This book had a monorail quality that was at first glance about an epic adventure in the Amazon. It was very small scale. The lack of the type of detail that springs out at you was badly lacking.

The sense of danger got muffled. The element of chance, along with a death wish of which the death part was a farce. You get the feeling that Bob Morane was a cheat or at best a witness to his own adventure.

Morane was served better than here. In the other stories of his that I read there was this urgency and reality was fantastical while being grounded. The ludicrousness of it all had a veneer of grayness. You don't get the feeling of being transported, except if to the make believe play of dolls and action figures clashing together.
