott's books but I ALWAYS feel incomplete when I am done!!!!
Brilliant plots but way to short and I always feel like something is missing.

In book one Morgan saw a woman killed, Joseph is her brother. He wants to find out why she was killed. Dale is the man from Sanctuary working on the case and he doesn’t want any interference.

The two fight for control but succumb to their mutual desire. In the end two heads are better than one at finding the truth.

**

This was a good Sanctuary book, not as good as book one IMHO, mostly because there was a lot of crime/mystery elements and not as much relationship building.

The smexy times are good when they do happen and the characters themselves are a lot of fun.

Another great book from RJ Scott. ThIs one picks up where Guarding Morgan left off, we find out more about the murder Morgan witnessed in the first book and begin to understand Elizabeth as more than just a random victim of that murder. I'm really glad RJ turned the first book into a series as it allows so much more depth and plot development and needless to say I am eagerly waiting with anticipation for the next book.

Nothing better than a retired Navy Seal ending up in a precarious position with a Seal that comes back to avenge the death of his sister. Both Dale and Joseph are used to being under the gun but neither of them are ready for the instant attraction they have. But can two head strong men work together even if their libidos are on the same page? Holy crap this story is getting more involved and all involved make split second decisions and take the reader on a wild ride. Need the next installment ASAP.

3 Stars...

The romance portion of this story was...rather unbelievable. I mean, they hated each other and all of a sudden they love each other. Too drastic after 24 hours. Lust I can understand but not this.

Anyway, I console myself in that this was an early RJ Scott work and her recent works are much better. The story is still interesting. It’s just the romance portion that’s iffy...to me.

This series is kind of meh. I’m not really impressed with it. This book was a bunch of nothing happening. Just talking about plans, still trying to figure out why Elisabeth was killed. I’m glad that I got the first three books for free at some point. They’ve been sitting on my kindle for a while. Also, at the end of each book, the author states that the books are available on KU. They are NOT onKU, at least at the time I did this review.

I'm not sure why I liked this one more than the first in the series because it had a lot of the same weaknesses, but I did. Maybe it's the MCs, maybe it's the story fleshing out more, but I did enjoy this one.

LOVED IT!
I really enjoyed this second book in the series, I was going to complain that we didn’t get hardly any interaction between Dale and Joseph until like 60% of the book, but it was so worth it to wait, the love these two share was very intense and I love so much Joseph’s flirty nature.
I wish we could’ve seen more of them together though...
but overall, a really good read.

I think I enjoyed this one more than the first because of the back story. I also liked Morgan's vulnerability in the first book, but I liked these two tough SEAL's a lot more. I hope we see more development as far as joseph and Dale's relationship goes because of where the book ended.

I like that this is picking up where the first book left off and we get new characters along with ones from the first book. There was a bit too much going on for me to really buy the romance between Dale and Joseph, which is why I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars.
